  • In this video I share some tips about the Excalibur 2 metal detector. I filmed this video with my green screen background so the detector didn't come out great because it is also green but you can get the points of the video by watching. Some good tips here to keep your metal detector working for a long time.

Yes this video is 8 years old but i'm commenting anyways.
Mine broke after using it only 4 or 5 times. Had to send it back and wait 2 months for the return. Worked great for the next 3 years and then it broke again (the body broke both times, not the headphones or coil) I baby my machine and only use it half dozen times a year so thats 100% unacceptable.
By the way, cool video man!

Nice video . Helpful. I bought an ex demo machine last week and i will be getting an Anderson stem asap and if i can change it i will get the RNB battery pack but i wont open up the compartment myself . Not read the manual yet either so need to do some reading later . I will get hold of Steve Cox of the UK where i live and ask him about maintenance when i get the chance .

the problem is you have the wire pulled so you are bending it to much .you need to loosen the wire so it sits straight and then tape the cable down or in a while that wire will have the same problems .bending the wire like that is a problem waiting to happen loosen it so it sits straight then tie off again .

Hip mounting can lead to wire shorts. The side to side movement puts stress on those connection points. You mention the weakness at the headphone connection, the other connections are also weak points susceptible to shorts.

So which one do you prefer ? The whites PI or the Excalibur ? All around price VS handling and precision finds?

Who repairs the excal blue? My housing connectors broke, and I need a new battery pod as well. Everything else functions well.

They don't have to go into water to start to break down. LOL. My Excalibur story: 4 months in and not been in the water yet it went back for breakage at headphones. 3 weeks to return. 2nd time the on switch wouldn't turn off and still not been wet. Another 3 weeks for return. All warranty. I then started hitting the water a bit. 3rd time was the coil leed. Replaced complete coil @ $340 Aust. 3weeks to return. Now right from the start it was hip mounted and over time they will break. I've gone back to the original set up after spending some of the cash I'd found of the beach on the coil repair. Apart from that it pulled heaps of rings and stuff and over a grand in cash of the beach in its and my first year so I love it as much as my Safari I bought with that cash and the cash from the first 4months of this year for a back up. Come on summer.

dunno what all the complaints down here are from i got 2 excal 2's one xtra for a backup)and never had a problem with either one after 3 years..great detectors that go deep through the dead sea like salt saturation here in florida(some of the saltiest ocean in the atlantic imo) get used to the tones and settings and you'll be literally praising this thing even while out detecting while people are watching you talking to yourself lol oh and btw i checked out your vid on the whites surfmasters and informative as it was i'm still undecided as to which has the simpler operation and best depth the purple model or the black and yellow(pro model)..keep finding that yellow ;P

Nice video, When you change to long shaft or anderson shaft its put extra strain on the headphone cord by the unit, I brought a anderson shaft and in 2 weeks of hunting my cord was wrecked, I used the metal detector for 10 years with no problem, The blue excalibur is better than the new one, i own the excal 800 and brought the new 1000, very disappointed with the performance overloads plus poor sounds and its not the headphones because i swapped the headphones to my blue excal 800 and the variable sounds were great with no over loading, like they say older is better GL HH

I was going to buy a Excal but I hear these about these problems all the time add on its expensive to fix and the customer service is terrible at minelab . Have you had any of these issues? I am going with a Sand shark myself. Any detector with a lifetime warranty work's for me, but this one and many others have a 1 or two year warranty which tells me the company doesn't hold its product to very high standards.

Even with the wire untied is 6-8 inches to short!!! The straight shaft is much better so why do the keep making this stk crappy shaft? I have 2 Blue 1000's and have no problems at all since 2002...Only one lock nut cracked. I use mine on land, woods, fields etc and water, Just soak in clean bath water after each use! I've purchased better knobs with good brass tightening knobs. even hard to turn is no problem. I've read the 1000 Blue is the best one made. I love mine...need to charge batteries I've heard at least every 3 mths or sooner if possible. Heard batteries will go bad eventually if not given charges here and there. don't forget to take tape pf headphone holes if trying to eliminate noise...may trap water inside..after use make sure water is out of hd phones.Wax unit after using if possible and especially shafts ... Make sure sand is out of push lock buttons!

Great review thanks for all of the tips on the Excalibur 2 .. I am picking up my brand new machine from miners den here in Australia.. I will save money by picking it up myself and paying cash.. knocked 200 dollars of the price.. also ordered a straight shaft and knob guard from Anderson shafts so very excited to get in the water 💦 and hunt for some rings etc .. plenty of beaches and swimming places here so hopefully can pick up a few .. I might do a review on my brand new machine?? Ps I subscribed to your channel love it . Check our channel out if you get time cheers from cointector Australia 🇦🇺🍻😎

I BOUGHT AN EXCAL 2 FROM THIS GUY ON EBAY, NEVER ASKED HIM IF HE TOOK IT IN THE WATER...I'M CERTAINLY DECIDED NOT TO SNORKEL WITH IT, THAT SALT WATER SUBMERSION IS NOT THE BEST THING FOR IT, I DO RINSE IT OFF WITH SOAP AND WATER AFTER EVERY USE THOUGH...AND THEN I DRY IT BUT THAT'S WAY DIFFERENT THAN SUBMERSING IT IN SALT WATER WHICH CAUSES PROBLEMS
