    Very informative video Sean. I am usually very skeptical of such videos as they meander all over but you kept it on the topic. As for other topics, would love to hear more about the various specializations at UVA, their new college of data science, internship opportunities, opportunities at the CS job fairs. There are no other videos out there which give that color on the actual CS stream. Enough videos about dorms :-) need no more. Keep em coming.

      Hi Satish! In the future I'm going to make videos on more general topics for students, but I wanted to help guide you in the right direction. I was not a part of the college of Data Science, so I can't give anymore information than what's the official website (datascience.virginia.edu/). Companies at UVa career fairs offer summer internship opportunities. You'll have to speak with them, drop your resume and keep in touch. There are many opportunities for summer internships that can be found through a google search. The engineering career fair in the fall will be what you want to focus on. Most companies (especially the big ones) start recruitment early so it's best to attend that. Other career fairs will still be valuable and offer great opportunities. At the end of the day, having a CS degree from UVA will provide lots of opportunities. These students are the hottest commodity in the University.

    Hey man!
    This is by far, the most helpful video I have found about UVA. I am hoping to transfer there next Fall for computer engineering, I am torn because everyone keeps saying that VT is way better at CS/CpE than UVA, would you say that you are happy with your decision of attending UVA over Tech? Or would you do it differently if you could go back in time?

    • @SeanLei
      @SeanLei  4 года назад +5

      Bryam Ayvar I have no regrets going Uva over tech. Tech may be ranked better for engineering than Uva, but Uva as a whole is better and honestly has better name recognition with most companies. Can’t speak for tech graduates, but Uva grads have no issue getting job offers from the top tech companies like Microsoft amazon google

    What is the primary programming language used at UVa?

    • @SeanLei
      @SeanLei  5 лет назад +3

      You start with python and use it alot throughout the years. You'll also be introduced to c++, and then java depending on your electives. mySql will be used a lot too for databases

    I'm planning to transfer to UVA next year. I was wondering how I can get in touch with students and faculty to learn more about the program. Also, I would love to attend the presentations about each major in the engineering department, but I don't know who to talk to.

    • @SeanLei
      @SeanLei  5 лет назад

      Your engineering advisor is a great place to start. There are also career advisors specifically for engineering students who take walk-ins! For students, there are professional engineering fraternities like trigon/theta tau. But really you can ask any student walking on engineers way (where all classes are) and they'll be pretty receptive. I found out about the majors night while taking ENGR 1602, they made attending several required. Let me know if u have anymore questions!

    Hey I really loved your video and all the topics you covered! I just wanted to ask, Is the BA CS easier than the BS CS degree or is it pretty much the same? Will I have a better time doing the BA CS degree if i want to do side projects? Thanks again

    • @SeanLei
      @SeanLei  5 лет назад +2

      Many of my peers and I think the BACS is much easier. There's less required courses (digital logic design, capstone or operating systems, the latter one being insanely difficult/timeconsuming) which gives you more time and flexibility to take the electives you want. The bscs will require intro engineering, chemistry, math, etc while the bacs you'll have to complete foreign language, writing classes and more. I suggest you look up the requirements for each degree, but the bacs is Definetly easier in terms of the required CS courses.

    • @SeanLei
      @SeanLei  5 лет назад +1

      I'll also add that the bacs you apply at the end of 2nd year, which is guaranteed unless you have a good gpa. Engineering students apply end of first year and is practically guaranteed

      Sean Lei - Money & Minimalism thank you so much for elaborating on the two types CS degrees. I’m sophomore/junior transfer student to the college of arts and sciences for CS and think that the BA CS will be the best for me looking at the curriculum.

    How is the advisory system at UVA? Would you say that there was someone you could speak to in the faculty when things got tough or did you feel most students had to figure it out themselves? Also how is internship accessibility during undergrad?

    • @SeanLei
      @SeanLei  5 лет назад

      There are a lot of advisors that are accessible (walk-in and by schedule). I suspect you're asking about academic advisor, who can surely guide you in the right direction and recommend class scheduling. As for other advisors, there are many that tackle specific things. Career advisors have been great to me in figuring out my direction and career I want to head towards, pepare for job search, etc. There's also CAPS which offers counseling for when times get tough. I found most students did career-specific internships in the summer, and worked at part-time jobs (at libraries, dining halls, gyms) during the year. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    • @kelechio2653
      @kelechio2653 5 лет назад

      Sean Lei is it common for people to get hired by big companies like google Microsoft or amazon or are those students usually top of the class

    • @SeanLei
      @SeanLei  5 лет назад

      @@kelechio2653 Yes, quite a few go into the big 4 tech companies! I would say Preparation > grades. Good grades will surely get that initial interview, but after you need to be solid in your technical skills, coding questions and be able to draw upon previous projects.
