The Game (1980) is one of my favorite albums in complete catalogue of Queen's records.
Me too. Wonderful little pop album, and one of the few Roger songs I love.
Queen II is my favourite and a definite S tier record. Proggy, heavy and not reliant on anthems, which makes it a stronger actual album IMHO.
Fun to watch! Great having Albi in the mix. The Works ranks much higher for me, my first Queen album.
Hot Space is much better than most people give it credit for, especially Side 2.
Hope there’s a Beatles episode eventually!

Love this video! Queen is my favorite band! I found myself agreeing mostly with Alberto, and thank you Alberto for mentioning “Keep Passing the Open Windows” it’s one of my favorites!

Hunky Dory, Ziggy and Heroes belong to the S tier.
“Sweet” that Alberto mentioned Sweetwater which I’m a customer. NDV is a drum spokesman there.
Warren Huart of Produce Like a Pro profiled Sweetwater and described as the Disneyland musical instrument theme park. You need to interview him on the podcast 🙂.
Two words that sum up Innuendo: Steve Howe. The album was recorded in the same Mountain Studios as Going For the One. The flamenco solo has the same atmosphere as Turn of the Century. Robert Plant sang the title track very well at the Freddie tribute.
Other faves at the tribute are Roger Daltrey (I Want It All), Bowie (Under Pressure, All the Young Dudes & Heroes) and Joe Elliott (Tie Your Mother Down).

Honorable mention to Live Killers (my first Queen album). I saw them in 1980. Still to this day, the best show I've seen
Sail Away Sister is a big fave here. Very ELO-ish IMHO.
And I love very much three songs of great Queen: a massive epic masterpiece The Prophet's Song, a very heavy track White Man, and so knotted composition Get Down, Make Love. These three wonderful songs often come to my ears.
In the end that's the way I would have put the Albums. Big Big Train The Likes of Us is an S tier Album.
Oh man, I was completely agreeing with your S tier until Alberto knocked Queen II down a peg! Nothing against A Day at the Races but Queen II is a masterpiece and deserves to be at the top.
Alberto was born in 1983, which means that he was 6 when The Miracle was released.
Geoff says he's younger than Alberto, and yet he claims to have been 18 when The Miracle was released! WTF?
Since you ask, I would rank them like this (also within respective tiers).
Anyways, here's _my_ list:
S: Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera, The Works
A: Jazz, News of the World, Innuendo
B: The Game, A Day at the Races, Queen II
C: A Kind of Magic, Queen, The Miracle
D: Made in Heaven, Hot Space (only because of Under Pressure), Flash Gordon
I think the first nine albums on my list are all spectacular or great listens. The rest are kind of 'meh' as a whole or, as in the D tier, mostly bad.
I like Geoff's comments about Hot Space - I'd have it in C, too, and I agree with everything he says about it, particularly about Freddie's vocals, which are outstanding on the album. I'd put it at the lower end of Queen's output, but I still kinda like it, and I'd put it easily above The Miracle, A Kind of Magic and Flash Gordon. I might even put it above Jazz, too - which most people probably won't agree with.
I saw their last 4 American tours, ending permanently the Hot Space disaster. I was 13 when Night At the Opera came out. 80s Queen was a pop Euro band, which is why Alberto loves that stuff.

Queen would be one of the most difficult bands for me to rank their albums. They may be the greatest band of all time that has no perfect album. Every album has some really really great songs but every album has some schlock

Yes yes yes man am I happy to see you reviewing and ranking the albums of my favourite band and the band that introduced to all different styles of music and to me although they stand out as a rock band to me can be put in the progressive category. But Steven Wilson on his podcast summed up Queen very well they were a singles band.

Some brief commentary before I unveil my personal tier rankings. Firstly, great show! For me, personally, the magic of Queen ended after The Game. I'm just a huge fan of their golden era, and don't have much use for what followed. Hot Space was a hard left turn that displeased many fans. The response resulted in The Works, which was to an extent an attempt at their return to form. But in my opinion, they were never able to pull it off. My rankings will be controversial to many, but that's fine by me. A note about Jazz. In watching quite a few Queen album ranking videos, this one seems to be one of the most divisive. That being said, it is my favorite.

Major fact checking is necessary. Night At the Opera was recorded on a 24 track machine! Not a 4 track. Sgt. Pepper was famously recorded on a pair of 4 track machines. By 1975, 24 track was commonly used in most major studios, including all of the studios Queen used to record this album. All of the layering on Night at the Opera could never be done on a 4 track machine without loss of fidelity and tape hiss creeping in all over the place. 4 tracks analog (eye roll). Come on!
"Hot Space" is awesome! It has taken me 40 years to love it, however. It is way better than "Jazz."
"It's Late is really good" ... yep. That's an understatement. News of the World was at least an A-tier for that song alone!
So happy to see that this is the top comment. Probably my favorite Queen song, and they are (tied for) my favorte band. So you can imagine how I feel...

TRUE. It's my dad's favourite Queen song, it doesn't quite top the list for me but it's so good and rarely talked about

I am a lifelong Queen fan, they are my favorite band of all time. However, Queen II has always been my least favorite of their albums, and I get a LOT of flack for that opinion. So I came here to see where you guys put it.
Seeing Geoff get pounded for putting it at a B makes me realize that I need to go back and give this one another serious listen.

Can't believe that Made in Heaven is on the bottom. For me it's Innuendo neighbourhood kind of album.
Queen are Progressive
Jazz is my favourite. It's S for me but I would settle for A.
They are all at least A up to Jazz.
II and Sheer are S. Flash is an exceptional soundtrack. Also A. Don't lose your head is fantastic. The Works doesn't do anything interesting? Wtf? In fact it's an A. SO THERE!
Hot Space :Staying Power and Action This Day are awesome live at The Bowl. Cool Cat is a brilliant track. I think Body Language and Back Chat are the only week tracks IMO.
QUEEN died when Freddie did. Not interested in them without him.

The first Queen album not being at least A is a travesty. If the Game moved down and this album replaced it id be pretty happy with this ranking. Queen 2 is S for me in place of Innuendo

I’d do some minor swaps but what blows my mind is Innuendo. That is C tier all day. Terrible album. I just don’t get that one at all.

@@progreport Bring it baby! They have lots of albums and their live ones count too (Alive 1, 2, 3, Unplugged), they've been through every era since the 70s and they have wonderful highs and terrible lows.

The fact that the debut is poo pooed and minimized is very disappointing.
Oh man, things where going so well until you elevated Innuendo to superior. I'm Going Slightly Mad in itself relegates the album to the dustbin, it's the worst song they ever wrote, just terrible and apart from the title track the others arnt much better. To rate it better than Queen 2 & Day At The Races is poor judgement.
Anyway, fun show as always and hope to see more 'Rock Wheel' shows! Maybe bands that have some prog epics in their cannons-Led Zep, Uriah Heep, Led Zep, Utopia etc. Will be seeing Alberto on the UK leg of the tour!
Queen are a band that should have released an album every two years. Well, at least in the 70s. Most of their albums are only half great. Can you imagine how great the Queen albums would have been if their best tracks from consecutive years had been on a single album. Hey, that could be a good subject to talk about.
