well you cannot compare it to ppl that do content about games and other stuff, there is much less audience for synths, loopop is actually one of the biggest synth channels or do you know about synth related channel that has milions of subs? Look mum no computer has half a mill and he does content that is somewhat entertaining for people out of synth world, Loopop vids are appealing only to people who are into synths / production etc.
@@sssncodesstuff3364 true, it's just a shame because he's so thorough and professional, I never buy anything before watching a loopop video / review about it first.
Legend! I bought an MPC Live 2 a year ago. Amazed at the capabilities but couldn't get my head around the workflow. Now I understand. I think watching your review will be my start point for any new gear from now on.
I love my MPC One. It is exactly what I wanted. I love the size and the layout of the pads and buttons. Yet the MPC X might be in the future for me, but the MPC One does everything. I have loaded new expansion packs, sampled with it and made music. It is really a great instrument. After watching this video again, I am realizing what a beast this is. There are so many options. Any real instrument has limitations. So if you are looking for limitations you will find some. But if you are looking for an instrument with a great workflow and that really does so much, the MPC One is very awesome.
In regard to the Looper: You actually can add loops live. I have been doing this for awhile now with fairly smooth results using the MPC Live (I assume it is the same for the MPC One, as from what I understand it basically uses the same firmware. Process: Play your sequence. It will loop. Go to the looper and record your new loop(s). In my case I have been jamming out guitar parts. Once you have your new loop click the touchscreen "Export". Choose the Program and Pad you want to assign the loop to. Click the "Keep" button. I usually then stop the loop from playing but keep the sequence going only after I double it up from the midi notes screen as I will continue to describe now... I then navigate to the Main screen, make sure I have the correct Drum instrument in context, go to the midi notes screen and play the new loop pad, adding it to my looping sequence. All while the music plays on. I then return to looper and repeat the process. It is a fantastic workflow.
How on earth do you call that a "fantastic workflow"? You literally just went through a HUGE amount of steps. There are MUCH better ways to make a proper live looping workflow.. AKAI is totally clueless when it comes to this.
@@niklassilen4313 do you know any system that let you do that seamlessly? I was thinking the Pioneer Djs1000..or the Blackbox from 1010 music (not sure if thats the name)
A comparison this thorough between the Akai Force 3.0.5 and an MPC and/or the new Maschine + would be amazing. This is hands down the best electronic music gear channel to me man
Fantastic product review! Man - you've covered A LOT of ground in this review! Thorough and complete! Saves users a lot of time searching through the manual! Very much appreciate this!
Thank you for this in-depth video! Proud owner of MPC One. This video is reallty helping people decide if this is right for them. More power to your channel!
Superb review, having bought the Live 2 second hand and watching a load of well known MPC channels, I learned a lot just from this one great review that's over 2 years old ! Didn't know you could automate pad mutes and lots of other stuff - excellent ! The MPC is a dream come true for me having had an old Yamaha A3000 - it was great, but loading and saving samples was painfully slow and unreliable, it's great to get back to sampling with the new generation of samplers, the sky is the limit, I must say hat's off to Akai, this thing rocks ! Thanks for the informative review too !
Thanks so much for this, late to the party but ordered one today, this will save me from my buying mistakes, I can now sell a number of items I purchased to do what this alone can do, the sampling element is huge for me, this is why I became a patreon, i just saved a ton of time and money. Thank you and keep us fascinated.
I love your in-depth videos on all of the products you've reviewed and tutorial'd. Best on the web. Thanks for these. Yes, on a MPC One sound design video.
Thank. you. I'm jut 13 minutes into your video and I'm not bored, you're really sharing all about the studio one that has me curious now. I just purchased the MPC Studio one last Friday and I've been waiting for a couple of years to get it...finances weren't quite available for me, but now I have it and I'm ready to jump in, learn create and produce. Love the touch screen and the granular control for sensitivity and built-in sounds...finally no more loading sounds and waiting forever and a day to get what you want. I lost so much inspiration with the older MPC Studio. Thanks for the clear concise explanations. Keep making relevant videos!
One of the best review videos I’ve seen on RUclips - excellent work. Love the structured approach and times down the side. The unit itself looks great, amazing power and functionality in a fairly compact unit. I prefer the look of this over the higher range models - particularly the hard buttons like the original mpcs. Would be interested to see how it works with network and splice? Keep up the good work!
I’ve been using a Live for about a year now and I know my way around it pretty good. However, after watching your demo of the one I realise I’ve still got a lot to learn. Outstanding review which makes me realise even more what awesome machines these are 👍🏻
Exactly, how long does loopop take between testing to releasing a video? It would take me a life time and I’m sure I wouldn’t have covered half the stuff in this video.
If you love music production but don't want to sit in front of a computer, get one of these. They are amazing. My new go-to recommendation for anyone who wants to make music with hardware.
If you have experience - live or one? I don't really care about more buttons and battery power is much more important. But I'm worried about tough screen - one looks much faster and sensitive.
@@Artek604 I've watched a stack of reviews and no one else mentioned anything about the screens being different. Akai has said multiple times the screens are identical. I have a Live (bought it last week) and the screen is very responsive. I generally hate touch but I don't mind it at all on the Live.
Best review of One so far! Yes, I'd be definitely interested in at least a walk through of the synths. Also, if possible, I'd love to see comparison of touchscreen sensitivity here vs. Live - One seems very smooth and quick, unlike most of videos I've seen for Live.
As always great overview of this machine, would love to see a deep dive into sound design. This video has really helped me unlock the potential of my MPC One!
Finally review which gives an idea how much of potential this akai os has regarding style I'm into which is this glitchy / idm type stuff. Automation record, track mutes automation, sample edit options look very promising. Cannot wait until it's available in EU. Kind of worried about what happens with my digitakt, machinedrum, mpc1000 then... Totally agree with your q-link suggestions. Hope they add macro knob functionality and metronome into headphones feature.
Awesome video. Watching this again carefully awaiting my first MPC, the Key 61. Usually just listen to your videos for a review, but now it is serving as valuable instruction. Thanks!
If you put the speed on 0,75 (because loopop speaks way too fast for my brain to compute everything) it´s actually a great tutorial on how to use the MPC! And I did look a lot of videos.. Well done !
Thanks for the great tip, I will try that for this, and other videos when needed. Generally, I like fast moving presentations/speech, because it better matches, my brains speed of comprehension. That keeps my ADD from kicking in. But sometimes, when the material is too dense, or involves too many concepts I am not familiar with, or... I want to follow along, doing what he is doing, slower speed would be helpful. Now I know a tool for doing that. Have a great day!
As of 7/30/2020 guitar center has over 100 in stock ready to ship, in case anyone needed to know. I ordered one Tuesday 7/28 and it’s arriving today. Thanks for the amazing in-depth tutorial loopop!
Great walkthrough!!! I've owned the roland mc 909 and korg emx 1 so the akai mpc one was virgin territory, being I never used any kind of software. Your break down really helped me jumped into this. I know the items I have owned in the past are considered "groove boxes", the mpc one has alot higher learning curve. That said, this video tremendously helped me get going. Thank you so much
If this thing's anything like the MPC Live and X, you should ALWAYS store your projects on removable storage, never on the built in storage. Just like a cellphone, these things can start to work all weird if their internal storage gets full. Thanks for another great video, Loopop.
I make Metal and symphony. I alwaqys used daws and analog stuff.. First time I saw this unit I seen something that can be faster and more compact then a laptop. I was always against making music like this, but now im desperate.. This is the only solution. I cant fight it anymore. From hating to loving stuff like that! WOW! This is LOVE!!!! Great review.
Man, I was looking at the One since a friend bought a Force and he *really* likes it, and BAM! you already did a review of the One (and the Force) about *a year ago* lol!!... and not a 10-20 minute thing either, a full blown one hour in depth with comparison, workflow, sounds and indexed just in case. Imho, this is the best synth review/tutorial channel on all YT bar none. Congrats and keep it up!!
btw, how about a walk-thru video of your studio? I mean, when you've seen and reviewed quite a few devices and explored them inside out, what have you decided to keep and make it part of your studio and why? The Burg and Martin videos were amazing but for us you are just more familiar with the 'Hi' at the beginning and all that so, idk just a thought/wish kinda thing. Stay safe!
I have the MPC Live and this video was super helpful!! I still like having the Live and use it on my lap with headphones. Maybe I should buy One for my studio to use with my eurorack and synths.. Thanks Loopop!
Outstanding video introduction to the MPC One. I'm looking at this, an Akai Force and the MC707. Your videos are invaluable even in preparation for effectively testing the product in store. My frontrunner so far is the Force but it really isn't an easy decision. But thanks for helping make a more informed decision.
My One finally arrived! Now I can sit down with it and follow your excellent tutorial. I'm embarking on an experiment - instead of the linear "recording to tape" paradigm I've been using for the last 40 years, I'm going to record acoustic instruments and hardware synths into tracks and samples and assemble them like Lego! :D
I looked at all the mps"s and went for the Mpc One in the end as it has a logical layout. Still not even powered it up yet but I am sure I will need to upgrade the software.. Many thanks for all your videos, the explanation and production is always to the highest standard..
I have no idea what your background is or what your current age could be, I cannot wrap my mind around how you learn these instruments the way you do. Every single time one of your reviews convince me to buy a new instrument, it takes some serious effort on my part to grasp it! And even then, I have a long way to go!
i think that feature just sold me...i have a Novation Bass Station II and have been trying to make Multi Sample sets to get it to be polyphonic using a Roland XR. i bashed my head trying to do it and i still can't figure it out. i need that feature now.
And a BIG YES PLEASE from me for the sound design video...On the brink of getting one of these (if it's available here in the UK) but would really appreciate a tutorial on sound design features. I have watched this video three times now and you have convinced me that this is the way to go, so any further help/inspiration would be most welcome. As ever an amazing job! Thank you.
Great review. This thing looks incredible, especially as you can pick one up mint, second hand for around the 500 GBP mark now. I really want to be DAWless as much as possible, and I had a Digitakt for a while, but really, this just seems to absolutely _murder_ that in terms of features and ease of use, for basically the same price. Very excited to get one, as it really seems to have almost everything.
A video where you use this machine to control other hardware synths via 5 pin midi would be really nice. I am considering this to use in a live setting, and I am still not sure if this is «it».
@Selahl Tapes Yeah, it's been great! The new Drumsynth is super awesome, too! Although if you can afford it perhaps consider getting the Live Mk2 instead? I often regret not having battery power and speaker. I only have very limited time for music making and don't have "fixed" studio space, so when I have to hook up the power cord, find headphones, etc. then I sometimes just give up and will watch YT (or post on KvR...) instead :D
I've just picked one of these up second hand, still under warranty, for £350. !!!! I'm along term Deluge user, so the workflow here is completely different - it'll take me a long time to figure this things workflow. But, that was some of the best money I've ever spent- this thing is an absolute beast. The potential that lies within it is mind boggling (although the Deluge is surprisingly vast too!). Paired together, I can't imagine I'll want anything else!
Thanks for this brilliantly succinct and engaging round-up. I have a couple of questions: (a) Is there sufficient gain on the (line level?) sample inputs to cope with a regular vocal microphone, and (b) Did you notice any latency/timing issues when using MIDI and audio tracks in combination? What I'm looking for is a frustration-free scratch pad for quickly getting down song ideas, and I'm hoping the MPC One might be the answer.
Question: I was a little too hasty plugging the SD-card into the One without thinking properly about folder structuring and keeping things neatly organized. Now 10 tracks deep I'm wondering; each project creates a project file and then a folder with all the samples (etc) you've used within that project. After saving a project, will it stream the samples from that folder always or will it stream the original files from the original source I got them from on the SD-card? I want to clean up that SD-card, rename folders etc but I'm worried I'll mess up all my projects if I do.
One of my older brothers works at Akai, and while he can't tell me much, I do know that the team they've got there really does care about what they're doing and ARE actually trying to make good stuff. There's a lot of spirit in these boxes, and for all their shortcomings (and there are... many...) I think the features, price point, and very consistent (if sometimes opaque) support makes them worth it. I don't own one yet, as there are a few key features I'd need to see come in, but they're /near/ perfect. Not quite there yet, but damn close. True Multitimbral MIDI, disk streaming/external I/O connections (which are entirely possible on the motherboards they use, I promise), and some other small fixes would make these not only the best generation of MPC, but maybe the best hardware samplers/workstations ever made. Might be hyperbole, but I do think they have that potential. EDIT: I'm gonna also add that if you're the kind of person who wants to use an MPC in a band situation or for controlling a few pieces of hardware, take a look at the 1000 w/ JJOS. JJ has made some things with midi and audio possible on a 17yo machine that Akai still hasn't been able to master, and while the raw power isn't anywhere near these newer MPCs, the value of the 1ks on stages is almost unrivaled. Anyway, lovely video! Still not looking to own any (though if the One drops in price I may not be able to resist), but I can see why people jumped on them. Also, Zev: See if Elektron will send you an ARmkII? Your review depth and style would do that box a lotta good, since the content out there on it hasn't really been updated to showcase all of the features it's gotten since release.
Good call with the 1000 w JJOS for live. I believe you can do multitimbral midi but I remember it being limited in some way...And great to hear that disk streaming IS in fact possible at least. Waiting PATIENTLY for it so I can get rid of the Octatrack because right now I just use that to play back stems and to use as a live digital mixer.
The autosampler function looks amazing! I was wondering though: I read that you can import your projects from the MPC to Ableton, does anyone know what file format the multisamples are stored as? Cheers
Great video. I learned a lot about MPC OS. But if I were in the market for a modern MPC, I would definitely get the Live over an MPC One. I'll gladly pay $300 more for 2 midi inputs and 2 outputs, 6 1/4 outputs, rca inputs with ground and phone/line switch, full size pads, 10gb sound library, ability to add a hard drive, 16gb storage, rechargeable battery. I dont need the cv outputs. I dont care about it having less hardware buttons. But this MPC One a great deal for anyone who doesnt need the aforementioned. $700 is a steal for all that you get.
Got one ...thinking,this is the central hub for my studio liveset,up...wat a box of tricks...happy as always with the superclear vid!!!!thanx man...greets from Holland!!!

I have the MPC Live and this video was super helpful!! I still like having the Live and use it on my lap with headphones. Maybe I should buy One for my studio to use with my eurorack and synths.. Thanks Loopop!
you definitely deserve more subscribers. Each video you release is a pleasure to watch.
I really like how you create tutorials! 😃 Well organized and informative! Thanks a lot! 🙏
So how did that work out for you? How are you working these days?
I looked at all the mps"s and went for the Mpc One in the end as it has a logical layout.
Still not even powered it up yet but I am sure I will need to upgrade the software..
Many thanks for all your videos,
the explanation and production is always to the highest standard..
Saint Loopop, patron saint of electronic music worshipers. Amen (break)
Yes!!!! Can’t wait to dig in to this !!!!!! Mine arrives tomorrow!!!! Thank you!!!!
Bless you for using a rock or soul sounding drum example. Great demo.
I have no idea what your background is or what your current age could be, I cannot wrap my mind around how you learn these instruments the way you do. Every single time one of your reviews convince me to buy a new instrument, it takes some serious effort on my part to grasp it! And even then, I have a long way to go!
omg! the creation of keygroups is just crazy! espesially would be fun to create keygroups with modular :)
How do you load keygroups do you need a keyboard?
Finally with the new update, u can connect audio interfaces to have more inputs, tested that with the focusrite products and they worked like a charm.
Definitely keen to see all that the MPC 1 can offer re sound design possibilities. Good work btw (yet again).
Thanks for this in depth look. I've got one order and am just waiting for them to get back in stock. Stoked!
The Auto Multi Sampler is a great idea, this is a feature on some Yamaha Montages too. The Akai is a well specced unit, without doubt
i think that feature just sold me...i have a Novation Bass Station II and have been trying to make Multi Sample sets to get it to be polyphonic using a Roland XR. i bashed my head trying to do it and i still can't figure it out. i need that feature now.
Picked up a live 2 for that price brand new.
@@blacklanton from where? its 1200 bucks everywhere lol
@@uwu-ul1qp got it here in the Uk from a shop called apc. It was meant to be second hand but the box was sealed and the mpc was still sealed.
@@blacklanton well thats sketchy
@@uwu-ul1qp regardless I’m happy with it
I have a live and am trying to figure out navigating it. I watched this and it helped me a lot!!!
A video where you use this machine to control other hardware synths via 5 pin midi would be really nice. I am considering this to use in a live setting, and I am still not sure if this is «it».
This guy is the best at what he does
I’m having this for sure:D thanks for another amazing review
One of the best MPC ONE videos I've seen!
This review probably sold more MPC Ones than AKAI's marketing did. I know it did for me
@Selahl Tapes Yeah, it's been great!
On average, how much time do you spend learning about each product you review?
enough to teach us about everything!!
Rumor has it, Loopop just smells the instrument once and understands it fully.
@@Jamslerr I was told he has a midi port, and it's just plug-n-play..
About a week on average...
@@loopop That's quite an effort
Thank you for taking the time to make this video
Thanks for this brilliantly succinct and engaging round-up. I have a couple of questions: (a) Is there sufficient gain on the (line level?) sample inputs to cope with a regular vocal microphone, and (b) Did you notice any latency/timing issues when using MIDI and audio tracks in combination? What I'm looking for is a frustration-free scratch pad for quickly getting down song ideas, and I'm hoping the MPC One might be the answer.
Just another person saying, thank you for the immensely helpful video! I'm excited to make music without a computer.
Amazing review, I have the Live... love it but you make me want to buy everything! 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for doing this tutorial. I have a One on the way and it will definitely help
@@memorysticky7581 Yeah man, that makes sense.
I am sooo tempted to get this
Auto sample is an amazing feature!
Adding my vote for the MPC sound design video please :)
my mpc one arrives tomorrow. watched this at least 4 times.
How u like it so far? I'm torn between this and the MPC Live 2.
amazing review. loopop is one of the best reviewers i have ever seen
Timing couldn’t be any more perfect!!
Much thanks loopop - mine arrived and it's my first MPC, so this is appreciated!
Thanks very much! I do want to get to AR mk2 at some point for sure
I come back to this daily
The autosampler function looks amazing! I was wondering though: I read that you can import your projects from the MPC to Ableton, does anyone know what file format the multisamples are stored as? Cheers
There’s a plug in included that you can load up in ableton to make the workflow between using the mpc standalone or in the daw pretty much seamless.

Very thorough review and well paraphrased at the end. Thank you for this content. Very good work.
How much the one?
Holy crap bro. I just got an MPC One and this is literally a life saver. Thank you so much!!
Welcome to the addiction.
@@awjaaa I see no lies. Thank you!
22:20 yay polyphonic Neutron! (when my One arrives)
iqi616 imagine what you could do with a Matrixbrute...
Agreed the sequencer through matrix is like wow
auto sample sold me, was actually considering a MC707 which is lightyears away concering sampling power + it's unusable mini screen.
Got one ...thinking,this is the central hub for my studio liveset,up...wat a box of tricks...happy as always with the superclear vid!!!!thanx man...greets from Holland!!!
