She was like a ballet dancer performing a gimnastics routine. Beautiful!
❤
I wonder if she’s had ballet lessons? She’s brilliant.
It is way more difficult for someone so tall with her long legs to do these exercises than it is for someone tiny with short legs. Her body shape gives her that extra "umf" too. And yes, we all had to do ballet along with gymnastics to give us more grace for the bar and floor exercises.
Her floor routines were true performances. She transports you to another place.
Khorkina on bars...NO GRIPS! She did all that bare-handed. Unbelievable. But she was so light and strong --
Her other events were always fascinating to me. Floor was a huge strength because she was so powerful, expressive, and well-choreographed. Vault was always clean (unless the horse was changed). Beam, which I love, is where I see Khorkina sometimes hesitating or losing her famous poise & grace...but in every event, she always had perfect, beautiful, picture-perfect landings.
I never understood how she vaulted so well. LOVE her gymnastics, was never a fan of her ignorance.
I will never forget the heartbreaking look of anguish on her face at Sydney. She carried on like the pro she was/is and still brought home various medals. . She is so beautiful and graceful. She suprised all of those that told her she was too tall and that she would never be able to compete. Now she has her own gymnastic school and is teaching others. There is a room that houses all of her medals and trophies. So much for the naysayers. God bless her.
I loved how she wore her emotions on her sleeve. She was not to be messed with😂
She just 1.65 (5'5)🤔🤔🤔
Well by comparison Simone Biles is 4'8" (1.42 m). And Nastia Liukin is 5'3" (1.6 m), and she looks tall. So Khorkina is very tall for what she does.
@@mrworlddds5 ft 5 is extremely tall in gymnastics. Most gymnasts are 5 ft tall and under. When you are as small as Simone biles for example who is below 5 ft, 4 ft 8, it makes it much easier to perform the moves. Being compact is a huge advantage in gymnastics. This is why she was so unique. In addition to the fact that she looked like a ballerina and made the moves look extraordinarily beautiful in a way that almost no other gymnast does
Omg! She is so tall to be a gymnast, and yet she managed to be Champion!😱😱😱😱
What a legend! So graceful and unique, she will always stand out
Not like the rubber shorty Biles? Really?
I remember watching her as I kid and being so fascinated. She was the driving force behind me doing gymnastics in junior high.
Years later I needed to remind myself of how awesome her uneven bar routines are.
She's got L O N G legs!
She's very graceful, athletic and talented. I'm a big fan.
Her legs look a mile long but she's 5'5" tall. To compare, I think Simone Biles is less than 5'. I am no gymnast, but I'm 5'3", shorty little pipsqueak myself, so Svetlana is 2 inches taller than me. To anyone else she's average height, but for gymnastics she's very tall.
What an athlete and a beautiful person.
she is the first girl telling me a woman can be very pretty with short hair
The moment the crowd clapping along in Athens to her floor routine will always be a highlight for me ❤️
I just love that moment. She was the only one I remember was smiling before her tumbling pass
Sven
I get chills every time I watch that routine! 🥹
Her bars is one of the quickest and visually interesting, even by current standards
My all time favourite. Beautiful gymnast.
I was in awe of her from the moment I first seen her perform. She was so graceful. I usually cheer on United States, but I was an instant fan.
One of the greatest olymphian....
Truly a charismatic gymnast, one of the first, if not actually the first, gymnasts etched in my memory.
I think her vaulting was really underrated
So graceful but a total Diva! She's one of my favorites!
I love how smooth her landings looked
Now this is art. Well done.
so amazing to realize her vaulting prowess watching these back. had the AA disaster not transpired, i imagine Khorkina would not have gifted Zamo her spot in the vault finals...to think Khorkina very well could have been a three time olympic medalist on vault!
Indeed the most elegant one. This is the gymnastics should be.
I used to love her as little girl.. so greatful for RUclips
I was obsessed with Sveta! And I was a boy! 😂 the moves, the grace, even her diva-personaility. She's like a drag queen in gymnastics. Taller than everybody else, louder than everybody else
@@roddo1955 exactly my sister told me I could never do gymnastics because of my height and when I saw her it made my heart melt.
@@amyhewlett5666 we had this tv commentator who covered figureskating and gymnastics. He was in complete awe of Sveta. Looking back, it was so embarrassing. He would tell people what they were watching and HOW they should watch it, imposing his views on the viewers.Very biased and over the top. Svetlana would LOVE him. 😂
So beautiful, elegant and graceful ❤
She'd have won a few more if the Sydney 2000 vault height fiasco had not occurred.
I think she played up to the drama a bit. The Stalder full turn into Tkachev is very difficult and she fell on it in the team finals. She fell on it in the AA final as well. It was a risky move. Had she made that skill, she would've done the vault again. Every athlete was allowed to re-do their vaults. NBC commentators made it seem that the mistake on bars was a result of Svetlana being emotionally overcome after she fell on that mismeasured vault. Nope: she lost focus on a tricky skill. She could have done a giant full into Tkachev but she went fir the Chow. .I love Sveta but she also lived in her own reality. That's why she's the queen of artistic gymnastics. Divas create their own narrative.
@@roddo1955 Not sure what "Stalder full turn into Tkatchev" or "giant full into Tkatchev" you're talking about because her stalder Tkatchev (it's a Ricna, not a Chow) was after a cast with half turn. If there were ever any "Chows" whether in the CoP or colloquial, they were pirouette or transitioning elements and not releases. And she _could_ have gone for a regular Tkatchev from a giant (not a giant full or whatever), but she presumably wouldn't have enough bonus tenths from connections to reach the 10.1 start value needed in apparatus finals in the perfect 10 system.
@@roddo1955 okay, you’re saying because she fell on TF then the vault thing didn’t affect her mentally…
But she performed well in quals and in the bars final, being the favorite to win the event, there’s NO WAY you can tell the vault situation didn’t affect her on bars
@@ChainChomp2 I'm not as versed in all the elements such as yourself but yeah that's what I meant with the stalder full into Tkachev, I was too lazy to look it up on the wiki page😂but I stand to my point: she didn't fall because she was emotionally rattled after her fall on vault. She fell because missed a skill she had fallen on before and it was risky, it could've happened in qualies, team finals, apparatus finals... And she did not need that 10.1 SV in AA finals-which is what I'm referring to.
@@sinhueherrera8984 no that is not what I was saying. If you copy and paste what I typed and put it next to your conclusion you'll see that you misunderstood/misread my post. My post is also based on my observations and my interpretation of said observations. We might see things differently but let's not tell eachother what is the right way of looking at the same thing.
I always loved to watch her - she was so tall and beautiful 🤍 and she never wore grips on the bars - she’s old school like me 😉
Amazing gymnast! It’s incredibly difficult for someone with her body type and height to compete on the Olympic level.
I swear she has the longest legs I've ever seen on a gymnast. It made her particularly lovely on the uneven bars.
@@NoOne-bp2jw And she's 5'5", a lot of gymnasts are very tiny compared to her. To compare, I think Simone Biles is less than 5' tall.
She had such presence and energy to match the skills!
She has the air of metabolize everything at twice the pace as everybody else. Beauty in motion.
She reminds me of Lady Diana Spencer, who had the same body type.
Same haircut and big round eyes. And Like Lady Diana, she knew how to work the camera and manipulate people.
Agreed!
Her beam routine showed her elegant long lines and she looked lighter than air.
Beautiful. Lithe. Talent. Skillful. Graceful. Complete package.
Her dismounts are always different from everyone else’s, just love her , ❤
Beautiful, she looks like flying
queen
Divina!!! Me encanta verla competir!!!
Svetlana was somewhat coherced into cutting her hair before competition, she thought it would make her faster getting ready and show it was OK for girls to have boyish hairstyles if they chose, some wanted to see if alongside all the psychological demands if competition a taking of her typically pretty image would affect her mentally. She let this happen, she is truly amazing to risk this knowing what she stood to lose when the mind and psychology of sport is such a huge thing.
GOAT OF TIME
So greatest of all time of time?
She totally sticks every landing, no matter what piece of equipment she's on!
i love her!
Love this!!! Especially without the commentators!
My favorite till this day !!
I love this lady pure talent and elegance
bow down to the queen!!!
Svetlana is " the queen"
Para mí simplemente la mejor
She was extremely good
Svetlana Khorkina de las MEJORES GIMNASTAS del MUNDO!!!
Espectácular ❤️
I remember my dad asking me who's your favorite athlete and I was like 6 so I just said the tall Russian girl. But my mom was like mines too and my dad is like we're American....( jokingly of course ) I still remember how graceful her floor performances are. LOL I just found out I'm taller at 5'9.
Beautiful
Most graceful gymnast
Can we please get a video completion of all her olympic performances??
Mi preferida es Comaneci y Korbut
WHAT A DIVA!N PRIMA DONA OF GYMNASTICS
The queen
i need to know all the graceful music being played in this video..
1996 Carmen suite / 2000 Torero / 2004 Goodbye my love goodbye (Demis Roussos).
Biles can be most condecorated gymnast, but she is the most disgraceful for gymnastics. The essence of the sport has been lost because of her, and this is how she will be reminded, as someone who ruined the sport… Svetlana however elevated it to its highest! Bravo! ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
She would have made a beautiful ballerina.
She's too short
Considered too tall for gymnastics but too short for ballet. You're right though.
Nah. She was too gangly and not particularly coordinated to make fluid movements. She was a gymnast through and through.
@@Mikinaak2023 ?? Too short? Most top prima ballerinas are her height. Those on the corps are even shorter?
@@freshname Exactly. Funny how that works out.
what a character! She's great
Gymnaste absolument sublime... 😮
Wild how she not built. Bodies are crazy.
Svetlana ❤❤❤❤❤
A melhor de todas! Rússia ❤
In 2004 she looks like the bride (uma thurman) with that longer hair in my opinion.
Remember when gymnastics had artistry and was exciting to watch? Sigh
Maravilhosa. Fez história.
Hermosa,
In my opinion she was the best
4:00 look how tiny those girls are. Truly children, which makes it even more amazing what they were capable of.
Absolutamente suprema.
Iconic!
A true queen ❤
una reyna un bello cisne
moje favoritka
Única .
The victory!
I like her unusual dismounts
Bellissima
Was she the most graceful? No. Was she the most talented? No. Was she the most dynamic? No. But she did her gymnastics as if she was the best at everything. Her drive and perseverance is what got her to legendary status. She believed in herself before others did. I always found her moves to be a bit 'gangly'. Nastia had more control over her long lines than Sveta did. But Sveta knew how to SELL it and fight for every tenth. Hopping and skipping out if landings she couldn't control whilst making eye contact with the judges. Svetlana was the ultimate:" fake it, until you make it-gymnast" And once she made it, she stunned the world with out of this world floor routines and unique elements. Svetlana and Simone are two completely different athletes but they both put their stamp on modern day gymnastics. Pity that Sveta said some problematic things, regarding strength in gymnastics and race. She conveniently forgot about Produnova, then....
Svetlana was more diverse than Nastia, more artistic and stayed competitive many more years. Simply there's no comparison.
@@maussolo I like apples more than bananas. Are you going to point out how there is no comparison? Because apples last longer?😂
Your opinion.
@@ademarbenitezaranjo8299 exactly
She didn’t fake anything. She was not given medals because she tricked judges into see skills that were not there, or by hiding any mistakes. She worked very hard for her achievements and deserved everyone of them.
When I read younger I always thought she was tall, only to find out today she's only 5'5".
This is a lot for gymnastics! Plus she was very thin, this is also unusual.
@@botanic999 yeah no a lot of muscles. She looks more a ballerina.
While the rest of the gymnasts are around 4.9 - that’s very tall
The video is full-packed but the info in winning are very misleading. Majority of the data are actually for the Team Category. She only bagged two gold's for UB and additional 2 silvers for Floor and All-around.
I would have included her floor routine from the AA at the 2000 Games.
