+Carly Gill Save the Homeland was a good enough game. Wish they'd added the ability to continue after the first year with the storyline done, allowing marraige/kids, etc. Then it would have been great.
+Seiko Shinohara Hero of leaf valley didn't let you have children I rather have all Harvest Harvest Moon games where you can have children. Those are better 😍
+amanogirl1 I love Hero of Leaf Valley. The characters are very much developed and the story is incredible. You just sucked into saving the town so easily.
+Carissa Ferguson Yeah I came to the comments to say this. I doubt he will change his opinion, though, I still play HM:DS in my free time over all the others. Maybe its nostalgia, but I just feel like I can have so much freedom in this one compared to all the others.
+Eva Wilson To be honest, I think Harvest moon DS Grand Bazaar would have deserved the fourth spot more than HMDS. Maybe HMDS had a few glitches, but at least it was interesting. Grand Bazaar seems much more boring in comparison: you didn't have much to do, there were no particularly interesting NPC and the map seemed way too small.
@@pamelaarief4227 Assuming the game isn't glitching your animals out of existence, like your dog. That and the data corruption issue put me off DS completely.
Am i the only one who truly love Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life? The game pace may be slow, but i really like how everything in the game is slowly progressing year by year and some other little details in the game.
i can understand that! i just dislike the game because it feels bleak with all those dull colors and sad events w/death. kinda takes away the laid back and happy pace that most harvest moon games have
No, you are obviously not as it is one of the top voted games in the series by fans. AWL is literally one of Thomal's top five Harvest Moon games as well. So no, you are not the only one. You may be confused by this video including A Wonderful Life: SPECIAL EDITION. It is specifically the Special Edition on PS2 that was horrible. Not the original A Wonderful Life/Another Wonderful Life.
@@NaraKwonPoD Personally, I like the special edition rather than the original one. Obviously It's because of the new feature that does not exist in the original one. And about the laggy and delay part of this game, if i think about it again, i like and dislike it at the same time. What i like is the time is run slower. Because of this, i can make a plan about what i need to do while doing something (like watering my crops). I know if we press the start button or choosing an item the time will stop, but i just don't want to do that lol. And for what i dislike is really obvious (because it's laggy lol)
TheLuckyNerd I don't even...How in the living hell does a game glitch out the MAIN thing it was supposed to do...god, I keep reading his comment again and again and each time I laugh harder than I did before xD
Farah Elshami The freaky thing was that if I pressed the a button in front of a shop counter I could still buy things. There obviously wasn't anyone there, but I could buy stuff from them.
There's a glitch that makes it where you will never be able to enter anything into a food contest... And there's no way to really avoid it, it just happens and it stays like that. The game is also prone to crashing and there are some other glitches that either brake the game or just end up being creepy. Like played Harvest Moon DS a lot despite it being a bug filled mess.
The Cute version fixed most of the bugs. So if you played the Cute version, then it's a good game from what I've read. Unfortunately, if you're a guy, then playing that fixed version in order to enjoy the experience also means having to play as a girl and marry a guy.
I see a LOT of similar comments here. I'm assuming you played the "Cute" version? If so, that would explain it. What you have to understand is that the Cute version fixed most of the bugs. So yes, the game is actually good if you're playing that version. The original version of the game had a *LOT* of really, really bad bugs though, and that's what makes it so bad.
Harvest Moon DS was such a mess. I remember having to sell your animals once they got old, because when they died of old age, your friendship points with everyone in the village would drop.
Honestly, Lost Valley is a pretty good game if you get past all the quests that are nearly impossible at times and once you restore all the seasons its quite easier. Thats just my opinion but hey, i've been playing it for a while now and i've grown slightly attached.
@Calebe Souza did you play as a kid or as an adult? it was my #1 childhood game, i have a file in ds cute thats 11 years in, the furthest ive ever gotten in an HM game. i love it
Hehe I loved Harvest Moon DS but fuck I remember it being so hard to get all the sprites back >.< You had to find so many if you wanted to marry someone in the game!
WHAT? HARVEST MOON DS WAS THE FIRST HARVEST MOON THAT I EVER PLAYED AND THATS HOW I GOT TO KNOW HARVEST MOON AND FALL IN LOVE WITH and omg, harvest moon island of happiness is the first one that i actually finished. yeah at the beginning, it's really hard but you made the "eating action" way too long. you can just pick the item that you want to eat go in your backpack and either select it and then click on the 🍴 symbol or take the item and drag it to the 🍴 symbol. it's not that long.
I never once noticed glitches in Harvest Moon DS-- and I restarted my game twice after accidentally saving over the wrong save file by habit while looking at my sisters save file (I literally wanted to cry). It's definitely my favorite of the lot of them, especially because I actually cared about the harvest sprites for the only time ever. They actually served a purpose and the special items you could get (like being able to transport anywhere on the map) were sooo convenient and a great reward for hours sunk into the game
*copied from my other comment* HM: DS was unplayable because of the glitches. I never had my dog get stuck on a counter or my fish pond blow away. However, the save files would corrupt randomly, so I would have to start over. Now I play on an emulator with 0 issues lmfao Edit: I can't remember the exact versions, but the version where yet get "Buckwheat flour" at the New Year's event is the SUPER glitched version... like mine. The version where you get "Buckwheat noodles" instead is the playable version, but you can't marry the Harvest Goddess or Witch Princess since you have to be able to sell one of everything
BluennBr Interesting. My sister and I love Save the Homeland. I'm not saying it's the best since I've only played a few different games in the series(Harvest Moon GB, Save the Homeland, A Wonderful Life, and just a little of Back to Nature many years ago), but I thought it was pretty dang good. I'd say it's equal to A Wonderful Life.
JMFSpike I don't know exactly why, but Save the Homeland just doesn't is good for me. I've never played Harvest Moon GB, but A Wonderful Life and Back to Nature are 2 of my favorites.
BluennBr Harvest Moon GB was good for on the go during it's time, but now there are much better options. I've heard that it's basically a stripped down version of the SNES one, although they apparently improved a few things. I still like because it was my first HM game.
Haha, I'm a bit embarrassed to say this, but Harvest Moon Island of Happiness brought me into Harvest Moon. I only noticed the flaws after I started playing A New Beginning
The PS2 Wonderful Life game gave me a chance to milk a goat. I shall cherish that moment forever. Also build a pond that I never knew the purpose of because I got bored in the first year.
its so boring, the caracter takes 10 steps to walk 2 metters. and the pace is very slow even for a harvest moon game. harvest moon should be cartoon idk if this game is 3d or just have a horrible cell shading.
"Wow, there's a Harvest Moon game worse than The Lost Valley? How is this possib--" (sees Puzzle de Harvest Moon) "...there was a puzzle game spin-off?! I had no idea..." Nice list and explanations though; glad to see you took the time to go through your reasoning for all of these x)
+freqrexy I bought the puzzle game by accident, because I didn't know there was a puzzle spinoff series. I was picking up a bunch of bargain bin games that day, just glanced at it and thought 'Oh harvest moon' and threw it in my basket. My fault for not reading the title, but yeah the game is just terrible.
There's actually a sequel to it that's much better. Pretty sure Thomas knows about it because he sounded like he was comparing them without mentioning it. Frantic Farming has a story mode and much improved gameplay. I played it whenever I had spare time and if I was having trouble, I'd put it down and come back to it later. I eventally completed it and it felt rewarding to get the character portraits, songs, and CGs.
+UshioKiss I have that one too. I was so surprised when I started it, but it's actually a pretty decent game. Odd that it's a HM game though since it honestly doesn't have to be.
NasikaSakura I mean, it is a spinoff and a decent game. All the other spinoffs are mostly the same... Besides, the story and puzzles were all based on farming.
In Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness, you can just click the 'eat-button' in your bag to eat things so its not that complicated. I personally really liked this game especially because of Vaughn the cowboy >///< Harvest Moon DS wasn't that bad but the glitches gave me kinda the creeps sometimes. But I agree with The Lost Valley as a really bad Harvest Moon game, it's like they tried to combine Minecraft and Harvest Moon. The problem is that I don't like Minecraft because it's very boring in my opinion. Also the whole design of The Lost Valley is really ugly to me. My favourite ones will always be Animal Parade and Friends of Mineral Town
+ZeldaxSoaD I liked it too, because of Vaughn xD and my fav game is more friends of mineral town because you get to play a girl. it was never released here in germany but i got it on ebay =D unfortunately it doesnt save anymore but i still play it sometimes on a emulator x3
When I tried to play a friend's copy of DS I started a new game and there were no villagers. The tutorials didn't trigger either. It was my first experience with Harvest Moon and it prevented me from trying the series out again for a very long time.
I liked harvest moon ds but the save system is broken and so poorly done, I lost my save file after 200 hours of play time simply because it refused to load when I tried starting it up everytime as it became corrupted, even though it saved fine before i turned it off.
Amelia Bee Yeah, I HATE the Lost Valley. That was my first... I would say 'Harvest Moon' but that would be an insult to the Harvest Moon series. It was my first game. I regret buying the game.
Dustin Mitchell Marvelous Entertainment and Natsume got a "divorce." Marvelous Entertainment doesn't own the name "Harvest Moon," so Natsume tried making their own Harvest Moon game (since they own that name) to try and profit from its existing popularity. Since Marvelous Entertainment starting publishing their own games via xSeed, there was no need for them to have their partnership with Natsume anymore. So that's essentially why it sucks.
ThisIsTotallyJess;3 Well it's basically just a port instead of the next installment of the series which takes into the DS hardware and puts in interesting new ideas to create a great new installment that is innovative and transformative while using the best aspects of the previous titles - that's probably why he put it here. Also it is a glitchy mess, I can speak from that too.
Felix WSD I loved previous games so much that I spent over 40 dollars on the Light of Hope bundle. Trust me, it's a waste of time and money, to put it lightly. To not put it lightly, it's a dumpster fire. Play Story of Seasons instead.
+Yoshino nyuuu ... My first Harvest Moon games were Harvest Moon DS and Island of Happiness... And I loved it. xD I didn't have any bugs and problems with the controlls... O_O
Whaaa?! I loved Island of Happiness! I love the characters personalities in this version of the game and the cutscenes. My only issue was that my game froze while saving a few years back and I lost all my data. My file got corrupted. But I was thankfully able to redo everything over again within a week.
Trust me it's pretty bad....especially if you've already play Fomt..you would think it would be even better than Fomt but nope....it flopped as soon as it started and the awful music..
I love ToTT, its one of my first HM games :D I mean the storyline is pretty much ridiculous lol, and the characters aren't exactly personality-packed, but its still fun
The original Harvest moon or Bokujō Monogatari developed by Marvelous is now licensed under the name Story of Season. All the other games named as Harvest Moon is already developed by Natsume not Marvelous... so.... its a different game already..
Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness was my favorite, although that was the first one that I played so I may be biased. I didn't mind the controls, yeah they weren't great but... once I got used to them it was okay. The sunlight/water deal was a problem but if you talked to Taro he would give you a 100% accurate description of the upcoming weather and that would help you plan, "Okay, bad idea to water today there will be a hurricane tomorrow. Also for the weed problem, just pick a day every two weeks to go clean your field and sell it all. As ZeldaxSoad said you just have to click the eat button.
I really like how in this top 5 (or should I say worst ) you've chosen some games that people actually consider as being good and you've given really good points as to why you don't like them.It was really interesting to find some games that I didn't expect to be in there :)
Spent hundreds of hours with Harvest Moon DS, married all 14 of the bachelorettes with multiple playthroughs, and never saw a single one of the glitches you mentioned. Actually, I haven't seen any glitches at all in it. Maybe you got one of the bad copies of it.
Island of Happiness was actually the game that introduced it all to me! The characters had my whole heart, and since it was the first game and I was young, I didn't really notice the clunky controls. (although I wasn't much of a crop person more so a rancher and fisher) Shoot! I played I think 2 or 3 in game years. So long that my first cow Haruhi died of old age, which looking back I am kind of shocked they did that. Fast forward to now and I have played most every harvest moon game and everything in between. Good series and good memories
My first HM game was Island of Happiness, and looking back I hated the touch screen based controls. And there were quite a few other game mechanics I got irritated by...but at the same time it did get me hooked on the series so there is a nostalgia based love for it in me haha. That being said it is far from my favorite! I'm just lucky I found enough entertainment in Island of Happiness to play older versions of HM and continue playing to this day!
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (Special Edition) Harvest Moon Island Of Happiness Harvest Moon DS So basically every Harvest Moon game I've ever played. Got it. Thanks. *sobs in corner*
Harvest moon: island of happiness You're doing a couple things wrong. You don't have to confirm every single thing. For example, putting food in your animal feeders. You can just toss it in the same way you toss offerings into the harvest goddess pond. And eating, you did the longest process ever. You can just go to your rucksack and click food then click that fork and knife on the left side to eat it. Yes, it can be hard starting off. Things you can do for larger money payouts is ship stuff on days that end in zero. The biggest pay outs are off season stuff, the best option is shipping stuff in winter. My favorite thing about the game is the chickens. You can maintain them for practically nothing. Just build a square fence outside using rocks or sticks to put your adult chickens. They can stay out there any non rainy or snowy day. I leave my chickens out for days at a time. They're safe and they lay their eggs outside. Talking to Taro, he'll tell you the weather for the next day so you'll know if you have to bring them inside.
I know a good majority of people hated Harvest Moon DS(Cute) so did I until I started playing the Japanese version of Harvest Moon DS Cute. I run into the same issue of file corruption, but not as often (or as bad) as I did in the US copies. I feel when Natsume translated the games they made them appear more often than they needed to or something to this effect. I loved the Island of Happiness for the characters but loathed the mechanics and what needed to be done to make the island thrive.
I really love Harvest Moon DS and actually like it just as much as Friends of Mineral Town. I actually never had any bugs or glitches other than the fishing bug (which is more helpful than harmful). Maybe they fixed the bugs in the European version?
In Island of happiness, sure you have to go to the rusksack, but what the guy probably didn't know is that there is the spoon and fork sign where you can EAT
Heads up Story of Seasons is actually really convoluted and lots of waiting for anything. It's okay but the fact that you have to wait until year 5 for some animals you need for clothing you get blueprints for in year 2. And the last 2 vendors require high amounts of wierd things to unlock. I've actually had more fun with The Lost Valley. x3
Harvest Moon DS was the first one I played, on the only system I owned, so it definitely holds a place in my heart. For a kid who sucked at the game (somehow), I remember the first time I managed to figure out how to get a chicken. I didn't know how to use the tools, either. I think one time I actually stumbled across the billion G glitch, completely by accident. Went to bed, next day, holy SHIT so much money. It was fun. Never ran into any game-breaking ones, like the saving ones or the missing-things ones. HMDS Cute gets rid of most of those glitches, though.
I also hate Island of Happiness, but you missed something about the eating mechanic. When you're looking at your rucksack inventory there is a eat and throw-away button in the left bottom corner. Way faster, but you don't get to see your character eat or throw things on the ground, which is less satisfying in my opinion.
Harvest Moon DS was the first HM game I played & the one that got me into the series, so it does have a special place in my heart, but yeah it is rather glitchy & underwhelming, especially compared to other games, they did fix a lot of the issues in DS Cute however & I love that game to death, too bad I can't play it 'cause it's in my missing DS case 7,7 I personally really like the crop/weather system in IoH/SI, adds a sense of realism to an otherwise fantasy heavy game/series, it does get annoying however when you have several days of rain & your crops need some freakin sun, but eh that's life, not everything's gonna go how you planned/hoped 6:03 ... there is an EAT button in your rucksack menu, you don't have to be holding the item in order to eat it xD 8:19 omg it's a Red Pikmin!! :O
i agree with you there, i don't like the mechanic where you get 75% of your money from forging for items. I enjoy the part of harvesting crops, caring for animals like in the other harvest moon games instead of being torn between the two
Hometown Story is a Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game I love, but it's difficult to play. The reason? Glitches and bugs. Glitches and bugs so bad, they break the game. Example: let's say you have the biggest expansion to your store. You go out to try to trigger events so you can get pieces of the blue feather, or talk to people, or purchase items. You go back to your store, and there's a big line. Usually this is no big deal, just press A to confirm the purchases. BUT, here's the catch. If you have too many NPCs in one room, your game will freeze or repeat two freeze-frame cuts repeatedly and you'll have to start over from your last save.
I am so stinking excited for story of seasons, it's going to be the best game since the animal parade... I think they finally figured out how to do a quality DS harvest moon... and I'm ecstatic. Also, these past few years since New Beginning has been the start of a lot of drama for natsume, xseed and marvelous. So the game that we know and love is no longer going to be called harvest moon, but story of seasons because natsume owns the harvest moon name.
Harvest Moon DS was my first HM game so it will always hold a special place in my heart. But compared to other games I've played since, I kind of hate the game at the same time. It's so long and strenuous and just overly difficult.
Also I love island of happiness, I got it when I was 11 and still play it 8/9 years later 😂😂 Although I agree about the lack of energy, you can't get much done so it takes a while to get through but I love it so much ❤️❤️❤️
Most of Harvest Moon games had potential to be great, but they were so buggy and the controllers are really bad to play. I really liked Puzzle de Harvest Moon, but I wouldn't pay for that! It would be perfect that for a free to play game for cellphone.
Harvest Moon DS Cute was my fav! I found it very charming! I really liked how you can put HM FoMT into the GB slot while playing, and unlock the Mineral Town characters! I thought it was really fun and cute!
Harvest Moon DS was the very first Harvest Moon I've played. Too bad I had no idea what I was doing and ended up screwing things up until I learned that walkthrough is a thing. So I guess it's also a gateway for me to look up guides for games. But now that I think about it, DS was definitely buggy, the one that I had in my mind was talking to Grotz and any Mineral Town folks near the mine. When I talked to them, the screen froze. Also, had to agree with Island of Happiness, the controls are weird as hell.
IoH is one of my favorites. You can either control it all with the touchpad or the buttons. Also you don’t need to go through all that to eat just select the item in your rucksack and press the fork and knife button
Magical Melody on the Wii because here in England, you can't play as the girl! And I also had NO idea what to do and got lost literally ALL the time in the game, so I gave up after... 2 days of being lost.
In Canada, you also can't play as the girl. And I found the controls very annoying, because of the Wii remote, I would often use my tools by accident because of the movement :\ .. The GC version is a lot better in my opinion.
Too everyone who's saying Harvest Moon DS is their favorite: I guarantee you, if you ran into the glitch that causes your dog to vanish, or worse, the one that corrupts your save data, you would be singing a different tune right now. I don't know if the female version of DS fixed the issues with the original DS, like how More Friends of Mineral Town fixed the translation issues with the original FOMT, but if it did, play that one. Otherwise, just play either GBA Harvest Moon game.
Bulldozer Studios this makes sense, but for me it’s nostalgic. it was the first harvest moon game i played, and some of my favorite characters are in it (and ig a wonderful life and friends of mineral town) of course it has its issues, but for whatever reason everyone seemed to have played it as a kid and it brings back great memories :)) so yes i understand there are a lot of glitches, but for most people (myself included) it was incredibly fun and a great way to transition into the harvest moon world :)
Damn, I hate being the only one that enjoyed TLV, but I only enjoyed it because I liked the bachelorettes, the concept and feel like it could improve. It was easily a badly paced game, yes, but its concept opens up for a more interesting Harvest Moon entry. Natsume has worked with them for years, so I can see them having a good game soon. This is just the beginning, remember. Sometimes, the first game isn't always going to be good...unless it is a Nintendo franchise. Those are all apparently perfect.
Scamander Ah, that's right. Not getting my hopes up for that one, as it looked a bit peculiar. Man, it's just so depressing that Harvest Moon can never have the same characters as the games, Harvest Moon DS and before, ever again. I liked them so much. But, I would love it if they compensated by at LEAST releasing Harvest Moon DS on the Wii U that, you know, WORKS. Or, release DS: Cute uncut so we can live with the woman on a game that actually WORKS.
K. Charrette They also said a bullshit excuse about how Harvest Moon 64 was facing "technical difficulties" even though it runs just fine on homebrew emulation.
I loved Harvest Moon DS but you're right about the glitches. I played it when I was eight and the game glitched and made it so I pretty much killed my cat which really upset my eight year old self.
When I tried to play a friend's copy of DS I started a new game and there were no villagers. The tutorials didn't trigger either. It was my first experience with Harvest Moon and it prevented me from trying the series out again for a very long time.
WHAT?! WHO PUT A WONDERFUL LIFE ON HERE?! That's one of THE best hm games!!! Next to 64! I had an older game cube when I played it but it still ran great. Confused
The original Wonderful Life on the Gamecube is one of my favorites and that's why it isn't on this list. The Special Edition released on the PS2/PSN is the one on the list, that one runs horribly and is full of graphical glitches and slowdown that make it really unenjoyable to play.
Emma I had the PS2 version as my first game, so I'm fairly attached to it. considering it was on a less powerful console, it did really well and the extra features were great. The only problem was how SLOW the pacing was! And the cows... Making the cows have babies constantly was stupid... It would take me weeks to finish off one game year and it drove me insane. I'm playing Tale of Two Towns right now and, four real days later, I realize "Oh. I just made it to next spring!" It's much more satisfying with the faster pace.
Lost Valley annoys me. It has a lovely story line and lovable characters, but the absence of a town and the weird gameplay style just doesn't feel like harvest moon.
Amazing how people are still playing the gamecube, gameboy and ds version of Harvest Moon still in 2015. :") Apart from that nice and informative list.
I carried my dog into my animal shed on harvest moon ds and then a blizzard happened and my dog died along with my cow. But when the guy who lives near your farm told me that my cow died he never said the dog died.
I've never played HM: DS, but I've played HM: DS Cute and I liked it, and I agree with IoH, I liked the music and characters, but the game itself was just UUUUUUuuUUUUJUuuuUuGGgGhhhh. Just get Sunshine Islands. As for Lost Valley, was only 15 minutes into the game and hated it.
top 5 worst harvest moon games 1.)animal parade 2.)lost valley 3.)ds and ds cute 4.)sunshine islands 5.)and the worst is story of seasons and the best harvest moon games is 5.)harvest moon tale of two towns 4.)harvest moon 3.)harvest moon 64 2.)harvest moon friends of mineral town 1.)harvest moon back to nature
kyle dane Dumalagan I agree that Lost Valley and Sunshine islands (I haven't played Story of Seasons) are pretty bad games, but HMDS and HM Animal Parade are two great games, I love them.
Lol Im reading the comments and I see people complaining how harvest moon ds is not bad. Well it was the op's own opinion and y'all have your own opinions on it too :)
Island of happiness was my first harvest moon game and I really loved it and its sequel despite the fact that it was the most difficult harvest moon game I played. Also people have already said this, but you dont have to equip things to eat them.
DS and IoH are actually my favorites, because I started with them. I don't think Lost Valley's all that bad, despite it's flaws. You can't really compare it to SoS. The timing was unfortunate, though. OMG When you talk about IoH, I died inside. You made things so difficult for yourself! The knife and fork icon is what you click to eat things! Also IoH definitely lacks a few things and it could be designed better, but I still prefer it to Sunshine Islands. I generally dislike getting the sun stones (and the map is ugly). Befriending people in IoH was fun and I didn't have to worry about the sun stones. Getting a fishing pole and horse and dog is easy. The crops was kind of realistic, but in a game it's not really great, is it? You actually can kind of control the weather just like in DS and Cute, though. The only problem is I'm lazy and one Fall it didn't rain once and my carrots took the whole month to mature.
Well, I'm late (story of my life), but... Honestly, one of my least favorite Harvest Moon games is Tale of Two Towns (from the ones I've played, anyway). I think the story is ridiculous (Harvest Moon has never been a story-driven game, but the bare-bone story-lines they offer tend to work)...personally, repetitive cooking competitions (and everything stemming from cooking egoism) does not float my boat for a story mechanic, and the characters (for whatever reason) just kind of seemed like...they were there, I guess? I had a hard time connecting with most of them, and Harvest Moon IS a character-driven game (at least for me) so that turned me off. The game has a bachelor I'm fond of and that's about it. Oh yeah, not to mention that as far as I know, this is were mining got boring... So that's just my opinion...the game has some good points, but on the whole, I never really liked this one...-.-
+RinkuChan333 I Just bought Harvest Moon: A Tale Of Two Towns yesterday to hold me off untill the copy of Harvest Moon:A New Beggining i just purchased arrives and i can say that it feels so weird and when i found out the plot was based around cooking it was a unsatisfied feeling... especially because of the whole animals or crops thing, however it's something to do untill tommorow!
yeah i agree with harvest moon ds reusing way too many elements from the previous games. and their reasoning is the characters are the “descendants” of the wonderful life/fomt ones 😭 at least we got unique characters like leia, keira, and witch princess
I feel like I am the only who likes DS. It was my second Harvest Moon game next to Friends of Mineral Town and I thought it was pretty good. I for some reason like the dialogue and usually gives me a few chuckles. Plus it's portable so yeah. Only problem is obviously the glitches but I for some reason never got any.. With the exception of maybe the dog glitch seen in the video but it was at the beginning so I got over it.
he does see the spoon and fork button in the menu on the Island of happiness right???!!! you don't have to equip the item to eat it all you have to do Is go into the menu tap the item and then the spoon and fork button
Any Harvest Moon games that don't let you get married or have children are the worst.
Right lol! I liked save the homeland tho
+Carly Gill Save the Homeland was a good enough game. Wish they'd added the ability to continue after the first year with the storyline done, allowing marraige/kids, etc. Then it would have been great.
+amanogirl1 But i love Hero of leaf valley! :< i wish all of their games were like hero of leaf valley
(In Harvest Moon DS) "Sometimes your wife will just get stuck in bed and can't leave the house"
That's called depression.
I personally like Harvest Moon DS it was the gateway to the Harvest Moon games for me
+Carissa Ferguson Yeah I came to the comments to say this.
+Panneapple I completely agree. I played that game until I got married, and then had zero interest in picking it up again.
same. it was the first ever game i got
Harvest Moon DS is my first and the best for me too.
For me, The Lost Valley is not even an Harvest Moon game. It's just a cheap knock off. I don't care if some people still think its good
***** I second this.
***** I third this.
I agree.
I fifth this. I bought it and was EXTREMELY disappointed by it.
Actually it technically is because Natsume only owns the name Harvest Moon. Marvelous owns the original series, and had to rename it .
Harvest Moon DS murdered the touch screen on my DS with the amount of pet interaction I had to do!
Lol yeah. The touch screen. When u petting the animals xD
@@pamelaarief4227 Assuming the game isn't glitching your animals out of existence, like your dog.
That and the data corruption issue put me off DS completely.
Or trying to get the higher quality milk (before the fishing glitch made money irrelevent)
I liked harvest moon ds, it was the one that got me into the series
I have DS cute which is fantastic, but DS is has way too many bugs. They fixed the majority of them with the girl version
wernt0 try Sunshine Island, The best harvest moon I have played so far, still wanna try story of seasons
Yeah me to I love harvest moon ds
wernt0 OMG same, it was my first :-)
wernt0 My first Harvest Moon was Friends of Mineral Town.
I got it from my Brother when i was 10.
My second was Harvest Moon DS both epic games
The first time I played Harvest moon ds there weren't any villagers. I was literally the only character in the game.
UmbreonsRus WAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHA XD WTH!? what happened? how did things come to this, bro? x'DD
UmbreonsRus well yours was freaking glitched then wasn't it xD
TheLuckyNerd I don't even...How in the living hell does a game glitch out the MAIN thing it was supposed to do...god, I keep reading his comment again and again and each time I laugh harder than I did before xD
Farah Elshami The freaky thing was that if I pressed the a button in front of a shop counter I could still buy things. There obviously wasn't anyone there, but I could buy stuff from them.
HM gone horror, ey? xD
ds is mine favourite. I disagree to everyone who doesn't like ds xD
and oh yeah island of happiness, I got it for my 10th birthday I think. I was so happy but the game isn't that good :/
I hate every HM game apart from DS. I don't understand why it's so hated?
SimTube X Same! I Always Play Rune Factory on Ds
Ah same here. It not the best but it definitely on my top 5.
Is it bad that Harvest Moon DS is my favorite of all of them? I never actually ran into any of those glitches in the years I've played it.
"Is it bad that--?"
No, it's never bad. For fuck's sake.
1570AF Why should it be bad? Ist's about having fun and playing the games you enjoy.
The Cute version fixed most of the bugs. So if you played the Cute version, then it's a good game from what I've read. Unfortunately, if you're a guy, then playing that fixed version in order to enjoy the experience also means having to play as a girl and marry a guy.
@@JMFSpike at least e have a choice not to marry anyone :')
I still play DS though, I don't seem to experience any bug at all.
Umm is it bad that I like harvest moon ds?
Kurtis Leung It isn't that bad, because those were just his opinions about some of the HM games he does not like.
I also like Harvest Moon DS. I love the kind of mystery "air" in the game.
I like it, but I prefer the cute one better. But I actually lost my dog AND my cat in the boy version
I Rule I kinda like in the cute version that you can change your clothes and the walls of the house.
Frest-san I know island of happiness does have problems but in my opinion it's a hell of a lot better than sunshine islands
I know I'm the only person who thinks that grand bazaar is the best game in the series but I just love the market idea!
Kate McNamara actually its one of my favorites
i really loved grand bazaar
I love it
Kate Mc same
It’s in my top 5. It’s really great
But... but Harvest Moon DS is awesome.
@@JMFSpike i agree I have cute and I had never experienced a bug in 2 real years of gameplay
Harvest Moon DS was such a mess. I remember having to sell your animals once they got old, because when they died of old age, your friendship points with everyone in the village would drop.
I cant believe how hideous Harvest Moon lost Valley looks. how can this be 2014 game? the N64 game looks better ffs.
Honestly, Lost Valley is a pretty good game if you get past all the quests that are nearly impossible at times and once you restore all the seasons its quite easier. Thats just my opinion but hey, i've been playing it for a while now and i've grown slightly attached.
You're basically saying 'it's a good game if you ignore all the bad parts.'
if thats how you see it i guess. I like it all pretty much. Just not the asshole underworld king ;v;
Lost Valley is what put me off Natsume for the rest of my life.
Why its SOOO COOL XD XD
I ❤ harvest moon DS and DS cute. For me they are the best !
@Calebe Souza did you play as a kid or as an adult? it was my #1 childhood game, i have a file in ds cute thats 11 years in, the furthest ive ever gotten in an HM game. i love it
The best? You clearly didn't play Harvest Moon: Back to Nature or Friends of Mineral Town.
@@nicholasgerry6931 AWL is iconic.
Island of Happiness's controls drove me to near insanity, the remake was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better.
Agreed!
Lost valley should have stayed lost
Lol rawr ecks dee
Hehe I loved Harvest Moon DS but fuck I remember it being so hard to get all the sprites back >.< You had to find so many if you wanted to marry someone in the game!
in harvest moon DS my dog walked up a wall in my house and disappeared forever.
Lmao.
Lmao
He went into the backrooms
WHAT? HARVEST MOON DS WAS THE FIRST HARVEST MOON THAT I EVER PLAYED AND THATS HOW I GOT TO KNOW HARVEST MOON AND FALL IN LOVE WITH
and omg, harvest moon island of happiness is the first one that i actually finished. yeah at the beginning, it's really hard but you made the "eating action" way too long. you can just pick the item that you want to eat go in your backpack and either select it and then click on the 🍴 symbol or take the item and drag it to the 🍴 symbol. it's not that long.
same
I loved DS as well! :D
Same!
Same
Agreed. It was my first harvest moon and I fell in love with the games
*copied from my other comment*
HM: DS was unplayable because of the glitches. I never had my dog get stuck on a counter or my fish pond blow away. However, the save files would corrupt randomly, so I would have to start over. Now I play on an emulator with 0 issues lmfao
Edit: I can't remember the exact versions, but the version where yet get "Buckwheat flour" at the New Year's event is the SUPER glitched version... like mine. The version where you get "Buckwheat noodles" instead is the playable version, but you can't marry the Harvest Goddess or Witch Princess since you have to be able to sell one of everything
I just love Harvest Moon DS, it is one of my favorite games in the series, but HM Save The Homeland for PS2 it's horrible (my opinion)
BluennBr
Harvest Moon GB was good for on the go during it's time, but now there are much better options. I've heard that it's basically a stripped down version of the SNES one, although they apparently improved a few things. I still like because it was my first HM game.
JMFSpike My first Harvest Moon game was Harvest Moon 64 in japanese. A few years later I get the english version, and started to play the franchise.
***** Looking at the other games in the franchise, Save The Homeland just looks..boring.
Haha, I'm a bit embarrassed to say this, but Harvest Moon Island of Happiness brought me into Harvest Moon. I only noticed the flaws after I started playing A New Beginning
That’s not embarrassing at all. It was a good game, especially if you’ve never played a Harvest Moon game before. It’s an interesting introduction!
That game was my childhood I want to buy it again cuz I really enjoyed !
HOW YOU DARE?? HARVEST MOON DS AND ISLAND OF HAPPINESS WERE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!★★★
"Wow, there's a Harvest Moon game worse than The Lost Valley? How is this possib--"
(sees Puzzle de Harvest Moon)
"...there was a puzzle game spin-off?! I had no idea..."
Nice list and explanations though; glad to see you took the time to go through your reasoning for all of these x)
UshioKiss
Yes, but that's the only relations really to it being a HM game. It's still a good game though. :)
+ZeldaxSoaD I liked it too, because of Vaughn xD
and my fav game is more friends of mineral town because you get to play a girl. it was never released here in germany but i got it on ebay =D unfortunately it doesnt save anymore but i still play it sometimes on a emulator x3
Sakura Haruno
Ach du kommst auch aus Deutschland? Yay Gleichgesinnte xD
vaughn is haaaaawt xD
NO HARVEST MOON DS IS ON HERE?! HOW DARE YOU?!?!?!
Ds is crappy
@@Crayon_Egbert not the cute version,it’s a little bit boring but it’s better than the newer ones
I hate The Lost Valley SO. MUCH. Figures that it's the worst actual HM game, since #1 isn't a HM game at all!
Amelia Bee I'm glad I wasn't alone in my disdain towards The Lost Valley. I just wanted a town!
Amelia Bee Yea. I wish HM 64 could be updated
If was made this year:
- A Wonderful Life Special Edition
- Every Harvest Moon made by Natsume.
D O N E
OMG HOW DARE YOU I LOVED HARVEST MOON DS ;-;
It's his list, not yours...
ThisIsTotallyJess;3 Well it's basically just a port instead of the next installment of the series which takes into the DS hardware and puts in interesting new ideas to create a great new installment that is innovative and transformative while using the best aspects of the previous titles - that's probably why he put it here.
Also it is a glitchy mess, I can speak from that too.
same!
Harvest Moon ds is literally my favorite in the series :D
Every "Harvest Moon game" made by Natsume and not Marvelous are the worst.
DarkMirria1 You know what's up. I'm loving Story of Seasons. I've played a few others.
I haven't played Light of Hope. Is it any good?
Felix WSD I loved previous games so much that I spent over 40 dollars on the Light of Hope bundle. Trust me, it's a waste of time and money, to put it lightly. To not put it lightly, it's a dumpster fire. Play Story of Seasons instead.
I don't think so. Friends of Mineral Town and More Friends of Mineral Town are kinda good.
DarkMirria1 Of course
I Agree to some-EXEPT "ISLAND OF HAPPINESS" u just need to work a bit hard to appreciate it dude.
I agree with you, but not with the point that Harvest Moon:Island of Happiness and Harvest Moon DS are one of the worst Harvest Moon games..
+Yoshino nyuuu ... My first Harvest Moon games were Harvest Moon DS and Island of Happiness... And I loved it. xD I didn't have any bugs and problems with the controlls... O_O
Same
harvest moon island of happiness was my first game ever and the characters/music are so nostalgic for me omg i love it so much
Haha, I know a lot of people hate IoH, but it's actually among my favorites. Mostly because it was my first Harvest Moon ever.
Whaaa?! I loved Island of Happiness! I love the characters personalities in this version of the game and the cutscenes. My only issue was that my game froze while saving a few years back and I lost all my data. My file got corrupted. But I was thankfully able to redo everything over again within a week.
Harvest Moon DS isn't that bad. Its the only Harvest Moon game that I've ever played.
+AJPup yeah, it was my first too. I love that game. XD
Trust me it's pretty bad....especially if you've already play Fomt..you would think it would be even better than Fomt but nope....it flopped as soon as it started and the awful music..
>It's not bad
>It's the only one I've played
This is hilarious.
Lol harvest moon ds is the most complete harvest moon game ever
Im just happy you didn't put harvest moon tale of two towns :)
Celin Verena SAME
Celin Verena It's probably because that game is just average, not good or bad
Yeah even the game is a bit boring but I still love playing it XD
Celin Verena IKR
I love ToTT, its one of my first HM games :D
I mean the storyline is pretty much ridiculous lol, and the characters aren't exactly personality-packed, but its still fun
Harvest Moon, a series of game that becomes harder as time eats it
***** Maybe I should get a little more technical. The marriage
***** Yes, it started from nonexistent to improving relationship with multiple character and crazy blue feather prereq
***** Really? It's their idea? Most japanese games have a trigger before going to the west, like Fire Emblem
I have to disagree with your opinion on Harvest Moon DS. It's one of my favorite titles. Although i can understand why some people might dislike it.
I'm surprised Saving the Homeland isn't an honorable mention at least.
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (Special Edition)
Harvest Moon Island Of Happiness
Harvest Moon DS
So basically every Harvest Moon game I've ever played. Got it. Thanks.
*sobs in corner*
No harvest moon back to nature?
Harvest moon: island of happiness
You're doing a couple things wrong.
Talking to Taro, he'll tell you the weather for the next day so you'll know if you have to bring them inside.
damn, most of my favorite HM games are in here :'D i guess you can appreciate it easier with much lower expectations, especially when young~
Just finished the story of HM innocent life. It was pretty nice but then i realized your char couldn't get married even if it became human in the end.
This is so wrong. The only thing i agree with is IoH, TLV, and of course the puzzle de. But seriously DS and Another Wonderful Life are so good.
I really love Harvest Moon DS and actually like it just as much as Friends of Mineral Town. I actually never had any bugs or glitches other than the fishing bug (which is more helpful than harmful). Maybe they fixed the bugs in the European version?
In Island of happiness, sure you have to go to the rusksack, but what the guy probably didn't know is that there is the spoon and fork sign where you can EAT
i really dislike harvest moon a wonderful life cause its too slow and the graphic are weird
my least favorite is that Playstation 2 Save the Homeland. One year limit, no marriages and a tiny map.
Heads up Story of Seasons is actually really convoluted and lots of waiting for anything. It's okay but the fact that you have to wait until year 5 for some animals you need for clothing you get blueprints for in year 2. And the last 2 vendors require high amounts of wierd things to unlock. I've actually had more fun with The Lost Valley. x3
Any "Harvest Moon" game by Natsume is nothing but a horrible fan game to me. I hope to see more of the real Harvest Moon games under Story of Seasons.
Harvest Moon DS was the first HM game I played & the one that got me into the series, so it does have a special place in my heart, but yeah it is rather glitchy & underwhelming, especially compared to other games, they did fix a lot of the issues in DS Cute however & I love that game to death, too bad I can't play it 'cause it's in my missing DS case 7,7
I personally really like the crop/weather system in IoH/SI, adds a sense of realism to an otherwise fantasy heavy game/series, it does get annoying however when you have several days of rain & your crops need some freakin sun, but eh that's life, not everything's gonna go how you planned/hoped
6:03 ... there is an EAT button in your rucksack menu, you don't have to be holding the item in order to eat it xD
8:19 omg it's a Red Pikmin!! :O
Ditto to everything you said. I want to try Sunshine Islands now, since everyone says it improves Island of Happiness.
Island of happiness was my first Harvest moon game and I actually love it, once you learn the mechanics you'll see there are patterns
Tale of Two Towns is my worst harvest moon game a game revolving around cooking festivals and that is my least favorite part of harvest moon.
i agree with you there, i don't like the mechanic where you get 75% of your money from forging for items. I enjoy the part of harvesting crops, caring for animals like in the other harvest moon games instead of being torn between the two
Nope. I love it especially a heart event and ur child
shanef The story was dumb. Only being allowed one farm upgrade a season drove me crazy.
I had to watch 2 ads at the end of the video before I was allowed to go back listen to something I missed. what is youtube doing with these ads?
Harvest Moon DS was the very first Harvest Moon I've played. Too bad I had no idea what I was doing and ended up screwing things up until I learned that walkthrough is a thing. So I guess it's also a gateway for me to look up guides for games.
But now that I think about it, DS was definitely buggy, the one that I had in my mind was talking to Grotz and any Mineral Town folks near the mine. When I talked to them, the screen froze.
Also, had to agree with Island of Happiness, the controls are weird as hell.
When I was a kid Flora always got married before I could get the spas 😂
You can't play as the girl in Magical Melody for the Wii, because they were to lazy to put that part in the Wii version
Magical Melody was ported to wii? I didn't even know as I have the gcn version
Being my first ever harvest moon game, Harvest Moon DS was my favourite just for the nostalgia. I do agree about the glitches though.
wow i didn't even know #1 existed and now i wish i didn't. who thought a Harvest Moon puzzle game would work?
Harvest Moon DS and Harvest Moon FoMT are the best Harvest Moon games :o
Harvest Moon Island of Happiness was the First Harvest Moon I ever bought, so I like it, But there Are Harvest Moons that Are a lot better I guess :3
+Medachod Yeah, I'm sure the f2p iOS game they are releasing next will be so much better. /s
+Medachod I'm with you! Working port on WiiU shop and/or uncut DS Cute
K. Charrette They also said a bullshit excuse about how Harvest Moon 64 was facing "technical difficulties" even though it runs just fine on homebrew emulation.
I need a console 64. I tried to emulate it, but that's just not gonna happen. It's an old game, the controls aren't the friendliest.
There is literally an "eat" button for food in your rucksack in Island of Happiness.
The new harvest moon titles aren’t even real harvest moon though
I loved Harvest Moon DS but you're right about the glitches. I played it when I was eight and the game glitched and made it so I pretty much killed my cat which really upset my eight year old self.
I also love DS and the same thing happened to me as in the video, but I found my dog
+Thomal9 oh! So sorry, missed that part. I was too angry seeing a wonderful life on the list. Lol thanks for confirming that.
Emma does this guy not see the eating hot key in the rucksack menu?!?!????
Emma I had the PS2 version as my first game, so I'm fairly attached to it. considering it was on a less powerful console, it did really well and the extra features were great. The only problem was how SLOW the pacing was! And the cows... Making the cows have babies constantly was stupid... It would take me weeks to finish off one game year and it drove me insane. I'm playing Tale of Two Towns right now and, four real days later, I realize "Oh. I just made it to next spring!" It's much more satisfying with the faster pace.
That games is really slow and boring my opinion
Lost Valley annoys me. It has a lovely story line and lovable characters, but the absence of a town and the weird gameplay style just doesn't feel like harvest moon.
Amazing how people are still playing the gamecube, gameboy and ds version of Harvest Moon still in 2015. :")
Apart from that nice and informative list.
2021*
I carried my dog into my animal shed on harvest moon ds and then a blizzard happened and my dog died along with my cow. But when the guy who lives near your farm told me that my cow died he never said the dog died.
I've never played HM: DS, but I've played HM: DS Cute and I liked it, and I agree with IoH, I liked the music and characters, but the game itself was just UUUUUUuuUUUUJUuuuUuGGgGhhhh. Just get Sunshine Islands. As for Lost Valley, was only 15 minutes into the game and hated it.

2.)lost valley
3.)ds and ds cute

ok
kyle dane Dumalagan I agree that Lost Valley and Sunshine islands (I haven't played Story of Seasons) are pretty bad games, but HMDS and HM Animal Parade are two great games, I love them.
***** I've never played Friends of Mineral Town, but Back to Nature is my favorite.
ok
I honestly liked the lost valley. But I guess it kinda a hit, and miss.
+jr6002 oh and yes the characters lack in standing out mostly because they arn't so dynamic in personality
+jr6002 And here I thought people would throw rocks at me for that opinion XD But yeah, I was disappointed
+RinkuChan333 nope your opinion is common :p
+jr6002 I see...so many people seem to freak out about Cam, so I just kind of figured people liked the game more than I did...:P
yeah i agree with harvest moon ds reusing way too many elements from the previous games. and their reasoning is the characters are the “descendants” of the wonderful life/fomt ones 😭 at least we got unique characters like leia, keira, and witch princess
