Absolutely the most informative video I've seen on fireboxes (engines). I am starting to build my first UDS. I can't go wrong thanks to videos like yours. Thanks brother. Keep on smoking!
Thank you, good luck on the build. Building a drum and the engine helps you understand what's its doing should do and when things go wonky (like ash buildup causing smothering or lack of air flow/exhaust. Have a great week 🤘 🖤
Great video, sir! To be honest, the fire basket is kind of what’s been holding me back from starting my own build. You’ve given me some great ideas and shown me that it CAN be done - thanks!
Thanks Tim, and your welcome. the basket is easily the most important piece. Building it doesn't have to be rocket science hahaha. All these work great and are simple no weld projects that can be fun with a kid or 2. Have a great week 🤘🤘
A very timely video for me as I'm about to undertake my first UDS build. All of the options you showed looked great and very doable (i.e. no welding), and seeing what could be used for the deflector shields was good info. Thanks for an informative and straight forward video.
Your welcome Wayne, the whole purpose was to show inexpensive possibilities. Thank you for commenting I enjoy reading how my videos have help someone. Good luck on your build and have a great week 🤘🤘
Thanks Mike, it's a topic that can be a "this is it, only this way" thing. Hopefully it gives more ideas for inexpensive diy projects. Have a great week
@@smoking_bears_ you have a great week too sir ! As great as youtube is its nothing without the people that take the time and effort to film videos that help people out ! Much respect !
Dude, you have some creative ideas. Subscribed to explore more of your channel's content. I see an upside down 55 gal drum in the background, I assume for easy clean out of grease after the cook? Grease clean up after the fact has been a concern, but your idea should fix that. Anyway, thanks for this vid. Love my weber kettle, but gonna build a UDS soon. They look like a blast to cook on. Thumbs up, peace brother.
Thanks Bud, yeah a uds is an awesome cooker and so versatile. The upside down drum is super easy to clean it comes apart similar to a weber smokey mountain. Good luck on your build, the main things are air flow and have fun building it. Have a great week 🤘 🖤
Great video. My original UDS uses expanded metal wrapped around a Weber charcoal rack. I’m strongly considering making a BCF to replace it with. I have STŌK grill I may start using the dome lid from it on a UDS as you did. I enjoyed the video.
Thanks Big Lew, the Stok grill is pretty awesome grill. A mod u make to the BCF would be cut the bottom out and use a pizza pan or something as an ash catcher. Have a great week
Smoking_Bears_ I use a pizza pan for the current expanded metal one. Trouble with me making a UDS is finding a. Metal 5 gallon bucket that is not zinc plated or galvanized.
Smoking_Bears_ there is a farm and ranch supply place near me. They have tin lard cans 6 gallon size for $19.99. I’ll check the Amazon for a 5 gallon steel. Thanks.
Well shoot that’s crazy cool bear! I wish I had your skills, I just fumble my way through building things. I do want to make a UDS at some point. Awesome job brother for sure. And have a great week bear clan!
Thanks Unc, skills are really just playin around in the garage avoiding the wifes honey do list. Hahaha. Building a drum is super easy, just drilling holes thru a barrel. Engines are as complicated as you want it to be. Start basic then add on. Have a great week Unc
Thanks Karl, the difference between the BCF and a regular basket is in a BCF the ashes fall to the bottom of the bucket, and is self contained. Good for shorter cook like ribs and shorter. Also great if your experimenting with different charcoal brands, if ya dont like a brand less in the basket to discard. Where in a big basket it maybe full. The regular big ones I'll fill full and get a couple long cooks as well as shorter cooks in. Just pull the basket shake and empty ash pan and go. Just my $0.02 Have a great week 🤘🤘
Wow Lee I didn’t realize you had so many cookers. Nice engine designs there. I especially like the perforated pizza pan idea. Are you joining Big Lew’s UDS build colab? I think the vids drop in early June?
Thanks Gary, yeah I've got a few hahaha they are addictive. Yeah I'll be joining Big Lew's collab, thought I'd break mine into segments so I dont end up with a looooong video. Have a great week Bud
@@smoking_bears_ awesome thanks. I think I saw that guy in a fb group I just joined. Just started smoking meat this summer. $20 gas brinkman. Putting an ugly drum together now. Thanks for the response and for your videos!

Is the pizza pan (on the bcf) aluminum?
Yes, it's one of those pans with holes in it that I drilled a few bigger ones.

What does BCF stand for?
BCF stands for Beer Can Fischer, which is the name of the guy credited for the design. Have a great week 🤘🖤🤘
