yo man great vid, I will say I like watching these types of vid so that I don't waste money on tire. But also understand its pricey for you so thank you for doing it.
I’ve felt the same way about “luggy” open, deep treaded tires… great for loose soil, sand, and on jagged rocks with lots of sharp edges to grab. Where as a tighter tread will maintain constant contact and more biting edges on smoother rocks. My favorite tires are the RC4WD gladiators with CI foams, and the Proline KM3’s in predator compound and of course CI foams. And recently picked up some Hyrax’s in predator and some CI foams for them as well. So far they look to be the best mix of both worlds. Little luggy, but tons of biting edges.
I have the Holds on my Ecto and they are the only tire for that truck. My terrain is different than yours is but even on wet slick rock they out performed all the other tires I tried. Honest RC did a good side hill test on loose dirt. There is also a slick rock crawl where there is a V section for the truck to go through also. The Holds get better the more you drive them too.
JC holds are my favorite tire on sandstone here in Oklahoma. They perform in the wet too. Inserts makes a big difference. Mine have a very soft air down effect to distribute the contact patch better and they don’t disappoint
I have a different terrain than you do, mine is large solid granite slabs. I have run a full set of holds but found it to work better with holds on the rear, and tusks on the front. this kind of goes along with my full-size days of running Boggers on the rear and Swamper SX on the front. I know money makes things an issue at times, but if you have the ability to, I suggest trying it out to see if it helps on your terrain as well.
Interesting. Temperature does have an effect on rc crawling. BTW still would like to see an update on your trx4 sport. You haven't made an update in ages
I think it goes without saying, that the Holds are going to be excellent in wet and muddy conditioms so, their performance on the rocks is a bonus! 👍 I do like the green compound on the JConcepts tires. A little less grip then Pro-Lines Predator compound but they don't get as sloppy in the real hot weather. However, yes, they do tend to wear more quickly than other compounds but in keeping with the Predator compound and expected with the kind of grip these provide 👍
I want to like the Toyo RT's... I mounted a set on my Phoenix. With the shorter height they just look right for that build. You're right they ARE very consistent. But they are taking FOREVER to scrub in. I still think there's more to get from these and the G8. But they do leave me wanting more compared to Hyrax or Krawlers. I've got some videos up if you want to check them out.
Love your videos 👍👍 I live in Massachusetts, what tire do you think is the best all around,,, meaning slippery ground, roots ,mud and there is some rocky terrain which also can be slippery ???
I have so many sets of tires that everyone seems to have good luck with that just will not work in my area. Then the otherside is the sets that nobody seems to like that do pretty good in my area. It's a good thing these little tires aren't 300 plus bucks a piece lol.
You have a beautiful place to Crawl I would love to eventually take a trip out West to just see a place like that. Out here in North Carolina where I live in the Eastern part of the State it's more Red Clay and Sand, Roots and very smooth River Rock. I really enjoy watching your videos to see what it's like Crawling in y'all's neck of the woods. 👍🏼
Excellent video man! Been curious about the Holds. Love the Tusk and Ruptures from J Concepts. Jury is still out on the Landmines for me. Haven’t been super impressed so far.
The Holds are an Intreasting Tire, I might have to give them a look as at first glance they look like an awesome dirt and mud tire which is what I usually run in. I'm curious if you've ever tried Duratrax Deepwoods. I think they would be similar or even a bit better than the holds
J con tusks are the best tires hands down in my area. Nothing from proline can hang with them. The krawlers are the only ones that I like but they are not in the same league as the tusks. The holds are a good tire but didn’t work as well as my tusks.
@@KingmanKingman-nb4tn I’ve got both of those tires as well. Landmines we’re my first crawler tire I tried from jconcepts, I loved them. I use my ruptures outside of comping, they work amazing too.
Two thing I wonder if the Holds would scrub in just as well as your Krawlers have in time Also I love the landmines personally in C1 truck but seen the Hunk and tusks do very well C2 size
I have a set of those toyos that came on a used sxc10 3 LJT and they've surprised me quite a bit. Which foams did you use. Theres not many for that size tire.

I feel the Holds will even do better after a break in. But I would still go with the tight tread for slick rock crawling.
I just got full set of holds and hunks trying combinations of tires
Center of gravity difference between the 2 tire sizes will play it part aswell in how they grip on steep climbs

The Toyo tires look awesome on this rig 🤘🏼

The jconcepts holds are great imo. I thought they would be sucky on the rocks too but they blew my mind!

Same for my area. Im in maine. Its wet cold and mossy.
I’m wanting to make this build with my scx10
Once you scrub in those holds, it'll be interesting to see them go up against the bgf krawlers.

Nice test. I recently put tsl sx on my bronco 3.... great tire.
Cool review just got to Utah heading to Dixie rocks to do some crawling. Stay safe

You like the Krawler better than the Hyrax? Which compound? G8? Predator?

Have you ever tried rock pit bull rock beasts? When I was down there last time they worked really well.
The Proline TSL Super Swampers tires are my only go to here in Tennessee. My second choice is always Proline Krawlers.
Cant beat them swampers
Hi I am waiting for an axial cj7 that tires would advise me.thank you very much bro
If those was hit with simple green and ran a little more.. where they can get broken in they might do really good🤷♂️
What shocks do you run?
Is every tire j concepts sell a unlicensed copy? They very 6ogger ish. The lugs look to super a swamped
It must have been twenty years ago, people were just starting to use Boggers for rock crawling. What's old is new again.
You need to run them backwards on smooth rock
this only makes since the more tire surface area works better on the smooth rocks!

Crawler Innovation dual stage
@@bsfunk44 I heard that part. Was wondering which ones specifically since they're sizing is either 4.19 or 4.75 and the toyos are 4.45x1.5
imagine running a mud tyre on rocks xDDD u rly connected the dots
All bad those Jay concept tires would work very well up here in Alaska
The Holds are not good at all.. for a trail truck maybe but I wasn't impressed with mine.
Running Ruptures and Tusks now.
