    OMG yes they finally did it! Thanks for your review I would do anything to review this too, love the fact it's a total PC meaning no more wires and deciding what projects to work on with different screens. I use a wacom intuos instead of a mouse making a huion troublesome when used together, this is the solution to my problems. Seamless :)

    This model is really cool, but i definitely want to see the 16 inch model review, as if i were to get one it would probably be that one. I already have my 22 inch tablet for my main PC, and honestly i've been thinking of getting a 16 inch model for PC too as it's way more convenient for switching back and forth between art mode and everything else mode lol

    I needed a good replacement for my old Wacom Studio and got this. The pen display was very good but it had a hardware malfunction within months of getting it and started repeatedly freezing. Talking to their customer service about it was infuriating because it was a song and dance of, "It's freezing as soon as it's turning on." "Can you open this program and try this?" "IT'S FREEZING AS SOON AS IT TURNS ON?! No I can't!"
    So it is cheaper than wacom, but at this point it's cost me 600 more than the asking price because I had to take it to a computer repair shop.

    Remember when Wacom dropped the first Cintiq Companion that came with an outdated processor, integrated graphics, required a keyboard and mouse to be purchased separately, and all the launch day units had faulty power ports that stopped charging after a couple of months? The funny part was the speaker being put next to the fan so if you used it while the fan kicked into high gear, you'd sound like a splatoon character. If this Huion doesn't have any of these problems, it was probably designed by someone who regrettably purchased a first-gen Cintiq Companion.

    I'm debating between this model and the 16 inch. Honestly the main reason this one looks appealing is the specs. 32GB Ram & 1TB SSD means way more flexibility in image sizes and layers you can use before it starts to struggle. That's pretty important, but the 16 is far more portable... tough choice.

    • @STFUppercut69
      @STFUppercut69 9 месяцев назад

      There is no "portable" when it comes to these devices. I have a 13 inch Macbook Air and a 16 inch Macbook Pro and the 16 inch Macbook already feels significantly heavier after carrying it around for an hour over the shoulder. And that's just a Macbook which is light compared to this chunker unit of a device.
      Always get the bigger one when it comes to screen tablets. A big surface area is great and even more important when Photoshop already starts eating away 20% of your screen - or even more depending on how you set up your painting software UI.

  • @artbybenjamin

    It's an interesting device, but it somehow looks really outdated and not well designed. No Thunderbolt Port or at least USB-C in 2023? A 4 year old graphics card? 220 Nits only and speakers on the back? Those are all red flags for me, especially when this device costs €2799 over here. I'm looking forward to your Kamvas Studio 16 review, but I already know it has even worse red flags and I've decided to not get it, even though I was initially very excited about it. Knowing that's €2299 over here and has really old cpu in it and a huge lack of ports, no micro-sd slot and more missing, made me decide to look elsewhere and get something more updated for less money. But.. still looking forward to that review and as always, this was a good one.

    TPM is a security chip on the board that is required for Windows 11. Some boards have a virtualized version of TPM that can be toggled in BIOS. Without an active TPM on the board Windows 11 will not activate. I banged my head on this for quite some time as I tried to build my last workstation PC... a major major headache as I was trying to get TPM and Thunderbolt all on the same board. Seems like it should be a no-brainer, but it was not!

    when keys don't work and they have to remote to your computer to "activate windows" it means they possibly cracked it for you (which isn't hard tbh and not much of a problem anyway), a windows license should be OEM for all portable computers that's kind of the minimum requirement

    Thank you so much for your review. I was actually waiting for it!!! ❤️... To be honest my personal opinion about this device is a bit strong. The windows issue is not acceptable at all and Huion should apologize for it and make sure it will never happen again. The device is a bit too clumsy and bulky and the specs could be better(especially the outdated CPU) ... In addition the concept of a standalone device is the portability... Here we are stucked with acceptable specs linked to a monitor a bit hard to move and not 4k. Maybe I'm wrong but with the same amount of money we can get a 4k kamvas pro 24 + a very good workstation... The mobile 16" could make more sense because you can travel with it accepting the limit of a portable device. I'm also a bit concern because I do not see many reviews about these devices and it means people were not entirely intrigued 😅 I cannot wait to watch your review!!! I trust you so much because I know you are super honest and passionate about your job and a great artist. 🥰

    Hey Brad! (and other viewers!) I'm not sure how familiar all of you are with computers, but judging by the size, ventilation, and especially the placement of the ports, this DEFINITELY appears to be the *desktop* version of the GTX 1650. It's a few levels above the laptop/mobile variant, and quiet humming of the cooling is due to the GPU having its own fans. It was probably cheaper for Huion to go with bulky build and an "ol reliable" GPU they can get for cheap

    • @joechapman8208
      @joechapman8208 Год назад +3

      "A few levels above" is massively overstating it. You're making it sound like the desktop 1650 is some kind of secret monster, and it's not. Mobile-to-desktop GPU comparisons are generally in the order of one product step, and in this case it's much tighter than that. There are some 3D Mark tests where the desktop model outperforms the mobile one by a significant percentage, but equally there are other tests where the mobile product marginally beats the desktop one. And in all cases, it's kind of meaningless to say, "Test X shows Card A beating Card B by [x]%" if that's [x]% of an already poor performance equating to maybe +/-3 fps. Both are fine for digital painting and should be for a good few years to come, but for gaming, you're not going to see a difference in fps between them and they're barely okay for light gaming today. As for 3D work in Blender or UE5, they're not suitable at all.

    It just doesn't make sense to me at $2400. You could have a Kamvas Pro 24 4K for about $1200 and get, say, an Alienware X14 laptop with the remaining $1200 (or something even better for a little more outlay). You'd have a much higher res pen display, a laptop with better graphics capability: a two-screen set-up. When you get a new computer in the future, the pen display comes with you and becomes even better with each new computer it's plugged into, whereas the Studio 24 is frozen in time with its "okay for now" GPU.

    • @JupiKitten

    • @joechapman8208
      @joechapman8208 Год назад

      @@JupiKitten That, too! But not just in more powerful all-in-ones: I'd be concerned about improvements in screen tech too, which is why I'd always want a computer-less pen display. Huion have been a bit cheeky recently, marketing QLED screens which don't do what customers expect quantum dot monitors to do (you expect inky blacks on a per-pixel dimming panel, but what you get is an albeit excellent but still full backlit IPS), but sooner or later we will have true QLEDs, OLEDs and miniLEDs to choose from. Wouldn't want to be saddled with a unit that outdated in CPU, GPU *and* the screen.

    This thing has the same problem Wacom had when they built giant tablet PCs. In a year or five that screen will still be fine, but something in the computer will have died or you'll want to upgrade and then you're stuffed. For the $2400 this costs you're better off buying the standalone screen and spending $1000 on a separate computer (or laptop). It's the same functionality but in a few years time you will only replace/upgrade the computer, not the whole unit. It's 9kg so you're not taking this thing out and about, it will live in the office. The 16 inch model looks way more viable in that regard, 3-ish kg still isn't light but you can carry that in a backpack between the office/school and home.

I was eyeing up a 4k display but I use a Mac and Macs don't play very nice with 4k resolutions... plus I saved a lot of money in the decision. Concerning the form factor of this thing, I think I prefer the typical display tablet setting - the bulk of the computer part makes it tricky to attach to an Ergotron-type arm as I do with mine I think. The Kamvas Studio 16 has an iGPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics, which has terrible 3D performance. It's rated 985% slower (not a typo - UserBenchmark site) than the fastest GPUs. If you need portability and need Blender, a laptop with a discrete GPU is a much better choice.

    Sooo.., it's a smaller Dell Canvas with a laptop built in. I have the same kit essentially, paid half the price and arrived 5 years ahead of Huion.

      Yes but the Canvas had a huge screen and the resolution wasn't great at 27 inches. Anyhow - I thought you gave up comics and were going into video about a year ago? (I used to be on the same forum but some people really REALLY irritated me there)
      I looked at the Galaxy Book Pro 360 but I now want a nice big screen again and 24 inches is the size for me.

    • @MarkOakleyComics
      @MarkOakleyComics Год назад +1

      @@fablewalls Gave up comics?? Heavens, no!
      Video is just a way to satisfy the tech itch and keep my nose in the media game. Comics are in my blood at this point.
      The Dell's screen resolution is actually quite nice at 27". -Certainly not on the same level as many of the newer tablets where the pixels are too small to be seen, but you have to lean in and squint to see them on the Dell. -And we have to remember, artists got along happily enough on the old Cintiq 21s at much lower pixel density.
      20+ inches (at least) for a main drawing board is important for visual artists, so I think you're making a wise decision. My little 15" portable is fine for lots of work, but there are certain composition elements which you only really notice when you can stand back and look from a few feet away. I'm often surprised at what I've missed until I look at a piece of work at a proper full size.

    Hmm the Windows activation issue is a bit sus, a bit like they are buying dodgy keys. To be fair it looks like it's running Windows 11 which doesn't always play nice with all hardware, but if the hardware doesn't meet the requirements for Windows 11 it should just ship with 10.

    Now the question is how long does this last, WacomMObile studios only last between 1-4years before they break. I'm not familiar with this brand(not wacom), and ppl say its Chinese so I presume the quality must not be that great... I wonder if they have smaller options like 16inches or something, anything above 20ich too much from my experience.
    Anway seems to have twice the PC power, bigger screen and storage for a cheaper price(2700€) when compared to Wacoms Mobile Studio 16(3600€), thats at least.

    Sounds like a really interesting product. Fortunately they went with the much more powerful 12th gen Intel CPU instead of 11th gen. Maybe the only gripe would be the slightly underwhelming graphics card, but it´s still considerably better than Intel Iris graphics. The performance should be similar to the Nvidia RTX 3050ti.
    I´m really looking forward to the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 though, whose introduction should happen in 1 or 2 months. The leaked specs are mouth watering, the associated price tag should therefore be eye watering....

      @@Kenb3d1 Generally Wacom is still that little bit extra quality - yes they produced some howlers and they are over priced but I always remember that Huion started with making cheap graphic tablets and here they are 5-6 years later with a serious 1st entry into the all in one market.
      I applaud them - if you want cheap and cheerful - there's always the Ugee and Yiynova type brands where once the pen breaks, you might as well chuck the tablet away because there are no spares available.
