HM IoH is one of my favorite series, I don't understand why people dislike it so much. I like the gameplay, I like the instrument, characters and many more. The only thing that I don't like is the festival, most of the festivals are just competiting your products and it's boring.
damn same. the cowboy male is handsome (back then) my favorite HM game played like several time (i already have kid with him, then restart again and again)
This one happens to be one of my favourites actually. mainly because the characters personalitys were better portrayed in this one then in Sunshine Islands. it's remake. and I actually liked the controls, and using the touch screen more. c: and some things were easier in this version, such as farming and cooking.
DarkMirria1 same! I got rlly far in it and then moi cartridge broke ;o; I had a babbeh in it and everything and I had 10million gold ;-; not to brag tho but ISH ALL GONE CUZ CARTRIDGE BROKE >:o I had island of happiness since I was 7
I know this is a really old video, but I feel this needs to be said. No, this game does not have perfect controls. But if you give it a fair chance, its very easy to get used to them. Walking vs running depends on the distance between the character and where you tap. You are meant to use it for directional movement, more "run this way" than "run to this spot". You can also use... I believe R to just run in the direction you're facing, letting you tap to change directions. And you don't need to stand in the perfect spot, if you go too far getting used to the controls then just work with it, you don't need to be right next to a square to water or till it. As for inventory, it doesn't usually automatically stack because of the different item stats. Most are visible when selecting the item, but the game keeps more information you don't see. So most of the time, it is a slightly different version of the same item. Not always useful, but when it comes to bigger differences, usually more noticeable later on than so early in the game, it is very helpful because once an item stacks, the quality value averages to the lowest in the stack. So if you stack A rank indigo grass with B rank indigo grass, you'll get two B rank indigo grass. That's even more useful with the freshness value, as that will quickly lower the quality as you hold it. It lets you hold two versions of the same item, a low quality for cooking and eating and a high quality for selling, instead of automatically combining them into multiple low quality items. Again, much more useful later on. As for using items, I'm not sure if you're doing this already, but you can just use the D-pad or ABXY (lets you swap for right hand vs left hand players). You also have two buttons in your inventory for disposing of and eating items, you don't need to equip and use them or throw them. And if you get the hang of it, you can throw items into the shipping bin, skipping the popup. As for game/story speed, all Harvest Moon games are pretty slow at first, quickly using up stamina and getting low profits. But like any other, as you ship things and complete hidden tasks, more characters will appear. For example, I believe you need to make use of the axe and hammer for the carpenter to appear, and he will open a whole new area for you right away. Then, shipping enough crops, shilling dishes, shipping enough fish, all of those will start bringing in even more characters. The carpenter can also be paid to slowly expand the map further, unlocking festivals, a forest and a jungle each with even more characters, and the mine. It gives you a few days to get used to the controls and grow your first batch of crops, then things begin unlocking at a steady pace dependent on your progress and skill. And just like any Harvest Moon game, those first few crops are going to take most of your energy and time and might even require not using all of your seeds at once or ending days early to speed through. Unless you've played it enough to know it all already, you always need to plan out your time. Personally, I focus the first few days becoming friends with Taro to quickly get the fishing rod, then stock up on fish for food and easy money, using extra time to restock, until I'm able to either get to the forest or get some Wonderfuls. Seaweed is also great for food your first season. Some guides suggest selling your turnip seeds to start with potatoes for early profit, or just sell everything. So while the game isn't perfect, the only real annoyance is getting a hang of the controls, the rest is typical of Harvest Moon games. And most of the issues are just people not bothering to give it a chance. Its not the best HM game, but its far better than people claim
The control system for this game works out reasonably well when playing it via emulation due to mouse control, kind of a shame it didn't work so well for the actual DS system though.
I mean I understand where he's coming from but I love this game and the controls are completely fine if you play on 3ds you don't even need to use the stylus because you have the thumb stick and also you can eat and through away directly from the rucksack so those complaints from him are just bcs he's bad at the game
I don't know if there is any diference betwen the two but I played this game on the DSi and I don't haved any problem with controls, maybe a bit sometimes but not something that would ruin my gameplay, like, I avoided somethings, instead of trying to water a 3x3 square I goed watering a line and then coming back, but like I said, I don't haved problems with controls, although I have came far in the game, I didn't finished it because I was addicted to harvest moon ds XD, but I really liked the "mechanic" of developing the island, and sunshine islands get me a little down because a lot of things on the island came already "fixed" so there is no the "satisfaction" on fixing it
I tried so damn hard to like this game. They needed a win after the Harvest Moon DS fiasco. I thought "there's no way they're going to screw up two games in a row!" I actually got my money back on this one from Gamestop, it was so bad.
its super easy to get animals. by the end of spring your crops and herbs you sell will have got you more than enough money to buy a animal barn and 100 fodder to feed the calf taro gives you after the barn is built.
Personally, the farming system in Sunshine Islands was very annoying and silly. I mean, crops needed a certain amount of Water Points and Sun Points to grow or it would die. You needed to keep track of how many points in each crop. That drove me crazy, although it was my first Harvest Moon game. Everything else was good,
If you want to play normally, yes. But its very easy to manipulate the game when getting them as rewards, like when winning a festival. Can't remember the exact pattern, but if you save before you receive it (eg. Before entering the festival if you know you can win), you can use tools a few times and it will cycle through them in a specific order, letting you just reload and try again to get whichever you want. The ones for sale in winter have a similar pattern, but you can't manipulate it as easily, it only allows you to plan ahead for saving and spending money
played it for 5 min after the introduction. i had to stop because the controls are just god awful. how can people say it is better this way? if you want to know what good controls are, play "Rune Factory 4" for me it is unplayable because of the controls.

can someone please tell me how to get a fishing pole wheat and rice please-??? gems as well
You get a fishing pole by getting 2000 with Taro. It’s really easy, if you can get him something he likes everyday you can do it in at least 10 days.
I meant 2000 friendship points.
@@basketman2517 thank you-!!!
This was the first time i ever played Harvest Moon. The nostalgia, though.
