Its happened to my family, it makes me so angry, they spent a lot of money on the house too. The Landlady tried to put the rent up by 100 pounds a month which my family couldn't afford, they are getting away with murder. She eventually agreed a reasonable amount but then kicked them out on a no fault eviction. My daughter is now in a new home which again she and her partner have had to spend an awful lot of money putting things right before they moved in which should be the landlords responsibility not tenants due to move in. And people wonder why I hate landlords?
S21 is like a no fault divorce, it can save a lot of grief. If S21 "no fault" evictions are abolished then other grounds will be used such as non payment of rent or anti-social behaviour. That could make it more difficult to tenants to be re-housed and increase homelessness. Not that Shelter gives a toss about tenants, of course.
Tenants don’t have a public record of their rental history, if they get evicted for not paying rent, that would have no effect on their likelihood to find somewhere else to rent
This problem stems from the fact that the government stopped building adequate affordable housing, and now mortgages are completely unaffordable for first-time buyers. Making people dependant on private landlords with forever increasing rents (not always in line with inflation). I'm not saying ban section 21. However, no fault evictions due to rent increases (above normal inflation) should be illegal. Also the 2 month notice period should be increased.
Quite right, the property belongs to the landlord, and they're the ones who get to say who can reside there or not. Funny we have a society where all ab*rtions are 'no fault', but I don't see anyone trying to ban them. People seem to want something for nothing, and don't expect to pay a market rate for a rental, but expect the government to subsidise it or provide them housing for free.
We've moved 10 times during covid... lived in hotels, trailers, couch surfing, and apartments because we lost our jobs when covid started. We did UberEATS deliveries in the heat in Vegas and worked odd jobs despite my husband's early onset Parkinson's, which he got diagnosed with in 2018 (we've moved a lot because of that, top. 16 times since 2018 total). Our lease is almost up at our apartment and we're not sure what our next move is. But we didn't stay in one spot when it all started because we knew rent would add up even if they did put a pause on it. Sucks, but it's life.
Thankfully, here in New Zealand, the new National government has seen the light and reinstating 90 day no cause evictions after the Landlord hating outgoing Labour government abolished it.
Its happening all over uk its a disgrace my dad will be homeless in a month as we just cant afford to live i the house that is falling down with damp plz government wake up 😢😢😢
She asked her landlord to "compromise" on rent when landlords NEVER can ask a Gov't to "compromise" on taxes

Landlords should be able to evict tenants for any reason. They own the property and there is so many reasons to need someone out.
Tenants can be evicted for no reason at all
Really? 😂😂😂
So cute, they can evict someone by the time they move in too?!
shelter dont pick up any bill
No fault or non payment of rent

Landlords have bills to pay and they don't have all these squatter assistance programs to help them out so evict them.

Your simplistic synopses undoubtedly doesn’t explain what’s really happened.
