I didn't think I'd care to play switch games on it when I first ordered it but now I'm more excited to just play the switch versions of all the indie games I have on steam and also just excited to tinker with all the switch games
Yeah I actually did that too, made a list of all the games I have on Steam that should run on handhelds like these and got them for those instead. As an example I played all of Resident Evil HD on my Odin 2 and it ran great with an amazing battery life compared to a PC handheld.
Imo the RP5 is ideal for playing retro systems from PS2 to the past. More modern ones (PS3, PS4, Switch era systems) that have detailed graphics I'll go with my Steam Deck Oled. Is the perfect combo. Having more than 2 devices is nonsense for me.
Man getting recommendations and instructions how to install Mods/Roms and all these programs would be wonderful to see for someone new to the retro handheld gaming space like myself. 😅
I think I might sell my Odin 2 and an Anbernic and get the Odin Portal. I’ve been streaming onto a PS Portal recently and with the 8” screen, it makes the Odin 2 feel tiny. With the light weight and decent battery, I want to play PS5/Portal more. Now I miss emulation though and seeing the RP5’s gorgeous OLED screen, I’m thinking how great the Odin Portal would be.
This seems awesome, but I'm having quite some concerns about the position of the left joystick. It feels like it shouldve been position-swapped with the D-pad. I suspect this will give me quite a bit of handcramps otherwise haha
It just hast the perfect size and form factor for an android device imo. If they make a "pro version" of this in the future with a snapdragon gen8, this would be the one and done device (maybe they should put the joystick on top for that) for a lot of people, I am just not interested in this bigger android devices.

Had you tried Luigi’s mantion 2 hd won’t run just crashes on yuzu and sudatchi also my right speaker at close or max volume has a slight high pitch sound just with certain games like jak 2
A question, the new anbernic rg34xx has come out, it says that it reaches a perfect 3x pixel ratio, but if on a low-end device it reaches 3x, on the retroid pocket 5 shouldn't it be much higher in addition to the quality of the OLED screen?
So perfect ratio is a different matter, like for example if I used integer scaling on the retroarch games it might not exactly fit the entire screen so that it perfectly represents how the game actually looked. It doesn't bother some people but some people will like devices with perfect ratios for some systems.
ok I understand, the graphic improvement is something basically... that can also appear on screens that are not perfectly proportioned to the screen originally designed for proportion to the game being played and this depends on the power of the console that emulates a system (like retroid pocket mini that emulates psp), the proportions that are talked about on anbernic... are not video quality... but pixel ratio to magnification, as it is exactly possible on that console to multiply by 3x while always having the same proportions of width and height of the screen, maintaining the original graphics of the device but larger. the anbernic I was talking about has a 3.4 screen while retroid pocket 5 has a 5.5 so can the retroid pocket 5's reach up to a x5 perfect pixel ratio? (sorry I know they may seem like stupid questions, but for those who are just starting out it's a bit complicated 😅)@@-roetaka
@@F.D.R48483 In my video if you check out PSP or Switch for example you'll see the image perfectly fits the size of the screen. Well not quite for PSP, PSP game resolution is apparently 480x272, at 4x that resolution it is 1920x1088, the RP5 screen is 1920x1080 so it's actually 8 pixels off the vertical size of the screen...but I really can't imagine that bothering someone as 8 pixels is so small 😅. Now for Game Boy Advance the game resolution is 240x160, this doesn't scale perfectly to a 1920x1080 screen and without stretching we have to accept that there will be space each side of the screen not used, if you wanted to you could stretch the screen and for some people it doesn't bother them and they even prefer it, but others prefer the games as they remember without stretching or artifacts. But with the RG34XX the Game Boy Advance will scale perfectly as it is a 720x480 screen (3x the original GBA)...however, even though that screen doesn't have as many pixels as the RP5's screen, it will still look great because it will use the entire screen and look very crisp. GBA on a 1080 screen scales to 6.75x the original at 1620x1080, so that is over double the scaling of the RG34XX's screen, but it's not a perfect scale. So what does that mean? Well a pixel is a pixel, you're not making it look any better by making it bigger you're just stretching it to scale with the display you're using. For an RP5 user, if you're not using the black model it's obvious that you've got some black bars on the sides of your screen where it doesn't scale and that can annoy some people. As you dive into handhelds you realize there is no one device that plays everything because of screen sizes and resolutions without making sacrifices. But for someone that wants the perfect GBA style handheld then the RG34XX is going to fit that niché as well as a good hit of nostalgia. But for me? if I have an RP5 I don't need an RG34XX, I would take that 1080p OLED screen any day.
As someone who prefers to use the joystick and has large hands I think the Odin 2 I just bought will outweigh the other pros of the RP5. I have the RP3+ and while I love it I can’t play for very long without my hands cramping. Also kinda wish the Odin 2 Portal was the same size as the Odin 2! Ergonomics seem to have been sacrificed but let’s see what the final retail unit brings…
How can i get es-de or any front end to load straight into ps2 or ps1? Every game i choose goes to the emulators game selection screen. All other consoles are fine, just not ps1&2
Do you have the bios files installed? Make sure the emulators are pointing to the correct roms and bios before trying to open games through a front end
It's like a deja vu moment for me as I ended up playing the Retroid Pocket 3+ over the Odin Pro. The Odin2 is definitely more comfortable and has near double the battery life but it looks so bulky to me now, and that RP5 screen is just amazing. But I'll probably go through all this again when the Odin2 Portal comes out with its own OLED screen.

I hope you get yours soon! I'm using vita thumbcaps, should be easy to find on amazon or ebay, just make sure they don't look to thin as I think there's two kinds, mine are a little taller and I think that's necessary to wrap onto the stick as it's quite a tight fit.

One point on the charging, most devices slow the charging rate down when you're on the last 10-20% of the charge to go (i.e. some time after the battery gets to 80%). The only real way to tell the 0 - 100% charge time is to actually do it.

Hi RoeTaKa, i think that im having the same right speaker issue as you mentioned in your video. sounds a bit rattley and distorted at certain frequencies. did your re-seating of the speaker end up staying fixed? did you happen to get any footage from the fix?
The Retro Tech Dad has a teardown of the device in his review if you need to see that. The inside is incredidbly modular, it's actually very good, I had to tight up the screwed on the analog stick and just check the speaker was in properly. After that it's worked fine.
Well these are designed with a high performance mode that takes advantage of the power with the active cooling. There probably is a way to jack it up like if it was rooted and stuff but that's for someone with way more know how than me, and I swear people have tried but it never stuck.
@-roetaka taking rp5 is probably the most logical way, if you just want to emulate things. Mentioning the fact that these handhelds can max out their performance is totally a huge win comparing to sd 888 or 8 gen 1 phones, with better architecture and efficiency. Phone manufacturers purposely reduced the performance of the cpu because of battery management and heat management. Edit: I've watched a video, with overclock sd 855 and it outperform 8 gen 1.
Blasphemous 1 just got an official port on the play store, so if you like souls likes and/or Metroidvanias definitely try that out (And with winlator, I'm pretty sure blasphemous 2 is playable)
The RP4 Pro isn't far off from the performance of the 5...I honestly couldn't recommend someone get a 4 Pro knowing the 5 exists now. But if your goal was to save money I'd recommend the regular 4 over the 4 Pro, the 4 can still do a bunch of PS2 and things. But it depends what you wanna buy one for honestly, there are some great handhelds that work best for certain consoles and experiences.
@@-roetaka my intent would be to spend a maximum of 250 euros and I was undecided between retroid pocket 4 pro and retroid pocket 5 because I think they are the best in this price range, that's all.
cant get slang shaders to show up only the GLSL ones and when I look in the slang folder there's no contents in any folders. you got any idea? EDIT: figured it out!
Does anyone know what my problem is, I'm running 8gen3 leading and I've seen many people getting good results playing assassin's creed ezio collection, some run it well on the 7gen2, I own the original game and have tried 2 different patches for the game I've also tried nearly 20 different drivers from turnip to some obscure ones, the game boots, the menu displays then quits, funnily enough if I use no driver at all the game boots and I can play it but the grafical graphical glitches are plenty Cheers
I want to get the rp5 but i feel like they gonna drop the pro version when i buy the regular version. Also, whoever designed the odin 2 screen corners , needs to be fired.
@@-roetakayes I am I hope you can get your hands on these new ayaneo devices sometime as they are above and beyond of what ever got from Ayn in terms of build quality and materials used
I recommend using the ps1 swanstation core on retroarch over duckstation. It's basically duckstation but on retroarch. It seems to run fine, has the shaders and extra stuff too. I had a TON of problems with the duckstation not mapping to some frontends but retroarch version works great and you already set up the hotkeys. I've been playing Tenchu and Silent Hill 1 like mad on it and haven't had any issue.
If you can tell me where you can purchase or where the original developers sell and distribute over 95% of the games in that number I'll allow this comment to exist.
You should try getting the pre loaded shaders for Deus EX and then see how it runs, I've been wanting to play that game for awhile this just might be how I do it

After that it's worked fine.
where u can have pegasus sdcard? and the zelda link in the past widescreen mod..thank you
oh its a frontend...i googlesearch pegasus and it points me to a spyware pegasus XD
yes
Can you suggest a guide on installing winulator on this device? Thanks this was a great video that helped me decide to buy one.
Yes, the RetroTechDad has a good guide for this - ruclips.net/video/m9BZlqctRow/видео.html
@@-roetakathanks a lot! Your videos are super helpful; i appreciate you.
wait what? it can emulate Switch Games? All of them or is it limited to the indie ones?
I think it can emulate the less requiring switch games
great size, compact, and it is like a vita man
and iphone 5 feel of the grips
The Vita buttons ironically fit this device lol You can switch out the dpad for example with the Vita's
Please tell me there are screen protectors for cus hollllly hell id be tripping all day and end up not using it cus ill be cleaning it more often.
Does your unit have light bleed near the d pad looks like it at about 20 mins.
Ah no it's just the way the lighting is reflecting, it's perfectly ok
Does it have DEJ JAM Fight For NY?
I wonder if you're willing to overclock it? Since it has active cooling system anyway.
Blasphemous 1 just got an official port on the play store, so if you like souls likes and/or Metroidvanias definitely try that out
(And with winlator, I'm pretty sure blasphemous 2 is playable)
What is the launcher you are using?
I talk about it at 9:00 it's Pegasus
@-roetaka okay ty
so, for a "first purchase" of a handheld, do u reccomend this or RP4 Pro?
I also have aethersx2 v3668. It works great. What am I missing by not patching to Neathersx2?
Hmm primarily removal of adds and some supposedly improved functionality.
What’s the battery life like?
what theme are you using?
cant get slang shaders to show up only the GLSL ones and when I look in the slang folder there's no contents in any folders. you got any idea?
EDIT: figured it out!
Hmm not sure, like I said I had to download the shaders that appeared at the bottom of online updater and then when I checked again they appeared.
Dang I already setup daijisho but pegasus looks amazing tempted to swap to it
Does this have the arcade version of Gauntlet?
You have to get your own roms.
you're the GOAT!
What game is that at @46:29 ?
It's Resident Evil HD, I'd just mentioned those 3 games so I didn't think I'd need to title them 😅
Can you link the console to a TV?
Can it stream? I would kill to play halo/skate 3/ gta on it!
Yeah I use yuzu and citra over sudachi and lime.
I dont like the Black One and wanted the Gamecube Version but 4:3 with these Black Bars is nice
I have no idea what this video talked about, but I'm googling pictures of Android 18 for some reason now ... >_>
Aahh my movie has started...
Is it better than using a ps vita?
Does anyone know what my problem is, I'm running 8gen3 leading and I've seen many people getting good results playing assassin's creed ezio collection, some run it well on the 7gen2, I own the original game and have tried 2 different patches for the game I've also tried nearly 20 different drivers from turnip to some obscure ones, the game boots, the menu displays then quits, funnily enough if I use no driver at all the game boots and I can play it but the grafical graphical glitches are plenty
Cheers
I want to get the rp5 but i feel like they gonna drop the pro version when i buy the regular version. Also, whoever designed the odin 2 screen corners , needs to be fired.
Alex get the Aya Neo pocket Evo you won’t be disappointed 😊
I cancelled my order when AYN decided to upgrade the Odin2 Portal battery. AYA shouldn't have delayed the EVO like they did :/
@ get it again it’s totally worth the money
I sold all my Ayn devices and am rocking the Miyoo mini, the DMG and the Evo :-))) ❤
@@Zenmaster911 I am fairly confident the Odin2 Portal will better for me than the Evo but I'm glad you're having fun 🙏
@@-roetakayes I am I hope you can get your hands on these new ayaneo devices sometime as they are above and beyond of what ever got from Ayn in terms of build quality and materials used
"doesn't leave a terrible amount to discuss" proceeds to make a 50 minute video discussing it
Lol yeah that's why I turned it into a "What's on my" video
Not a good way to test battery charging speed. Charging from 90-100% will be the slowest charge speed as it gets closer to being full.
Gollum title reference? Preciouuuusss
Awesome.
The ergonomics would be better 1" lower down, gods help anyone with big hands
I recommend using the ps1 swanstation core on retroarch over duckstation. It's basically duckstation but on retroarch. It seems to run fine, has the shaders and extra stuff too. I had a TON of problems with the duckstation not mapping to some frontends but retroarch version works great and you already set up the hotkeys. I've been playing Tenchu and Silent Hill 1 like mad on it and haven't had any issue.
I have FF7 New Threat in widescreen. Weird
It's not true widescreen though it's just stretching a 4:3 image to 16:9.
Before watching
Came to see if you have your rosalina wallpaper for your wii still, lmao
People are stealing 10.000 games and proudly putting that on internet. What a time to be alive.
If you can tell me where you can purchase or where the original developers sell and distribute over 95% of the games in that number I'll allow this comment to exist.
@@-roetaka 5% is still enough for one nice lawsuit from Nintendo. I hope.
@@banemiticand if those are legit backed roms?
@@-roetaka Yes. Putting few game boxes in the corner of the frame during filming makes everything legal.
test games like black with 60 fps patches please
B R A Z I L
Might as well just buy a used switch lite for 70 bucks and have it modded for another 70, it will run way better
Outlook like Psvita
Wow it has PS1 Metal Gear and Resident Evil.....Sold!!!
You should try getting the pre loaded shaders for Deus EX and then see how it runs, I've been wanting to play that game for awhile this just might be how I do it
