If you want chat mix to work you need audio through optical cable and chat through USB. So you need splitter of some sort. Doesn't have to be astro branded

surprising to hear that. I found the opposite to be true. at least when comparing 3d vs Dolby. But if you are doing USB only connection, then I prefer 2 ch audio from the astros over 3d audio.
The preferred method is to use the optical connector if sound quality is important to you. If for some reason you can only use the USB method then it is preferred over the controller. Controller should be your very last resort.
Isn’t there an update for the mix amp where u can use all of the presets and Dolby using usb. I’ve been looking into this and people are just updating it on the Astro command center and it’s solving all of their issues
I’m having mic issues ( lagging and cutting out) with my a40s only when it’s connected to the mix amp and it works perfectly fine when it’s connected to the jack of the controller so if there is an update, this can solve my problems
When on usb you lose the Dolby surround. You can only have stereo or Sony's 3d audio. I have tested all 3 sound options and feel mixamp with optical input is currently the best configuration. 3d sound through usb is a good alternative to stereo sound, but it can't beat Dolby sound

If you are considering using mixamp NOT in Dolby mode then usb setup will be fine. I didn't spend any time testing the stereo sound with optical input, but I would say the difference would be very small and not worth the down side

@@GearsAndTech thanks so much. My tv says that only passthrough when connected hdmi arc. It does have an optical output. Could you just let me know if technically it should be a configuration to let the audio pass from the ps5 through the tv in the format less processed by the tv so my mixamp does the magic? Thanks very very helpful all your vids!!
