Matt - congratulations what you pulled that off! In one day you drove the best of the best, cream of the crop - Porsches! All of them are yummy. I hope you have a summary review at the end of this stint.
997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 correction! , another correction the Cayman GT4 was the first to bring back the manual in 2015, again the Cayman GT4 (981) was the one improving the shifter feel
@@TheSmokingTire For that matter the 911 never lost the manual , the conversation was about GT cars from Preuninger. The 991 GT3 (2013-2014) arrived PDK only while the standard C2, C2S had manual 7 speed as an option, The cayman GT4 introduced in early 2015 was sold out in great part because of only manual option; Porsche realized after this that there was a market for manual transmission GT cars as well, so that’s how the 911R came about. So for the 991.2 GT3’s manual came back as an option and RS’s only PDK, and I agree with you as a 981 GT4 owner myself, The 991.2 GT3 touring is the car to have.
So, the new 911 Sport Classic just destroyed 911R prices! That's money these collector's will never get back. I wonder how $200 a glass single malt tastes with tears in it?
God bless that thing sounds soooo good!!!! The way it revs out like that , and did I mention the sounds coming out the back of that thing!!! Bucket list car for sure!!
small correction. GT3 4.0 is a 997.2 and it came out in 2011. Although the 2007 997.1 GT3 RS 3.6 liter is still an amazing car too! You are living the dream Matt, thanks for sharing!
Shit why not. I would, ... Hell if the designer is good enough he could integrate a 9 hole golf course around it. you do not even necessarily have to be rich if you can find some land cheap. You can build a dirt track and find an old Lancer or Focus to run on it ... Or just buy an abandoned track like Cleetus Mcfarland.......
How come 7 sad people 👎 this. Keep up the good work Matt, I’d listen to you describe sand blowing on the beach, always great presentation, just enough information, no wasted time or words. Happy Christmas.
Id love to buy a 991 GT car with a manual, but until I win the lottery and move to Germany where I can drive it fast every day, I’m super pleased with my 997.2 Carrera S. I’ve got a bullet proof direct injection NA 3.8, a super slick 6 speed, especially when you upgrade to the 997 GT3 lever and linkage. 305 section rear tires.... and yet I price out GT3 Touring’s every week.
@TheSmokingTire is the 911R geared shorter than the GT3? Seems like it's running out of gear quicker than the GT3 was on the straights...Maybe it's just the extra power.
Yeah the R sounds different because technically is a very different engine to the touring. There is actually barely any main parts shared. From crank, pistons, rods, oil guides, water guides, the head has 0 to do with the touring, only thing they share is displacement and power.
@GKY I agree completely. I bought a GT4 just for that reason. I’m now wanting the less visceral connection and more of a grand touring feel. Don’t get me wrong, I like these track focused, manual models, but they just don’t lend themselves to touring. They tend to be loud, with super firm suspension. I had my fun, now I want to kick it back a notch
AP said the Touring rev’s fine and didn’t need single mass flywheel ... exact words “911R lightweight gimmicks” ... I add a lithium battery -35lbs and was close to 911R weight difference if both included AC and radio
the rear clamshells don't ever line up correctly with the rear bumpers on those cars. very very rare to find an example where it actually lines up right. It's just one of the things they never were able to do on that car.
It's a Porsche, so I know it works. But do u have to change your brain for turn in when under/over 70mph? With regards to the rear steer being applied or not.
I'm so pissed about this car. I could have had one at launch and decided it was way too expensive. The day it came out, it doubled in value. And none of them get driven.

I love that Porsche did this. F flippers!
Brilliant series so far Matt, the R is and probably always will be the dream car 🔥
Hey! You're the carwow BMW guy!
Tier 1 yet?
very hard to choose between the r and the 997.2 4.0. my heart says 4.0 especially in black with silver wheels :)
@@shayaandarr Haha not yet!
Did his car burn up in the middle of the ocean....lol
I'd go for the GT3 Touring, but I just think this platform seems like the most perfect overall road car experience out there.
GT3 Touring is the best performance non wing manual Porsche road car to date ... 911R is wonderful collector and loose road car
Matt , this series has been such a treat ! Thank you !
The 911R is so special! Still remember it well :)
Matt - congratulations what you pulled that off! In one day you drove the best of the best, cream of the crop - Porsches! All of them are yummy. I hope you have a summary review at the end of this stint.
I've actually seen one of these just randomly driving down the road near me, eyes nearly popped out of my head!
Are you sure it wasn't a 911 GT3 Touring?
"flipper-y fuckery" 😂😂😂
The way that car revs, just pure music...
997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 correction! , another correction the Cayman GT4 was the first to bring back the manual in 2015, again the Cayman GT4 (981) was the one improving the shifter feel
Got to take advantage of the rare occurence that Matt makes a mistake! :D
Also, 911R is based on the Gt3 RS, not the Gt3 (2:14)
The cayman's manual never went away, so we don't count that.

very happy with my 991.2 gt3 manual. if the R was the same money i'd still keep my winged .2 with the higher redline.
And superior motor in the .2
Agree 991.2 engine and suspension setup is superior to R
Sounds SO good.
I never loved this front fascia. GT3 Touring looks a lot better in the front IMO.
Agree bolder and more aggressive
What a car! What sound, too.
Imagine having that as your personal track in your own backyard!!
Wasn't the dual mass flywheel standard and a regular lightweight flywheel the option?
Yes

What a car. This is what I call a street and track machine.
That sounds....angelic...
Can you order that special flywheel and put it on the touring yourself? To my knowledge the transmission in the r and the gt3 are the same.
The purist driver flywheel is the single mass ant as tested. The dual mass is the heavier and easier to drive.
Brought the prices back down to earth. My wallet appears to disagree 😄
5:49 Matt suddenly sprouts hair :-)
Ok I take it back, THIS is the best sounding 911. That wail is fucking manic
This is my favorite attainable car, bar none, by far.
My fave 911, the sleeper (by 911 standards).

Omaze - the lottery ticket of RUclips. Notice the timing correlation between lockdowns and Omaze giveaways too.
Fun to watch, but sad to realize I'll never be able to own this or it's equivalent.
I’ve actually lost interest in super expensive cars because of this. I know I’ll never own one there’s no point in lusting over this like I used to
Weren’t people paying around a mill for these at one point?
I’d take a 991.2 GT3 with a manual over this.
Watch the video before u comment
They released the GT3 Touring however; all of the 9911Rs have all been sold so they are still way expensive.
for the price, yes. otherwise... I don't think so.

Touring Motorsports Cup engine is sublime and superior to R in every way

3:38 Ever type your VIN [number] into an ATM [machine] thinking that it was your PIN [number]...
The optional clutch for the R is the single mass piece! Some say it was a must have option for $3650.
Std road car flywheels are the heavier and more silent dual mass. The upgrade is the single mass.
please tell us what was the best and your favorite at the the end....tnx
Sounds epic
Best sounding one yet!!!
great channel this is my dream PORSCHE! There is no substitution
Curious to hear your rankings after all the reviews are done.
@thesmokingtire Matt forget costs of ownership and future values be damned for you if you could only choose one would it be the 911R or GT350R?
911 R= biggest waste of money in comparison to a gt3 touring (9k redline).
The guys who paid $900k wasted money... for now. Check back in 10 years.
Porsche people are weird they care more about exclusivity over anything. That 911R will be worth more than the touring in the future
@@jlopez1017d worth more yes but touring is the superior road car
