more supplies to a boss, more runes to cast spells, longer afk times. And having that on other players would be extreme. That and I just wanted to check my sub badge and too lazy to find it on the channel.

i mean, there have been plenty of updates that essentially do this. stuff like rune pouches and all

10 years from now @Colonello will be like a leading authority and chief historian on RS, he is making a short time living by playing the long game
Dwarf Fortress is a game that's run solely through players donations. I would say it's big, has very good reputation among gamers.

Dwarf Fortress is a single player game meaning it costs no or very little money to just exist, online games have to pay to exist through the cost of servers.
Edit: Dwarf Fortress also costs 30$ on steam, I don't know if it was completely free to play when you originally commented or if your comment is just some weird joke flying over my head.
@@grimreaper686 The ascii version is still free on Tarn's website. The steam version has an official graphics pack and is basically a way to support the game with that added as a bonus.
@@grimreaper686the steam release is a recent thing that's only like a year old, for the last like decade you could only get it by just downloading it for free directly from the website - and i believe you still can. the steam version is just a "support the creator" option.

Interesting and just saddens me to hear and remember when the membership cost was 5 bucks, eventually went to 8 but it was still worth it and manageable... Now hearing it's going to 12 and on top all the MTXs that rs3 has, that as much as it breaks my heart and i literally have to fight myself to go back and play it, im really sad about how RuneScape has turned into

yes the duel arena was added in 2004.
But you failed to mention the fact that players could challenge other players to a duel anywhere in the game before duel arena came out.

Those, "Click here to win a free iPod" used to be real. You'd fill out surveys, and then get an iPod in the mail. Now you have to sign up to mortgage your home or get Netflix. But I got a couple ten iPods back in the day.

Mortal online has basically been alive because of player donations. It's a subscription, but I know a lot of players like the game and company so much that always have subscription even if they aren't playing at the moment, Myself included. Kinda funny considering I find it the closest game to RuneScape.
I'll take some donation, we're putting water in our shampoo bottles.

Any free game that sells cosmetics I’d technically getting donations, well that how I think of it when I buy skins. I don’t need them and mostly only buy them to support a game I like. So to me it’s a donation.

I just restarted last week after a few years break.
Seems like the player base really has gone down and still a lot of bots.
I’m near maxed on two accounts but seems like the community is just not friendly either. After playing for 18 years on the game seems like the game doesn’t have much of a community anymore and is like a solo player game lol.

I dont remember the survey giving me anything. I vaguely remember filling it out but I was damned young at the time so could be wrong.
Or if it gave anything it likely went on the floor as I was mostly lost near lumbridge and alkarid shhh there was no minimap do remember eventually printing out a giant map so I could find my way to falador.

A survey that harvests users data and advertisements that can be blocked entirely for free with a browser extension or paid subscription are two very different things. :)

you know its weird i've never played runescape but i find these videos interesting since if I didn't have parents that supported my gaming hobby i probably would've found runescape eventually but I was on the other side I was lucky enough to get a part time job and the oild family computer to play EverQuest and DAoC then FF11.

Legally speaking, most Korean mmos list their MTX as "donation incentives". Nexon does this. Or they did at some point. I'm not reading the whole thing again.

Runescape 3 is the game where you fill out the surveys to get ahead? Huh? I mean, it's certainly monetized and obviously pay to win compared to OSRS, but the few times I've even seen a discussion about filling out surveys to get keys, everybody tells you to ignore them and that they are scams. Don't think I've ever been presented with a survey with couple thousand hours in.
Why not ask 1 of the jmods what happened to yoptin and why it didn't go live?
