Can I ask if you have considered the Ayaneo pocket Evo, I have seen a couple of comparison vids and wondered if you have an opinion on the Evo and how they stack up?
@@Paekabou I refunded my backing of the Evo when they delayed it and AYN announced the Portal. I'll try to summize my thoughts between the two quick: - They're both very powerful devices, but the Portal's 8Gen2 has more driver support and so is a bit more flexible for certain emulators and apps in terms of performance and compatability. The Evo's battery is a touch bigger but I don't know about the efficiency. - I think the Portal was a lot cheaper at the time with its early bird pricing. At retail it's still a bit cheaper. - Size wise, the Portal is a bit slimmer and 50g lighter, that can make a big difference for longer gaming sessions. - Ergonomically, after receiving the Portal I can say I prefer it a lot more. I have an AYANEO GEEK1S and it's literally the same form factor as the EVO, so I know that out the gate it's quite comfy to hold as it has chunkyish grips and it has full size joysticks, but I'm not a big fan of its kinda flat feeling dpad and the face buttons are sorta small and close together. You can buy a grip for the Portal which will put it on par comfort wise (I kinda like that I can have it slim or with grip for preference) and you can buy joystick tops to replace the original that make them feel more like full size sticks, the dpad and buttons imo are bigger and better too. I've seen some comparisons where people have preferred the EVO, imo the Portal comes out on top but yeah if you're still on the fence keep looking out for videos to compare the two.
@-roetaka thank you for that! I wanted an Odin 2 for so long just wishing it had OLED, so when I heard about the Portal I was sold. I was hoping the Evo wouldn't make me have to make any difficult decisions. Sounds like the Portal is as awesome as I'd like it to be. So Im still on team Portal! ... now, just have to sell my kidney and I'm set! 😅
Lost planet was so good back in the day. I was in my dad’s clan with his buddies and he’d let me skip school once in a while and order pizza we’d hangout all day and it would be our secret when they needed an extra member
I remember playing a demo of Lost Planet thinking wow this is next gen, but I didn't get a 360 or good enough PC for so long to play it. But it's such a jam, and Lost Planet 2 is one of my favourite co-op games of all time. Never played 3 lol. I wish Capcom did something with this series again.
Very informative and also relaxing to listen to, enjoyed the video! Would love to upgrade screen wise from the Odin 2 at some point, but the glass front makes me nervous 😬
I have seen a company making a screen protector that fits the whole glass front kinda like the Retroid Pocket 5's, but I know very little about its efficiency.
With an Android system I am usually grabbing everything from my last Android device and putting it onto the next. There's a lot I put on these so it does take some time to just reconfigure and add things, like making controller profiles in emulators because of additional buttons and the like in RetroArch etc, or adding all my Switch saves etc. If I wasn't making videos I'd probably take longer to do it but it does take alot of my day to setup and test. If this was full time and I was getting handhelds all the time and having to set it up I think I'd have mad fatigue by now and need a faster way to set things up haha, but for now I do enjoy the feeling of building that "ultimate" handheld.

According to reviews and benchmark tests, the AYN Odin 2 typically scores around 3,672 to 3,900 on the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme benchmark, showcasing its strong graphical performance and ability to handle demanding games smoothly. According to available benchmarks, a Steam Deck OLED typically scores around 2900 - 3000 on a 3DMark Wild Life Extreme test. I know benchmarks aren't everything, but the Steam Deck isn't the automatic answer in life and is frankly an underperformer compared to many of the modern options available now.

Is there a side loader or update that is required? Have been waiting to hear your thoughts on the Portal. thanks for the great videos, especially on the Odins, which are my favorite retro devices
If you own the game on PC you can use this github.com/blake502/balatro-mobile-maker to make an APK from the game files and side load that to your device.

For some Switch games absolutely, for Winlator definitely. Would also help with Wii U and Vita but both those emulators haven't had updates for a while. But if your goal is to do Gamecube, Wii, PS2 and some light Switch then the RP5 has got you covered.
How does it compare to the performance of the steam deck? I keep looking at this device and I’m having trouble justifying buying it since I already have a steam deck. Is there a compelling reason?

Hey RoeTaKa! I am waiting for my Portal to ship in and want to use Pegasus over ES-DE. I see the desktop version can "auto-import" games and metadata from EmulationStation... Not sure if this translates to the Android build of Pegasus and ES-DE. Have you tinkered around with this and got it to work? Or, do you manually build all your metadata files whenever you add games? Thanks!
Hi! I remember when I started using it the build of Pegasus that auto did everything wasn't very good, but it probably got better so it might be worth a try. I manually did everything so I got all the metadata and scraped all the art with an app called Skraper. I'll choose Vulkan instead of OpenGL for the renderer, and some of the stuttering can be fixed by turning on GPU Palette Conversion in the advanced settings.
People have complained about the one AYN sells not sticking down on the edges properly and it only covers the screen portion, so if you were to crack the glass on either side it could extend into the screen anyway so idk about that.
