Despite the limited things in this game I will still love this game no matter how much shit people love to talk about it. The gameplay was pretty awesome. Seeing this on the Switch would be great.
I think they should do a rerelease, but redo Samus’ lines with her voice actor from Dread. It wouldn’t change the story much, but it would at least make Samus feel more powerful.
If there’s one thing this game did right, it’s the animations and frenetic action. I like how Mercury Steam kept the metroidvania gameplay, but also implemented the over the top action and slick movement from other M for Samus returns and Dread
I loved the "hack and slash" style of other M despite all the incongruences that had the game mostly in the story. It was really really fun to play and is one of my favourites metroids due the playability and I would love to see a new metroid with this style, obviously more cared and developed about story and controls
Samus taking orders from the Federation is ludicrous. Sure she’ll work with them but it’s been shown that she’s told them to “F off” a few times and ignored what they actually wanted her to do.
Other M is basically the DMC of Devil May Cry. Is not a bad game, really good ideas, but poorly executed. I would love to see a Metroid game with a Metal Gear Rising type of action and camera.
All Metroid sequels should incorporate more action gameplay from now on. Prime 3 was good but felt kind of uninspired in terms of mechanics. Maybe Prime 4 will sell better if it goes a more into FPS territory? (Without sacrificing the Metroid formula of course.) Somewhat recently I realized that Samus’ games share a bit too much DNA with Zelda. Perhaps they’re having trouble standing out and the sales numbers suffer as a result?
@@protocetid The Biggest issue that Metroid has is that is the "Lesser" of Nintendo's IPs so all the budget goes to Pokemon, Zelda and Mario at the end of the day, Dev teams has to work with what they had leaving little room to try out new things, Dread is a great game, but is not something ground breaking at the end of the day, although, a great sequel from Fusion/

I loved this game, only because I treated it as a Gaiden game, lol Metroid Gaiden. Since I played ninja Gaiden and this game was made by Team Ninja I treated it as such and had no problems with it lol
See, even I personally, having grown with classic Metroid games, felt this was a dope change of gameplay. I did enjoy NG1&2 as well, but the thing that was a major blow, was Samus's portrayal.. now that was just poorly executed imo Seeing how this game places before the Fusion Events and after the Super events, which means Samus is already a vet in combat and threat elimination. Besides that, I think it's going to remain as badly rated Metroid game, and sadly, it covers one of the crucial transitions into the main story of Fusion.
I assume the Chozo DNA infusion and subsequent training is how Samus was able to do all that running and other acrobatic stunts while in the wedge heels her Zero Suit for the game had.
Gotta say...the authorization is somehow logic to me but only for powerful weapons like the power bomb so she wouldn't harm any civil persons by accident.
I admit that I think this Nightmare is scarier than Nightmare X from Fusion. Whether it's because of the more detailed graphics, the expanded set of attacks, or the noises it makes, I don't know. Maybe it's all three?
It's definitely different from the other Metroid games, but it seems to have its own unique charm. I really like the graphics! Also, Nightmare, my favorite Metroid boss of all time, what on Earth did they do to you? Makes me wonder when the x-viruses reanimate dead tissue that the flesh can become rotted due to complications or something. That could possibly explain why Nightmare looks like an undead zombie in Fusion.
I like the idea that Nightmare was an incomplete bioweapon that the X took over and, through that infection, perfected the thing. Like that mask has to work as a sort of control mechanism since it was stumbling around without it, while the x version was fighting until it’s face was a molten mess.
I don't think I ever saw the Overblast animation where Samus shoves her arm cannon down Ridley's throat. That's so badass! I kinda want them to port this game to the Switch, not only to relive this awesome gameplay, but so it could benefit from the better control of the gyro aiming.
@@Raiden3651 nah bro. Dread action is cool, but Other Ms only flaw was Samus talking too much like a lil neurotic baby. Also, I bet we would have complained less if she spoke Chozo in Other M. @@JuicemanGravy these new Dread finishers are cooler to me only cause I get thrown off seeing Team Ninja reuse attack animations they made in the Saturn/Dreamcast/Xbox eras. Just glad that issue's solved for Samus now.
@klaus.sfc01official30 It's just because of the story and Adam not letting Samus use all of her equipment until much later on for (seemingly) no reason.
I understand that teamwork and trust are essential, but this guy gives out orders to Samus like she, a bounty hunter, doesn't have any idea what to do.
Ridley's adolescent form kinda looks like it drew inspiration from Monster Hunter's Yian Garuga. A white mane, purple body with green trim. Even the shades are dead on.
Okay after playing Metroid Dread I’ve realized a few things. I loved the scene where Mercury Steam remembered that Samus was raised by the Chozo. And that she spoke in the Chozo language. Now they need to go back to “Other M” and change it to fit in the timeline. They need to remember that Adam was a Commander that Samus had so much respect for, that if he asked her not to use power up do to the safety of others, that she wouldn’t. And not that he’s “like her father”. No. She had a father in Old Bird. Other M has such great gameplay, and on Nintendo’s new consoles it would feel and play even more amazing, and they would be able to tweak out all the bugs. Movement would be so smooth with today’s controls, and you can have a 1st person view for looking/shooting if needed, but it doesn’t need to be required, it would just be a button press. Then they need to go and bring in their best sound designers and orchestra, they need to bring the music back to Metroid, just like they did with the prime series, and Samus Returns. But with all new themes. Music in Metroid let’s you know how Samus feels, it makes the mood. They need to bring back the “purple” Gravity Suit, and not just a feature. Missiles have to be useable in 3rd person, and not just first person view. The counter needs to be updated to the new counter strike that’s in Samus returns/Dread, it would make the gameplay so much smoother then trying to manually dodge, or trying to jump on the enemy’s head. Now let’s focus on the story. First off we need a title that makes sense, and not a code for Mother. This is a game where everyone aboard a space ship dies, and so we need a strong name. Also Samus never called the Metroid a baby in Samus Returns or Super Metroid, she called it “the Infant Metroid”, so let’s completely ditch her saying “the baby”. That got old pretty quick. Now… Let’s address the PTSD when she sees Ridley, up to that point Samus has faced Ridley 5 times, and not once did she go PTSD. She can have a panic attack because yes she completely destroyed him in Super, and she’s completely shocked that the creature that killed her whole family in front of her is alive, but give the lady some dignity, and not make her out to be crazy. And finally… Adam didn’t shoot Samus in the back to stop her, instead the cloned infant Metroid attacked Samus, as she thought it just hatched and that she might develop a bond like before, and he shot the Metroid killing it, and saving her. That’s why she was so exhausted, because it had drained her life energy to feed. Now the Voice acting/translation needs to be updated to our culture style, and not Japans culture style. People in other countries don’t always understand others cultures, and it makes things feel weird/awkward or dry. Instead let the actors and translation teams do what they do best. “Act”. I think people really feel that Other M is a bad game because of a few missteps along the way, and because they forgot some of her real past. But at its core it’s a good game, and it has so much potential. Let’s make it be the game it deserves.
Finally someone who can see the potential in this game! Yes, it did have its missteps and flaws, but like you said at its core it's a good game. There are certain aspects that should be changed to fit in line with the other games but I enjoyed this one nonetheless
There is this team in reddit that worked on modding other m, as i can see it works some aspects of what u said (metroid other m maxximum edition) [or something like that, give it a look!]
this is actually my favorite metroid game, it tops even Fusion for me. You have to look at it from a full standpoint to truly love this game. As much as people hate it, this is the only time we see an emotionally damaged samus. The wear and tear of her work getting to her shows shes human, feels a bit like when she was first announced as a woman to most players. The gameplay is perfection, it has moments where your first person feels like Prime and for those who want the original experience of running aimlessly around its there. Lastly it keeps its ambiance and mystery by showing us new and old types of enemies as well as teasing Fusion. It also kind of gives Fusion a more down to earth feel for Samus, the whole Adam Malkovich thing makes more sense for veteran players and we also finally see deph in it. Sorry but this game is a 9/10 for me.
Okay people, I do understand Samus´ reaction to see Ridley again it´s quite questionable. But come on, she thought he was dead for good once for all, _the murderer of her parents_ she thought he was gone, it´s kinda normal to be in shock that way once you find out one way or another the same guy stills there somehow to haunt you forever. I still enjoyed his boss battle tho.
Most underrated metroid game in the entire series... I love Other M so friggin' much. I had 0 trouble with the gameplay/controls. But I do agree, maybe making it so that a "wii pro controller" an alternative.
Whoever did this game didn't understand that the essence of Metroid is mystery, atmosphere, tension and challenging bosses, it's not about flashy, bombastic, over the top action.
You cannot tell me these boss fights arent satisfying. The Ice beam Missile combo is awesome, freeze it then blow it apart, or blow a piece of it off. The Overcharge and quick dodge made me feel like a badass.

Thing is, knowing how the quote unquote "Mystery Creature" is supposed to be an adolescent Ridley clone, I wonder why the game and the creators call it such. Seeing how it's a duplicate of original Ridley, it should make sense why it attacks Samus. Maybe the clone remembers its past life? Also, in its infant form, it appears as a little albino furby looking thing. Apart from that I'm assuming this game leads into Metroid Fusion. In the Sub-Zero containment area lays the frozen carcass of the Ridley clone, having had his energy yum-yum eaten up by the Metroid Queen. The corpse is soon taken over and mimicked by an X-Parasite later into the game.
Other M had the potential to be such a cool game. They did fairly well using only the Wiimote, and the pre-rendered cutscenes actually look really sleek. Had they approached the story, the linearity, and Samus' character better (as well as redacted the most glaring plot contradiction in the entire series) it could have been remembered more fondly than it is.
I can’t stand the Ridley part. You killed him and he revived quite a few times before this but oh no he comes back and she has an anxiety attack. Dread was a much better hold of her character.
yeah... considering samus return remake, prime series, and Zero, she has killed him like 5 times already, ... and now she gets anxious ... of all, she should get exhausted from seen his face, like die already you flying lizard xd
Hey man. Ptsd isn't really something you can get over. Ridley killed her parents. He is also highly intelligent and controls a large portion of the space pirates. I'd have a anxiety attack too if I thought I avenged/killed something, only to have it come back haunting me. Dread she has matured. Other M she is still young. Fusion she is still at lost on losing Adam.
This is THE ONLY time she's ever shown ANY emotion IN THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE. You can't compare emotionless silent protag Samus, with the ONLY version of Samus to show ANY EMOTIONS.

I only came to this video to see what the Nightmare boss would look like in 3D and honestly I wanted to see how terrifying his melty face was in 3D as well, but now that I actually saw it, I regret asking because I literally screamed in horror by the mere sight of it. And when it crawls in the second phase, it reminds me of a spider which I intensely hate because I have arachnophobia
I have this game and I genuinely enjoy it.
Well I’m glad one of us could have a good time with this( even though I personally hate it)
Actually hate is a strong word, it’s more like this game irritated me.
Im glad you are being positive about it.
I like it too
Despite the limited things in this game I will still love this game no matter how much shit people love to talk about it. The gameplay was pretty awesome. Seeing this on the Switch would be great.
It’s mostly the story that’s bad.
I think they should do a rerelease, but redo Samus’ lines with her voice actor from Dread. It wouldn’t change the story much, but it would at least make Samus feel more powerful.
@@usingtiltcontrols3695 And it's funny beasuse I didn't mind it so much.
Ok who hired the demon baby to voice nightmare
I think is a reference for this BioWeapon that appears in Redline.
If that is voice then that means that the nightmare we fight here and in fusion are in the juvenile stage so what's the adult nightmare
Nightmare was way better in Fusion.
i still cant think of a single reason that varia suit feature would ever need authorization
I'm surprised that everyone in the comments is liking this game, I pretty much enjoyed it myself too
I had lots of fun with this game despite all negative aspects. Time for a replay
Yeah this basically describes my feelings about other M except the part about it being my favorite
@@badasstasticusbadass4908 Metroid would certainly get a budget increase if it drew in a larger audience, and to do that it should differentiate itself more.
@@protocetid Last time they tried something new we got Other M and Federation force, the franchise was put in crio stasis for so many years before we got Samus Returns in the DS and allmost a decade for Dread. It's risky to experiment with new things with Metroid.
@@badasstasticusbadass4908 Nah those games were just poorly done. Notice I didn't say 2D Metroid needs to lean into action, because it’s already doing so. Strange of you to be against change when your original comment calls for just that.
I did enjoy NG1&2 as well, but the thing that was a major blow, was Samus's portrayal.. now that was just poorly executed imo
Seeing how this game places before the Fusion Events and after the Super events, which means Samus is already a vet in combat and threat elimination.
Besides that, I think it's going to remain as badly rated Metroid game, and sadly, it covers one of the crucial transitions into the main story of Fusion.
The goyagma creature is quite an interesting boss in the Metroid series.
I think this is the only time we see samus be genuinely terrified.
i've never seen this Metroid M
wow this is really amazing!!! 🤩🤩🤩
To be fair, if I had to fight Ridley for 3 games in a row, I'd be stressed seeing him too.
Awesome!
I enjoyed every second. Well done. Greetings from Honduras❤
Yeeeesss.
I didn’t know Phantoon would steal the show by being the final boss!
Holy fucking shit, Adam legitimately ***ALLOWS USE OF THE VARIA SUIT*** wtf
I assume the Chozo DNA infusion and subsequent training is how Samus was able to do all that running and other acrobatic stunts while in the wedge heels her Zero Suit for the game had.
Why does maskless Nightmare sounds like a crying human baby?!
I dont like how samus was scared of ridley, because she never was before. She always kicked ridleys ass
I remember seeing this game in a store at one point, but I wasted that chance to buy it.
I like how in the King Kihunter Boss fight Samus picks one of the enemies and throws it! XD
I'm sure Other M is a fine game per se, just storywise it feels like a Metroid fanfiction.
First Metroid game I ever played takes a special place
Gotta say...the authorization is somehow logic to me but only for powerful weapons like the power bomb so she wouldn't harm any civil persons by accident.
People give this game a bad rap. And it's deserved in quite a bit of ways, but being a Metroid game was enough to keep me happy.
I loved the gameplay except for the 1st person missile mechanic. The voice acting wad the worst part of the game for me
@@spacefreak0010 In Japanese it seems that I fit better
@@diegosilva9979 thats what ive heard
I admit that I think this Nightmare is scarier than Nightmare X from Fusion. Whether it's because of the more detailed graphics, the expanded set of attacks, or the noises it makes, I don't know. Maybe it's all three?
I prefer more the design of Phantoon in super metroid this one is more scary
I like this one more
*LETS NOT GET INTO ITS SIZE, I DONT LIKE IT*
It's definitely different from the other Metroid games, but it seems to have its own unique charm.
38:48 It’s kind of funny how the music was immediately cut off by the alarm.
25:25 he didn’t like that to much
I don't think I ever saw the Overblast animation where Samus shoves her arm cannon down Ridley's throat. That's so badass! I kinda want them to port this game to the Switch, not only to relive this awesome gameplay, but so it could benefit from the better control of the gyro aiming.
Youre in luck on Dread in terms of brutal/Not Kratos finisher animations
@@Raiden3651 nah bro. Dread action is cool, but Other Ms only flaw was Samus talking too much like a lil neurotic baby. Also, I bet we would have complained less if she spoke Chozo in Other M.
If Dread was 2.5D like it should have been, it would have broken 90%.
It's basically the same game stylistically. But Other M was a slap. Besides the bullshit 1st person missle stuff, this game was great mechanically
@@JuicemanGravy these new Dread finishers are cooler to me only cause I get thrown off seeing Team Ninja reuse attack animations they made in the Saturn/Dreamcast/Xbox eras. Just glad that issue's solved for Samus now.
@@Raiden3651 I tbh that's fair af. Bc I have only played this team ninja game. I didn't know they repurposed some of them. Dang man I'm kinda sad now.
@@JuicemanGravy over with now if you decided to play Stranger of Paradise. Not alot of recycling.
Would I be crazy if I said I actually like Metroid Other M since it’s the first Metroid game I’ve ever owned & completed?
Nope, Just your opinion and people need to respect it
Same here. It was the first Metroid I played and completed 100% and I absolutely love it!
In the first minute, Samus talked more than in all Metroid Dread.
That is the graphics Wii should have had
This game deserves to be playable for the Nintendo switch
I never understood why people hated this game from this video it doesn't look that bad
Also
Samus never called the Metroid a baby in Samus Returns or Super Metroid, she called it “the Infant Metroid”, so let’s completely ditch her saying “the baby”.
And finally…
Adam didn’t shoot Samus in the back to stop her, instead the cloned infant Metroid attacked Samus, as she thought it just hatched and that she might develop a bond like before, and he shot the Metroid killing it, and saving her.

Nice gameplay this game
Nightmare sounds terrifying without his mask!
this is actually my favorite metroid game, it tops even Fusion for me.
17:23 Samus:stop making alt accounts Ridley!!!!!
What a "rp"

Anthony's one of the only redeeming features of this game
14:25 I had no idea you could overblast the Ferrocrusher. It even plays a DIFFERENT death animation if you do so.
Samus was a different person back then.
I still don’t understand which idiot at the federation thought that it would be a good idea to clone Ridley.
The Federation are always idiot way of cloning Ridley they thought it was good idea
I did like the mystery aspect of the game. And Samus’s voice over were cool.
I want a remake for nintendo switch 🙏🏽
More like a remaster of it
So do I. Cuz I've never played that game before.
I love how Samus doesn't regain her abilities, she just waits for Adam to fucking AUTHORISE them. She's badass, and follows the rules at the same time
You cannot tell me these boss fights arent satisfying.

Other M really knows how to make plasma rifles look a lot like bullets
Finally they brought back Phantoon in Other M
Other M had the potential to be such a cool game. They did fairly well using only the Wiimote, and the pre-rendered cutscenes actually look really sleek. Had they approached the story, the linearity, and Samus' character better (as well as redacted the most glaring plot contradiction in the entire series) it could have been remembered more fondly than it is.
I would have loved to have played this if it wasn't a console exclusive.
The soundtrack reminds me heavily of Deadspace and the game play looks great
Queen metroid remembers me to boolusus from luigi's mansion...
If Samus go to your home, be careful, maybe it explodes in 5 min or less... XD Love you Samus...
@@TaiTai-py2tp Fuck off, she already overcame her fear of Ridley in the manga, this here makes no fucking sense and shouldnt have been in the game.
There’s a great video covering it, but its the localization that made the game about PTSD. Original Japanese was more about Samus growing up.
This needs a remaster.
Agree deserves remastered
