    The 3 rules:
    1. Every action is a vote for the type of person you want to become.
    2. Find intrinsic motivation from having pride in achievements instead of rewarding yourself after the work for extrinsic motivation.
    3. Do simple habits like doing 1 push up but give yourself the option to do more of them.

    The advice from Mini Habits actually works for me. I used to tell myself to read 1 chapter of a book per day. Failed. Now I tell myself to read AT LEAST 5 pages a day. I've been doing this for almost a month now and I even often read more than 5 pages when I feel like exceeding my (low) expectations.
    I feel this is extremely helpful for getting over a reading slump lol

    • @mayharmon6948
      @mayharmon6948 Год назад +3

      I do almost the same thing, except with me it's four pages. It does work- I've read something like 30 literary books over the last four years.
      Another tip: give yourself permission to read an excerpt rather than the entire book. Some works of literature are very intimidating, but if you read just a section you can tackle it. Then you get the broad exposure to literature you want and dip in to some great (but difficult) authors. Anthologies work in exactly this manner.

    Here to say even big failures don't need to define you. I failed university intro accounting and intro econ (had a bad semester). I pulled it all back, retook the classes two semesters later, passed both, and ended up getting my CPA with a top Canadian firm 5 years later. You can fail some of the time and still succeed, don't let it define you 💜

  • @zhanazar8305

    Third rule: I love this concept. The brain does not know how to properly perceive things in perspective and for a long period of time. The brain always presents this as one difficult and stressful task, and it is always difficult for us to start doing what we SHOULD do even if we ourselves came up with the idea. 30 push-ups is awfully hard, but only 5 is ridiculously easy, and when we do that we can continue if we WANT to. WANTING and being OBLIGED to do something are completely different things. After 5 push-ups, we overcome the unrealistic idea of the activity and understand it better, at the same time, we do not set ourselves tasks more difficult than "Well, one more push-up." This play with needs and perceptions is wonderful.

    This was a comment on a different video. I'm just taking advantage of this video being more recent hoping you would read it.
    I just stumbled upon your channel half an hour ago and I'm in love. I've only watched the video about tricking your brain and I tried taking it in small steps. I finished the essay I've been procrastinating on for days. Though I really hope you would avoid adding background music to your videos because it gives me anxiety and trouble focusing. I find watching productivity videos with background music to be counterproductive for me at least because music only makes me feel more empty.. and less willing to do things. The information you're providing is already golden, so removing the music really wouldn't lessen the quality of your videos. Hope you would take this into consideration, thanks! Keep going man. You're helping a lot of people

    I find that good task management software is indispensable to picking up good habits. I think it's because it helps me remember all I've committed to, and also provides that "small win", since I really enjoy checking off a task and having it disappear as much as anything else I could do. I get to feel I've been successful, even if my physical environment is far from perfect.

    • @blessedeternally2666

    The Mini Habits is how I started a lot of habits, but one was reading for fun again. All I did was open the book each night. LITERALLY, I did not have to read a word or a sentence, just open to where I would start reading. Naturally our brains bring us to the words :) Now I'm on the ninth book since starting FOR FUN instead of just for school.
    Edit: The second point, intrinsic motivation... I didn't realize I was celebrating my wins, but I knew it was releasing dopamine. So that's cool.
