    The first three are why I wish food science was taught in schools alongside nutrition. There's really nothing wrong with drumsticks seemingly not melting; it just has a bunch of air plus natural stabilizers in it that make the texture thick and continue to hold its shape when it melts. It's not labelled as ice cream and it's really not fair to hold it to the same standards as ice cream. Is it worth the price considering so much of the product's volume is air? Probably not, but that's not what people are complaining about. With Poppi and Bloom, most foods that make "miracle" health claims will usually only give you expensive bodily waste because the majority of people get a perfectly acceptable amount of micronutrients through their regular diets.

    • @Fabdanc
      @Fabdanc 6 месяцев назад +260

      Agreed. A lot of people also do not know that a term like ice cream is legally protected. So being a "frozen dairy treat" is not because it is some ultra synthetic concoction... it just means it does not legally meet the definition of ice cream because the milk fat content per weight is not sufficient to meet the standard.

    • @bubblegumplastic
      @bubblegumplastic 6 месяцев назад +74

      Disagree. They try to capitalise on people's desire for ice cream while trying their best to camouflage the fact that the product is not ice cream. It's easy to say "oh it's perfectly clear to consumers, because they don't directly state it's ice cream anywhere" but the pictures look like ice cream bars, it definitely tricks a good portion of their customers - including me! I can't describe how disappointing it felt to grab an ice cream bar and get that stuff instead, it was fine while eating but then sat in my stomach weird and made me feel nauseated. The more we got through the box, the more nauseating they became. It's a deceptive practice, because the actual product is inferior. I think we should go back to more whole foods, and make sure we get rid of minimum wages that haven't been indexed in decades, so people aren't stuck buying products like this fake ice cream and miracle whip.

      @@bubblegumplastic and this is the slippery legal slope. How does one legally define an image of ice cream? It's likely been brought up in court before... They are really interesting cases to read because in many cases, they will argue about where those items can be placed on grocery store shelves i.e. not next to ice cream or ice cream based products.
      Also in terms of labeling... There are things that dairy producers are not legally required to label. For example, they do not have to legally disclose the amount of somatic cells (white blood cells) in milk or milk products -- so you don't know how sick the cows are. This is also why there is a brewing debate between raw and pasteurized dairy products.

      The bloom one was fair. Their influencer advertising was illegal and misleading. They made claims they couldn't back up and the relationship between the influencers and them wasn't disclosed properly (and yes, it almost never is but it's still illegal). A lot of health products and health foods are marketed in unethical and illegal ways. Is the product itself a scam? Maybe, but you'd have to do testing on it instead of just drinking it.
      Edit: It also tastes terrible. That one is a bit subjective, but influencers saying stuff tastes amazing when virtually no customers agree indicates they properly lied while leaving people to believe it was an honest review. That's definitely unethical at the very least.

    Okay because I hear this all the time and it is a bit annoying at this point... Ice cream is a legally protected term. Anything that does not meet that definition cannot legally call itself ice cream. This doesn't mean that what you are eating is fake or bad. Dairy producers fiercely protect definitions of cream, ice cream, butter, and milk. This is why you see terms like "frozen dairy treat" or "buttery spread" in lieu of ice cream or butter.
    It would be like if cotton producers said that only textiles made of 100% cotton could be called fabric.

    I assume that Chipotle workers are carefully monitored where portion sizes are concerned. I’m a Whole Foods baker, and we have our weights checked DAILY to make sure they’re correct as per company guidelines. But it goes both ways; we would get in trouble for items weighing under as well. Drumsticks are not a scam. The stabilizers and lack of cream are blatantly stated on the back of the packaging. The stabilizers makeup for the lack of fat from cream in real ice cream, which gives ice cream it’s structure. The lighter/ airer and ice cream is the faster it melts unless it has added stabilizers. The overchurn aka airiness of the dirt cheap dairy frozen things is just way higher. Air is free.

    In addition to what has already been said about the drumstick and the ice cream, I want to talk about something that I haven't seen discussed in the comments I've seen: the chocolate shell. Part of the reason why the ice cream bar took long to melt is that the chocolate that Häagen Dazs uses is a) higher quality, b) thicker, which helps it hold its shape longer and c) probably tempered, which gives it its snap (I learnt this thanks to Sohla El-Waylly and Claire Saffitz) and make it more stable, which also helps it hold its shape longer.

    There's nothing wrong with what's in the drumstick. It's just cheap for a reason. The stabilizers are what make it melt weird, but honestly... I'd like to see what would happen if you scooped out the innards from a drumstick and mixed that in with proper creme anglaise to see if it would just result in a crazy smooth, almost unbreakable ice cream mixture. Kind of like using cream cheese or a little bit of American cheese in a cheese sauce to help make it extra smooth and keep it emulsified better

If you consume excess nutrients you don’t need you’ll experience “vitamin toxicity.” I have an iron deficiency, but in my hometown for some odd reason no store sold just iron supplements. I was too lazy to order online and needed it asap, so instead I took a multivitamin with iron. I used to take another multivitamin (that I stopped taking when I got the new one with iron) it was a horrible mistake, on one hand I felt less tired and sickly (iron deficiency) but there was something I DID NOT NEED or at least did not need that MUCH of in it and it made me sick with … number 3…and had me vomiting violently. Be careful y’all!

    Chipotle has definitely gone down, and the prices have gone way up. My first time eating there, it was $5.50 for a packed burrito with LOTS of meat. I still get the exact same thing when I go there, and it's now $11.35 for literally the exact same burrito, but there is hardly any meat, and of that little meat, most of it is fat and gristle and can't be eaten. I know pricing goes up over time, but to more than double in price, and also have reduced quantity and quality of meat...its just a shame. Even if I pay for "double protein", it's still not as much meat as they put in the burrito back when I first started going there.

    In order to get a correct test of the Chipotle sizes, we would have to go back in time and weigh stuff then, and then compare it to now, because thats where the scam is coming from. Raising the prices but giving less product, and Chipotle is not the only place where it's happening. They're just more on the radar about it due to all the other backlash they've gotten over the years.
    From my own personal experiences, the last few times I had gotten Chipotle (for free mind you) all had smaller portion sizes, and easily avoidable mistakes such as severely undercooked rice and straight up just huge chunks of animal fat. One of my online friends last order resulted in a burrito that was almost entirely rice, that again, was undercooked. Different location entirely, similar issue.
    On the plus side, there are copycat recipes for nearly everything nowadays, especially for things before companies really started adding a ridiculous amount of filler into them. You can and should meal prep your own chipotle orders, you know exactly what goes into it and can make sure your rice isn't crunchy.

    The Chipotle thing is actually real. You just got lucky. Before COVID, we used to go pick up Chipotle fairly often for dinner. The bowls were always so packed full we couldn’t finish them. They’d be overflowing! After COVID they started delivering in my area. The orders used to be just as full and we were happy bc we could split bowls the kids and save money.
    In the last few months, when we go in person, the bowls are still very stuffed. When we order on DoorDash and have it delivered, it’s half the size. To the point that I have photos and screenshots from submitting complaints to prove it. No matter how often I complain or how many receipts I have, nothing changes.
    We also asked some employees and they said they were told to fill DoorDash orders with less food. 🤷🏼‍♀️
    So, unless we have to, we always go pick up in person now!

    • @cartermichellelee
      @cartermichellelee 6 месяцев назад +2

      Side note: the employees said their manager told them that someone that gets an order delivered through DoorDash is less likely to come in and complain, so they fill it with less, bc if they do complain DoorDash gives the customer a credit and Chipotle doesn’t lose any money giving away free food or refunds.

I was making garlic butter (had harvested some very early garlic) and I was going to add a dash of salt anyway, so told him not to worry about it, I only asked for unsalted from habit. He turned up with a tub of palm oil spread with about 30% "dairy products". Tried to explain this wasn't butter, it wasn't even worth calling (bunny ears) "butter". He's 32. He doesn't bake much.

It also explains inconsistencies. If you have new workers or an oops and didn’t know it. Each batch is made from scratch. Yes sometimes preperpared but always made on site. Not frozen! Hence “no I don’t have frozen dough like Mrs. Fields and can keep them in at all times” sometimes there will be a wait for cookies to bake or flavors running out
