I have had both central air and swamp or evaporative coolers. Swamp coolers are the way to go if you are not wanting to spend thousands each year on electricity. They cooler down a hot house much faster also.
If you want to thousands every summer and your are in a dry area, install a swamp cooler on your home. It costs a lot less than central air to have installed and way less to operate!
You can’t compare evap cooling vs refrigerated air. Coming from an hvac technician swamp coolers will never remove humidity. I’d never live in a house that had a swamp cooler. People are getting away from it for this reason. When it’s 100 it will never work.
When it gets very hot, it is often very humid also. Hot air hold more moisture. We now have central air in our apartment. I found the swamp cooler to cool things faster than the ac, but the ac does work, even when it is humid outside, but in Utah it is not very humid very often.
Yep, that's why they say use em in a area that's a bit more dry and not hitting triple digits all the time. That's what they taught me when I went to school for the trade.

Double up duracools. Works fantastic. Also, a good system for mineral build-up reduction.

Don't people only use evaporative coolers in the desert where humidity is almost never an issue? Anyway mine seemed to work just fine today at 103
It's 110 where I'm located and my swamp cooler brought the inside temps to mid 80s. I would say it's working.

That is great to hear. Those swamp cooler can move a lot of air and really help where it is dry.
