    Thanks for making these videos. I keep a pen and paper handy to jot down all the tips. Only thing I would add to that system would be to spray the smaller doors first. Putting wider doors over the smaller limits the amount of overspray that could get on the doors you’ve already done. Great use of a small space!

    Great videos! I do it very similar. I like to use the zig zag method. Using 5 gallon paint sticks cut in half and nailing them on top similar to what you do but connecting them on the top edges of each door.

    I do doors like this quite a bit! Try out door-deckers if you get a chance. Super small footprint and you can do a TON of doors. Also, it's impossible to sag them out so you can get 1 coat coverage fairly easy.

    Great video. To hell with the negative comments on here. But ask you’re local paint rep about some “fine finish, low pressure” tips for doors and trim. They double atomize the paint, making (the paint) finer and less granular. He may Comp you one, see how you like it. Graco makes them. Keep up the great videos man

    Stand doors in a row end to end stagger nailing a board on top like a X connecting each in rows of 5. Or more like a zigzag.
    You can two coat without moving.

  • @Drew_Peacock
    @Drew_Peacock 7 лет назад +9

    Hey man, I know a lot of people are talking trash about the tip, but just keep on learning! I bet all of those trash talkers learned by trial too. Seriously though, you should check out the fine finish tips and tip housing. They have a blue guard instead of the orange and come with green tips. They are nice with a second filtration in the tip, and they come in smaller sizes. I personally like a 315 or 415 for doors, and I get all that from Sherwin Williams.

  • @ferznator

    I place them in angle like making a V with enough space to walk, i painted 18 doors in a one car garage, 2 coats, i sanded the sides really well and pray them very careful, it may be easier to roll them, some needed 2 coats of primer 2 coats of paint, did the painting same day, not bragging, actually stole that idea from some other video here in youtube, i do not use extensions for my gun, but that's just optional, great job, i enjoy your wood working videos too

  • @risepainting395
    @risepainting395 7 лет назад +36

    That tip is massive! 515? Try going down to a 310 or 410 at the BIGGEST. You're on the right track with your setup, but think about that overspray! If the doors behind the one you are spraying are already finished, you are going to end up with a sandpaper-like finish. Watch that overspray!

    I use Zip walls and make a spray booth out of the garage if I needed to, but most times I taught my guys and girls to spray doors right on the hook. (especially 200 lb 8ft doors) An experienced sprayman trained well on leading edges can shoot those doors without the liability risks to both the painter and the door warpage possibilities from removing the doors. Tip size varies on the person pulling the trigger and what they are comfortable with, For oil the .411 FF are nice but the .5 is overkill for the fan width On the trim work we use the .211 (for oil) even if the doors are hanging, as you keep the overspray under better control this way. I learned how to spray with conventional sprayers (pressure pots and air) cup guns. Remember the old oil-cooled Graco 433 and 333's? How about the Binks Super Bees and The Hornets, There were no reverse tips back then and everything was "Flat tips" Before that it was all brush and roll using Ox-hair brushes and french window designs. When you nail the tops of the doors together like he did it's truly an accident waiting to happen because eventually the set up will collapse, (Been there Done that) Anyway wrong or right it's what works for him and we are not the ones to judge as I did it the same way many years ago and paid for my mistakes I am third generation painter/artist and come from the school of hard knocks as most of us old farts are. We never listened to other painters ourselves unless it came from our elders but never from outside of the family way.

      only one coat needed when using quality paint. plus these doors are already primed. I roll the sides once the doors are installed. Everyone does things different. Take care.

      dfw crown I guess. But if it was your own house i'd bet you put a second coat of paint on there. 1 coat doesn't isn't enough of a guarantee that it's 100% covered. If that primer was anything but white it would prove my point. thats all. I love your videos and you share some great knowledge. I just think in my experience 1 coat isn't enough.

    HAVE NOT heard it addressed whether you paint the ends of the doors.
    Most SIDE SWELLING of doors are at the UNPAINTED ends of doors.
    This causes problems of BINDING and UNEVEN spacing around doors.

    I would try to constructively teach a new way to plastic the ceiling, and how I stand up doors. Pre primed doors get prepped and reprimed and 2 top coats on a complete paint job.
    I secure the middle of the plastic to the ceiling from the top side, as it goes up, and it doesn't sag that way.
