Great performance: Ivory Joe, the rendition, the band and background vocals. Ain’t nothin’ like an all-the-way live music performance - - no lip-synching, no auto-tune, no pre-recorded tracks, no click tracks, no loops. Just in-the-moment, in that place, for that audience soul. Class☮️♥️
Ed saw race on how black entertainers got no tv time....Growing up in Harlem he saw first hand the racism.....He would have none of it on his show..........He deserves a statue somewhere near the Apollo theater
I checked the Atlantic session files, this was recorded for wax on Sept. 5, 1956 with the Ray Ellis orchestra. It became an instant hit. Thanks for posting!
I think I first heard this wonderful song in '59. Although just a lad, I was enchanted with this most wonderful song. And now at 74 I'm still so moved when ever I play it.
Hello. Ivory Joe Hunter was my uncle. We are placing a memorial monument at the Black History Museum in Monroe, Louisiana for him on Saturday, February 17, 2024. I can't find any source showing that Ed Sullivan presented Ivory Joe with the gold record. How did you find it, so I can mention it at the program.
This is from one of the episodes on which Ed featured several top pop singers of the day singing their hit singles back to back. Others on this show included Sonny James, Betty Johnson, the Tarriers, Russell Arms and Jill Corey. "Since I Met You Baby", which Ivory Joe wrote, charted at number 12 on the Billboard Pop chart and number 1 R&B. This is the only video I've ever seen of him. Thank you for posting these great videos of the hits of the 1950's! I hope you will also post Jill Corey singing "I Love My Baby" and Betty Johnson singing "I Dreamed" from this episode.
A TOP Song and a very fine voice for sure!...btw this Song was recorded by Dean Martin in 1983 for his very last Long Play Studio Album "The Nashville Sessions"
¡Wow! Esta vez SÍ que se lucieron! Es una verdadera rareza ver videos del MAESTRO 'Ivory' Joe Hunter. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS! Nadie canta ni toca el piano como él. ¡Saludos desde México!
This song is so simple, yet so mellow and pleasant to the ears. I own the record and still stream it on Spotify. I could listen to it no matter what I’m doing or what mood I’m in. RIP Ivory Joe Hunter & Ed Sullivan.
I Almost Lost My Mind was a big crossover in ‘49/‘50, lots of artists covered it, notably a hit version by Pat Poone in 1956 (the year before this appearance).

Anybody who can play piano AND sing at the same time has my respect.
now there's a guy who can truly sing!
One of the greatest singer/songwriters of that era. A big influence on Elvis and on Sonny James.
Love this song, words, tune, vocalist here. Takes me back. ❤️🎵
In very loving memory of Mr. Ivory Joe Hunter (1911 - 1974 R.I.P. Gone but NOT forgotten).
My great great uncle . Beautiful
Hello. My name is Brenda Roy. Uncle Joe lived next door to us in Monroe, LA. Are you in Texas?
cool
I think he'd be proud im listening to him still in 2024❤
My grandmother knew him.. And he would stay at her house. When he
was on the road..
ED Sullivan did not see race, religion, sexual orientation...he saw talent. The world was luckyto have him.

@@jesse2375 Agreed!
ED SULLIVAN IS THE MAN!!!😀👍🏿
Ed Sullivan changed the world of music on February 9, 1964 when he booked a group of 'fine youngsters' from Liverpool called The Beatles.
@@jesse2375 - Or how about in front of The Ed Sullivan Theatre?

I remember this song as a little girl on the radio. It was a big hit.
Ed also presented Ivory Joe with a Gold record for the recording. Too bad we didn't get to see that.
I wouldn't have minded seeing that either. Thank you for sharing! 💖

RIP Ivory Joe Hunter & Ed Sullivan.
i have the 45, the 78 and the LP. Still need the EP
I just have the 45. It plays well but it’s kinda warped. I might get the 78 one day.
An all time favorite. Great Classic.
Absolutely wonderful! I always loved this song. It would be wonderful for a slow dance. Thank you for sharing it. God Bless You and stay safe.
Pure magic...
Later on in the show Sullivan presented a gold record to Hunter for his song selling a million copies
This is great! I’m surprised Ed and his producers had any idea who Ivory Joe Hunter was.
