You know that "noise" they play at the end?...When the host Allison Stuart tried to go to commercial they started with the niose again...every time she tried to talk they would play as lound as they could...this happened like 5 times in a row!!! Laura PennyWise I agree, and I'd also put Melvins on that list. Although "undervalued" may not be the right term. FNM and Melvins are two of the most versatile bands ever. Most "influential" may be a better term.
What a band. Love how Mike Patton can seamlessly switch between opera and demented screaming. It's a real shame that Big Jim and the rest of the band didn't get on, as they were at their best when he was there.

Angel Dust was so far ahead of its time that many people the in states just didn't get it. Look at this performance, so visionary that most of the crowd didn't know how to react to it.

Apparently they agreed to play the 1st single "Midlife Crisis" but instead did the Fantomas style blasts of chaos and screaming and played "Caffeine" defiantly. This dismissal of the network's demand tagged the group with a "blackballed" status which was brilliant since the channel demonstrated that it wasn't loyal to anything.
Check the link to the special I posted above. Shows that they played Midlife Crisis, Small Victory and Caffiene. The one they bailed on was possibly Epic or some other expected hit. The was one of the most muscically impacttful, charged, psyche modifying performances of anything on TV. Period haha The moment something real broke through.

What happened to Mike Patton between The Real Thing and Angel Dust. Like he seemed so goofy when The Real Thing came out, whereas here he seems like a badass. I mean, I love both albums, just seems like he changed in some way, not sure if there is a story behind it.
I’m pretty sure he talks about in an old interview where the period between those two albums he stated going to more underground hardcore shows probably explains the vocal style change and wardrobe change too lol

I saw them in 92 in Buffalo w GNR & Metallica. I though Metallica stole the show. AXL's voice was shot.......This was the show right before the Toronto disaster where Hetfield burnet his hand.
He burnt his hand and arm in Montreal, then GNR made us wait 3 hours to then play for 25 minutes...Axl left the premises and a riot ensued. FNM were the real reason I was there....and Metallica in their prime.

Hard to imagine now that Mike Patton took a lot of flak off Anthony Kiedis in the early days for ripping off his style.... That certainly went out of the window judging by this video.

I think you mean 1992 not 1994 as Jim Martin was fired by the band and replaced by Trey Spruance/Dean Menta.
