Do you have kids and wonder if it is worth it to take them to an amusement park? Theme parks can be quite a challenge with children, but we are here to help you plan out the perfect day at a park!
In this video, we rode the classic Cedar Point roller coaster Raptor. This coaster has been around since 1994 and has been a fan favorite ever since. B&M built this inverted coaster and made it the fastest, longest and tallest of it’s time! Has it held up over the years?
We hadn’t ridden this coaster is about six years and decided it was about time to see how it compares to all the new roller coasters Cedar Point has since built. We were able to use our Platinum passes to arrive at the park early and get early access! With a minimal wait, we were on the ride within minutes.
We were impressed and surprised by how much we still enjoy this roller coaster! The loops, twists and inversions keep the thrill level high! There is a cobra roll which twists you in so many ways you don’t know which way is up. Then there are two corkscrews! The ride ends with a flat helix that spins you around and you experience extreme g-forces! This part always makes us dizzy!
This coaster is very thrilling and quite smooth as well for it’s age! There are a few rough spots where we wish it had a smoother track, especially at the ending as you pull back into the station. When comparing it to some of the new coasters like Gatekeeper and Valravn, it is definitely a bit rougher, however, it is also a bit more thrilling! Those coasters are great at being smooth and making you feel like you are floating through the air. Raptor is great at whipping you around and getting your adrenaline pumping!
This classic is far from boring and definitely brings the thrills! We think this coaster should be here to stay for many years to come. We understand why it is such a great first ride when entering the park. It always has a long line and there is a good reason for that! We feel like this roller coaster is in our top ten favorites at Cedar Point!

Gemini was my first “big” coaster at CP, but Raptor was right after and I was a bit surprised at how not intense it was… like I was expecting it to be super intense and thrilling and it’s not that I didn’t like, because I really enjoyed it, but it wasn’t crazy. Idk how to describe it like I was disappointed and not at the same time lol

Sometimes the coasters are over hyped or dramatized! We think Raptor is definitely more thrilling than Gemini, but can understand how you felt. There are definitely some more intense coasters out there! Thanks for watching and sharing!

Raptor hurts my feet on the corkscrews and that final helix! It feels like it's gonna rip my legs off lol

That is crazy! We have never heard anyone say that before and haven’t noticed ourselves but that doesn’t sound comfortable!

I was at CP this Sunday on the 1st and thank goodness for Early Entry. I got two rides on Raptor back to back. Absolute walk on at 9:15am. The trains were barely half full. A ride front row and a ride back row. It still slaps imo, especially in the front row. The back row can get a little bit rough to the ears with some of the extra whipping that it gets.
To compare, I was at CP on a Wednesday two weeks ago and the line for Raptor at around 11am was easily an hour and a half long.

Yes! That’s awesome you were able to experience both the front and the back - back to back! Early entry is so fantastic!!

We agree the back can get a little rough! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts and experience!

I like to kick my Cedar Pointe day off with a couple of back-to-back Corkscrew rides...the whiplash and traumatic brain injuries really get the blood pumping.

😂🤣yea that will definitely get the blood pumping! You may not make it onto any other rides though! 😂

I usually go to cork screw first then make my way to the back of the park for steel vengeance

Raptor was incredible when it first opened. I can remember waiting 6 hours to ride it. It was so smooth!! Haven’t been on it in a few years. I will this year. Steel usually has a good lifespan of about 10 Years. After that. It starts to get very bumpy and sometimes they hurt. Then the ride depends on when the changed the wheels. They change wheels every three to five years. So when the Coaster is running good they changed the wheels not to long ago. Everything at CP is worth riding but Corkscrew. That thing hurt 20 years ago. I have no desire to ever ride that again.

6 hours?! 😳 yikes that’s intense! Thanks for the info - that makes perfect sense. We feel like there are a few coasters that are due for some replacements. Corkscrew we think is beyond being fixed and may not last much longer. Last time we did it we felt like it may be a decent starter coaster for kids, but we don’t plan to do it again since there are so many other coasters that we love at CP!

Raptor is amazing, but it's extremely loud. It sounds cool off ride, but on ride, I feel like my ear drums are going to pop.

We never gave this much thought, but now that you mention it, it is quite loud! It does sound cool when you are off the ride, but the noise while riding could be a bit much. Thanks for sharing!

You guess my second favorite ride, also had to used row 4 extended safety belt it was due to my boarded shoulders and torso, also I rode it socked feet.
