I just finished my install using a similar method, but I used taller strut channel and used a 1inch rubber spacer to lift it up off the roof. Lots of room for leaves and debris to get under the strut channel. You should have run your wires through the strut channel. There is room under those cone nuts. I hope you have a couple of good Charge controllers, that's a lot of wattage.
Our Delta Pro battery towers have the charge controllers built in, which makes managing them really easy! Jason also used a panel calculator site to make sure they were connected correctly for the wattage. Thanks for watching!
I hope your spacer works. Mine failed. Overtime it deteriorated and compressed, and my screws worked their way loose, in turn a leak. After stripping the panels and roof, I ended up using nylon spacers designed for this application - no issues now for two years.
Awesome. You all are moving right along. Knock on wood....wife and I can get away to Houlton. Shop for some border land. We have confirmed reservations at the Houlton Border KOA for last part of Sept 2023.
Oh, fun! David and Michelle will treat you great at the KOA :) If we can help you with any recommendations or tips for buying land up there, we're happy to talk off-line as well. You can message us at our Facebook or Instagram Circuit Ridin' RV pages.
I know its been a minute or two since you did this project but do you remember the size (width / height) of the Strut Channel? I know they're 10 ft. long but I didn't realize there is quite a bit of variability on height, width, gauge etc. I'm on Zoro's website trying to match their selection from what I can see in the video, I think you have the aluminum, 12 gauge, 1 5/8 by 1 5/8 strut channel. Can you confirm? Thanks.
We have Single Strut Channel, Slotted, Aluminum, Plain, 14 ga, 5 ft L, 180 lb Load Capacity, FS-500 Series. The Zoro part number is G3345478. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!
We don’t only use them on the land, we carry them with us and use them often for Boondocking or overnights where we don’t have access to power. Thanks for watching!
Have you had any problems with any leaks in the roof? I going to install panels this coming week on my holiday rambler and like the way you guys did this but i was wondering if there was anything you wish you did different
I have imstalled 30 kw of lifepo4 and two inverters a 4000 split phase and a 3000 all in one. I have 3200 watts of solar on ground deploy mounts the same as you used on your roof. 3 victron charge controllers also. The thing that helped us be comfortable off grid was of course the solar power system but i installed a 240 volt minisplit. 9000 btu and 38 seer. We use it to heat and cool as well. Sometimes I have to use a little propane for heat as well but rarely. I also built a 14 kw nissan leaf battery with a victron dc to dc charger to use kinda like a back up way to help charge if the weather was bad for a few days. The video was great and id love it if you would tell me anything different you would do with your ,roof installation of the panels. Thankyou for the video for sure
Thanks for watching! I’d say we’re very happy with it overall. Really like how the strut channel makes it adjustable and reconfigurable. We have never had any leaks or problems with the roof since we installed them. We’ve gone back-and-forth on the usefulness/need for the tilting brackets, but since we park for so long on our land it probably makes sense to have them to maximize the solar. We don’t really use the tilting brackets when we are on the road as they are a little cumbersome to set up. Jason has some ideas to make them quickly adjustable with quick release pins that we may try in the future.
@@CircuitRidinRV I think what y'all are doing is great. I'm ordering more and more equipment each week to make off grid living easier. I spend 3 weeks at a time in this semi truck all over the country then I'm home for 2 or 3 days then back to work. Eventually once the goals are reached hopefully I can get a part time driving job and spend a lot more time in my camper. Thanks to people like you making the videos I have been able to get the solar and all the other off grid stuff up and running. I appreciate what you do for sure
@@CircuitRidinRV thanks. It's boring out here on the road and kinda lonely but after a couple days home I'm ready to be back out here lol . Thanks again for the videos
@@matthewknight5641 I don't think I could do it. Seems like a prison cell with a big moving window on one side. I'm glad you like it - a nation needs it.
Only black zipties are uv resistant. Overall good, just some refinements needed.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up! We will keep an eye on them.
What nylon spacers did you use? I’m getting ready to for an install. Thanks.
Im doing linear actuators, if it is EASY to do, i will do it. Dont want to climb up there and do it manually

@@CircuitRidinRV thank you. I been following Andrew Moore RUclips for real-estate.
@@mgysgtk8835 Yep, Andy Mooer is how we found our property! He’s a good guy.
Good job
At a minimum, you should have used stainless steel washers to prevent galvanic corrosion.

Are your strut channels aluminum?
Yes!
😮Not enough gap dirt will fill space
