- Bakery vs Homemade MATCHA MOCHI CAKE: • Bakery vs Homemade MAT... Coconut Rice is buttery, fragrant and completely addicting! I first learned about coconut rice when I was in college. They served it at a popular Malaysian restaurant near my school. Now that I've showed you how to make your own coconut milk (link below), we're going to use it to make the coconut rice.

COCONUT MILK RECIPE: • How to Make Coconut Mi...
THAI BASIL CHICKEN: • Thai Basil Chicken Rec...
Embellished Raglan Sweatshirt: piprl.me/1sKmxMj
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Jasmine Rice
- 4 cups Coconut Milk ( • How to Make Coconut Mi... )
- 1 tsp. Sugar
- Pinch of Kosher Salt
Preparation:
I'm rinsing 2 cups of jasmine rice well in my pot. Then I'm taking approximately 4 cups of the coconut milk that we just made, pouring it over the rice. When I'm making rice on the stove i usually always eyeball. My mom and grandma use the finger dipping technique, where they will hold their finger just on top of the rice, and pour enough water just so it rises to the first crease of their index finger. This eyeballing method is tried and true. Now add in 1 teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt.
I'm putting the pot on the stove on medium high heat. I'll keep it at this level to boil until the coconut milk has almost evaporated. This should take about 10-12 minutes. Then I'll cover my pot and turn the heat down to extra low for 15 minutes. The rice will finish steaming at this point. Once it's done, I'll take a fork and fluff it up.
I love serving this with curry or my thai basil chicken. It adds this Coconutty flavor that's so good, it's a little bit sweet yet a little bit nutty. You'll love this recipe. Comment below if you've ever had Coconut Rice and please don't forget to subscribe. I'll see you guys next time! Bye

I just made this recipe for dinner and my 3 year old goes" mommy your the best cooker in the whole wide world." Thanks for a great dinner moment. Lol
Oh boy I’m laughing aloud @ the cuteness of your comment, thanks 🙏
High compliments to the chef! You will cherish that compliment for a lifetime. Thanks for sharing with us and also to the originator of this tried and true!
And thankyou for posting! I enjoyed this little gem of a comment 😌😌
Under 2 minute video getting straight to the point ? Not only am I in love but subscribed !

Omg! My mom taught me how to measure water/liquid for rice the same way with the index finger trick! She learned from her mom also :). We're Chinese, btw!
Janice Wang that's awesome!! such an important skill to be passed down from generation to generation. we'll probably teach our kids the same thing too one day! :D
Thanks for your reply! I will teach my kids that way one day for sure! :)
We also measure the water level in same way.... We r indian
Mehh!! in Bangladesh we'r same too
It’s common in Asia
I've had coconuts rice before. I put coconut shavings in it and a bit of brown sugar I think. Adding some cilantro and lime on top once cooked makes the taste even more amazing
That sounds like an interesting twist. Usually for us Malaysians, we have spicy sambal, fried little anchovies, fried peanuts and a hard boiled egg. I'd love to try your spin on it.
I've had coconut rice before, but I had it last night a restaurant called Cuban Pete's last night and that was the BEST coconut rice that I have ever had!!!!!! Thank you!
Cuban Pete's is the best. I've been approximately 6-7 times. Montclair NJ.. ✌🏾❤
Been meaning to go to Cuban Pete's for a while lol
I just made this recipe for my and my 6 y.o. I usually buy Uncle Ben's Instant Jasmine Coconut Rice. Never again will I buy it. I bought sweetened dried coconut by mistake, so I didn't add additional sugar; just the pinch of salt. It gave the perfect amount of sweetness. Excellent and simple recipe!
Here in Malaysia we call it nasi lemak, which can be translated directly as oily rice. We usually eat them along with sambal (a type of chilli paste) squid or chicken. It's so common here that even me, a Chinese, eat them weekly.
So I'm Trinidadian and I have an affinity for curries and all things Eastern. We tend to cook a lot with coconut rice. How I do mine is like an equal amount of coconut milk and water, olive oil, sea salt, and minced garlic. If I want to liven the rice up, I do green onion or put a little bit of raisins in there for pops of sweetness.
I actually had coconut rice when I went to Jamaica SO DELICIOUS love this recipe thank you brings back soo many memories.
Thanks for this very informative upload, Dzung! I think measuring the water with your index finger is definitely a Vietnamese thing...however, I was not paying attention while growing up and didn't fully comprehend what I was doing, but alas, you have enlightened me. LOL! I used my finger to measure the rice, then add water by the same amount. After watching your video, mind blown! I didn't know that you didn't need to measure the rice line, but only add water to the first knuckle line. Heh. And as a rice eater without a rice cooker, I like the advice on how to cook the rice with lid off until the water is almost evaporated before closing the lid (I've done this with Spanish rice, but never thought it's done the same way with any other rice). Thanks for educating me!!!
My coconut rice never tasted quite right or had the right consistency until I tried your method of cooking uncovered for 10 to 12 minutes. I had just always cooked it covered for the entirety of the cooking process. I also never added the little bit of sugar before I tried your recipie. Those things are critical to getting the texture and taste down. I had my rice with butternut squash curry, so delicious.
I've tried it with lemongrass. It's amazing! Now I can do it. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
From the Pacific Islands, I'm Melanesian and you can't go a day without coconut rice in every home meal 💯👍😋
Hi Dzung, I just tried cooking this coconut rice with home-made coconut milk which was amazing! I used rice cooker instead so that it saved lots of time.I love the fragrant coconut flavor and a hint of sweetness of the rice. Thank you so much for your recipe! Please upload traditional Vietamese pho! I just can't wait to make my own pho at home!
Thanks so much Mengxi! I just released a Pho video! Instead of turkey one can substitute with Chicken to make Pho Ga :)
Ahh so it will work in a rice cooker too? I want to try with canned coconut milk in a rice cooker but I'm worried I'm changing the recipe too much
I plan on making tikka masala and buttered naan later this week… I think this would make a nice side dish, thank you
As a Malaysians, we ate this rice with sambal (some kind of chilli dishes), sliced cucumber and boiled egg. Many Malaysians love to eat this dish in the morning :D
Coconut rice is my favourite - I love the way you present the food and explained the measuring method. Thank you!
Hi..!this is called nasi lemak in Asia. :) if you want to amp it up a little bit, u can add pandan leaves, small slice of ginger, and one slice of garlic. You can eat it with sambal (chili gravy), fish (or any meat if you prefer), cucumber, eggs and fried anchovies.
I tried this and am only 12 years one and it turned out amazing that finger trick is amazing love it 👌🏼
Omg your voice, the title of your channel, and coconut everything, makes me feel all happy and glittery!
I made coconut rice for thanksgiving. I made up the recipe. I cooked the rice in coconut milk and then added coconut flakes. Very yummy!!
A lot of restaurants cheat nowadays and just make plain rice with water and throw a few coconut shavings in at the end. Never has the same flavour. Very glad that you have the original recipe, which is all coconut milk, no water added at all. Thank you!!!
I am Hispanic and I love everything with coconut mostly everything and someone told me about coconut rice so your video was the first one I looked at and loved and actually made it and I love your recipe the only difference I add was trivia sugar not real sugar but still bomb thanks for this recipe I do this once a month to treat myself I love chicken curry with coconut milk too lol I am coconut lover love coconut popsicle ,ice cream ,rum, pancakes and French toast and horchata with coconut flavors and more

Try adding slices of ginger, few cloves, a lemongrass pr pandan leaf if u can find it there...for added fragrance to the rice.... And yes, sambal and fried anchovies goes very well with the rice...

Great video and thank you! Tonight I'm making blackened charred chicken thighs to serve on top of a bed coconut rice! Drizzled with a sweetened coconut lime sauce and garnished with cilantro!
Thank you for this delicious, simple recipe!!!
This video was perfect and the rice was so good and easy! Thank you!!
You had me at eyeball, it save time and dishes. And it's a simple recipe, with not a lot ingredient and it look delicious. For someone whom like to cook only to save money, that one is perfect. Thanks !
Cook the rice with 2 screw pine leaves tied in a knot. Adds it unique "coconut rice" fragrance.
So glad to find this recipe!! I did have Coconut Rice, many years ago,, and I loved it. So did my husband!!
I've heard of the finger measurement trick, but never tried it. I need to give it a shot!
I grew up eating coconut 🥥 rice 🍚😍🥰 because I’m an island 🏝 warrior 😎 Happy Quarantine y’all! Anyone watching in 2021?
Concise and straight to the point! I love coconut rice
Great channel! I love this dish, but I eat is as desert pudding (I may add a bit more sugar). It can also be done with regular milk if no coconut milk handy. Cheers!
Many thanks. Your rice is amazing. The best, the easiest coconut rice ever. My wife even likes my cooking now. I think she has passed the cooking over to me now.
If I don't make my own coconut milk would I just used the canned coconut milk? This sounds delicious and I can't wait to try it!
Yes you can use the canned one but it will be too thick so be sure to mix with water!
Best coconut rice recipe I have 😋 seen, thanks.
Thank you for showing how to rinse rice! Makes it less sticky and gross. A big step that people miss when making rice. In my opinion of course.
sfgrippy really??? people miss this step?? eeeks yeah i think so necessary. :D
0:50 what kind of teaspoon is that??
omg I didn't even look. Great spot, haha

Learned rice measure trick from Ming Tsai youtube video . Yay for that!
Update: I've slightly revised this recipe. I've made it a ton at this point (in a nutshell here it is: I do 1 cup rice to 1 cup coconut milk & 1 cup water) All I can say is Omjesus the cocunut milk is transformative !!!!! 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
The best coconut rice I've ever eaten is at an Indonesian restaurant!
Totorochilbe12 Yummmmm!!
Yummm! Is this considered the same as sweet sticky rice (like the one in desserts such as sticky rice with mango) since that also has coconut milk
Hai.. Maybe you can add ginger and pandan leaves next time. And dont forget anchovies sambal, hard boiled eggs, sliced of cucumber and fry peanuts. We all Malaysian really loves Nasi Lemak.
That rice is usually used for a Malaysian Cuisine called Nasi Lemak. It's really good!
I've never had coconut rice before. How do you keep the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pan?
Thanks for the recipe. I think when I do try to make this, I would omit the sugar. Thanks again.
Thanks for the short video!
Add a pandan leaf while cooking the rice. Takes it to another level!
laleelay mmmm i'm going to have to try that! some people recommended ginger too. so many options!
Honeysuckle Catering Pandan Leaf for sure. :) We have a dish called Nasi Lemak here in Malaysia which literally translates to "Fatty Rice" in reference to the coconut milk used to make the rice. ;)
Is the pot le creuset? Awesome quick recipe! Thx!
I add some unrefined coconut oil for extra flavor.
I have it everyday as a breakfast! They sell it with some condiments and side dishes. But not to healthy to be eaten regularly
Thanks for the response! What would the ratio of canned coconut milk to water be?
jello168 i would just use one can and the rest with water.
Thnx a lot i was looking about it while age finally i found it thnx ❤
I lovee coconut rice it's my favorite and my sister is vegan but not me.
That finger technique might just be a Viet thing! My mom does the same thing :)
We do the same here in Nepal :D
Great video! Thank you. Do you think this will work if I cook the rice in the milk in the microwave?
Nice i just made it thank you lady
Does the type of rice matter?
Malaysian Recipe added Fragrance of Pandan Leaves 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🥰🥰🥰
the finger method isn't going to scale to large pots
btw can you use store bought coconut milk?
I don't know where I went wrong, but did i ever. burnt at the bottom and uncooked at the top. i need to perfect this. love coconut rice.
Try lowering the heat! Will take a bit longer but should solve the issue. Sounds like I t's heating up too fast.
I will give it a shot. thank you
+Derek Young Did you try it again?
Can I use just the rice cooker? Also does it taste good with brown rice?
When you add the sugar and salt do you stir it or just leave it
It called nasi uduk in Indonesia :)
I LOVECaribbean coconut rice. Served with chicken curry, quick pickled carrot, radish and cabbage, and fried plantains…….what’s better?? Lol 😂
