OLD vs NEW Baitcaster Casting Test (Surprising Results!!!)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 мар 2021
- In today's viDEBO I put a couple OLD casting reels up against two NEWER casting reels. I get questions about average casting distance, old vs new, etc. Today...we're going to do some real world testing with these baitcasters. I was surprised by the results!

0:46 why is there a goat in Walmart 😂😂
He goes by Debo.. lol
(I got ya, just had to say it)
@@bobjalockowitz1568 😂
Brooo i started looking around my house like what is that!?!? Hahahaha
Ponds are opening up here in the Nor’ East ! Should have open water next weekend. These vids have helped get through the nightmare that is winter
I can’t wait any longer for spring
Same here
Took my new Curado DC out this past weekend just to cast in the only water I could find that wasn't frozen, MAAAAAAN you can just launch something out there with that thing! Cool to see those old reels!
I can't wait to get my Curado DC out there this weekend!
I cast a baitcaster for the first time in my life today (after watching all your old tutorials 3 times each!!). Thank you for all the good information! Looking forward to applying!
So handy!. Crack me up Debo. Your excitement is contagious.
SOOOO handy!🤣
Cool video man. Always enjoy watching
That was a cool video Debo. Glad to know that I'm not the only one casting in parking lots. And your Walmart has a great fishing department, at least compared to the one near me. Next test you could do spinning reels, or even old school spincaster reels like the Zebco a lot of us grew up using. Thanks again man for all you do for us. Much appreciated. 🎣👍
Great video! Quite interesting to see the difference between the old and new reels! 🎣
keep the gear reviews coming. really cool seeing the old stuff in use 👌🏼
Love seeing Steve Kennedy still rockin the Curado B series on the elites...
Pretty cool video. Thanks for varying the content for us.
Let’s see more. Love the gear stuff!!
Great video and test I look forward to more
Debo I appreciate the big effort to make this video with snow still on the ground. I'm hoping you can do more more shootouts with popular reels.
I like the tape measure which minimizes error in testing. If you can get a helper to stand out there to mark where the lure landed it will be easier on your legs and back.
Loving those old reels. Awesome. A throwback gear video would be dope!
Your one of the few fishing RUclips channels left that isn't all gimmicks just for views. And hope it doesn't change, love your content 🤙
Keep up the great work Debo.
Cool video Debo!
That was pretty fun. It'd be cool to see how much better the reels are after some maintenance. I'd definitely watch a whole series based on old reels now that I'm all old and nostalgic. I have one I can lend ya.
Good stuff ! 🎣
I have that cc80 reel, on spool speed bearings and the distance improved, tremendously
Debo, love seeing you mix in the old school with the new stuff. The comparisons are great for making decisions if you’re hung up on a coupla pieces of gear. Sometimes the smallest thing can make or break your choices. Thanks for great video 👊
I agree 100% More knowledge is better!
Hey Debo, those orange seal spool bearings are from Boca Bearing. They are ceramic bearings I had them in my Curado E7 as well.
I know it’s getting warmer here in Iowa. I can’t wait to get out on the water. Great video. It looks like you definitely got your cardio in for the day.LOL
those e7 are my favorite , great video love this kind of stuff.
Still good to this day!
My cousin has that same curado. That's the reel i used when i decided to put aside time and force myself to learn how to use a bait caster!
Yes, I'd like to see the real budjet reel tests, Black Max, Lews ?, compareable the the Max.
Cool video, got your exercise for the day 😳😄😄.
Love the review
Thanks for all you do Debo!
And thank you for always watching and supporting +
@@DEBOSFishing also thanks for the killer crankbait, looks awesome! Wife made a box for it and hung it in the man cave:)
Thanks for sharing
Those Ozark Trails have a very tight wobble and worked very well for my last fall and winter.
Those old reels bring back a lot of good memories. Wish I kept mine.
Mikey and Bog are awesome, he’s really got a lot of great videos. I always appreciate the content you give us definitely helps
He seems like a good dude.
Yeah, that rod had gone up to $79 as soon as you posted the review of it. Plus wasn't easy to find either. Cool comparisons. I wonder if doing it again with better line would have much of a difference in the order of results. Plus that older Curado may change things up if was gone over and tweaked a bit. Great vid as always. Thanks, man!!
Like the comparison of old verses new
Great video! My CC80 performs great. It did take a bit to break in. Any plans on doing a video on spring prep, gear and baits?
Good testing, I've noticed casting on blacktop makes your line snap much easier. I'm not sure if it was the omniflex or just getting scuffed up from the blacktop. I don't use omniflex much these days but I used to and I thought it did good. Anyways good video 🎣
I have a couple of old Bantam. Still one of my favorites. I keep them clean and they cast better than your test, but I like the ease of use and reliability. They are bulletproof. Also have a couple of E7 series. A little better reel but I still go to the Bantam.
Very interesting.
Thank you for doing this kind of video. 20+ years ago I started using my new Shimano reel. The guy at the bait shop who helped me with my new reel said when I got used to it, I could cast as far as I wanted. He was right. Sometimes I couldn’t help but get my line caught up on the beach when I was fishing from a boat.
Now I have graduated to the newer bait casting models because I want to add saltwater fishing as well as improve my fresh water fishing.
I have a KastKing MegaJaws, KastKing Tatuls Elite, a heavy duty Shimano for my tuna stick, and most recently I have the Shimano Scorpion DC 100HG.
With the exception of the tuna stock, all of these new reels have come with challenges.
Could you do some videos on how to cast with these newer reels starting with the Shimano DC version. Each of these have subtleties that I am unfamiliar with, and the directions give no help.
Do you also have private sessions that questions can be answered?
Thanks I love this channel. Fishing has changed so much over the years, and it is great to see channels like these.
I have several of those Curados, two are the BSF. I have hybrid bearings ordered from Ali and carbon drag washers coming as well. I clean some of my striped down reels in an ultra sonic cleaner. I hope to have time to do a cast test comparing the reel before and after cleaning, and with dry bearings, add then with the hybrid bearings. I fish a lot of saltwater, so I have lubed the current bearings. I wasn't aware of how much distance lubing the bearings might be costing me. Especially since I often give the internals a squirt of Corrosion X to protect the innards. Corrosion X is awesome stuff, but probably not the best stuff for maximizing casting distance. All my Curados are probably at least 18 to 20 years old and the innards and bearings are good. I have had to replace the pawls on at least one. Probably from winching in big redfish.
One tip, when you reel in the extra line before trying to pull out of, or break off a snag, don't reel down so hard that you put a lot of pressure on the pawl and worm gear. Take up the slack, then use your thumb to keep the spool from turning. That will save a lot of wear and tear on your reels.
I'm fishing a couple of Shimano SLX XTs vs Daiwa Tatula CTs this year to compare. First impressions: Both are quality reels that cast far and smoothly. The Shimano seems a little smoother when reeling. I really like the knobs on the Shimano. It's really close but I give the Shimano SLX XT a slight nod so far. I'll know more at the end of 2021.
Love this video. Great idea. Buying left can save a TON of money lol
It certainly can! I use both left and right handed so I get whatever is cheaper 🤣
Definitely do more Old vs New Baitcasting videos I like this. I still use my Old Abu and Daiwa from the early 90’s. Hey what was up with the CC80 noise Lol Damn Daiwa..
Good vid like to see more like that
All I use is curado/chronarch e200’s! Such a workhorse!
A Zebco 33 or even a 202 would smoke the competition as far as distance. It's about accuracy, smoothness, drag and how it fits your hand. And most important, does it look cool on your rod.
I would love to watch you do this with the Slx dc! Just got mine and was surprised it wasn’t longer, maybe bc I was using a spinner bait and they are the most aerodynamic but still.
Enjoyed the video. Just bought an Abu ProMax and a beautiful Abu Vengeance Next Gen 7’ MH rod. I’ve gotten better at casting, I just don’t know what rods/reels to use with which bait.
I’m gonna be using a baitcaster for the first time this year. I’m 52 so better late then never as they say. I’ll be watching all your old videos on how to use it. The learning curve is gonna be interesting! Great video Debo!! Michigan wins the Big Ten Title!!〽️🏀
Like anything else...it just takes consistent practice! Also...I hope Michigan does really well...but loses to the hawks in the final...🤦♂️😜
@@DEBOSFishing hopefully the big ten does good and if Michigan doesn’t make it all the way I will root for the black and gold!! Tight lines my feeshin friend!!
great videbo. That bantam for sure sounded rough.
Yeah, definitely had better days!
Would like to see you test your work horses, slx, tatula, lfs (etc). Thanks for the video Debo.
I use exclusively Daiwa Tatula reels. I bought a CC80 with the sole intention of putting 300lb braid on it and tying it to my plug knocker. Works great for that :P !
C'mon Debo Nation let's get the best damn fishing channel to 100k!!!!!!!!
Means a lot to me man!
There’s a YT video I’ve seen of the shimano scorpion I think is like the Japanese version of the Curado dc, apparently you can cast a full 100 yards. Be awesome to put some of the new reels to the casting test on some of these older reels also.
The ozark trail (walmart brand) lures can be a big hit or a big miss. I have had some great fish from them, but would definitely recommend changing the hooks( either weak or brittle). Oh the omni flex in 4lbs is decent brought in a 30" walleye on it with a spinning light action rod.
Great as aways
Nice vid glad to see some wal-marts are keeping their fishing area stocked. They don’t at my local store
Ours is usually really picked over!
My first baicatser was a bantam curado I got it last year at a yard sale
"Got lures, screaming kids..." Sounds about right.
The vids are amazing
Green Machine! Green Machine! Green Machine! Good jerb Debo!
cant wait to see you review the reel i’m sending you dawg! it casts far lol
What reel???
Excited to try it!
Great video Debo! Those shimano reels aren't old, I should send you a Magnunlite speedmaster I have from the 80's! Lol they still keep on cranking! Keep up the great tips and advice buddy! 👍
I have some oldies from my pops too! Thanks for always watching and supporting man!
Check those lews xfinity rods out debo. They're awesome! Grab 1 to test out your gonna like them.
Can you also test some more Shimano reels? I am interested in the newer reels.
At $2, those Ozark Trail lipless cranks are great. Hooks only last a few trips before they need sharpening, but they are great for bank fishing new water cause if it gets hung up I'm not tempted to go in after it.
Yeah, I donate a lot of lures bank fishing!
Would like to see test comparisons on Garcia 5000 and 5500C compared with recent new reels of today. All reels should be clean at the beginning for a fair review.
Another great video Debo! Have you tried any of the Piscifun products? Doing an unboxing and review of the Torrent combo this weekend. They are great budget reels.
I haven't used any of theirs.
I also picked up their low profile Spark, still trying to zero it in correctly. I don’t know if it’s because I’m not used to low profile reels, or if it’s lower quality than the Torrent, but it doesn’t seem to have the same smoothness and distance on a cast.
It’s actually the fact that it’s a BFS reel that I need to get used to. Probably need to throw lighter lures on it.
My giant pet peeve is squalling kids at Walmart 😡. Big plus taking Mr. Stubb's with you. Good video 👍👍
A video idea could be a obstacle coarse thing for practicing pitching and flipping where you show technic and rod/reel setup(breaks, tension). Where you show precision to put lure on targets, into buckets, under overhangs. Hopefully that all makes sense. Anyways great video.
I have one EXACTLY like that planned!
Mr Stubbs is a champ. Star of the show.
ozark trail cranks are pretty good too I’m pretty sure Walmart contract them out
I'd love to see your favorite reels shootout. SLX, Tatula 100, REVO, KVD LFS.
Totally agree. This is a must film Debo!
Nice in my area up NORTH , but WINDY!!
Maybe next time grab some of those tiny flags (as a visual aid for those of us watching this on a phone 😂)
With those flags try a $70 reel vs a $100 reel
Don’t forget to put up those numbers and the average on the screen 😁, I don’t even remember which one had which distance
Best casting distance is the lews classic pro reel. Spooled up with a Berkeley Fire line 100% fluorocarbon. You'll thank me later. Lure has to be 3/8th to 1oz with 7ft MH rod. I swear it's like a rocket 🚀 probably goes up to Iowa from Texas 😉
The other day I came across a Shimano Corrado, 200E7 and I bought it and it’s a dope real
I just cleaned out ozark trail at my local Walmart. Hooks are sharp right outta the box and the paint is sealed well. Only thing I haven’t tested is their actions. Great prices too!
They're solid for what they are. Good bodies, crappy hardware.
@@craigstuckey319 yeah people said the hardware. Do they mean the hooks or the hook clasp? The hooks are sharp but I wouldn’t know about their strength
@@richardsousa2625 all of the above and all of the above are junk on Ozark.
Sunny in central Texas and a beautiful 65
Have an old. Quantum probe size 10 but no papers saying what the gear ratio/bearings or line specs. Got any suggestions?
Glad to hear the crunchy outro music is back. LOL!
I love that music too!
I could here that kid screaming from Minnesota 😂😂 great vid btw👍🏽
I can still hear the bellows 🤣

He catches giants on everything 🤣
Florida. Dont feel bad.
Yes yes he does and he uses that rod also lol
@@derekwilliams6403 true!
Dang you shoulda brought something with some speedspool after market barrings
200 E7 prevails never underestimate the old stuff😄
Been waiting for you to upload. Also have you ever use any of the megabass i slide swimbaits?
I have not used those.
@@DEBOSFishing heard gold things about them they make a 135 and 185 and a 262 you should get the 135 or 185 and try it out and give a review would love to hear what your thoughts on them are.
That old reel is the Curado B series, they were sold from 94-97.
Debo hear me out... you might get more consistent results with a softer easier to manage line like Trilene XL. Use the Omniflex as backing. Use a uni to uni to tie the Onmiflex to the Trilene XL. Since your max distance was 111.5 ft, which is about 9.3 yards. You can use about 30 yards of XL so you never reach the backing.
You can even transfer reel to reel the 30 yards of XL so you're not wasting anything. Another tip with the Omniflex backing is put a 1/2 inch strip of masking tape across the spool to prevent the backing from birdnesting! Now you can tie your uni to uni to XL or even extra fluoro you have around but too short to use. You don't need many wraps with the uni to uni because you should never reach the knot during your test.
You can also transfer the Omniflex backing to your next set of casting reels so you're not wasting line.
I have a few packs of that Zebco line. It certainly isn't my go to line but I'm sure reeling the lure in on asphalt would do some significantl damage to the strength of any line. I think it will probably last a lot longer if thrown in water. 😊
@@macjig5148 On water it's hard to get an accurate measurement on distance. Debo has done tests in the past on grass. That asphalt is tearing up his line. But his grass still got snow on it. I would suggesting using a high vis lure if future tests are on grass.
Can you try Kastking reels and rods Sir? I would like to know your opinion on them.
Can you do a review on the Lew's inshore Speed Spool lfs 130$ reel
It’s funny I’m right handed but I always choose a lefty baitcaster. I grew up on a spin reel that cranked on the left side.
The Corado Bantam was the first bait caster I ever owned. At the time I could hit anything at any distance I wanted.
I unfortunately had several years that I did not fish ( long story). I have a number of new bait casters ( Scorpion DC, Tautla Elite, and Kastking Megajaws)
Can you test any of these, other than the Bantam. Thanks.
I still use 4 of them😂
Debo is the best fishing channel!!! Debo if you’re reading this thumbs up? I’ve watched almost all your videos !
Appreciate that a lot man!
mean greens are def the best, i have a few
Yo Debo make a video with ss1sshla lew's 👍 I'm certainly late to party on any bait casters.. I ended up getting that one..
DEEBBBBOOOOO!! LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!
Nice vid as usual, are you still planning a revo x review? Or am I missing an upload?
I am...I haven't done it yet...🤦♂️
@@DEBOSFishing no rush man, take your time, i'm just wondering what you think about the reel, fyi I already own one it was my first ever bait caster.
