    Her routine composition was a big problem in her comeback. She didn't adapt her routine to this code at all and still was doing her very long 2008 routine, which even if she hit everything only had a D-score of 6.5. She wasn't in shape for a super long routine like she used to do. Most other athletes adapted and focused more on connections, whereas Nastia still couldn't figure out transitions from high bar to low bar that were necessary in this code like Mustafina or Komova did.

    Just because you are Nastia Liukin a gold medal gymnast , don't expect to be in shape for the next summer olympics 4 years later with only a few months of practice and training. When I compare her in '08 to '12, I see big differences; her sharpness was almost non-existent, she couldn't concentrate, she was not at all sharp and especially in shape and looked very fatigued. In Beijing she was fabulous, sharp and alert as an owl or a hawk, full of energy and spirit, and fresh and radiant.

    • @Elong.

    It was kind of cocky that she just showed up with a few months of practice and expected to just compete because she was great four years earlier. • @TheGymSavant
    @TheGymSavant 7 лет назад +17

    You know, I feel like she came back with an inefficient routine in mind. I was even thinking about this back then: what she should've been training was inbar stalders; inbar stalder 1/2 in place of the stalder 1/2 and inbar stalder in place of the tkatchev. That would have been a 6.7 D score instead of 6.5 and she may have had the endurance to make the dismount, as i feel the inbar is a lot less taxing on endurance than a tkatchev.

    Some people in other videos have made negative comments about this girl. I've followed her for 7 years now and I know that when she puts her mind to something, she can achieve it. These next three weeks leading up to trials consist of a lot of conditioning to gain the stamina to complete her bar routine with a D level dismount. She was inconsistent and not ready at these championships and it did show, but to be fair, she's not had a lot of time and she's come so far so quickly, keep pushing! xxx

    I don't know about Elite, but in JO you don't get a deduction (as long as the the gymnast's legs are straddled and not only just split slightly). I do this on bars. The technique is used by some taller gymnasts to shorten their body length in order to tap past the low bar, so that they don't kick the low bar and so they can avoid diminishing their swing by piking their bodies by the low bar during giants.

    She did do a bit better than night one. 3 more weeks and Nastia could get her mojo back on bars. I'm amazed with what she CAN do on bars and she's not even in top condition!
    GO NASTIA! on to Trials! ♥

    Memo to Gabby, Aly, and Jordyn: Don't wait until the 2015 Worlds to decide whether or not you want to go for Rio.
    I give Nastia credit for attempting this comeback, but I wish she had started training much earlier than she did.

    I hope she will cost out the time till London. I think she will do well ;)

    She actually got her dismount back if you take a look at the podium training videoes but she doesn't have enough energy to handle the entire routine right now. I hope she can do some fitness practice in the following three weeks and increase her difficulty of bars to boost her chance of making the olympics since she s competing with Ross for the spot actually but she has only 2 events but Ross gets 3. Nastia needs the best difficulty and execution on bars to outweigh her.

    It’s a shame that she didn’t get back to training sooner!!! After Beijing and coming home with that gold medal she travelled nonstop and had tons of projects going on!!! You have to give it to the girl though, that takes guts to get out there, knowing you are competing against younger, fitter young ladies. Can we all just agree that even though her comeback didn’t go as planned, that it’s exciting to have her be a commentator instead of Elfie🙄 she was soooo annoying.

    she is getting this chance because the US needs people who can withstand extreme pressure and have had much experience. That is why they are giving her another chance because the only really strong bar workers we have is really only gabby douglas who hasn't had that much experience in big championships yet

    She will definitely improve at Trials. And no, she is not "embarrassing herself". She was smart not to do a dismount, she would have needlessly injured herself.
    She is doing this so she won't be asking herself 'what if?'. She'll do her best at Trials, and will graciously accept whatever Marta decides.

    That's a little harsh but you are so right. She should have started her comeback training a lot sooner like Alicia Sacramone or Shawn Johnson (too bad her knee injury came back to stop her comeback), then maybe Nastia would have a chance. Nastia is only going to the Trials because of her past achievements. I am going to try to believe in her.

    It is very difficult in the world of gymnastics to make a comeback once you have been off for a while. While I do not think it is impossible it will be very difficult I do feel that she should have given her self more time to prepare. But the Trials will tell the tale of the tape. I do hope she does well but it will be very difficult.

    I honestly have to say it and if you don't like it, piss on you, but it's the truth; Nastia was way too competative and greedy 4 years later. If I was her at this point, I would've just retired gracefully because I already won so much gold in Beijing. Come on honey, you already had your glory; let's pass it on gracefully and humbly to someone else who has yet to live it.

      She had a different dismount planned but messed up her routine so she had to switch to that to save energy. And I'd hope that her dad wouldn't have sent her out there in that condition unless she had been doing at least relatively well in practice

      Slow down deary. Its not about glory. At the end of the day these girls are athletes. They love their sport and their sport are their entire life. Its not easy to get the gold and then walk away like that. She made the mistake of not being ready which happens, but do not call her greedy.

  • @franzyprawnzy
    @franzyprawnzy 12 лет назад

    thats obviously not her normal dismount. she had a lot of problems executing her routine right and felt pretty off and tired. trying to do her dismount, which is a pretty difficult one, wouldnt have been worth the risk at that point.

  • @catherineb8595
    @catherineb8595 12 лет назад

    Here is why putting Nastia on a team is a terrible idea. Using the ideal team of Mckayla, Jordyn, Gabby, Aly and Kyla and their highest scores from visas, the total team score is 186.2 Replacing Kyla with Nastia and using her highest scores gives 184.35 Giving her more generous scores of 14.4 bars and 14.7 beam gives 184.7 Being REALLY generous and giving her a 15 on bars and beam which she CANNOT get gives....185.6 And that is why anybody with sense wants her to retire.

  • @mindyschocolate
    @mindyschocolate 12 лет назад

    Boy, I'm not going to mention her dismount, or her being tired, but she seems to lose her focus or something during her routines, because she keeps faltering. That's a big issue here. Not counting the major form breaks, that one part where she was doing something out of order, her dad was looking at her like "I'm suppose to spot her and I don't know what she's going to do next" lol. Priceless.

    Did you not watch the video? Obviously she was too tired to do a real dismount. She still doesn't have the stamina to do a whole routine let alone try and pull through one where she exerted more energy than she had to. You make it sound like she isn't even trying.
