- We'll be showing you the process of painting four doors made from a variety of materials from start to finish. Learn how to give your doors a smooth automobile-like finish using an airless paint sprayer. I found an excellent paint product for the job which is durable and wont eliminate the fine grain on the doors.

Totally agree ! I've sprayed three sets of cabinets with this product so far and I love it. Amazingly quick dry time, with a beautiful smooth finish. Perfect alternative to laquer.
It looks like you are living your dream and for that I’m super happy for you! Thank you for sharing!
Always loved the 3m advanced masking, it just sticks to the windows itself and then I can just work my way around with tape.
This is awesome, the Idaho painter and his crews are phenomenal, I've been painting over 22 years myself and I've made some mistakes afew times in my career, first time I sprayed doors I sagged them big time, well instead of leaving it alone and wet sanding my sags out with a rubber block the next day, I freaked out and grabbed a 6 inch half inch nap weenie roller and for one , put firballs in the doors plus stipple, huge mistake. I never repeated that again. Idaho painter is super pro.
I just painted 8 doors using the brackets you suggested. It was the best. Thanks for the awesome tip. They look great.
Break through is an awesome product. Used it on my vinyl windows 5 years ago and still looks brand new.
Good to hear! Thanks for sharing🤙
I had to make a cabinet panel a week after a cabinet reface was done at a customers home. Pittsburgh paints is where I found Breakthrough paint. They asked me if I worked for the cabinet reface shop because they were the only ones that use breakthrough paint, they said it’s all they use for cabinets. When I sprayed it on I was super impressed. I don’t spray every day but I do spray projects like once a month to every other month. I can remember laughing after using this paint because I thought it laid out so nice that even a toddler could have good results with it! 😀
I use a Clean Shot Swivel Extension Adapter when using a gun extension to eliminate the back pressure squirts.
They're awesome!
Striving for perfection! Thanks 👍
Breakthrough is all I use painting furniture... Awesome paint.
Awesome again👍👍👍 Thank you Chris!
They look awesome!
Great vid as usual. Keep em coming.
Your videos are getting better and better. Keep it up. 👍
Thank you, thank you! I’m looking for a paint to paint my kitchen cabinets. I’m not a professional and since I don’t have the experience I don’t want to purchase or use a HVLP. I was wavering between buying a Wagner or the Titan airless sprayer. And you just helped me decide, not only on the Titan 410, but also on the PPG paint. Thanks again for your video(s) content!
you can spray break through in an hvlp easy its very watery.
A titan 410 is a hell of a sprayer for a DIY project. A graco magnum line is a fraction of the cost and plenty effective.
Breakthrough is good paint. It seem super easy to work with.
Thank you for your time.
Thanks for sharing this
Video,very interesting.👍
Very helpful Chris!
Wish I know this paint 2 weeks ago. Great vid
Liked the video people need more videos on types of paints were to use on different surefaces good job
The angry Emerald i
Very professional 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Is there another video in which you show how to get the masking off? Just wondering if you cut it with a blade to prevent the paint from tearing.
Hi Chris, love your videos. I have four interior doors to paint and thinking of using a Graco Magnum X5 sprayer (my DIY budget limit). Wondering how much paint I might need for those 4 doors. I've also read that the PPG Breakthrough yellows after a while, and wondering whether you've experienced this. I'll have 3-5 more doors to do in the future as well. Thanks!
Bad ass clean result!!!
Excellent informative vlog.... Good Job..
I work in a paint store during the day and paint new construction and commercial at night up here in British Columbia. Just discovered this channel, Really enjoying seeing what equipment and tools other guys are using in the rest of the world. Checked out your online store too, great tools and the pricing is good. I see a lot of new products come and go, but it's nice to see a selection of quality products geared for pros, tested by pros. Thanks for the remarkably entertaining vids. Subbed.
Thank you for taking the time to share🤙
@@Idahopainter do you ever caulk between the baseboard and the stained hardwood floor in new residential homes? Thank you for the response.
thanks for the tip of standing the doors up with the brackets. I was going to make it way harder than I needed too.
Glad I could help!
Do you ever use the stack racks for doors. 4 triangles for each door , you can flip door on floor and stack one on top of other when sprayed. Very handy.
Quick question How do you go about cleaning paint off, for example your car seat or inside door panels I don’t want to test any solvent and risk further damage or spread...???
Do you have a problem with the door weather stripping adhering to the newly painted door, especially if the door doesn't get used often?
Also when you spray outside you wanna make sure the wind isn't blowing over 10mph cause the over spray can travel up to a mile. I mention that cause when you was spraying the door I was watching where your over spray was traveling. Also that PPG paint sounds pretty good. I have used PPG paints before just not that one. I would definitely give it a shot. For doors like that I've used Emerald and I like using a 311 tip to spray trim and doors. That's just the way I like to do it. I figure a 6 inch fan is good cause of less over spray. Great job as always.
310 works just sprayed a thicker paint and worked
Super Spec Benjamin Moore is thin and works really good.
I’m the painter for 11 years and every time that I see videos for you I always learn something different there for me and I think you are the best painter in the world
Nestor Mejia 😂😂😂 yeah ok! ....
Can I get a link for those steel door hangers please? I can't find them on the same site as the rest of the items listed. This video was very informative thanks.
Ppg breakthrough is an amazing product, drys very fast and hard as a rock! I personally like to use a 208 tip as it runs VERY easily!
Nice work!
Great job lads! Just did something similar in Brisbane
nice
Do you have a video explaining how to use an airless sprayer? And the difference between leading brand sprayers. (Wagner, Titan, graco, etc)
wow, so many steps to paint a door! sure they look good though
marcelguarachi perfection takes time!! 😉😉
The green hose what brand is it ? Is it special looks more flexible
Exelent job
2 cor 4 7-10 love it , GOD bless you bro
👍
Great Video! What is an injection card? In case you get injected with what?
Your videos are awesome thanks for sharing the trade knowledge with us DYI Neanderthals.
hi chris i have a question i know you are good at answering your coments how long should it take 1 person to paint a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment ceiling is flat white walls eggshell gosner veil bathroom and laundry rooms are semi gloss white on cieling and semi gloss gossner veil on walls all trim is semi gloss white also how long on 2 bedroom 2 bathroom same paint scheem i have a sprayer 9 inch rollers and brushes thanks in advance
awesome video Chris! I just did my first batch of doors on a new build and confused low pressure tips with Fine finishing tips. WHOOPS!
Cleaning the doors was something I could have done as well.
What do you do about the hinge mortices? Do you mask them?
I like your shoes. Didn't see them listed in the tools used on this job section. lol :)
*👍🏻💥 I didn't know about the Frog tape,* Thanks for sharing, Merry Christmas, by for now Ken,
Same to you!
What type of sneakers you wear they look very comfy.
Good job
Just gotta make a comment, i bought one of the whip hoses and i have to say all you guys watching this need to get one, their so flexible they make gun control so easy, its like your guns not actually attached to anything, sprayed whole 4bed house woodwork out in 2hrs including prep, its just so natural your not fighting the hose like you normally would be, so good i got another because we just cant get whips like this in uk
Thank you for sharing and I glad you are liking it🤙
Could you please show the whole spraying process every time, we love to see the paint go on and it allows us to better understand the technique, maybe some slow-mo too. Also, could we get a long closeup of the product used every time.
Love watching your videos, we need to get you to 1 Million subscribers
How did you prop the doors up to paint them?
home depot sell PPG Timeless. Is this comparable to PPG Breakthrough?
I did not find a link for the paint used.
I also noticed that you did not mention and apply primer. When would you need to use a primer?
Thanks for making the video!
Thank you for all your videos....one question, How much could a job like this cost? per door... thank you very much.
just wandering, in your opinion, what`s the difference between that paint and laquer from the pros and cons side, i notice in other videos you use laquers for durability and fast drying, why not on those doors?
Surprised the doors aren't elevated a bit off the ground?
How do you clean up the bottom edges?
Can you spray left to right...seen people do that top bottom what's the difference
How do you store the sprayer over night to paint next day Graco x7
Do you mask the hinge mortises?
How did you spray the bottom edge of the doors?
3inch angle knife works great for clean tape cuts
Have you use Alkyd behr pure white ?
❤❤❤BREAKTHROUGH 💥😁👍🏻💯
Expensive paint job
OK
Did you have to thin the paint down in order to use the 410 tip
You could also use 12 inch masking paper instead of 3m plastic. 2 bucks a roll vs 12. Also it's going on a window so frog tape wouldn't be necessary on this project. If anything bleeds though which shouldnt since tape sticks very well to a window just take a window scraper and clean up the edges. Otherwise nice job.
Make a video about how to add a pressure gauge to a titan 440, it’s super cheap and helps a ton
Do you need to use a different primer if the doors are solid wood and have a dark stain on them, I want white as they are so dark they make the hall feel like a cave.
Hi are you using acrylic paint when you spraying doors
This was informative.. I did my room door once just using normal brush.. Where I can this spring machine and can I use it for the walls as well.
RedFox rent one in your local HD
What type of paint did you use on these doors
How long did the whole process from start to finish take?
My dad got injected (self inflicted of course) and had to go to the ER. It was a mess because it was drying in there and had scattered. They got it all but it wasn't exactly pleasant and the doctor told him had he waited any longer he could have lost his leg.
I prefer to use a Titan Capspray HVLP to spray doors if it's only like two doors. Although painting takes a little more time with the HVLP fine finish sprayer, cleanup with the HVLP takes way less time than an airless... Less time cleanup = more $$$
Satin acrylic self levels right ?
Any idea what it cost to spray a wood door in Chicago Illinois
I see they have air assisted sprayers, and you get a much finer finish, perhaps you should do some videos on one of them
Does the paint work on bare metal?
Its a shame but we don't have professional painters like you in Florida where I live. No quality, no pride in their work. Just speed and go! And want their money for crapy job! Thanks for video, I suspect to get a goid quality paint job around here there will be more DIY painters because of your videos!
How much do you spend on tape and paper in a years time?
Hey Chris, I am starting to adopt a lot of your prep work techniques after years of what I call “ego painting”. 😊 The people that taught me the trade had the philosophy that masking was a no no, etc.
I have found that by taking these extra prepping steps I don’t end up “wasting time” as my teachers said and the end result is MUCH better and of course the customer is very happy.
The time I spend prepping i get back plus some in being able to work a little faster by not worrying about getting paint on trim or glass, etc. However, to anyone reading this please note that you must calculate the prep material into your bid. Its not much but its good business practice so that you / we aren’t losing money. Also I have learned that when the customer see you / us doing this they have a greater sense of confidence in the work.
Awesome thank you for sharing🤙
Thanks for your support
@@Idahopainter one last thing. I picked up one of those 3M maskers and LOVE IT! Ironically it was given to me by the guy who taught me to paint 30 yrs ago. He said..... yeah I picked it up on clearance and never used it. 😂🤣
Tip when putting tape on Windows use your 5in one tool tu cut the tape put the tip of the fiveone at an angle and pull your tape sideways and you will always get a clean cut
I'm viwer number 7:-):-)
Every time I shoot a door out in the open bugs are on it immediately
They make an additive you can box into the paint to repel bugs. Also, I've had some success spraying doors and such outside during the early spring months when the bugs are still dead from the winter.
Use sherwin Williams Solo, drys super quick
Florida?
I immediately thought about small flies/bugs etc
I recommend My Lord Berry the liquid masking h20 on windows glass easy and fast
Wondering if you can use this product to go over varnished wood trim without priming with zinnser first...
always sand and prime unless its something your walking away from forever. it also doesnt hold back tannins unless its black lol
what do you think about sherwin williams pro classic for doors and cabinets?
Not a fan
All of my cabinet and WOOD door jobs have been with old school oil paint (Sherwin Williams) that takes about a week to paint. (oil based primer + two layers...) How much sturdier is this acrylic than the oil paint that I am using?
Ppg breakthrough is rated for foot traffic on concrete so its extremely durable. Dries in about 15 min so recoat times are short. Does adhere to oil based coatings as well as ppg advantage 900 which is similar but takes longer to dry and cheaper. If you're not spraying I'd go with the advantage 900
Could you please make a short video on how do you stand the doors upright like this? What do you use to stand them please?
Screw pieces of wood to the bottom of the doors. We call them feet just about a foot long 3inches wide. Screw to the bottom and they'll stand up for you. No worries.
What state do you work in?
Ppg👍🏻💥 Thank you for sharing didn't know about this either
Happy to help
Curious about the card you had in your pocket while you were spraying.?what is it?
The injection card will tell the paramedics some details about the job you were doing or what exactly is it and where can you find those.
Google injection injuries they're gross
Excuse me . For those Doors aproximaly how much do you charge .
Would you recommend Breakthrough on kitchen cabinetry
Ed Conrad I use Breakthrough personally on Cabinets all the time. The product has quite a learning curve, very thin and likes to run, and very short open time window, less than a minute in some cases. So I would definitely experiment with it before going all in.
Big question, we’ve have some issues with bugs landing on the doors and wrecking the finish what do you do to stop this?
anthony little best tip don’t touch them let it dry withe paint and brush them off when dry. Most of them will come clean.
Looks nice! Quick question though, When I have sprayed doors I have had to wait at least a day before moving them to install because even with clean gloves on it can leave fingerprint blemishes on the paint before it cures. How do you not leave those blemishes in such short dry time?

@@trackhoecaves92 Thanks! I don't know how I missed that.
When you were taping up the weather strip, the frog tape sounded like a frog as you were running the tape off 😆
lol
