    I realize this videos a year old but I actually just purchased two of the left-handed models and when you can get them for $60-$67 each there is no reason that you shouldn't. Granted back when I was heavy into Tournament Fishing I owned nothing but the old green Corrado's back in the 90s and then I got a great package deal on a half a dozen high-end revos that were less than a year old. Both reels we're work horses for years. Now that I'm older and I don't do the tournament scene anymore but I still like to have a half a dozen different setups there is no reason to go out and spend $175 on one reel when you can almost get three for the same price.
    I was actually going to switch to the Lew's LFS this year but once I checked out the CG 80s I decided against it because I already had 4 of the CR series. I also just recently picked up a CA 80 XSL because I wanted the 8.3 to 1 ratio. Although I am disappointed that this particular reel only has 11 lbs of drag!!

    The wife got me the fuego CT for Xmas. I had found it for $63 on amazon so she bought it. It's my favorite to use after a few trips. Not my farthest caster but my most enjoyable. I agree with the graphite. My casitas started grinding so to speak after a few big hooksets on larger fish. 3 4 lbrs. Good video. You always seem to have the same tastes as me. Lol

    If u watch "The Reel Test" n his reviews on the CG80, he explains that the factory that manufacture that reel also makes the Lews LFS. That's why they're so similar.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад +2

      Yea, I was trying to subtly drop that. I didn't want to go into that in the video because I wanted it to be just the product info and my experience. I feel like people say well that reel is made in China so it's not good. I've had that speed spool for...well...more to come in the next vid. Lol. Thanks for watching man!

    Great review! I’m interested in the lower price models but I just can’t see any reason to choose this reel over the Lews or the other one, primarily because the graphite v aluminum construction. Am I missing something? That being said, I have very little experience with bait casting rigs, and I’m looking for the best reel around $100. I just bought a FibLink 7.6 MH with fast action, so it needs a reel! I’m learning a ton from these videos, about technique and how it works with tackle. With that reel being that similar to the Lew's, I think along with a longevity comparison, a comparison of customer service might be something to consider, if ever needed. I own a couple of Lew's, the Speed Spool LFS, and the Tournament Speed Spool SLP, and really like them both. The SLP had a factory issue in that the side plate has been known to pop off, mine almost did once, Lew's knew about this, and shipped me an updated plate no charge. Might be interesting to see if Daiwa does anything about that trim piece that's coming loose.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад

      Yea, I've been happy with all of the Lew's reels that I've used and had. You're right because if you have to call a company and get bad service, it completely ruins your view of that company. Even though it just may have been one or two people who work there, they are the face of the company. Great point!

    I have owned the cc80 for 3months I fish everyday. The reel is still solid and smooth
    ***update*** 7 months later the real started making noise and had to be cleaned and lubed. And the real is not as smooth as it was before. But still holding up fishing daily.
    **update** 3 years later, only cleaned twice in three years this reel is a real dandy for the price. The reel feels the same as the 7 month update and holds up to daily fishing still. I still using it. The decals have wore off but the reel is worth it

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад +1

      Any gear ratio will work for a Texas rig. You'll just have to reel more to make more pitches. Additionally, you could get in situations where it's hard to pick up line if a fish comes at you or into brush. But if that is all you have, ROCK IT!

  • @HeavilyArmed
    @HeavilyArmed 5 лет назад +2

    It’s not a bad reel but in my opinion as an angler and as a tackle shop owner, you’d be wise to spend a bit more and get one of the new Tatula 100H reels. I would like it if Daiwa came out with a CR80 with a twitchin’ bar like on the Megaforce reel. I have one of those and use it when throwing soft plastics. The Fuego is totally a solid reel too. Pretty much everything from Daiwa over $50 is going to be a worthwhile piece of equipment. Great video bud

    I had a CC80 for about 10 months. I really enjoyed how it felt but it definitely started to feel worn out by the end. I replaced that with another CC80 through a protection plan from Dicks and had it for about two weeks before it blew out of the back of my truck on the turnpike. Now I am trying to decide if I am going to replace that with the CR80 (I can get it for $45) or the Fuego CT (which I can get for about $65). I really liked how the C series felt in my hand, but I would also have more peace of mind with the longevity of the aluminum frame/body that comes with the Fuego. What should I do?

    I have the Tatula, speed spool and CC80. For the money the CC 80 is a great reel. Smooth and reliable (so far). I like the Tatula best over all but that’s a 129-149 reel. I don’t like the tiny drag wheel on the Tatula especially when flipping docs. That is the only draw back. I have also been using the speed spool carbon fire for 2 years. I’ve had great performance out of it for a 70 dollar reel. The reason I am bought the CC is because of the similarities to the speed spool. I’ll bet they are both made in the same factory in China. I’ll let you know how it performs over the next couple months. BTW Good video. 👍🏻

    Just curious, I picked up a used CG80 in a horsetrading deal, it's in good shape and spins/reels smoothly. I'm a big Daiwa guy, and the Fuego CT is my go-to - I think I have 8 of them. I can't find a teardown/owners manual for this reel, but the brake dial on this one acts weird. It starts off pointed to "Free" and as you get it clicked around toward "Max" , at about the 5/8ths mark on the dial, there is an audible click, and if you do it with the side plate off, it is the magnet plate, dropping back down about half of the distance it just traveled inward. After this click, you can't dial back toward "free". You can continue toward "max" another 6-7 clicks and the magnets do continue moving outward - toward the spool, and then you hit the end of the clicks. You can't make the dial go backwards toward free at all. Once you hit "Max" then your only option is to continue past "Max" and when you get to "free" everything resets. I've been inside lots of reels, and tearing this one down, everything looks correct, and properly aligned. No broken parts. Surely this isn't proper operation for this reel. Any ideas?

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад

    Hey. Great Video, review and commentary. If you still have the reels or the info, I have a question. Can you tell me what the weight of the spool is for the CG80 and the Fuego?
    I fish inshore saltwater, have the Lew's Speed Spool LFS Inshore, and have used it for two years. Great reel. The LFS Inshore is like the LFS but better drainage and slightly more drag.
    I'm considering a new baitcaster that could be used in Saltwater with a four piece travel rod. I can still get the LFS Inshore, tho they have been discontinued, but I would like to look for an alternate reel that would be better with ultralight baits like flukes and small, light bonefish style jigs.
    So, specifically, my LFS Inshore (fully spooled with 30# Power Pro) weighs 26 grams.
    Not sure if I want a carbon/resin model, but would be interested in knowing the weight of their spools.
    Thanks. And thanks for a great informative video!

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад +1

      Hey man, thanks for watching. I would not use this as a saltwater reel. As harsh as that stuff is I would definitely go to a baitcaster that is specifically made for the salt. The Lew's inshore is still available on tackle Warehouse. I know daiwa has a coastal reel that is built for salt too. Those are both around $200 dollars.

    • @BillDeWeese

      As an update, I might have a line on a Shimano Citica I. It has a bare spool weight of 16.5g and I despooled the Lew's LFS Inshore and it's bare spool is 20g. The Citica might be a good option for Flukes and Paddletails. If you can recommend any others specific to that application, I'll take any recommendations. Thanks!

    • @BillDeWeese

      And yes, I can pretty easily get the LFS Inshore again. They seemed to have pulled them when Lew's added the Custom Inshore reel as it's replacement, but now you can find them here and there. At 99$ look at the daiwa BG a spinning reel....and how that platform has 250$ variants...then look at this OEM made plastic baitcasting reel for the same price....then wait a few weeks for when that same 99$ daiwa bg jumps up to 120$ and see where this reels price goes.......And look at all the JDM daiwa's being sold stateside......They're being sold stateside because they didn't sell in japan.....(from the horses mouth) So these OEM reels in my eyes are $ margin reels. Daiwa offered OEM reels in the past....but nothing i recall in the modern mainstream

I understand what you mean about the $ margin reels and JDM selling. I often wonder if it's like the theater popcorn marketing. Theatres never intend to sell small or medium. The price is all based on the large size for profit. If you order a medium, they will upsell for $1 more to a large and there is a distinct size difference. Of course I'll buy the large. Wonder if these are a way to promote the fuego or potential new reel slightly over $100? Interesting to think about.

      We have had reels in the past that we have designed and engineered ourselves, but did not manufacture in order to hit a price point. The 80’s (CR, CG, CC) fall into this category. These reels were designed and engineered by Daiwa, but were not manufactured by us to allow us to offer a quality reel and still keep it at a reasonable price point.

      @@TackleAdvisors I like that you give that into. I see both sides. Makes sense from a business standpoint. At the same time, you want that "built in house" quality when you see their symbol. I don't know how strict the quality/oversight is when a reel is outsourced. I feel like it also depends on the company's service. If they hold a high standard of quality for what the product is AND take care of anyone who has an issue, I feel better about it. A company like Lew's has their reels manufactured by Doyo I believe. I've had great luck with their reels. I've heard their customer service is top notch (never personally had to deal with them). I see this a lot in my day job and understand the importance of a company following their word and taking care of the consumer. Great getting the opportunity to talk to you. Binged on your vids but didn't want to comment as a small RUclipsr.

      upstate NY basser 10586 yeah. My guess is that daiwa made this deal with doyo to make them this reel so that they could compete with the palming size and the pricepoint of the shimano SLX. So this is a reel made for younger people. But the fuego is so much better qualitywise. I would never recommend this doyowa over the real daiwa. The Fuego is just so much better. In the future I hope to see daiwa making ALL their reels in THEIR OWN factorys.

    I want to know about the Abu Garcia baitcasters like black max, silver Max, Promax the lower end Garcia's. I see that you mentioned which of those reels we're good for jig fishing and spinnerbaits and stuff like that wearing them out the gears or such the most expensive Garcia I have is a Revo X I throwing a lot of jigs and chatterbaits spinners and buzzbaits with those lower-end Garcia's is that bad on them thank you for your knowledge on these items because if I have to up my budget on the Garcias are will I haven't had no issues after a year of use and I fish all the time are they still hold up now I'm just babbling LOL thank you bro

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 лет назад +1

      No, I completely understand what you mean. I've used a black max and they work. No fancy frills and not terribly refined but they get the job done. I have a promax and beat it up, still works. I just didn't throw really heavy baits with it. Those reels will certainly get the job done!

      @@herb1166 I would definitely throw those on your Revo X over those other abu reels. Use your standard 1/4 or 3/8 oz baits on those.

    I haven’t even watched the vid yet but I do know a lot about this reel and most other reels out there right now. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS REEL is that Daiwa makes two $99 reels, this cg80 and the fuego. The Fuego is better than this reel in every way- better brakes, bearing, feel, durability, the fuego is an older model than this but literally has newer generation technology. If he didn’t mention any of this than he made a pointless video.

      I think you should probably watch the vid, you nailed some important points! I'll have a review of the Fuego up soon. Thanks for watching man!

      DEBO'S Fishing I saved it to etch after work I just had to leave a comment first because I’ve been telling a lot of people who buy the cg80 lately that daiwa literally only has it released to see if the market is going more for cosmetics or quality. Next season they are going to redo the lineup based on which reel outsells. Buying the cg80 is asking daiwa to make worse reels for a higher price with a nice paint job

      DEBO'S Fishing I’ll like the video and finish watching it tonight but to answer your statement at the beginning of the video, you may already know my answer but the fuego is the best $100 on the market. I have Tatulas and it’s so close to being the same thing as a Tatula I almost regret spending the extra money

      @@colewhitehead999 I appreciate you supporting my channel man! Yea, I figured you were a fuego fan. I can see why, it's a solid reel. There are a lot of solid options at $99. IMO, they have to include an aluminum frame. That's the main thing that prohibits the CG80 from being a top contender at $99 for me.
