@@RealisticFishing I have an old black bantam that I swapped the handle with a chronarch handle. I matched it with an American all star rod. Great combo.
I'm 55 and I remember when the game changer came out. Even working at Boeing and making good money it was more than what I wanted to spend on a reel. My son has one now and it's like new. I wish I would have bought one now.
You will love that reel. I can't say it is my favorite anymore but I have 3 that my wife bought me over 25 years ago before we were married. They have been heavily used and I still use them today. Most durable reel I've ever owned by far. That's why I love a Shimano. They just last and last. Great video. Really fun to see someone else use one
I found a Shimano Bantam Crestfire cr-200b at a Goodwill for $6, opened it up, everything looked new and Clean, added grease and it's a crazy fun reel to use once in a blue moon
I've got the even older maroon Allstars and still use them because I'm an old fart. I've probably caught more bass on my WR2 than any other rod in my arsenal. I bought an old Shimano Scorpion Metanium 3 weeks ago and it's smooth as butter and cast as far or farther as my newer reels
Boca bearings has bearing kits for that reel starting at about $27 to $54. I put a set of their $27 dollar bearings in a Black Max & that more than doubled my casting distance. Worth a try.
I just found one of these in my shed. Was going to throw it away until I saw Curado on the side. I have several new Curado’s and love them. Now I just need to learn how take it apart and clean it up.
Its alot simpler than it seems, I definitely encourage you to get an upgrade kit for about 30 bucks that comes with spool bearings and carbon fiber drag washers and just go ahead and take it apart and clean it, you would be very pleased
One thing I learned, buy bearings by size not by usage. When I looked for bearings for my Shimano Bantam CI -200B, they where like $15 for steel and $25 for ceramic. When I looked for the bearings by 3x10x4mm found a 10 pack for $8(steel) and $15 for ceramic. This reel has 2 bearings. One for the spool and one roller bearing for the crank. It has the 6 pin centrifugal brakes that I love over my Daiwa magnetic. I got it at a yard sale paired to a Shimano Clarus (CSS-70M) spinning reel rod for $8. Pretty sweet deal. Had frozen bearing on the spool but I cleaned it, soaking it in wd40, drying, and adding a drop of reel oil to it. It cast good. Has plastic bushing on the opposite side of the spool, will be replaced with a bearing just to try it out😂
A good reel indeed sir. My dad swore by his back in the day. Pretty sure he still uses it plenty too. The shad sure seem stacked in there bro. Crazy you didn't see any lunkers trying to feed on them. Awesome vid homie!!!
Fished with my father in laws the other weekend. Now I’m on the hunt for a used one to build back up to fish with. Great reels. I’d put it against my lews tournament pro.
Sitting here in Maine during a single digit temp stretch it's nice to see you fishing in some warm (?) weather. I really don't care what you're catching, I get to see fish being caught. Love to see the older stuff being used, makes one wonder if today's are really that much better. Keep em coming can't wait to get back out there.

Definitely a nice classic reel for sure. It will be interesting to see if new bearings and a little grease makes it as good as new. Thanks for sharing.
I have the same one and love it but it’s now in my trophy case. A plastic washer/spacer blew out inside of it and it has an issue when I cast it. Sent it back to Shimano to see if they could fix it but they don’t service the old reels. They gave me a list of authorized service shops that might be able to repair it but I just decided to keep it in the trophy case. I purchased a used 2012 Antares DC from Japan and it’s an awesome reel!
Interesting you posted this. My grandfather gave me 4 reels last week and 2 of them were these. I have one of them all cleaned up with fresh grease and oil. Planning on playing with them this weekend.
Shimano makes terrific products, I must admit my best reel in the world predates Shimano but so do I so I guess it's ok. The Mitchell 300. Heavy, limited capacity, slow retrieve and the best the world had to offer. Ahh memories. Can't wait till we change those bearings. Thanks Alex.

I used to have one of those reels up until some POS broke into my garage and stole about 90% of my fishing stuff including my entire tackle box loaded with tackle from the 1990's and 2000's.
Most noise from those comes from dry or nasty brake blocks on the ring. Clean that brass ring around the brakes and oil it with an oiled q tip. Touch the ends of the brake tabs with the oiled q tip also. Try that before bearings.
I just bought one of these reels.. wish I had paid a little less.. just knew Curado was the name to have, didn't know it was that old. Did you ever make a video switching out the bearings? And any idea where I could find some?
I have an old Curado 200E7. Bought it brand new years ago and it by far is my best baitcaster. Outperforms Quantum PT reels from their heyday with ease. On the market for a 200E5 for deep cranking. Also love the old VBS braking system, no idea why Shimano went away from it

its crazy but i went to my tackle shop awhile ago and i was like do you have any used baitcasting reels.. never had one.. and this is what they had and hes like dude its pristine. i always shop there for most my baits so he hooked it up for cheap and man its a nice reel. whoever had it before me barely used it. but ya it can bomb them out there for even a old reel and it was cheap compared to the new high end models. i put miles on it on the banks so its all scratched up now but it still casts super far as long as line is full and still smooth i havent cleaned it yet. i put a solid year in with it. then broke the pole that i still need to replace. but ya its solid. nice vid. the way i get the long bombs is swing the bait one time around the pole and then swing similar to a baseball bat and it goes so far.. i wish i could cast my spinning the same distance.
Nice reel, my only experience with anything curado-ish, is my Shimano Scorpion BFS xg '17. The frame is basically a curado 70 frame, with a special type of magnetic break, and the reel is meant for fishing UL lures, as it has an extremely light shallow spool. It's from the Japanese domestic market.
@@RealisticFishing Absolutely! I love that reel. It's so smooth, solid, light, and the reel is a bit small compared to a lot of other bait casting reels. It fits in really nice, paired with a cheap shakespeare micro series 4'6" UL spincast rod, or something more expensive, in UL,L, or ML . It's almost like I've been in a love affair with the reel ever since I got i last year. It's one of the reels I seem to always grab when I head out fishing. I really need to give some of my other reels some time. Right now I have the Scorpion BFS on a micro series 2 piece 5'6" Light action spincast rod. Landed my first bass of the year, on it, as well as 2 chain pickerel. The light action rod has a bit more backbone power ideal for fishing soft plastics. I'll throw a 1/8 oz shakey head on it sometimes.
I still have 3 of the Curado 200e7 and a Curado 200e5 and I keep them cleaned and added ceramic bearings to the 200e5 and use it on my Zara Spook Rod 😜🎯
you got your self great reel........it might be old but those shimano curado last forever.....that ´s all I fish, shimano reels and they have never let me down.....i personally have a few old curados , all made in japan and still running great.....give it a little lub or if you want to go fancy get some Boca Bearings they sure carry a huge variety of bearings that will make your curado very silent and add extra casting distance.....best regards and congrats on your channel
I have an old Shimano Bantum from the 80s.... that real is SILENT and smooth, but no magnetics. I also have a an old Shimano B200 that I bought new way back when, that reel was noisy right out of the box. I changed the bearings in the B200 twice, it was just a loud reel.
Those bearings are fairly affordable and easy to change I have a set of ceramic bearings to go in a Curado. Any classic reel loves a little oil on the bearings.
I'm a 19 yr old and all I ever use is a CU-200BSF I've got 6 of em and they're just as hood as any of the modern ones if you know how to use em and keep em nice.
That is and always will be a hell of a sexy reel! 1996 if im correct. This video made my day! Thank you very much! Japan made and nothing fancy.. just one mean green machine!!
That was the first baitcaster I bought in 2003 when I got into bass fishing, but I had to sell it when they came out with the CuradoE7. =) I had to sell the old to buy the new.
Looked like it color matched the rod! I wouldnt use it with a different rod. By the way if u get ceramic bearings ( u can get cheap chinese on ebay ) those are loud also, because they run dry by design. Honestly i think the reel is nice as it is. I would just clean the bearings with solvent and oil them and put them back and call it a day.
You got a deal on that lol they're 120$ on ebay. I definitely put a newer curado against anything under 200$ my buddy even fished my slx and said he prefered the slx over his 200$ Lew's reel. I've fished everything too man and shimano sets the bar pretty high
Agreed! Little love with soms oil, grease, and bearings and it'll be good to go. Cool to see old gear like that brought back to life!
I cant wait to see what I can do with it 👍

I still have 3 of the Curado 200e7 and a Curado 200e5 and I keep them cleaned and added ceramic bearings to the 200e5 and use it on my
Zara Spook Rod 😜🎯
you got your self great reel........it might be old but those shimano curado last forever.....that ´s all I fish, shimano reels and they have never let me down.....i personally have a few old curados , all made in japan and still running great.....give it a little lub or if you want to go fancy get some Boca Bearings they sure carry a huge variety of bearings that will make your curado very silent and add extra casting distance.....best regards and congrats on your channel
I have an old Shimano Bantum from the 80s.... that real is SILENT and smooth, but no magnetics. I also have a an old Shimano B200 that I bought new way back when, that reel was noisy right out of the box. I changed the bearings in the B200 twice, it was just a loud reel.
I can deal with loud if I have to. I am just happy to have one 👍
@@RealisticFishing it's not like the fish can hear it.... or can they? 🤔
Been trying to buy a restored green curado off my friend for years but he wont sell me one! He loves them!
The trusty ol rattle trap ,always carry a few on me
Those first two shad were pretty big! 👊🏻
I was hoping for some big bass. Not this time
Found mine at a swap meet. Bought the pole and reel combo for $20.
Thats a good deal
That reel is bombproof. Still less bearing noise than a brand new 13 fishing or Kastking 🤣
😅
Great video as always. Love the reel. Nice fishing spot.
Those bearings are fairly affordable and easy to change I have a set of ceramic bearings to go in a Curado. Any classic reel loves a little oil on the bearings.
King kast speed demon highest retrieve on the market i got one and absolutely love it
I had a bantam a long time ago great reel
I'm a 19 yr old and all I ever use is a CU-200BSF I've got 6 of em and they're just as hood as any of the modern ones if you know how to use em and keep em nice.
"Getting a feel for the reel "copyright that dude
That is and always will be a hell of a sexy reel!
1996 if im correct.
This video made my day!
Thank you very much!
Japan made and nothing fancy.. just one mean green machine!!
Damn there a lot of bait fish in there. Did they just move closer to shore because of the high water?
They are all over in those back bays 👍
another great vid
👍👍
That was the first baitcaster I bought in 2003 when I got into bass fishing, but I had to sell it when they came out with the CuradoE7. =) I had to sell the old to buy the new.
Because of this video, i actually got the shimano curado the old one from this video, especially for 120 dollars
Already got new ones on order 😅
now u steppin on a dangerous slope : ) There is always a way to make a reel better : )
Mine screams even louder do new bearings help??
Love the reel , great video 👍
👍
You got a deal on that lol they're 120$ on ebay. I definitely put a newer curado against anything under 200$ my buddy even fished my slx and said he prefered the slx over his 200$ Lew's reel. I've fished everything too man and shimano sets the bar pretty high
We will have to see how it turns out
Nice catches. Little weeny one at the end there lol. Great review of the reel🦉
Man we’re overrun with shad here in West Texas too.
Defiantly more affordable than a new curado bantam MGL! Lol.
Keep up the great work,Alex!
Boy there were lots of shad. Least you caught some fish to test out the reel 😎🎣
great reel you should have fun with it may need a little tlc nothing like a curado a true gem
I finally have one for myself 👍
Fishing flea market at the fire company coming up soon. I will have to look for one of those
