Perp let him go because of coming daylight and his injuries were already fatal. Oh my god, poor Slade. He was half dead and still gave it everything he could to help his family. Just imagining a dying 13 year old boy using all of his strength to find his mother and die at her feet....so so so tragic and unfair. I watch so much true crime, I’ve grown so used to graphic depictions of violence. But hearing what happened to Dylan has me crying my eyes out right now. He was just a baby that should have been protected. I feel so awful that he had to endure such terrible torture before the untimely end of his short life. I hope he can rest now.
Why was he ever allowed parole?! This is why I have no respect for our justice system. Child predators should NEVER be allowed back out into the public, EVER.
This story of this poor family is the exact reason that the laws against child predators and sex offenders should be stricter and they should never be released to do the same thing again or worse. My heart goes out to the little girl. I hope she can overcome the trauma.❤️❤️❤️
Here's the thing about making stricter laws. They usually end up hurting innocent people and not the people it needs to. I think what you need first and foremost is to realize the United States isn't as safe as you think it is and to be alert. These crimes ain't new only thing new is how fast the crimes get reported.
i've always said this, yet this evil POS was let out time and time again, if 'IT' had been giving the death penalty first time around all these other victims would still be alive, this world we live in is sick!
I don't think it's "our society" that does it... It's the crooked folks in power. (Judges, lawyers, mayor's, governors, politicians, etc...) Bc even prison rules state that child predators are not permitted to live.
Everyone is talking about Slade or Shasta while both are undeniably tragic I can't imagine the utter terror poor little Dylan had to go through! Being tortured by that monster! How alone and terrified the poor little baby must have been. It makes my blood boil! He got abducted, tortured, murdered brutally and his body got burned then tossed around like garbage. Just appalling... My heart truly aches for the little boy.
Imagine your parents and brother being brutally murdered and then you're taken by this insane crazy guy and no one can help you! Just absolutely horrifying 😢
So much respect for Slade the 13 year old , i think in his last moments he was fighting to see his siblings and then eventually make it to his parents , to be fatally attacked 3 times and still at the end of it seen to be walking around the garden , so much respect for that dude , RIP , you definitely tried your best
@@TheAnnoyingBoss sounds like you didnt get far enough. he got hit twice, then woke back up and went to his siblings, got chased and knocked out again, then woke up alone. wandered around looking for eveyone until he found his parents dead. and then died next to them, with his parents yet still alone. thats pretty fuking sad if you ask me, each kid just had insane trama in this, the sister for being shown her brothers last moments of being tortured while she probably had unspeakable things done to her as well. all of this is fucking insane and by far the worst part is that it all happened because the kids played outside, and the back door was unlocked.
All three of the children experienced something horrific in three different ways. Yet, for some reason, Slade’s experience hurts me the most. He was a fighter. He refused to die in order to attempt to save his family. This breaks my heart. Poor babies. The predator deserves no mercy.
The girl ended up being a criminal herself. I think the offenders are actually just people who were victims themselves and have unresolved trauma which needs to be addressed. They don't just commit a crime because they are evil people. As he says, he wants the underlying issues to be addressed so that crime does not happen in the first place. As you can see, he cried out to God asking why he would let this happen. He is a victim himself. They need treatment to heal to prevent crime in the first place, as the "criminal" usually starts out as a victim such as in the girl's case as well.
@@smears6039 I don't agree with calling her a criminal , I agree with saying criminals usually start out as victims themselves and there's often no real rehibilitation and support dedicated to fix the root of the problem , it becomes and endless cycle.

Thank god the people at Dennys spoke up so quickly because I'm sure that would've been the last time Shasta would have been seen alive if they didn't say anything, but still so horrifying to think of all the things she had to witness, that mental torture will last far longer than anything and I hope she's doing better these days

This is such a horrible story I’m a 57-year-old man and it’s taking me a lot to hold back tears as I listen to this. And from what I understand the young girl that survived has lived a very difficult life ever since. When I was married to my ex-wife I’d be gone sometimes from the house and I always worried about the family so I acquired two Rottweilers that would not let anyone near the house. Because this is one of my worst nightmares that some demon would come in the middle of the night. may these people rest in peace and I hope the young lady that survived we’ll get some help.
He died at his mom's feet. He was probably trying to defend his mother. Poor kid. I have two sons and they are always quick to the rescue if I am hurt. May this family rest in peace.
I know, the idea of him trying so hard to stay alive and help his family just to re-enter the home and see his dead parents and siblings gone is absolutely heart wrenching. Slade did his very best to keep fighting

I knew of this case already and I wish they would have included some of the interviews that Shasta has given as an adult. If I remember everything correctly she has said that Joseph r*ped her too and had tried to strangle her to death but didn’t when she called him „Joe“ (which was supposedly how his mum called him). Another detail I would have liked to be mentioned is that Josep asked Shasta to visit him in prison when he was arrested at that Denny‘s and she said yes (but obviously never did). Imagine having the gall to ask a child to visit you in prison after brutally killing her whole family and torturing her. This guy was truly insane! I wish they would have elaborated on the things that he had written about his childhood. If I recall correctly Shasta struggled with addiction and I think that at least one biological child was taken from her (as far as I understood not because of abuse but because of her addiction- which might have led to neglect idk). I‘ve seen comments scrutinizing her for that and I find that disgusting. Some people can’t even find empathy for an addict who endured what she did. The fact that she’s still alive is a miracle to me and shows how strong she is. I hope that she got the help that she needed.

This case was HORRIBLE. Instead of getting rid of the bodies, he left them around the house to rot. Joseph was BEYOND evil. That poor little girl. She must have been absolutely terrified. I am by no means religious, but I hope God helps that little girl heal and continues to punish Joseph on earth and in hell. Edit: I also hope Slade feels a sense of justice wherever he is. He was truly a fighter.
Omg REALLLY? I don't see you saying the exact same thing to the initial video/content creator. If that's the way you feel...then why did you even watch the video?
Can't even imagine what Slade went through. A young boy just hit by disastrous murder attacks gathered all his dying energy to check out on his family only to find his beloved parents not alive in his last moments 💔💔💔💔
Thank you so much for covering this case. This happened in my state, and Shasta has not caught a break in life since. This case always brings me to tears, and i was just searching a month ago for a chanel like yours to have broken this down. One of the worst parts is the police tried to dub this as a meth deal gone wrong. Sickening. May they rest in peace, and I pray Shasta continues to recover.
This case rocked our community in ways it still hasn’t recovered. Shasta outsmarted Joseph Duncan and was more brave than anyone I know. They demolished the house but those awful memories will be with Shasta forever. Bless her heart
I watched this story on different programs before. I can't even imagine what kind of hell they all went through especially the little boy Dylan. That one breaks my heart the most.
Damn--- I've been watching a ton of your documentaries lately, EWU, but this one is definitely the most gruesome I've watched. I may need to take a break for awhile lol Fantastic research job as always though!
The part where the abuser says “ he knew a lot about abuse… “ I have no doubt he did. Whatever suffering he may or may not have experienced in childhood that fuelled his later behaviour doesn’t wash with me. I have sympathy for the child in him and his earlier experiences but not for the adult for the following reasons. When we are grown, regardless of our history we become adults and have to take responsibility for the decisions we make. There are billions of people on this planet, many of home have experienced harder childhood experiences than this perpetrator, and yet they didn’t behave like him, also there are many other people who experienced less childhood harm than him and as adults did far worse! Swings and roundabouts! There’s a point where regardless of our history we have to take the consequences of our behaviour. So he should never ever be set free in society again. The public have an absolute right to remain protected and I doubt very much he can be rehabilitated and even if he can be, his crimes are so heinous he should never be forgiven.
@@wingingninja LMAO believe in what you want, it wont change alot. Also, you were spewing alot of bullshit. You clearly have no idea that somebody, who had a traumatic childhood and nobody to support him (the abuser had to, otherwise unlikely he wouldve turned out that way), does not just simply "SNAP OUT" of it and "takes responsibility". You have no fucking single clue about what you're talking about. It might be the case if you're foolish, or mildly disturbed etc, but if you really got fucked up as a child and left to your own, you do not just magically turn around.
I can’t imagine how hard it will be for that little girl to ever feel safe again. Seeing her knowing that guy killed her family, watching video of her brother tortured, then see him get shot and killed, absolutely horrible. This was a rather hard one to listen to.
My mom always told me, if they tie you up, you're as good as dead. Better to get shot running than tortured. Idk why we live in a society where a mother has to tell their child something so awful.
Why does this story seem constructed, bullet holes, no resistance, door open, People with trauma like slade’s don’t get up once, let alone twice, Brenda is not a woman
Mind you, this guy was doing this stuff nearly 30 years ago just the same. And every psycho killer before at some point in history was doing it then. Don't pull the whole "Oh, look at society" card out. It's called the dark side of humanity, and it's been around as long as we have.

I think the torture of poor baby dylan was just the very worst part of this.... how horrific for Shanta to now hold all of this pain and rembering the horrible stuff this monster did to her and her family for the rest of her life... words can't describe how pained I feel for this family.... I just can't handle watching this anymore..
I remember the first case vividly. I was living in the area at the time and had camped out at Wolf Lodge on a couple of occasions. I have a sibling that missed them at the Denny's by minutes, so it's always been especially memorable. Those poor kids. Thank you for saying the city and county names correctly.
Im at a loss on this case, not enough words could explain how horrific this story is. It’s worse than any nightmare imaginable. My heart goes out to Shasta who will have to live with this for the rest of her life. Her life will be forever scarred. Knowing what happened to Dillon, just hope Joseph gets what he has coming for him in this life or the next.
I agree with you on all of this. I won’t even speak his name because such a creature as him is disgusting to even mention. He will rot in hell for what he has done to this poor innocent family, they didn’t ask for this nor did they deserve it. I may live on the opposite side of the country (east coast) but this is really heart breaking for me, I almost cried. But once more, this monster will suffer the same way this family did and he will rot in hell for eternity, the true and just punishment if you ask me. Disgusting beings like him do not even deserve parole nor do they deserve to walk and roam the earth once more after serving time. I’m so glad that me and you and all the other comments have the exact same opinions. May Shasta find peace and comfort with her father and move past this trauma
When I first heard this story, I watched it on an ID discovery program, I was sick to my stomach. I’ve never been as disturbed by a case before. This one really got to me.
Even though I've heard about this case before, watching this video was like hearing about it again for the first time! The ways in which EWU presents these cases is so unique...& always on point! Thank you guys for all your work & effort. RIP to all the innocent victims of this evil monster & I sincerely hope Shasta is able to find some peace & comfort in her life.
I remember hearing about this case on the news when I was a kid. I never knew how horrendous the details were, my parents always changed the channel before I could hear anything. My heart aches for Shasta. I can't begin to fathom what it's like going through something so abhorrent and traumatizing. Thank god she has her father to support her and get her mental\physical help she needs. She'll never read it but, good luck in your recovery Shasta, healing is possible ❤️
Same. I remember hearing about Shasta a lot….but had absolutely no idea how brutal it was & what poor Dylan went through. This is just terrifying & we already know there are more just like this monster
Slade was so strong. He wanted to live. He wanted to help his siblings. He wanted to help his family. He died so brutually. That poor baby fought so so hard it breaks my heart.
The amount of detail he went into easily makes this one of the worst cases I’ve heard in my life . How easily he just targeted a random family is beyond terrifying
Omg these poor children. Little Dylan suffered so severely before he was killed. Shasta herself had to use manipulation tactics to save her own life. My heart bleeds for them and the fact that one man can cause so much devastation for so many people is almost incomprehensible. It's terrifying. Dylan's story really gutted me. Obviously Shasta as well but for some reason there's the blitz attack that killed the older child and adults. It was terrifying and horrible but fast. Shasta and Dylan were tortured and had to depend upon staying in the good graces of this monster to survive. Dylan knew he wasn't going to make it. And the sick f*ck couldn't even do THAT with a bit of compassion. He shot him in the stomach. Then for whatever reason as he's strangling Shasta, she's able to sway him into letting her stay with him by using his nickname. The survivor's guilt and pain this child suffered I beyond comprehending. I hope she finds some sort of peace at some point.
I moved to Coeur d'Alene a few years after this happened but I had seen the news about it before the move and it really shook me and has stayed with me ever since. We personally weren't friends but my children and Shasta were and went to school together. I really feel for her and the incredibly horrifying experience she went through and had a really hard time growing up. Undoubtedly and not surprising after what she went through. I know she moved away a few years ago bc of constantly being asked about her ordeal and the constant reminder. She said she didn't want to be known as the girl who's family was murdered and wanted to go somewhere new to make a fresh start but she is still in Idaho. She has 2 kids now last I heard and doing as best as she can. To this day, I tell my children repeatedly to ALWAYS make sure the doors are locked. You never know what monster will base their evil decision on whether or not the door was left unlocked.
People talking about the children Slade, Shasta, and Dylan but let’s not forget Anthony, Carmen and sammiejo -other childrens lives he also took. As well as the parents he brutally beat. Let’s take a moment for them all. RIP ANGELS 🙏🏻
Never ever go down without a fight. If someone is in your house against your wishes, especially with a weapon, you attack at any chance you get. I'd rather die fighting knowing I tried than watching the mother go get every kid to serve up on a platter. Lock your doors and shoot to kill.
As a victim of a home invasion; this is a whole lot easier said than done. I punched one of them but then got quickly pistol whipped and had it pointed to my forehead.
@@proctor123456 I was also a victim of a home invasion. But once I heard them at the door I just opened a window and fired a shot out of the window and they ran away.
How disturbed can one’s mind be ?! It scares me to see how people can hurt innocent children and other people in such a horrible way ! Can’t put my mind around so much horror …

One thing that enraged me in the story is that his attorneys refused to let him admit where the murder weapon is. Scumbag lawyers should be charged with obstruction of justice or something.
Just reading a lot of comments…💔 This happened near where I live and a few years ago Shasta was really not ok. She went missing with her sons (but were all located safe) and has had a really hard time (as anyone could imagine). People didn’t cover the case for years because she didn’t want to talk about it. I’m happy to see her speaking about it now because I hope that means she’s in a better place and with more publicity, I hope she’s given more resources, support, and love. ❤ I’ve watched specials on survivors that Elizabeth Smart works with and it’s made me sad to not see Shasta being with others that understand that kind of trauma and can share their support. I hope her speaking out helps get her all the things she needs
I was thinking of that too! I remember how when Jayme Closs escaped, Elizabeth Smart, another woman whose family was murdered by her abductor, and I think two other survivors of similar horrors met with Jayme to help give her hope and support.
@@michellebuskie4102 Anyone who sees this as entertainment is sick. It's education. If we don't get these stories out there then the relaxed laws that let monsters do this will never be changed. Imagine his doctor friend paying his parole! That person has blood on his hands. Note, this case makes Shasta such a strong lady, survivor and now having family. Would love to see her healed, strong and interviewed.
The most disturbing part was slade managing to make it back to his mother half alive only to see her dead and to pass himself. What a tragic awful way to go. Absolute monster.
I think the torture that young boy experienced was worse, poor kid. Lord have mercy.
Slade was actually murdered outside and dragged back inside then placed at his mother's feet. Either way it's horrible.

There was more than one disturbing part ...shaista seeing and hearing her brother taken away to be raped and shot ....nightmare of horrors

Any sex crime against children should be a capital offense. No prison, no therapy.. just a slug to the temple. You can't be saved from that
Actually that is why Adonai YHWH sent his son, Yeshua HaMessiah into the world so that those that believe by repentance can be saved.
The only thing that one cannot be forgiven for is Blasphemy.
That's why those that believe need to stay in prayer continually for the people of Adonai Yeshua HaMessiah to be delivered from all forms of Darkness. Stop taking that sacrifice made by our Lord and savior for granted because their is power in the blood if Adonai Yeshua HaMessiah, because demons and devils are real and they do not appear like those in the movies.
Pray always for the will of Adonai YHWH to be done. The unrepentant will be condemned. Be careful not to be condemned along with them because you cannot forgive them. Shalom,

Some people aren't born into money, or a loving family, or with total control of their mental facilities, so a stronger infrastructure of a safety net is vital to stop these things from happening.

I can’t imagine how hard it will be for that little girl to ever feel safe again. Seeing her knowing that guy killed her family, watching video of her brother tortured, then see him get shot and killed, absolutely horrible. This was a rather hard one to listen to.
5 years ago she went to prison for endangering several of her children. And now she has 4 children with a 5th on the way…
@@VikingOfHumleafter going through something like this at such a young age I don’t think she was ever going to turn out normal
My mom always told me, if they tie you up, you're as good as dead. Better to get shot running than tortured.
Idk why we live in a society where a mother has to tell their child something so awful.
no mother has to, she chose to. a big dog will protect their family member.

Yea ! Found one I had missed , herd this story before, but you guys always add more detail, more about the story! That’s why your my favorited channel, been a long time subscriber to EUW SINCE THE FAMILY TOOK us on lots of adventures! 😊
This is one of the WORST cases I've came across. My heart goes out to those poor children. This is beyond disturbing.
I think the torture of poor baby dylan was just the very worst part of this.... how horrific for Shanta to now hold all of this pain and rembering the horrible stuff this monster did to her and her family for the rest of her life... words can't describe how pained I feel for this family.... I just can't handle watching this anymore..
She’s doing ok now.
I have to admit that this form of presentation is superior to others, and the voice of the narrator is awesome. Very professional EWU Crew, hats off.
You gotta have a sad life to even agree to be an attorney for people like this.
Despicable 💯
there are attorneys that will be appointed to these cases to defend the killers as it is their rights to have one. Sad but it happens
When I first heard this story, I watched it on an ID discovery program, I was sick to my stomach. I’ve never been as disturbed by a case before. This one really got to me.
Thanks!
It's unbelievable how that girl went through 2 months of hell but still managed to keep herself alive and get herself found.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Even if they literally have a gun point blank at you ? Honestly i think most of us would stay frozen if something like that happens
@@alexanderluna1845 yeah that's a natural reaction. But you need to be smart and understand it's your only chance cause your def gonna die.

“The father turned to psychics to aid the search, but those efforts proved futile.”
Color me surprised.
Hearing about the teenager standing back up when they left hit hard, especially knowing he went back inside and leaving the blood on his father, checking on his condition I'm sure and ended up next to his mother... Smfh That imagery is never going to leave my mind. R. I. P. young man, as well your family.

I’ve watched specials on survivors that Elizabeth Smart works with and it’s made me sad to not see Shasta being with others that understand that kind of trauma and can share their support. I hope her speaking out helps get her all the things she needs
I was thinking of that too! I remember how when Jayme Closs escaped, Elizabeth Smart, another woman whose family was murdered by her abductor, and I think two other survivors of similar horrors met with Jayme to help give her hope and support.
Some folk don't want to be other people's entertainment...don't blame her.
@@michellebuskie4102 Anyone who sees this as entertainment is sick. It's education. If we don't get these stories out there then the relaxed laws that let monsters do this will never be changed. Not saying she has to talk to anyone if she doesn't want to, just that her life and trauma isn't "other people's entertainment".
Poor Shasta.
This genuinely has to be one of the most sickening cases I’ve ever heard.
I watched half of it and I couldn’t stomach anymore. It brings to much memories up of my sweet sister
Okay, every hair on my arms was standing up when you spoke about him screaming the Devil is here boy😮😮😮 chills to the core man! This story is so tragic and straight up frightening!!!!
I would bet anything that not 1 person that commits acts like these could EVER be rehabilitated.
Imagine his doctor friend paying his parole! That person has blood on his hands. Note, this case makes Shasta such a strong lady, survivor and now having family. Would love to see her healed, strong and interviewed.
doctors killed thousands of people knowingly during Covid, he doesnt care.
Sadly she’s not healed, she understandably got involved with drugs and crime
