Fun fact : In the comics , Slade beat up Beast Boy and put him in a coma , and it was left very clear that the sole reason why Beast Boy wasn’t waking up was because his ass got beat up so bad by Slade that he thought he was DEAD
The fact that Slade is the toned-down version of his comic version is insane. Shot Impulse (the 2nd Kid Flash) in the knee with a shot gun, point-blank. His "relationship" with Terra, ugh. Forced his daughter to be high on pills and to prove her loyalty by having her gouge out her own eye to be "Just Like Daddy". Slade Wilson is a DEMON.

As a child, I didn’t have the capacity to understand the character depth of Slade, but as an adult, it’s hard not to. For a cartoon geared towards children, the writers did a good job of making him menacing and threatening without making him gritty and pulpy. He was a master manipulator and a truly cunning intellectual. Seeing him pulling the strings from the shadows reminds me of Kingpin or Tombstone
To make Slade even more of a fucking lunatic is when you realize that his NAME is Slade. Not his nickname. His name, via birth, is Slade Wilson. He gave this kid his first name and it's still brutal enough for it to sound like a supervillain.
Plus, his supervillain name (Deathstroke) was a bit too hardcore for a kid's show!

I think one reason I love Slade as a villain is because he manage to achieve so much in the series as a regular human. Slade is manipulative, cunning, intelligent, master of martial artists and athletic. Another thing that made him stand out in the series was how he saw potential in his pupils while most villain's just kill them for the dumbest reasons.

Yeah, normal in the show. In the comics, he's a super-soldier-serum-injected ex-soldier turned merc. Slight side effect? Serum amped him but tweaked his mind until he was insane.
tbh He's beyond a regular human at this point in the series. his intelligence, Durability, Speed and the fights he had against the Titans just says it all. that he's around Peak human or low superhuman with a gifted mind.
Heck, that dust he stored on his mask that made Robin see him psychologically and getting beaten to the brek of death is very unique and scary. It's very similar to that of Scarecrow's fear gas but very ampt.

His "Wolverine-lite" healing factor is only really something that kicks in between issues so Deathstroke can keep coming back for more. The serum only amped his base form slightly. The main takeaway from it was the healing factor.
Slade is the kind of villain that could run fades with the Justice League, yet man's going after the Cub Scouts division.

Still, the game is a far cry from what was in the books. More akin to a God of War clone rather then a journey of introspect and spiritual discovery.
In a few comics, Tara apparently went evil and basically killed all heroes and destroyed the world. But to know a dimension/story exists where Slade was able to manipulate her? That’s truly terrifying. Real power does not simply equate to how much destruction one is capable of, not simply brute force or the ability to cause harm to others, but the manipulation and subtle control of someone else’ fate? That’s 6 D chess manipulation.

Slade was literally just marking a list for every major character in the show. Dude messed with Robin, Raven, Beast Boy and Terra. I swear they ended the show cause they were too afraid of having him mess with Cyborg and Starfire. They thought ''this is too much, we have to stop this man before he gives the rest of the Titans freaking PTSD''.

I didn't realize that Slade used Scarecrow's fear gas on that haunting episode. I just thought Slade put that much psychological trauma on this man to a point of driving Robin insane like that, but in a way he did, and the gas just amplified the trauma even more.

Wolfman/Perez’s run of Teen Titans and Deathstroke was overall wild and gives the audience insight into why he’s willing to harass a bunch of children. You can definitely see the writers taking inspiration from them, but definitely dehumanizing his character which is upsetting.
So for anyone who doesn’t know, Slade is a military veteran who fought in Korea and Vietnam who was discharged and got powers because he agreed to try a (anti?) truth serum. He feels guilt over his new job (mercenary aka Deathstroke) causing his youngest, Joe, to be kidnapped and then had his vocal cords sliced making him mute. Adeline, his wife, then shoots him in the eye and divorces him. His older son Grant, who was a boarding school the entire time, thinks Deathstroke (doesn’t know that’s Slade) is cool and after the TT beat him up because he was being questionable with a woman he becomes Ravenger and takes a job with The Hive to defeat the Teen Titans. He fails, gets himself killed, dies in his father’s arms, and Slade then inherits the contract out of vengeance.
He eventually teams up with a few other parents of the Titans to get them back when Joe, who becomes a Titan, gets taken over by basically Raven’s powers and is forced to kill his own son who is begging for death.
Rose is a bastard child and really doesn’t get much time in the comics, and he basically leaves her in his only friend’s care after realizing he’s toxic. That eye stuff is very much a different writer.
Also Tara, the two writers Wolfman and Perez of Judas Contract, have two different interpretations of how far Slade went. Wolfman, who went on to write the Deathstroke comics, had Slade’s best friend basically say “I thought you manipulating [Tara] was bad, but at least you never tried to sleep with her” when Slade was about to sleep with an underaged girl who was being pimped out by her dad, though Slade picked up the queues and walked away before anything happened.
I would like to point out in the comics. Tara Markov was a sociopath. That was the only intention for her. She was pure evil in a cute facade. That was the whole point. She was a gimmick an ingenious gammock to Mark wolfman.
Problem is they thought under the sexist notion. Oh yeah, girls sleeping with the enemy makes her even more evil. And kind of forgot about the implication. Oh yeah she's underage. That's about it really. I say we should have just forgot about that aspect because it ruins a otherwise pretty decent
So they retconned the SladeXTera thing.....
Not to mention the voice actor who did his voice absolutely killed it. To this day this version of Slade is still one of my all time favorite villain’s from an animated show.

Slade was the most menacing villain of my childhood. He was cunning, actually good at fighting (unlike a lot of "mastermind" characters that are just cowards), and had an amazing voice actor (Ron Pearlman deserves every bit of praise for that portrayal). The early 2000s Teen Titans show was excellent overall. Was a "kids" show but tackled relevant adult themes and topics routinely and in a good manner.
Agreed, I remember witching this show as a kid back in the day. And though it took me years later to figure it out, Slade from 2003 Teen Titans was a different breed of villain.
This polar opposite of a mad man had everything- the skills, the Drip, the ambition, the will to do literally ANYTHING it took to get what he desired, whether it was getting Robin as his apprentice or to simply see the Titans kicked down a peg.
Yeah I'm glad CJ finally gave this man the credit he deserved for nearly a decade now.
Teen titans paid so much respect to Deathstroke as a character cause in the comics he's even more compelling as a villain they definitely went as far as they could with him for it to still be considered a "kid's show".

It's revealed they're royals from Markovia and that their powers are the results of inhumane experimentation. Ultimately, the two decide to leave her alone. All she ever wanted was normalcy. She remembers, but this is her choice.
I read about it a bit. I don’t think it was canceled, that was the actual ending. The ending was a lesson: when you grow up, not everything will have full closure and you just have to move on. Had they made another season and continued on, the lesson would’ve been pointless. They even *knew* the show would only have 5 seasons which adds to the fact that the “lack of an ending” was intentional.

Nah I want the trio. Azula wasn’t alone at her best moment she definitely pulled up with Ty Lee and Mai to jump people. They jumped them multiple times while chasing them, attempted to jump them during the attempted invasion, and would’ve jumped them during the prison break if Mai and Ty Lee hadn’t chosen to protect the GAang.

Assuming Terra actually is alive, he probably found a way to break her out of the stone and wipe her mind, just to torment Beast Boy some more. The man's a menace.
