That’s defiantly a big change & you will do great as long as you did your research to make sure Radiology is what you really wanted 🙏🏽
Michael `s theatre II Tips
1. Take all the keys to every machine just in case yours stops working
2. Let the surgeon decide where the II comes from , where the Monitor should go, don’t assume
3. If the body part is over the steel table base, or the metal table edge, or gaps in the foam table are in the way then -solution- Move the patient.
4. Beware sandbags , can be put under hips/ chest by inexperienced theatre staff
5. Set a manual kv for extremities -so that even if you come in and are centred in the wrong place , the image will be correctly exposed. Otherwise if your going in and out, over the body part, even slight miss centering, will result in a black/ underexposed image, because it will give a fresh air exposure eg 44kv ( which would not get through a finger). Generally hand 52kv, ankle 57kv, knee/ shoulder 62k , then tweek it. I once I had a student who never centred bang in the middle once, for an ankle op . The surgeon didn`t notice. The foam table makes 2 kv difference. Some machines require the first exposure to be on the AED.
6. The ii has an obese button, which is the maximum mA output, find out where this is. If this doesn’t work and the image is black - still under exposed , the only thing you can do is try and use the Monitor brightness/contrast - this may well not work ! there`s nothing you can do !! with this machine.
7. Save all the images- make this a habit- you don’t know which operation turns out wrong, even though it seems ok at the time
8. If your doing AP and Lateral, every time you go to the other position , swap the image over on the monitors. So you always keep an AP on one side, and a Lateral on the other. This takes concentration.
9. The worst problem is obesity with osteoporosis. Obesity means the II will use a high KV eg 110kv ,so LOW contrast. The bones will be very hard to see, because they don’t have any bone in them ! If the surgeon is moaning explain this LOL I had the same problem with AP hip on a young man- biggest muscular thigh in England.
10. Expect the first image to be wrong, wrong place , wrong orientation. Move the wheels in the direction you want to go, either towards head/ foot or in/out , make it easy for yourself , move in each direction in turn, and you will get where you want to be. Small movement`s to keep control.
11. Don’t let the surgeons use the flat II surface to apply a wet Plaster of Paris, unless you cover it first with a plastic bag, or water will get into it and it will go bang !
12. For hips / DHS cover the tube ( under the table/ hip) with a plastic bag ,so blood doesn’t get into it.
13. You can get a lateral of the humerus, femur with the patient flat ( both legs down) on the table if you come in sideways, from the opposite side, and angle 70 degrees. and the body part ( shoulder/ hip/ femur) is right over the edge of the table ( so the metal table sides are not in the way)
14. If you leave the theatre for a break ( very long case) always tell someone whose sterile ( surgeon/ scrub nurse) where you will be, just in case they suddenly need you back.
15. Only ask the surgeon a question when hes not doing something dangerous e.g. with a drill.
16. At the end of the operation get a clear answer you are finished BEFORE you remove the sterile xray cover.
Thank you for sharing 🙏🤝🥰🥰🇹🇭

Love your videos! So, my question is a strange one. I am a high school teacher for 26 years and I’m wanting to move into healthcare. I love love my students, but I’m considering something new in the next few years. Would you advise someone like me to go to radiology tech school? I love people, definitely can work hard, long hours, and I think on the fly all day long. Lol! I would love to get paid by the hour, maybe earn something called PTO time, and have a rewarding career that pays well. 😊
Hi Jennifer
Ok so getting into this field would be a tough transition to be honest because it’s a physical career.
You will get over worked most of the times and the hours are so so difficult.
Hours of work will be evenings, Weekends, on-call, holidays which can be hard.
I would recommend looking into PTA (Physical Therapy Assistant) same 2 year program & they get paid alittle more than radiology plus it’s a great work/life balance.
Especially if your married with kids. PTA no on-call , No overnights , No Code Blue usual work 8:00-4:30 no evenings shifts.
Hope this helped 🙏🏽
Starting classes in summer and truthfully ima little scared, because I’ll also be doing activities for my religion as well

I love all your videos it's very really and you always have good advice. I do have a question for any travel radiology technologist do you have to be certified in each state you're assigned to?
Hi 👋 Ashley
Thank you for watching and supporting hope your also subscribed 🙏🏽
Ok so your only have to be Certified by ARRT but most states require a State License to work in that state but you don’t have to re-test you just have to submit paperwork so they can verify that your a certified technologist.
Great question and video on that coming soon 🙂

I Juan, love your channel. When you went through Radiology Technology school did you have learn very much about MRI physics or CT? The reason I ask is because I haven't started radiography school yet and I'm trying to prep for my upcoming radiographic physics class. I noticed the the channel Radiology Tutorials has an MRI physics playlist but I don't want to waste my time studying that stuff if I'm not going to be tested on it. Would you advice studying up on MRI and CT in preparation for a first year radiographic physics class?
Yo

Thank you so much 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thanks for the video. For clínicals does the schedule/shifts change as you change clinical sites? I know my program we will be working at multiple sites so I was curious about that. Also does the clinicals follow the school schedule? So if the school recognizes holidays/breaks, does the clinical instructor recognizes it also? And when you actually start working in the field are all shifts available? I would like to work part time and mid shifts around 11AM-6/7. Thank you
Yo!
Thanks for stopping by and watching hopefully you subscribed and hit that notifications 🛎 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Yes all that your concerned about is just how you expect it. Usually the clinical hours are based on school hours if you go to a public college but if you go to a private college than they can mess with your clinical hours and give you evening or even weekends.
Also when your done basically you can pick your shift because there’s so many openings right now.
Hadir brother...sucses trus
Thank you friend 🙏🏽🙏🏽
the community college I am in has an X-RAY technologist 2-year college A/S/ degree I enrolled in.
it's competitive to get in. but so what, that's Life. go after what you want.
Your absolutely correct ‼️💪🏽💯

i have a small question. if i didn’t take a+p in high school, will i struggle with it during the program? the program i am applying for does not require you to have taken a+p in hs, but i do worry i will have issues with it since i have no prior knowledge. thank you so much!!

🙏🏽🙏🏽🙂
Thanks for the video it was very insightful! I'm new to your channel. In a hospital setting how many hours a week do you including "on call"?
Do you get extra compensation for working when on call?
Working a rotational shift, in a typical week, would that consist of all days shifts, all night shift, or a mixture of both in a typical week?
Yo!
Welcome & I hope you consider subscribing & 🛎 🙏🏽
Ok so when you start working you sign a contract or you apply for a certain shift.
They can’t change your shift hours unless you choose to pick up overtime.
Ex…if you applied for a day shift position and they give it to you than those are your hours but they can’t switch your hours to say overnight because that’s not what you applied for.
Now you can choose to work overnight or weekends to pick up overtime.
Usually you get paid $3 hr just for being on-call but if you get called in you get time/half.
@JuanMotiv8s thanks for that! I'm subscribed..
On average, how often do you come in on call at the hospital setting?
@@Gameoloupolis every hospital has its own on-call policy so it honestly depends where you work.
Hi! So I made this to the program yay! The thing is I am not sure if I want to do this for the rest of my life. I start clinical next semester and I am very nervous. I am also stuck between dental hygiene and xray tech. Dental hygiene in Illinois makes 75k$ a year in Illinois. Rad Tech only 60k$. I know not everything is about money but I am stuck between 2 carriers. I want to have stable job and decent pay and help my parents. Any advices? Can I have both jobs tho? Thank you for your response.
Hi
Yes absolutely you can do both but if you had to choose 1 I would say do Dental hygienist because of better work/life balance.
Xray you can make more money because you can have 2 full time jobs.
I full time is 3 12 hrs & you have 4 days off which gives you the opportunity to work at another facility & you can’t do that to much in Dental Hygienist.
If you want to do both do xray first and then Dental Hygienist because you can work only weekends in Radiology and be off Mon-Fri and go to Dental Hygienist program while making good money.
Then after you have both careers you won’t feel stuck.
Hopefully my comment helped and you consider subscribing 🙏🏽
Hey did you end up choosing? I’m on the same boat as you 🫤
I appreciate ur video. I'm thinking about doing this and I'm really not a school person but I need to do something with my life. This interest me and the pay is good enough. On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard was it to really grasp and learn the information? Was the material actually hard or is it alot of remembering?
Hi 👋 Neshia
Welcome 🙏🏽
Thanks for watching
Please remember to Subscribe, Watch & Like 👍🏽 my videos it helps reach more people 🙏🏽
Ok so this is the wrong approach for choosing a career as far as “The Pay Is Good Enough” because even though the pay is good sometimes it’s not worth it you have to do more research which is what your doing & your smart for that.
I want to help you make the best career choice for you now & for your future so follow me on TikTok under same name “Juanmotiv8s” comment on one of my videos or message me.
I got you 🙏🏽
i’m thinking about going to school this year. When you learn in school is it mixed in with high school too? like math and stuff or do they strictly focus on being a radiologist because i’m tired of the math and stuff like that i wanna learn how to work the machines and everything only. is it like that?

Ok so when you choose a certain career like Radiology Technologist you have to take prerequisites before you get accepted into the program which are classes like:
Anatomy 1 & 2
College Algebra
Microbiology
ect…
Then when your done with all the prerequisites and get accepted into the Radiology Technologist program there’s also more anatomy and radiology physics so it’s not just working with machines.
Hope this helped 🙏🏽
I’m planning to be a Rad Tech, I’m not the smartest person around but I am average, though is there a way I can start studying radiology tech as soon as now to be ready when school starts? This is probably a year prior to my enrollment. Just want to be ahead of the curve

Ok so I honestly would suggest not to pre study but to try and shadow at your local hospital if they let you so you can have an idea of what we do on a daily basis.
Also, there’s plenty of careers in the medical field to choose from that have more opportunities.
Hope this helped 🙏🏽
So, I have a bachelor's in science but I'm interested in RAD technology. I already work in a hospital and I have some exposure to indirect patient care. I know my anatomy, math and other related topics.
Would it be possible for me to start on a RAD technology job? I don't know if there's such a thing as "on the job" training while getting ready to get certified?
Thanks!
Yo
Sup Drake
Unfortunately No there’s no on the job training for Radiology or anything that I know of.
You would have to go to the program and take the National ARRT REGISTRY to be able to do Radiology.
Not sure if you’ve already covered it, but can you do a video on how to get accepted during an interview panel for the rad tech program? How can i stand out from others? Do i need to know the hospitals around my area and how many patients they xray a day? Stuff like that. Thanks man
Great Topic
I got you soon
So please subscribe & 🛎 that way you know when I dropped it
Thank you 🙏🏽
@@juanmotiva8s959 thanks man! Also, would it help to shadow a tech before the actual interview so that way u already have that experience. Do u think that matters during the interview?
Honestly it wouldn’t hurt
I have a family member who is now 5 years into his Rad Tech career. He told to stand out you should volunteer in a hospital in your field of study and shadow a tech to give you insight on what the interview panel may ask about your knowledge base. He also worked part time in a related field prior to getting accepted while in school like a medical assistant for a X Ray facility.
Try to put yourself out there in clinics, hospitals, offices or wherever related to the Rad Tech field.
Volunteer is kind of tough when you need finances, but my cousin did that when he was younger right off high school. But then again you can always work part time in the health care field.
Good luck in your career studies!
Very good advice 💯🙏🏽
So if school is 8 to 5 everyday from Monday to Friday, are clinicals part of that 8 to 5 or is it extra hours or how does it work? I'm worried that I won't have time for a part time job to help my mom with rent and stuff like that, but I could also only work weekends I'm not sure yet lol

Sometimes we feel like it’s greener on the other side without really taking time to evaluate our current position.
@@juanmotiva8s959 That is true!
My current career has been in the construction industry for the last 10 years. It has been rough! Layoff after layoff when the job slows is not easy on a family. I am looking to find something that is more stable and that doesn’t require a bachelors degree.
Hi! I'm a senior in high school and am very interested in going into radiology. However, none of my family members have gone into the medical field or have gone to school before. Ok so every program has different hours but all take 100% Full Time Commitment!
Because the program is not easy and you need time for clinicals and study time 📚.
To give you an example of how hard it is most programs start with 20 students and at the end only about 8 survive 👀
Hope this helped 🙏🏽
super random question, but do radiologic technicians deal with needles/blood? I am interested in this field however I don't really want to work in a field that deals with a lot of blood and having to use needles.
Honestly no unless you go into CT or MRI then yes because you have to start IV’s & inject contrast but in general X-Ray no.

Ok so I always recommend is look into a Public College & try to stay away from Private Colleges.
Private colleges are way too expensive and your school credits don’t transfer.
Should I take student loans for my community college? It’s about 29k per year before aid and after aid it’s about 18k and it’s a two year program plus the prerequisites I need
or go for dental hygiene at a different school and most likely need no student loans, i’m not very ecstatic about this career but i’m considering it.
That’s definitely not a Community College Tuition price 👀👀

Stuck between radiography, and surgical tech. I didn't see many job postings for xray around my area, but saw some for surgical tech. Would you say that xray is a saturated market? Is it difficult to find a job?

Ok so if your asking me for my opinion I would say Radiology, Surgical Tech is rough they get yelled by the surgeon all the time & you have to stay the whole case from 1-5 hours on your feet no sitting and that tough on your legs and knees.
Radiology it’s better.
Job market for both is GREAT all over the USA 🇺🇸 ‼️
Hoped this helped 🙏🏽

hey man i’ve been watching your videos and i still just have a few questions.. i had my mind set on sonography for the longest now and after applying for the program ive realized i’m into radiography instead. im just missing 2 prerequisites so i should be able to apply next year. however, going into the program am i learning everything? i specifically wanna get into MRI since it doesn’t involve radiation. at what point in time do i get into that?
Radiology Technologist is your foundation so start there.
Once your a certified Radiology Technologist there’s schools that you can go into MRI right away some are 6 months and in FL Miami there’s a school that you can become an MRI or CT TECH within 3 months.

Is the 2 year degree in radiologic technology used to become a radiation therapist?
It can be
2 years of Radiology Tech school & then you can migrate to a Radiation Therapy program which is one year once your Rad Tech Certified.
hello great video by the way, so I want to play basketball for a college, do you think it’ll be manageable to be in a rad tech program while also playing for a collegiate team?

Ok so honestly No
It’s kinda hard to be in the program full time and be part of a team do to the fact that it’s a 2 year program which you have class work and hospital duties (Clinicals) so that make it hard for you as far as you with practice & games.
But I’m sure there always exceptions plus who knows if you go D1 and get drafted only GOD knows 🙏🏽
@@juanmotiva8s959thank you for honest opinion and kind words will definitely recommend you to other people interested in the field God bless!
I am a Middle AGED man looking for a new career change?? Trying to decide between this and PTA. I am getting a tad old lol

I will be honest with you I would definitely go for PTA!
Better work/life balance & they get paid very well.

@@juanmotiva8s959 , I am mid 40s and not getting any younger and i have chronic back problems. The school wants 40,000 for 18 months for PTA.
There’s no public schools near by?
If not PTA is way better for you than X-ray because we do alot of pulling and pushing and we stand for long periods of time.
PTA is your best bet even at $40k you will pay that off.
Do you have to take vitals and everything like nursing does?

Ok so that all depends on where you work. Hospital 🏥 jobs no we don’t do vitals but if you work at an urgent care than yes you do medical assistant duties along with X-rays.
Hope this helped 🙏🏽
I’m confused. My community college offers Medical Radiologic Technology AAS Degree. But it says it qualifies you for two other programs when completed. After the Medical Radiologic Technology AAS Degree are you a rad tech?

No criminal records? I have a felony criminal record but it’s from 9 years ago. Perhaps because they are short staffed they’ll hire me anyway?
Ok so no you can’t have a criminal record especially a felony. Don’t matter how short staff hospitals are that won’t happen, because of the fact that we have access to information and medication 💊 so they do a deep background check.
Again, anything is possible so you never know 🙏🏽
What are your thoughts on studying clinical laboratory science?
Welcome Jerad 🙏🏽

Clinical Laboratory 🥼 is honestly cool. All your do is run the blood work make sure everything if done correctly.
You don’t draw the blood 🩸 all your do is stay in a room which I think is nice because there’s no Patient interaction.
They get paid very well too around $75K per year or more depending on where you live.
Hope this helped 🙏🏽
Great video. What school did you attend. I live in New York City. Which school would you recommend?

You will start with 25 students and only about 10-12 stay until the end because it’s not easy.
Hoped this helped 🙏🏽
@@juanmotiva8s959 it did Thankyou ! Liked subscribed and followed
When you get accepted into the program, are you in class the whole first semester or you do to the clinical immediately?
Usually that’s how ks works but some schools are different.
Ex…Keiser University in FL is a Private college and they do like 3 months straight class work & 3 months only clinical rotations.
I think thats tough on the student.
Usually state/public colleges on a typical week is 3 days clinicals and 2 days class work so if you saw something at clinicals that week you know your going back to class so you can ask your professors questions.
Thank you so very much for the reply. Here is one of your new subscriber 😊
