Having a good laugh at a virtual room of prog fans debating the rules 😅. Thanks for taking on a tough task gentlemen. Merry Christmas and a New Year of odd time signatures, extended solos, rich concepts and Parasomnia!
Some of these comments are taking this way too seriously. The point of the wheel isn't to create some universally binding, objective list, it's to have fun talking about good music, and playing a GAME to get them ranked. A really well designed game, btw. Its supposed to be fun. I thought everyone's incessant bitchiness with each other during the episode was a blast lol.
I agree with Kyle's approach, it can only be based on personal preference. I struggle when ranking older stuff mixed with new as I think everything should be judged by today's standards. Something like CTTE was obviously an S when it came out and the years following, but 50 years of prog has been released since so I think that has to be considered. I think the same mindset applies to ranking classic movies as Kyle said. All that being said, this is mine: S: Moving Pictures, Scenes from a Memory, Whirlwind, Snow A: CTTE, Selling England, Dark Side of the Moon, Point of No Return B: Fear of a Blank Planet, Unfold the Future, Parallels C: Blackwater Park, Empath D: The non-prog albums since it's probably not fair to rank them here
Can I come with a suggestion for Eloy to be on the wheel? ☺️ Been getting really into them lately and would love to see you go through their discography. Happy new year ⭐️
That was fun, but I think you guys really should listen to Kyle. When you start considering things like "importance" or "influence," you're trying to make the list more objective. But if you want to be objective, you don't need a panel; one person could do it. In fact, the best way to create that kind of list would be just to get an A.I. to do it. The thing that makes this kind of video interesting from the perspective of a viewer is hearing everyone's personal preferences and what they love (or don't) about certain albums.
Exactly, all of this. The whole point of having panelists is to represent a range of opinions. To then have each guy pay heed to 'acknowledged classics' or something is ridiculous. Why even assemble a panel if you're just going to parrot established lists?
Completely agree. A list that is trying to be objective is boring to me. I get trying to incorporate importance and impact in your decision but ultimately your enjoyment of the album should be the biggest factor.
Rush is my #1 band but I was shocked Moving Pictures was S-tier for everyone and made it to #2 overall given that list was so stacked with amazing albums. Awesome show!
Loved the video!!! Great list! Everyone’s would be different because they are all such great albums. My personal S list would be -Close to the Edge - Dark Side - Blackwater Park - Moving Pictures
It is criminal that Queensrÿche’s Operation:Mindcrime isn’t on this list but Fates Warning’s Parallels (and I love the album). But otherwise an awesome episode with all the strong opinions and disagreement.
I'm thinking of this as "Which great album I recommend to a friend, a good representation of prog music to someone who doesn't know much about it?" Given these albums, my ranking would be quite similar, but would also have OK Computer from Radiohead somewhere (and probably in S or A tier), because it is as groundbreaking and progressive as any album on this list. I could potentially put Opeth above Metallica, because of how more accessible it is for a person who hasn't heard neither to this day. (ambient and pictoral wins a newcomer over raw and aggressive as per my personal observation)
Don't know the flower kings so it isn't in my ranking; S: Scenes from a Memory, Close to the Edge, Blackwater Park, Dark Side of the Moon A: Moving Pictures, Fear Of A Blank Planet, Master of Puppets B: Van Halen, A Night at the Opera, Snow C: Empath, Point of No Return, The Whirlwind D: Parallels, Out of the Blue, Selling England by the Pound Honestly S and A was splitting hairs aside from Scenes.

Great idea ranking these albums!! However, we need your personal rankings, not the overall importance rankings. For that we can just go to progarchives or Rolling Stone etc. :)
Fates Warning Parallels is at the top of S tier for me! Scenes From a Memory isn't even in my top 3 Dream Theater albums! This is a maddening task! I felt exactly the way Daniel felt (when his picks were getting slighted) about the picks he slighted throughout the episode. Except Empath, that's D tier all day!
Some I would have to throw in the S-Tier: The incredible 3 album run for Pink Floyd-"The Dark Side Of The Moon", "Wish You Were Here" and "Animals" all S-Tier IMO. Boston - "S/T" Steely Dan - "Aja" Elton John - "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" Journey - "Infinity" Montrose -"S/T"

Yes, The Flower Kings A - Transatlantic, Opeth, Queen B - Genesis, Kansas C - Pink Floyd, Devin Townsend, Van Halen, Porcupine Tree D - Metallica, Spocks Beard, Fates Warning, ELO, Dream Theater I only like two Spocks Beard albums and they're not Snow; I only like one Dream Theater album and it's not Scenes... See, Spock's Beard in 2024 (and related offshoot bands) was my most listened to family of music. Snow is very good, but not a favorite. The live version from Morsefest was twice as good as the studio Snow album. Still not one of my favorite SB albums. Those would be Day for Night, or X with Beware of Darkness close behind the two of those.

Close to the Edge "B" Tier?! Dark Side of the Moon only "A" tier ?! I don't think I can finish this video. It is probably the greatest Prog album of all time.
There is no way this could have come out to please anyone, let alone everyone. But, really Kyle really messed things up with his final moves. Only got 1 S Tier right
Man says alot about me when Parallels is like one of my favorites ever and Close to the Edge I just dont get (I know!). I have to basically listen to all of these in Prog Report Order. Challenge accepted.
Well, idk what this channel is...everyone wanting opeth down is digusting. There just such a better band than all of this..i love dream theater too. I get people love pink floyd n queen etc, s tier becusse of that. To move opeth..youre reading my comment and on my left arm i have an opeth tattoo. Im 33 n got it at 18 on my b day. I listen to SO many freakn bands..but opeth is jus, mikael is one of the best musical writers in any genere ever. To want to put opeth below s, especially below A, is insane. Booooooooo boo boo booo. Opeths music is so much better, so much more enjoyable, than everything on the list. Jeeeeez. Ha
Great show, but seriously: Scenes more exciting, challenging, inventive, complex and beautiful than e.g. Selling England?? You must be joking! Scenes is full of cliches, boring melodies and predictable chord sequences, it has no place in S. I like DT, but they are grossly overrated when it comes to compositions.
Rush and Dream Theater in S? Oof. And the Queen record has some incredible songs but they never made a truly great album. For me, even ignoring historical importance and just going by taste, modern prog is slim pickings. There are very few prog albums outside of the 70s I'd consider special. The same goes for North American prog like Rush and Kansas. When you replace the British humour and surrealism with AOR sheen, the magic is gone.

Dark Side of the Moon in A with Metropolis and Moving Pictures (both which I love) in S. Both DSotM and NatO transcend any particular genre. Jokers.
Dark Side should be S. There was no way for me to get it there.
No S tier for Genesis? Disqualified.
Yeah that definitely should’ve been S.
Close to the Edge "B" Tier?! Dark Side of the Moon only "A" tier ?! I don't think I can finish this video. It is probably the greatest Prog album of all time.
That’s what a few of us thought too. 🤷🏻♂️
Let us know how it turns out.
ELO totally overrated. Never listen to them unless a captive.
Wish You were Here is no where close to the substance of Moon
Yep. Dark Side is their best, it just happens to also be the most popular.
Jeeeeez. Ha
Kyle completely messed up the whole thing at the end. Of course it’s a Prog list.
