If such a watch is good enough for Ian Flemming and therefore James Bond, it’s good enough for me. Let’s face it, James Bond would never swan about in Miami wearing an AP Offshore now would he? Sometimes saying less, actually says a lot more 😊 … declared bias I have a 39mm Explorer but also a 5 digit Sea Dweller.
No exaggeration man, I’m sporting very close to an eight inch wrist and I prefer a 36mm. I work in cramped quarters, cockpit and instrumentation and the smaller size collects fewer dings and scratches and during business travel, probably nobody’s going to kill me for it. That’s my two cents and you can keep the change, thanks everybody!
I hear ya, 8 inch wrist here and I wear a 36mm. The most comfortable of all my watches. So much so that I’ll be paring my watch collection from over a dozen down to the explorer, 2 omegas and a brietling. The rest will slowly but surely be sold. The explorer fits whatever you do or wherever you go on a daily basis. It doesn’t shout and no one is going stab you for it. Win win
…I have a collection of 8 steel and also precious metal sports Rolex watches, of which one is an Explorer 1. And I like them all for what they are… the Explorer is my cheapest watch but if I would need to live with just one watch only, it would be the Explorer🤷🏻♂️
Nothing wrong if Explorer 36 are people grail watches. People don’t have to live up the hype that they need to at least get a Daytona to get the nod that it’s considered a grail watch. For most, getting any Rolex could be considered their grail watch and nothing is wrong with that. End of the day, wear what you love and not what you think others will love.
Conversely, I was at the coffee shop the other day. High school kid was working there, he was wearing a nice looking watch, so I asked him what it was. He was surprised to have been asked, and said that it was a Hamilton, He had just saved the money from working, and bought it for himself. He was very proud of it. I told him I thought that was awesome and to keep it up. There is way too much negativity in the world. Why would you go out of your way to hassle the people to have the same hobby as you?

My second Rolex was a 36 mm Explorer and I find it far more enjoyable to wear than my sub. Guys like this make the luxury watch collecting hobby embarrassing.

If the giant 70mm Invictas sold for six figures, this guy would be the first to buy one. The Explorer 2 with the black dial is one of my favorite Rolex watches. Pictures don't do thst watch justice. Its not that bright stainless steel like the Submariner and it has a brushed finish.
Highly likely that it didn't, Edmund wore a Smiths watch and Tenzing wore a different model Oyster Perpetual. If you're going that route, the Speedmaster supposedly went to the moon.
