    If you're watching this video and you want to download movie and TV content to watch and serve locally in high fidelity, then iTunes isn't the key. Just go get that Kaleidescape. And make sure to buy it from my friend and affiliate Audio Advice right here. www.audioadvice.com/shop-by-brand/kaleidescape/?referral=techthusiasm Thanks!

      If you disable lossless audio in your preferences you’ll get the movie in a different ( .M4a )format .
      I’ve considered the Kaleidescape but I’ve read they’ve come close to bankruptcy on more than one occasion. I don’t want a $10,000 paperweight. I’ve read a review where the hard drive died and the company said they couldn’t replace the failed hard drive and that the customer needed to buy another unit. He got almost 6 years of use

      Any experience with downloading a vudu library to stream offline. I did download my entire iTunes library and none of my movies would play back on anything including iTunes. My vudu library is nearly 1000 movies and I would assume I have to check in with . Quality isn’t really a concern of mine. I watch most things on a $400 tv. Even SD quality would give me just a small piece of mind that I won’t always need an internet to watch.

    I’ve been buying the majority of mine on iTunes anymore except for the movies that I really like. Many of my iTunes buys are movies I want to watch and the rental price is only a few dollars cheaper than the purchase price. I try to go for the 4k disc + Blu ray + digital code on ones that I really want the disk or where I want the best quality! I’ve always been concerned about what would happen if I somehow lost my Apple account though with the digital stuff. I wish the content providers would allow more true downloads etc at full quality.

    I use iTunes v 10.9 on an old windows 10 laptop to download movies and tx series and then use m4v converter to remove the drm. It keeps asking me to update to the latest version of iTunes (which is incompatible with m4v converter) and I am stuck with the sd versions of content (as iTunes 10.9 will not download hd or movies with iTunes Extras). I then back up my purchase to an external hard dive, and the drm free version to a separate hard drive, so if Apple decide a movie is inappropriate I still have it.

  • @Nummer6
    @Nummer6 Год назад +3

    I still download every new iTunes purchase in 1080p to my old MacPro which runs iTunes (not the TV app). And everything gets backed up to an external HDD. Since my setup is 1080p I don't really mind the quality and I want to have a copy of my purchases.
    A few years ago I could run the movies through Requiem and strip them of all DRM with no quality loss. Then they got added to my Plex server. Sadly that doesn't work anymore, but there's still home sharing.
    I only buy movies on sale (with a few exceptions) and I also use Blu-ray for my favorites. If Apple should decide to go streaming-only I will certainly stop buying movies from them. Maybe a rental once in a while.

    Hey bro really interesting video. I can confirm, I bought my new 14" MacBook Pro last month and yes, the Apple TV app downloads in a HLS file now. You can't even sync that to your iPhone AND HOME SHARING on Apple TV and iPhone does not see this file. You can still AirPlay but I believe that AirPlay does not work with Match Frame Rate? I still have my 13 year old MacBook with iTunes and that STILL downloads iTunes films & TV in 1080p MP4 so what i've done is download really important films that I'd never want lose and I keep them on that old Mac along with my LaCie hard drive back up. Luckily, I've fond for the past 15 years that iTunes film buying has been a rock solid experience. Just want it to offer Dolby True HD now :)

    I started using my apple ID account in Thailand with Thai apple store. Then moved to Myanmar so I switched to US apple store. Everything has been working well until I bought a few movies and shows on Apple TV app. My previously purchased movies(a good chunk of it) just mysteriously disappeared in the apple TV app library. I reported the problem 2 times in support but it has not been resolved. I would really appreciate it if you have an advice. It really is inconvenient.
    Now I just don't want to buy anymore on their app for fear of losing what I already have.

    I got to admit though, I do prefer to simply stream the iTunes film from Apple's server as it's just so damn reliable. In the days of HomeSharing it was very hit and miss due to WiFi connection from the Mac to the router and then to the Apple TV. For the majority, this streaming method is instant and just works. For the AV guy, well, they are never happy with anything anyway :) :) :)

      Kinda new to movie collecting, I recently started, snatching up movies from Apple during the normal Tuesday $5 sales. Have you had any issues with movies getting pulled from Apple? For the 4K unless it might have change in Apple tv app maybe/ other idea is recording in 4K / you might need a newer Mac / PC / Linux with 8x core minimum for faster 4K compression video files/ my 2010 Mac5,1 is most likely not fast enough for 4K or compression from BD imaging so most likely will be upgrading hardware maybe getting a Mac mini M4 or M2 used and get M4 1-2 years later used again/ I’m now used Mac person now / other option is game capturing via elgato hdmi splitter 4K and then you can compression that recording to hopefully 25-50GB installed on a temp file of 100Gb or more of 4K recording / I was doing my recording at 720p to temp files smaller/ but after getting a 4K monitor I’m using iso or BD files of the BD 25/50GB images for play back / if want to play macgo $40/ I think Apple store has a good package for a family account I would use Ethernet myself as extra avoid an lack / makeMKV and handlebrake good for HD 1080p / under macOS 10.14 if have iSkysoft you convert 4K videos/ or final cut /

      @@Techthusiasm tried it and it works but it does require editing it to crop out the play back menu. And if you are wanting to convert an entire tv series each episode being 20 minutes long it will take months to do. Also it only works with an external capture card. Do you know if there is a way to download shows from google ( in a common format) if I rebought the episodes from there would that work. For context I’m trying to move a tv show over to my Jellyfin server. The tv show never properly got a physical release. That’s why I originally purchased from ITunes.

    I was noticing that it might be still be good to keep the old Apple TV 2/3rd models for home sharing via macOS with iTunes or Apple Music since now days Apple TV Gen 4 looks like would only pair with one iTunes library Mac to Apple TV device which wasn’t the case in past / if plex didn’t charge a fee like do now just for local server I would go that way but I most likely set up the living room for my mom with a 2010 Mac mini used which will be easier to share files or used backup of convert files / from dvd / bd iso covert them for other members of the household to keep data streaming down especially if didn’t have a home unlimited data subscription with internet/ and if did any the paid subscription videos I would only do 1-3 in a 3-6x months and if streaming will be mean for household members may have own separate plan hopefully that is only applied if /

    I know you’ve done comparisons on the audio/video bitrates of the different streaming platforms but I was wondering if you thought that iTunes movies need to be turned up louder than Vudu. I only ask because I was watching couple bond movies the other day and iTunes was definitely softer and not as impactful until I had my avr between -10 and reference. Vudu sounded louder and was more impactful and I didn’t need to go to reference or even -10. Anyone else experience this?

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  Год назад

      Yes, streaming audio itself is generally lower and needs to be turned up, especially when comparing to audio on disc or Kaleidescape. I mention this quite a bit when comparisons are mentioned.

    • @ryaneckel5601
      @ryaneckel5601 Год назад

      @@Techthusiasm All your comparisons have showed iTunes being the best and I’m clearly not hearing that now. Vudu sounds great and doesn’t need to be cranked up from what I’m getting right now

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  Год назад

      Be careful to confuse set volume with quality. iTunes Atmos tracks are usually higher bit rate than Vudu. When you do audio comparisons, you need to level match the volume then decide. One isn't better just because it is louder by default; however, if you don't level match you will generally always naturally prefer the louder option.
