    I was at this amazing show on 4/1. I remember that road trip like it was yesterday... Landover MD, Greensboro, Atlanta, Orlando! What an amazing trip! Thanks Johnny and Pete in the fisherman;s hat.

    This was my 3rd Grateful Dead show, and it was incredible!! The "Full" Dark Star was the highlight of the night!!

  • @SalemFadel
    @SalemFadel 10 лет назад +21

    This and the night before were two incredible shows. Surely two of the tightest, best played shows from start to end of the 90s. I was going to school at UNC-G at the time; lived within walking distance to the coliseum. Both shows were so full of energy. 3/31 has one of the best (IMHO) Eyes ever. BIG thanks for posting this memory!

      Dude! I totally agree with the Eyes... I've been to many a show and that Eyes was amazing... these were the best two shows on the Spring '91 tour!

      There were some highlights in 87, 88, but 89 thru 91, some of the best Dead. There were some highlights afterwards, but they were few, and far between.

    I got shut out the night before...couldnt find a ticket for the life of me. Had about the same luck up until about 10 minutes till showtime on 4/1.....and low and behold....A MIRACLE!!! Apparently someone saw it in my eyes, just how much I needed to get in that night. And that Dark Star was just what the doctor ordered. Yowsa!!!

    This was one of my last shows and the last truly good one I saw/heard. My wife and I had been dead heads for some time and had never caught a Dark Star. We liked to dance on the back of the floor where the sound was good and the space was available. While I don't think there are any Dark Stars from the latter days that compare to the ones from '70-73, this is a good one.

    Of the shows I saw, two had spacey Birdsong's at the end of the first set. This is the second one, the first was 9/3/88 at the Cap Center, the Ripple show. Guess a great Birdsong is a sign of astonishing things to come.

    Thank you, Voodoo Nola! I was fortunate to be able to attend these two nights in Greensboro, and it was one of the best two-night sets ever. It was like this show was a continuation of 3/31 with a 21 hour set break.

    OH Yeah! I was at these shows, this one in particular I remember. I was in the first row of the lower level. Trippin' hard too. The second set transported me to another galaxy, I almost lost my mind during the Dark Star>Space>Playin'>Dark Star. When they went into Black Peter I was so happy and needing the break from almost losing my shit. Mind blowing. Great times, awesome show.

    Two friends and I were dancing in this amazing triangle with all the rest of the folks in the halls. After the China rider the cops grouped together em masse and started pushing everyone back and breaking up the dancing. Suddenly the band went into Dark Star and the energy became so intense that all the cops found themselves lined up against the wall awestruck. Utterly amazing.

    The police and security were non existent at these shows. Well at least for me. Of course Im from Maryland where If you think security and the police are bad where ever you are from, ask people who have been to the Cap Centre or RFK how bad they are there. Of course the shows were always stellar so I alway took the risk. Like many of us did. Ahh the good ole days.

    I know Jerry said he loved the Rosebud guitar, but to my ears it lacked the punch of his other guitars. Still, these were great shows and I feel very lucky to have been there.

    • @veek.6463
      @veek.6463 7 лет назад +2

      Yeah Rosebud has a kind of controlled sound- lots and lots of awesome effects on her. She sounds like she looks. I'm a Tiger girl but Diddo- am in love with the first Travis Bean the 1000, the Alligator that Nash gave him and the Wolf. The Wolf is just unreal. It is a serious serious electric guitar- one of the most seriously devastating electric guitars ever but is can also sound so sweetly and careful. I also totally dig the little black and white guitar- don't even know the model and make- that he played in Space. One of these shows he stays on it for the first song out of space which is cool to see. All the guitars were amazing. Which reminds me to spend more time with the Bolt- my feeling of that guitar is just serious heavy artillery. Check out the few JGB shoes where Rosebud got played. She sounds nice and elegant in a concert hall setting. Not a a trace of barbed sound on that guitar- really the epitome of Grateful Dead smooth Rosebud is and highly capable. Sorry long. I could talk about the guitars all day even though I know nothing about them- and yet I know them like I know my favorite old pajama sets- I know what they feel like. Peace and love. May all beings benefit by all of Garcia's guitars and his miraculous performances on them.

    • @joefelice5062
      @joefelice5062 7 лет назад +1

      Of course he liked the guitar, that was my point. But it sounds quite different to the fans in the back of the arena than it does through the ear monitor - and even though it surely felt great in his hands, he proved over 30+ years that he could pick up any guitar and make it sing (see the Melk Weg shows from 81). Just my opinion about his tone, I am certainly no authority.

    • @joefelice5062
      @joefelice5062 7 лет назад

      I really liked the SG from the late 60's era too, so loud. But Tiger was just, to me, the top of the heap. So much controlled power, electric wooden birds, wings clacking and humming through the wind, I think of those 80's Morning Dews. Unmatched in rock music IMHO.

    • @dreamkane
      @dreamkane 3 года назад

      It didn’t sound like whip when Jerry was scrubbing high on the neck like Tigger could, esp w JGB, but way it opened up Jerry’s ability to use midi patched on the fly was worth it. The most interesting thing about the end to me was Jerry trying to play trumpet thru Rosebud. He couldn’t sing anymore, really, but he could say ‘I’m a great trumpet player,’ which he used to tell people in the 90s. R.I.P. old man. Sorry we killed you
