@@ImNotRoad It's actually not too bad. I'm Drykyu, the third person at the end, and it's actually surprisingly good. And no, I'm not being paid to say that. I think that the team behind Raid are assholes. However the game itself is quite fun.
Moral of the story, Mod Ash is the only thing between the servers melting and Runescape running.
When the maintenance lasts longer than expected you can imagine dozens of people at JAGEX putting out fires.

3:30 I was one of those kids who saw Runescape on Miniclip and had no idea what they were doing and had never played an MMO before, I had to sneak it because my parents said I couldn't make an account. I specifically remember crying and lying about it when I got scammed out of my Addy kiteshield and most of my gold to some dude in Varrock who said he would trim it... I thought we were friends because we mined iron together. Fucking memories, man.
I feel that LOL, I got scammed so many times as a kid. Miniclip is how I found RS too :)
Same here my man. My Christian parents didn’t like the idea of magic and evil monsters, so I had to sneak down at 5am on Saturday’s to play for a few hours before they woke up.

Dude holy shit nostalgia. But yeah I followed I guy with a whip in f2p asked him how he got it and he brought me to the wilderness, I wasn't ready lol.
Same dude. I was so hyped when i got 40 attack (with 1 str because i didn't know how to train it) and got 30k to buy a rune scimitar. I went to varrock west bank, and this dude sold me a damn noted bronze scimitar because i was too excited to pay attention. I stopped playing for a week, got back on, and got scammed for my account. "Did you know jagex doesn't let you say your password? ********* see!"
Runescape taught me a lot about the world in a short period of time.

Old RuneScape was the wild west full of hustlers, bustlers and pimps
old scams came back, 100k in gold was 10 dollars on money sites. Felt like 2007 on re release.

Moral of the story. Mod Ash saves the day numerous times. Odds are he's under paid. Jagex really should give him like a mil bonus check just for everything he's done
My first membership required I go exchange AUD for GBP (after convincing the parents ofc) and posting it in an envelope with my account name to an address in England.
I was on holiday when they finally received my payment and upgraded my account - I couldn't wait to get home and explore beyond the Falador gate.
This is just a video on why Ash is known as "God Ash" within the community lul. To this day he is still one of the most hard working, helpful, and friendly mods on the team.
Imagine someone exploiting a glitch and then the moderators are like:

The first years of Runescape was Amazing. You didnt know shit what to do or expect. It was pure fun roaming the world of gillenoir
It wasn't though. Runescape was a different world back then, the community was like no other and it is possible that a similar community won't ever exist again. The social side of the game was what made it so fun. It was a genuine mmoRPG.
It was a time when the majority of people on the internet were children, and we didn't have too many choices of where to flock to. Children are still on the internet, but they have different games to go to, and the development team focuses on making the game work for the super addicts and tryhards. Which is fine, that's the current playerbase, but it's an unfriendly model to new players and especially to children.
Runescape from 2001 - 2004 was so amazing.

I know I’m maybe a boomer for this one, but I kinda loved RS classic. There was a certain nostalgia to the very low Rez nature of the game. OSRS is dope though and I play often!

Dude, I just looked on Wikipedia to find out Gower went to a very local secondary school to where I live. I'm now insanely interested to know what area of Nottingham that house is because given the picture thats been posted before of it, he could literally have been from my own estate. My mind is blown.

The reason why early Runescape was so good is because of all the fun and crazy shit that we went through. I quit in 2007 once things started to get more polished...
Game is actually pretty fantastic right now
My earliest memory is seeing my childhood friend playing Runescape and asking to try it out. I got to like 20 attack killing cows before I figured out you could switch attack styles.
Then I ran towards Varrock, tried to grab a black wizard's hat and died. Nothing of value was lost, but my friend got pissed and didn't want me to touch his computer anymore.
As for me, I remember trying to kill monks with mithril battleaxe (dealing 1 damage at a time), running to wilderness in full steel armour and dying to a guy in black armour... losing my battleaxe as well. I was truly heartbroken there.
How all the nonsense over the years Ash had to deal with didn't send him to an early alcohol soaked grave is a minor miracle

A few friends showed me rs in early 2004 when i was 13 after skateboarding all day. I remember the day pretty clear lol.. I quit rs years ago, but played for over 10. So many great memories in early rs.. Probably won't be back though, i dont have time time to sit at a computer to make it worth it anymore.

I joined up as "Outkastman20" way back... Maybe... 2002, or 2003 ish. Never played OG Runescape. Even when I had Membership and they brought it back as "Runescape Classic". Heard about it from my friend down my street at the time.
GE was literally the GOD SEND update imo. Massive QOL improvement.
Then I became an adult, had to be an adult, the game got shelved until recently when I discovered OSRS Mobile. Had to make a new account though. Pretty sure my old one got deleted or probably hacked at some point being I couldn't log in. It's also possible I changed the name and password and totally forgot
Either way, I'm glad I restarted, got to stat my character properly this time around, and hitting up them old quests felt really nostalgic, even if the game isn't EXACTLY the same as before.
Despite the ups and downs, this game forever holds a place in my heart.

What's the moral of this video? I don't see a lot of differences between runescape then and now.

Ive gone back and read DOZENS of old update posts from the beginning of the game, until I got bored that night. There are quite a lot of interesting things there. However, non of this shit was mentioned. lmfao.

Im 33.. Started playin runescape when i was like 12 or 13.. I remember there was no membership... There was only 10 worlds.. No one had a 99 the closest person was bluerose13x at 98 smithing.. It was all 2D.. U could only fight in wild... And you couldnt see anyones level unless they were in the wild... No such thing as a pure... First to build pure was a dude named kappa who did it with 10 def.. 40 attack and 70-80str
