From a brand and manufacturer perspective I trust way more on AYN than on AYA. Also Odin consoles since their birth has been a great experience to me. I had Odin 1 and now Odin 2 both were a blast.
I'm happy for AYN that they basically made everyone forget the Loki haha. I can't say a lot for AYA as I only got the GEEK1S as a very early bird and it came on time, and the Pocket Air I have they sent me for review...I did however buy their dock and that did take a very long time, but it wasn't one of their new products and I guess it had less demand at the time.
@-roetaka I forgive them on the Loki incident. The whole China was suddenly locked up by the Gov and you can only obey. No one can do anything at those period. Say anything to oppose and you will be in very deep trouble during that period.
Bravo. I had the first batch out of China and I loved it ever since. Brand loyalty is an important thing for me when companies do an excellent job, too many nightmares with jumping around to different brands.
Dang it! Ofcourse! I just got my odin 2, 2 days ago and they just announce this. Talk about my luck man, I would have waited had I known. Son of a handheld.
Also ordered the Pocket Evo back in August. Can’t wait for it to be shipped 🙏🏽 but in late November I have a 43 hour flight to the other side of the world, so I hope I receive the Pocket EVO before that so I can use it on the l flight 😂
well uh.. that's EXACTLY what I was looking for XD edit: then again... the Pocket EVO also looks rather tasty with that G3x Gen 2 and 8600 battery.. but... Ayaneo ehhh. Mad expensive though, but I guess it depends on thermals and software
ayaneo has some issues with the pocket Evo coming up, main thing is the drivers for the G3X gen2. switch emulation is so much worse because so many drivers just don't work. also it's $100 more than the Odin and ayaneo has a lot less reliable track record then ayn. also they have very similar hardware, but the pocket evo is 50g HEAVIER! like that's really significant.
For game streaming OLED and high refresh rate top my wish list. Looks promising, especially if it's less chonky and has better battery life than x86 handhelds.
Yeah I mean when you put a larger screen in you're redesigning the board and still have to have sticks and buttons either side. I'm assuming it'll be the size of my GEEK1S which is not a great deal bigger but the weight is what'll matter the most.
Smartphones these last years often sport screens just shy of 7", but these extra wide screens really don't help with 4:3 contents or to read anything vertically. I hate those ultrawide ratios for retrogaming. My old LG V20 with its 16:9 5.7" screen offer so much more room for these contents. As android 16:10 tablets still do...
It looks really nice, but i couldn't justify another android device on this level. The odin 2 is barely a year old if that. Ive had mine since February, i think my next one will be for windows, if i can figure out winlator i could just keep the odin 2.
Too large for an android for me. Considering how higher end emulation is pretty much blows on Android, I don’t see a point in a screen this large for it. The Odin 2 Mini is the right size for me, and I would have loved it in OLED.
@@Cpmnk This thing is about to cost atleast $400 for a base model…I wouldn’t be surprised if it starts at $450-500. I’m not about to buy a handheld that expensive for only streaming.
Odin 2 Mini with an bezel-less OLED would've been a buy for me. With how it is and all these new handhelds announced I feel like the Odin 2 Mini is looking old pretty fast.
Depends what their angle will be. We should probably anticipate a base and pro with two color options minimum, yeah I'm thinking a base model will probably be be somewhere between $300-400.
@@1234_Flux I already have a few powerful smaller handhelds. I mainly use verticals if I'm looking for a small form factor. I bought the RP5 for the bigger AMOLED screen, the full glass front and the snapdragon 865. This appears to do all of that, but better.
In terms of emulation 8 gen 3 doest do anything better emulation wise besides winlator so thats not a plus for me. I do trust Ayn mote as a company of something goes wrong. The big factor will be price. If the portal is cheaper then its a win all over for me. The big upgrade i want on my odin 2 is the OLED. Gotta say the pocket Evo does look more comfortable to hold.
I've been thinking the same thing. It's going to need to be Sub $500 to even make a lick of sense competitively, and even then, I don't know if there will be a reason to justify picking it up over a Steamdeck or Odin 2 pro. The price is going to have to be great.
You have to consider weight and battery life for a device of this size. If the Portal is say 200g lighter than the Steamdeck OLED which it very well could be, that will be really nice for longer play sessions. And then you'll likely have hours of more battery life for some of the higher end emulation and Android games. There are a lot of people who play certain games on a Deck that they'd rather do on something light or even smaller, and thanks to Winlator there is access to more PC gaming now so it's definitely making handhelds like the Portal more lucrative.
Give us 3:2 ratios, or 16:10. Not 18.5:9 or other ultrawide ratios. Retrogaming is about displaying anything from 16:9 to 1:1 ratios, ultrawide screens s**k at this. You have ultrawide 7" screens that are smaller than 5.5" 16:9 ones when displaying a PS2 game. Of course it's way easier, and cheaper, to find an AMOLED screen in the ratio most manufacturers use for smartphones nowadays... 😢
We need some good Emulator for xbox, xbox360, ps3/4 and it has to be for android... Othervise I dont see a reason to spend again 400 bucks "just" for a better Screen to play the same psx, ps2 and gamecube games
Aya Neo Pocket Evo >>> this. After the flop with the Ayn Odin Mini with heat issues and limited battery life it seems Ayn has lost its way. Bring on the Odin 3.
Still no 5G connectivity. 120hz OLED is good and all, but that's not a game changer. Not even a 7" display. Bigger and faster storage for every SKU, possibly an SSD support, because SD cards are kinda obsolete at this point. Anyone who ever tried to copy/relocate their PSX, PS2, PSP, Wii and GC library to a new device knows how long it takes. The device can abruptly terminate the connection mid-transfer, using an SD adapter is a must and that doesn't make it any faster. I'd be more enticed if it was still an IPS screen, but higher quality. Less input lag, better storage options and 5G is what I would consider a game changer.
I feel like you're projecting a problem that you and perhaps a few others have had with SD cards. SD cards are far from obsolete and the slot is added to nearly every handheld that matters for a reason. In addition, why not just keep your library on the SD card when using a different device? Use the device for metadata and applications. You'd save yourself a lot of time. I've had several android handhelds and they are among the quickest to setup.
@@JB-tp6uj I don't have many devices to use it with. But I did have quite a few SD cards that either had to be formatted due to whatever the heck was going on with it or just died on me. SD cards are meant for storage, not for frequent use. But I guess you're going to tell me how you have that one 128gb SD card from 10 years ago and it works just fine.
@@lateralol You're being a bit hyperbolic as these devices haven't been around for that long. However, I do have a few SD cards that are roughly 5 years old and they work just fine. SD cards are more than capable of running these low end games without issue. I'm not saying that SD cards can't die (especially some of the no-name cards that come with cheaper devices), but you're reaching when you say that they are obsolete. They are clearly not obsolete. They are implemented into nearly handheld both present in the future, and used by most who have a handheld device.
Well as Joey pointed out Ayaneo is slow as shit bringing anything to market, so it'll likely get killed by the Odin, AGAIN. Also Ayn is historically WAY more affordable than Ayaneo and coming from the RG556 I hate the little handle bump outs on the bottom, just makes thing less pocketable as if that's a factor here lol.
Blame qualcomm. Snapdragon 8 gen series is under high demand but the production capacity still low. Everyone need to wait in the waiting line. You don't want ayn odin use mediatek helio or dimensity isn't it?
Ayaneo support is abysmal and just hit or miss (mostly miss) with their devices. Some of their concepts are cool but executed poorly. Ie pocket dmg looks amazing but putting a track pad and an overpowered soc for the form factor is stupid. If they put a weaker chip, the price would be more accessable to everyone.
I'm not really excited about it at all, I thought it would come with the new Snapdragon microprocessor, the much rumored 8 Gen 4, but the fact that it has the already known 8 Gen 2 is disappointing. At least it should have come with the 8 Gen 3, so that it wouldn't feel like a rehash. For that, I'll stick with the standard Odin 2, which is cheaper and comes with practically the same things (except for the size). I'll keep waiting for a new Ayn console that comes with a more powerful processor.
I know what I like and I don't have many options. That comment about if you know what you like. It's a bit hampered by the fact that if you are not a Nintendo design aesthetic fan then none of these work for you at all. Like me, I am a SEGA design aesthetic fan. I prefer SEGA design. Especially for people like me who don't like the YX, BA and Switch stick cap design.
Part of that problem is that these handhelds aren't just designed to play emulation they're there for Android games, streaming apps like Game Pass, GeForce Now, Steam and Consoles etc. The design of a controller is pretty uniform across everything and that plays into the software too.
apparently AYN has produced too many chips :) I would have liked the Odin 2 to simply get an update by replacing the IPS display with an OLED display. the Odin 2 is just perfect as it is.
