I lived in Europe for a few years and discovered these washer/dryer in one units. LG didn’t invent them, and in fact, they’ve existed since the 1950s. I had one in my apartment and they work, but you have to wash a significantly smaller load or take considerably longer. Because of how they work when you open them at the end your clothing feels wet, but if you shake it out it then is actually dry (relative humidity or something like that). Last tidbit is that if you don’t take your clothing out right away it will be a very wrinkled mess. I’ll happily stick with two units after my 18 months of experience using a combo unit.
Mine has a particularly large drum. If you filled it to the max with the heaviest wet things you could think of like a drum of bath towels, it would probably dry them in about 3.5 hours on high. I've noticed that slight dampness before you take it out and give it a shake. I usually dry my clothes on low for 3hrs since I dont like overdrying. Small loads would get bone dry if you left it on that long though. I'll say every other washer dryer I've had wasn't this capable with those typical bug bears much more prominent. All that said, if I had room in my current place I'd have two separate units.
4:19 We've had a washer/dryer combo more than 20 years ago already in our cabin as it took up less space than two separate machines, and it used the water pump of the washer in combination with a condensor so it didn't need an air vent for the dryer function. Combo washer/dryers have been around for a while. They’re generally a little slower than having separate machines, but if you’re short on space they’re great.
They're not really slower. It takes a washer X amount of time to wash the clothes, then the dryer takes Y amount of time to dry them. The combo units that do both without making you switch the wet clothes from the washer to the dryer generally complete the task in the same amount of time, X + Y. A little faster, honestly, because the combo unit removes the transfer step which also takes time. People just perceive it as slower because it's one machine with (just making up numbers) a 1 hour 30 minute runtime VS one machine with a 30 minute runtime and another machine with a 1 hour runtime. In reality it's just a longer period of time before needing to interact with the laundry again (which is fine by me, I hate doing laundry)
@@mjc0961 Many of the combo units didn't dry clothes very well, you often had to run the dryer portion a second time or a third depending on how many clothes or other laundry you had in there. The heat pump ones like the one in the video above from LG though might work better.
RE: the all in one washer/dryer. I believe this is decently common in EU. recently was in the market for a new washer/dryer and looked at some of these heat pump integrated AIO units, decided against it because we had the space for two separate units and it looks like they are slower to do the drying (though because they use heat pumps instead of resistive elements they are more efficient, a nice bonus).
I've owned the all in ones exclusively. Most have been crap apart from my current unit. It still definitely takes longer but it benefits from the fact that it's particularly large in capacity compared to most. Many others have been terrible. I don't have the space for 2 units in my current house. My partner and my mother both have the stand alone dryers in their houses and they work more comfortably so it would be worth having two if you can afford the space. Washing machine has no downsides as far as I can tell though, best washer I've had before.
To be fair, washing machine + dryer in one machine has been around for at least some 10 years or so. I bought a samsung one about 5 years ago. It's the best purchase I've ever done. I travel a lot, so throwing my clothes into a machine and just picking up the end product: clean + dry clothing is the best thing ever.
Would the washing and drying capacity the same? Often, an 8kg washer can only dry up to 6kg. If you decide to have it stay, it'll never completely dry and you would still have to hang your clothing to dry.
@triadwarfare same drum, so if it can carry clothe + water, it can handle clothes without water. Usually, it'll be an electric dryer where it heats air that then circulates in the drum vs basically a furnace circulating hot air. Drying times are usually significantly higher than gas dryers. But, the advantage is that you don't need to move your clothes from one place to another and also you don't have to worry about clothes getting musty if you don't take them out right after the drying cycle is done. Thisbis due to evaporation rates been lower than with gas dryers and thus it making it easier for the exhaust fans to fully take off all vapor out of the drum. Because there is ventilation that takes the moist air out of the machine. Also, electric dryers are gentler in the fabrics than gas dryers.
I was skeptical of a "sponsored video", as I assume most people would be.. but to see your point at the end about accessability... Well done LG. I'm sold!

I thought the transparent display wouldnt have much real world use case but having it be the windshield to display real time stats and navigation is so cool! Or park it and have a theater experience in ur car.
It still doesn't have real-world use case. On a car you want clear glass to look through while driving, not a transparent OLED. And plenty of modern cars already have HUDs that can display things on the windshield without the rest of the windshield putting a blurry beige filter on your view of the road.

Jerry, LG has always been EONS ahead of the other manufacturers with ideas and products that take great imagination and engineering. The one thing they lack is heart. I lived in New Zealand for 5 years returning to the states in 2006. Even in New Zealand, LG Products lasted until right around the ending of the warranty period as if there was a built-in chip designed to cause a failure at warranty end. There was no give with LG. When the warranty ended, it ended. I have had other manufacturers overlook the end of a warranty because of the closeness in time. Even here in the states, I found LG Product do not have the longivity that others have. There is a gentleman here on RUclips who repairs large appliances, and his recommendation is to avoid these high ends, loaded with feature appliances and stick to the basic models that have less of a failure rate. He specifically points to LG and Samsung when offering this advice. I'm not saying that everyone who buys LG Products will experience the problems I have had. I can only express my experience with them. BTW, Panasonic is also poor at extending repairs beyond the warranty period and that is for "KNOWN ISSUES" too.
Our GE Profile washer/Dryer combo does it all in one chamber. Large (4.8 cf) capacity, load sensing, ventless, heat-pump, runs on 120 volts. Great for apartments/dorms without a vent or 220v plug. It finishes a full load in about 2 hours. This may seem long, but remember, you can turn it on and go to bed, and wake up to clothes ready to wear. You don't have to move them from washer to dryer. Costs is about what you'd pay for a high-end washer/dryer set. Our only complaint is that it sometimes struggles with pet hair.
Out of all of these LG products you showcased in this video, the LG Alphable was the most interesting to me. 😃 Being all-electric, a steering wheel that can be tucked away, refrigerator, and lots of quirky tech! 🤓 I hope LG goes with gullwing doors for the doors. 🦅 Also, really neat that you pointed out how LG makes these things accessible for everyone. 🌟

The Washer - Dryer combo has been around since the 50s. They tend to compromise on the load capacity and energy efficiency to combine the washing and drying - but are normally found in small apartments where space is at a premium.
Single-unit washer-dryer combos have been a thing for decades, and are super common in Europe and China. They've just never caught on in the US. Back in 2001 or so I had one that used a condenser coil rather than a vent, and it worked well enough, although it helped that I lived in a very dry climate.
The combo washing/tumbler machine in same load... They are standard installment in small apartments since over 20 years in Sweden. they never existed in the US? gosh.
The washer/dryer combo has been overseas for a few years now. I had one in my apartment when I was in Bahrain in 2018 and worked really nice. I also had one in Kuwait way back in 2015, but that took forever to dry clothes!
@@Jerry-ko9pi it’s not that the US is behind, it’s just historically the U.S. has bigger homes and more room for larger and more items. So the companies selling washers there could easily double down and sell not just one unit, but two at a time - or a stacked unit that’s more expensive than what someone in Europe would pay for a combo. In Europe and the U.K. it was about people not having the space for both, nor the desire to pay twice for something that could do the whole job. Separate washer and dryer just wasn’t a thing there until more recent years when the companies there caught on they could sell both to yuppies.
Regarding the washer/dryer combo .. those have been around in Eurpoe for years .. but GE has one that uses heat pump technology to dry clothes without the need for a vent and it uses a standar wall plug. I’m moving into an apartment & have designed my living room so that the TV is in front of the main front window facing out toward the bay. This transparent TV technology is perfect for my situation in that it will reduce the blocked view by a 65” or greater non-transparent TV.
Washer/dryer combination machines have been used outside the US for decades. The machines wash well, but because they do not have forced air, they do not dry nearly as well as a dedicated tumble dryer.
Combo washers and dryers have been around for many many many years. Back in 2005 when I was in the military we had them on our ships. My RV had one in 2008. The thing is they were massively inefficient until recently.

Yep definitely not a new thing
yeah my brother has had the Samsung one for a while. And does all that and then some while being all the more aesthetically pleasing
This is the future that I missed seeing back in the 2000s and early 2010s. Good to see it still going strong in tough times.
LG has always been a favorite of mine.
The fact that the tvs were transparent wasn't new for me, but that they were wireless.. that is. They could come back in the phone space with a transparent cell phone.. or tablet for that matter.
LG mobile is dead
4:33 I've been using a fully automatic combo Dryer+washer top load machine for 20+years now 😂😂
I need that car
Awesome tech vlog zack I m glad you have great time .
Awesome! LG stole the show this year!
The accessibility consideration on their products is a superb movement
It's so nice to see cars moving towards being more easily repaired.
ikr
Just a concept bruh, cut some slack
Concept cars have been a thing for many years now. Have u seen any of them make it to the roads as a consumer product? Ask yourself why
@@manan-543 They are meant to be an artistic demonstration, not a real vehicle. Although some concept cars end up becoming real like the mercedes EQS and the Ford GT
I've been a LG guy since I bought my first Goldstar TV in the 90's at Ultimate Electronics, they consistently make quality pictures on the sets.
Nope LG and Samsung where shit I'm 90s and Chinnse where non existent if bought TV in 80s and 90s Sony Panasonic Philips Sharp Toshiba
I do love LG to the end they are a lovely company but sad they walk out on the Phone business but im hopeful they will make a come back.
I was surprised to hear your comment re the washer/dryer as these have been commonplace in the UK/Europe for years.
Yeah. I’ve have one 18 years ago in a rental apartment
@@mjc0961 Many of the combo units didn't dry clothes very well, you often had to run the dryer portion a second time or a third depending on how many clothes or other laundry you had in there. The heat pump ones like the one in the video above from LG though might work better.
LG is a company I love for years . They always improve and surpass tech that we never see before
RE: the all in one washer/dryer.
@@confounded_felinewhy brand is it and model?
Seeing RUclipsrs support fellow RUclipsrs is so simple yet so beautiful to see.
Much longer in the UK. That statement confused me too
@triadwarfare same drum, so if it can carry clothe + water, it can handle clothes without water.
@@KravenVanDrakkenI didn't even know gas dryers existed! That sounds like a fire hazard...
Funny to see the joy a washcombo can give... We have had machines like that over here in europe for ages.. :D
I was skeptical of a "sponsored video", as I assume most people would be.. but to see your point at the end about accessability... Well done LG. I'm sold!
Yoo your videos have been buried under the algorithms for years for me, glad you resurfaced here!
Hey Jerry,
I hope you and your wife are doing great! Wishing you a fantastic year ahead filled with loads of good fortune, especially in light of that exciting lawsuit against Castify! I thoroughly enjoyed the video; seeing those innovations materialize, particularly the car, has got me really pumped.
It's a bit of a bummer that LG has exited the physical phone market. I distinctly remember their sleek rollable phone concept-it was mind-blowing! Maybe someday they'll make a comeback. I've always admired their penchant for thinking outside the box and their unique tech.
Here's to an incredible 2024 for you. Keep up the exceptional work! Cheers!
Ngl the accessibility features is awesome, wish more companies did that.
*_I just hope they bring back their mobile industry… LG Phones were game changers._*
Washer dryer combo has been in Australia for over 15 years
They’ve been here in America for many years also. I guess he just hasn’t ever seen one before.
@@terryflint7557 It;s just funny, I've seen a few vids from USA shocked by these
Happy they finally showed up this year.
That car is amazing I miss using their phones, The image quality on the flagship phones was more to real life than most others.
Still using my 6 year old LG ThinQ😊. Will gladly carry it for 6 more years, the screen has amazed me with how durable it is after countless extreme drops

Dystopic technology, with a cute smiley face :)
I've had a washer/dryer combo for 10years already... Actually an LG. Many other brands have also existed just as long :)
I bought my LG Washdryer combo in 2017 😊 still runs great
Wait, the wash +dry combo in a single wash seems to be rare in the US but its quite common out here
I love how hilarious it is that my dad says LG sucks, like everytime, yet when its time to buy a new device he goes with LG because at the time it was more affordable like its inferior but it works perfectly lmao, we replaced a bosch fridge with an LG one and the washing machine and the electric stove if im not wrong
Just like paps he does the same too
We have a lot of LG stuff in my house too!
Give it a few years. You'll find out soon enough. 🤣
@@roman309738 to be fair, the Bosch fridge was smaller, broke way sooner and was still the same price, allthough you can say it was better at producing ice and when disposing it was easier but it doesnt justify
We gave LG a shot, washer and dryer failed within 2 years. Never again.
Out of all the products, the washer/dryer combo is king!Take my money already! 😂😂
i assume youre american, combo washer dryers been out for decades
1:07 It can wirelessly stream 4K without any wires.. You don't say 😁

I wish i can go there.
As usual. They keep on having one of the most impressive CES presentations. Samsung isn't far, too.
LG

You had me at fridge 2:13
This video deserves so much share❤
Wow LG went to town here, display and car look insane
They should get back in the phone business!! Still miss my LG G6. Best phone I ever had 😢
They've been using washer/dryer units overseas for a long time. Had one when I was living in Germany and I have a very nice one here in Japan.
LG is still alive😊
4:18 The clothes washer-dryer combo has been a norm in Japan for quite some time now! We’re just way behind in the West, as is tradition 😂
Carbon copy Sony Afeela nowhere near mass production unlike Sony Afeela
I have had a so called "Waschtrockner" (wash-dryer) my entire life here in germany :D I guess the innovation are the cool sensors and smart program selection. I also love the accessibility features, good video :)
Great job on the video Zack! Thanks for making it.
The alley oop is crazy!! Two of my favorite tech reviewers!
The Washer - Dryer combo has been around since the 50s. They tend to compromise on the load capacity and energy efficiency to combine the washing and drying - but are normally found in small apartments where space is at a premium.
New ones are actually pretty good at it.
Single-unit washer-dryer combos have been a thing for decades, and are super common in Europe and China. They've just never caught on in the US. Back in 2001 or so I had one that used a condenser coil rather than a vent, and it worked well enough, although it helped that I lived in a very dry climate.
I totally would consider a LG washer/dryer combo my tiny laundry room.
I really love all the handicap accessibility that LG has included in their products. Cheers to that.
boring
The combo washing/tumbler machine in same load... They are standard installment in small apartments since over 20 years in Sweden. they never existed in the US? gosh.
That's some futuristic tech. LG one of those silent but serious companies, and affordable.
That wide view of the outside of the car is beautiful.
6:05 I love it 🫶🏾🖖🏾
Surprised you haven't seen the dryer washer combo?! We have one in our home. saves space!
The washing machine that cleans and dries your same load has been here in Japan for ages and a lot of homes have this.
"if there's one booth to see it's LGeeeee" thats how it ryhmed in my head 😂
The washer/dryer combo has been overseas for a few years now. I had one in my apartment when I was in Bahrain in 2018 and worked really nice. I also had one in Kuwait way back in 2015, but that took forever to dry clothes!
They've been in Europe and the UK for much longer than I've been alive.
@@jim634 US is always behind in tech it seems
@@Jerry-ko9pi it’s not that the US is behind, it’s just historically the U.S. has bigger homes and more room for larger and more items. So the companies selling washers there could easily double down and sell not just one unit, but two at a time - or a stacked unit that’s more expensive than what someone in Europe would pay for a combo. In Europe and the U.K. it was about people not having the space for both, nor the desire to pay twice for something that could do the whole job. Separate washer and dryer just wasn’t a thing there until more recent years when the companies there caught on they could sell both to yuppies.
Really Cool Video. Loved it!
Regarding the washer/dryer combo .. those have been around in Eurpoe for years .. but GE has one that uses heat pump technology to dry clothes without the need for a vent and it uses a standar wall plug. It’s called the GE Profile - UltraFast 4.8 cu ft Large Capacity All-in-One Electric Washer/Dryer Combo with Ventless Heat Pump Technology. I have one and absolutely LOVE itl. It also uses less power to operate than a normal washer and dryer.
4:30 That feature has been present in almost all Fully automatic machine machines for the last ten years
So much awesome stuff... Washer-dryers have been around for years tho, quite common in Europe. The dryer function tends to be pretty slow tho
I've jst found you and have looked at several of your videos this AM. Awesome work sir.
I’m moving into an apartment & have designed my living room so that the TV is in front of the main front window facing out toward the bay.
This transparent TV technology is perfect for my situation in that it will reduce the blocked view by a 65” or greater non-transparent TV.
For the last part, LG's got my respect!
I was just there at CES2024.. I didn’t see you Zack! Big fan from the Philippines here… hope you’re still here in Las Vegas
4:20 Such washing machines and dryers have always existed... and they have always been a fiasco! This one will also break!😂
This is awesome!!!
That LG car is ridiculous...ridiculously awesome.
Man this looks like fun. Am definitely on board with the washer-dryer combo if the details work out. We need the space.
