I drove a 2002 suburban for 6 years and only just retired it a little over a year ago. If I had my way I'd drive it for another 10 years, but sadly the rust was finally getting to the frame. Mine had those flaps to cover the footwell and they were very useful when folding down the middle row for cargo or traveling with dogs! That suburban was the most functional and useful vehicle I've ever driven. Newer vehicles really can't compete for quality and function.
Sorry for late comment! This detailing job is seriously impressive. The amount of dirt and grime on that Suburban was insane but you tackled it like a pro. Good job Mitch!
For the tailgate supports that I have come across that are bad I also put a pair of vicegrips on them to to slow the tailgate if the support bar I was using got knocked out
The GMT800 series of vehicles are some of the best vehicles EVER built by any manufacturer. 18 years have passed since they ceased building this platform and there are still hundreds of thousands if not millions still on the road. 05 Cadillac Escalade ESV owner here. Love the video on this big ole Burb!
Having owned and/or worked on several of these trucks over the years, it's safe to say that the engineers' wives didn't cheat on them with a mechanic, because they're not horrible to work on.
I have this exact car and love it! It was fun to watch. My 2001 ford excursion also has the flaps on the back of the seats to make a flat cargo area. It would be cool if you could detail an excursion! But it would be a monster job, ha!
I have a gmc YukonXL with that foot well cover, I think it was great design minus the clips. I use it for camping and having the flaps makes it so I can put blow up mattress down.
after detailing my sisters equinox last weekend, i finally understood your pain on those cheap carpets. why didn't chevrolet stick to this plush carpet
Hello, Renee 5, Glad you are back. What did you think perspective about your dealing car last weekend? Your sisters helped a good treat you. I hope All is well with you. Have a great weekend! 😊
@@cynthiahopkins7090 hi Cynthia! My sister loves the detail, it turned out great! Took about 3 hrs to clean the interior, she has a 2 year old. Vacuuming the carpet was the hardest part and I got my fun share of French fries hahahaha! It looks so much better now and she loves it. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too!
Great job, Mitch! I love that green color too. That's the kind of suv you can live in and it looked lived in lol hope the customer loves what you did there. Happy Weekend!
I have those 2nd row flaps in my 18 Toyota Sequoia. When you fold the 2nd and third row complety they bridge the gaps so you can put cargo all the way through. I use them all the time.
As someone that gets their vehicle dirty sometimes, I have to clean my glass. The paint will be ok, but I can't stand glass I can't see through. Even the ranch truck gets a glass cleaning when I go home.
Your videos on older cars have really made me appreciate them a lot. It’s incredible how great a car can look just by taking care of it however long its lifespan.
I had a couple of GM cars that had carpeting along the door panels. I think it helped for acoustics for the vehicle between dampening the outside road noise to giving a more solid sound for the music played.
The carpet on the door is meant to be a kick plate so you don't scratch the plastic when you use your foot to push the door open. :) Thank you for the continued videos.
This is me. I live on a dirt road that turns slick and sticky with rain and snow. And I did spend 325 to get it professionally cleaned and two days later I was back to looking the same way before the cleaning. Two large dogs didn't help interior either with their paw prints. I will try for a beater truck to drive on icky road days. Something that's NOT my 3500 high country truck
Little backyard mechanic trick for cars that the support "arms" won't keep the trunk open is to use vise grips right under the black part of the arm. That'll keep it from falling on you without having to use a random bar that might fall down.
door carpet has a functional origin; they were supposed to help with sound deadening. they are also noticeably nicer than rubbing against plastic when squeezing into the car.
Awesome! Looks great! Always funny when someone doesn’t get the wheel spacers for the big rims! Spend more money on new tires then the $100 on the spacers from the start.
The carpeted door panels go way back to the 1960s carpet was more durable than the vinyl wrap. The carpet saves on scuffs on the bottom of the doors but I don’t think it’s done in any current vehicle. Nice job!
Yup! Scuffs on shoes (people do push the doors open with their feet), as well as scuffs on the hard plastic lower door panels. I wish the manufacturers would still do this, but it seems every manufacturer wants to reduce costs ...and make more profit.
People nag GM in the late 90s/early 2000s for the terrible plastic feel of the interior, but I truly miss their interiors as a whole. The carpet is so much nicer, everything is such a simple/easy design to either remove or operate.
This was amazing! The car looks great at the end of the video and I’m impressed on how well you cleaned it up! Great job Mitch and enjoy your weekend everyone!
Mitch, not trying to tell you how to do your job, just asking. on the tough stains in the carpets have you ever sprayed your cleaner to pre-soak the satins or even tried some Oxy-Clean as a pre-soak. I have done so on the House carpets to get our Pet Stains and it has worked really good for me, Just Asking. Love the Videos, they're a Very Worthwhile watch every week!
Man. You’ve come such a long way over the years. I remember first watching your vids about 3-4 years ago and I’ve loved all your content since I found your channel. Keep it up man. Amazing work
@@joelbuchanan471Thank you joel! I think it's your well wishes that made me have a quick and easy day at work on Friday! Happy Sunday and have a great week!! 😃
I suspect the little flap on the back of the middle seats if for when they're all folded down so you can slide stuff in and not have it fall between the seats.
Really, even one quick mid-winter trip through the car wash during the January thaw (and a follow-up once spring arrives) goes a LONG way towards minimizing body rust on a vehicle! I mean, in the middle of winter, I knew the cleanliness wouldn't last, but the main thing is getting the road chemicals out.
You know DG as a old detailer myself I don,t know if the cleaning products or the steamer which is the best as far as detailing goes I,d have to honestly say probably BOTH
I know the feeling of standing under a trunk with the hydraulics on it being weak, in my old Prius , hit my head on it a couple of times, before I bought replacement parts to fix it. 😅
The carpet on the door was functional. Back then, the days when car parks were not always full and SUVs were rugged and built well, therl carpeting on the door was meant as a kick panel to keep the door open or some people just kick the door open
I am a detailer and i have always been told by them before me and know myself that you arent or shouldnt be putting anything with a high shine on higher surfaces. Does 303 have a high shine?
you should see some of buddies trucks here in Texas....the size of the wheels. 28x16's even a couple have 30x16s. tires are usually 40's or 42's. MASSIVE.
I don't understand how people can leave the interior of their car so dirty. It's so easy to dispose of all the rubbish yourself instead of having someone else do it. At home it probably looks just as disgusting from people like that

Put a vise grip on the door shock for extra saftey

GM of the early 2000s was surprisingly reliable outside of a few cars. The cheap plastic only bothers those who hate GM as a whole.
This was amazing! The car looks great at the end of the video and I’m impressed on how well you cleaned it up! Great job Mitch and enjoy your weekend everyone!

Loved the Pre Wash rinse for this one. I thought it was black initially then noticed the emerald green colour as all the dirt came off
Awesome transformation

another great transformation, Mitch! Can't get over the pizza slices left in the cargo area of the vehicle, tho!

Another amazing detail.
I think the carpet panels on the doors are for those who use their feet (shoes) to push open the door. It saves the door and the shoes from scuffs.
Great job on that big old Land Sub.
Fantastic job on the Suburban! Hey Mitch, will there be any more Yard Geek videos coming?

I don’t see the point in the mud flaps because obviously it won’t stop mud and dirt from going everywhere because of the offsets

The Toyota Alphard does have something similar to that for passengers to put their feet up when they recline their seats.
1:10 It takes little to clean the windows though (and lights).
