- When asked what do I think is the best watch in the world overall, my answer is always the Rolex Submariner.

The Rolex Sub is the watch that for me sets the epitome for a dive watch. It’s strong, durable, and rugged yet it still is not large and bulky like some of the others in the dive watch market. The look and design of the submariner is a timeless icon that has stood the test of time. Since it's introduction in 1953 to the current model, the watch has still maintained the same essence. When compared to the Rolex DayDate President it is hard to choose which one is the flagship of the brand. It’s not that the Submariner trumps the DayDate but more that it’s just more obtainable to the masses. Not everyone can afford an all gold Rolex President, But a steel Submariner is something that is much more in the range of possible goals for many people. The Rolex Submariner is undeniably famous and recognizable in any part of the world which makes it an icon. The range of versatility is Immense. It can worn with a pair of swim trunks or a suit. It is always the right look- good for the office and good for the jungle. The value of the Rolex submariner has stood the test of time. Even before the recent trend of Rolex sports models fetching over retail prices the Sub prices have always held and maintained strong. If you hold one long enough, the value can increase significantly.
Iv’e always said that if I could only pick one watch to have the rest of my life it would be a Rolex Submariner in Stainless Steel.

Bought a 16610 from 1994 this year as my first Rolex and I must say I totally love the neo-vintage characteristics and still modern touch touch of the watch!
It just is the watch I wanted to have since I was a teenager!
You can’t beat a submariner and I never actually used to like them until I tried one on and felt how solid and well made they are. Dunno what it is but after getting my sub I also have this mentality now that everything I buy should be worth buying, maybe because it’s something that will never be worth less than what I paid for it. It’s actually made me value money more in a strange way. Maybe it’s just me 😂

Eric the Blancpain fiftyfathoms released before the Sub, the sub is more famous due to the original Basel World release. Love the videos man also when’s the Eric Rivera Watch collection coming?

Rolex design was and still is better. It’s proven to be timeless.

Hey Eric, I purchased my first Submariner 116610 LN in Steel back in Feb from my AD. I was on the waiting list for maybe 3 months.One of my best and favorite purchases. My advice to those who are looking is to be patient the AD’s will come around and will eventually be avail.

You absolutely right! I think what watch I can use of any time in my life, only sub can go everywhere but only black SS ,better 3135 engine ( very strong ,log time service interval, easy to fix in any watch service.)+ always money with you .

I bought the 114060 no date a few years ago and it’s one of the best watch buying decisions I have ever made. As mentioned, it goes with every occasion and is a joy to wear. If I had to sell my watches, I think it would be the last to go.

I have bought soo many watches now to safely say that the sub is the best I have all variations of the sub but some how never get bored of it and keep coming back. My favorite is the gold with black dial after that the ND..

I finally purchased the Submariner Date I’ve wanted since I was 10.I paid quite a bit but I got the 2009 Rehaut with aluminum bezel in great condition. I was considering diving in the Keys with it but now I’m having second thoughts.Awesome video thanks Eric.

I have been wearing a Submariner since 17 March 1975. I dive as well. I have a collection of eight, that includes the anniversary Sea-Dweller. One does not live long enough to exploit fully, the enjoyment of wearing a Rolex.
I have my 16610 since 1997 and it’s been put to hard use, was serviced twice in its lifetime and is still going strong 💪

Spent over 7yrs buying, selling, swapping , upgrading and looking for the next better thing, I came back to my first real love that took my breath away and still does, the two tone Rolex 116613LB , it’s everything, it’s design and beauty is breathtakingly perfect to me .

My only issue with the Sub is that it seems everyone owns one. Just lay attention the next time you’re at an airport, Disney, etc (if we ever get there again!). The Sub seems to be on every other wrist

@@CJ-rb3do It's not that everyone has one but depending on where you live it's fairly common for a luxury watch. If you live in a major financial hub or other large cities you'd probably see someone wear it every couple of days. That's the funny thing, you can't seem to find one from an AD these days but they're still quite common.
@@CJ-rb3do Porsche? No that's one of the Glashutte brands. Rolex is a toyota of watches - super reliable, everyone has it, maintains value on the pre-owned market. OK, maybe lexus but really far from Porshce

Picked up my 114060 from the AD last month, what an amazing watch. I owned a mid-90s 14060 several years ago and the new Submariner is in every quantifiable way a better watch.

After a bunch of mid / high end watches I’m stuck with my blue two tone, and I love it, nothing beats a icon, perhaps one more all gold Daytona

It's just hard to take off, I have several watches but its just special.

Nice review, also one of my favorite watches, I have the Hulk and the yellow gold with blue dial,. I’m now looking for one in steel of Nov 1979 in good condition to buy. But I still think the Day Date is the best Rolex, don’t know why but every time I use my rose gold with green dial it seems an occasion to me

The Date will give it away from 20ft that you are wearing a Rolex. But I mean wear it for yourself not others
I have a no date 114060 and chose it because I didn’t want the hassle of setting the date if it runs out of charge. The thing is I do find myself looking at it to check the date sometimes so I’m considering getting a sub date in the future as I miss not having it, something I didn’t anticipate. Saying that though, the sub no date is definitely a nicer looking and more symmetrical watch.
Eric what do you think about my top three diving watches from different brands?
1) Sub 114060, 2) Omega SMP300m from 2018, 3) Breitling Superocean Heritage 2 on mesh

I have the 116610LN sub bought new from the AD last year, with a busy work life and now no wear to go thanks to beer virus here in the UK it had been in the watch box the past 4 months so I put it on to wear in the garden last weekend and my god this watch is beautiful I couldn’t stop looking at it, so glad I’ve got one.
I totally agree, the submariner is my favourite watch of all time. I bought an omega seamaster twenty two years ago because I couldn’t afford a sub. I bought a new stainless sub seven years ago and I love it. Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work 👍

Eric you have a good point. I love all my subs, Kermit, Hulk, Solid Gold Blue dial etc. Everything you said is true however when you strap on an F.P. Journe or an Aquanaut/Nautilus or a Lange & Sohne it’s a whole different world.

I agree I think it’s the best Rolex overall as it can cover so many bases, dress it down or dress it up its that versatile and let’s not forget like Eric said it’s at a price point where more people can enjoy it! Yea a solid day date is a major player but if you can’t drop 30-40k then it’s out the game..

Disagree with showing the Blancpain as sub-inspired. Correct me if I am wrong, but the Fifty Fathoms came out before the sub, so it would be a stretch to say that Blacpain took design cues from Rolex.

I have a Rolex Sea Dweller 16600 and I love that I don't see them in the wild as much as the sub and also the fact that it doesn't have a cyclops. What are your thoughts on this model? Cheers!
I absolutely love the Submariner and would agree that it is one of the most, if not the most iconic watches Rolex has to offer but as far as the most sought after , I do believe the Daytona rivals it, if not has it beat, but seriously can't go wrong with either of them.

I just bought a vintage Sub on Friday and I love it, black dial with black bezel all stainless steel.

Dear Eric, please help to compare Sub and Sea dweller, which you prefer. Some prefer sea dweller as it is bigger and more eye opening.
What I love about my Sub is that I literally wear it all the time on every occasion. Swim with it, travel with it literally everything!

The ultimate modern Sub is the green bezel LVc “Starbucks”. It’s absolutely perfection in form and function. I dive with it as well as everything else from waterparks, upscale variations, etc…. It’s the one watch that just works in every environment. I have owned a lot of Sub’s over 3 decades and the Starbucks has just enough green to “pop”. My Hulk was just too much green over time and actually limited it’s versatility to me. The 12 series Sub case and bracelet eliminates all the blocky mistakes of the previous generation and seems more of a natural evolution of the classic 60s Sub.
Used to share your opinion of the Sub, but life has changed and now prefer the GMT. However, I understand your comments. Good, honest video.

My first Rolex was a submariner I bought almost 30 years ago for $3k. I sold it recently for $9k to purchase the new one with the ceramic bezel. I had it serviced once in all that time and it worked flawlessly. What other anything can you use for almost 30 years and then make triple what you bought it for?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Submariner is iconic and lifted Rolex. A bit like Omega with the Man on the Moon (watch). I will add one into the mix one day. Probably a no-date for simplicity OR maybe an all-white gold, blue on blue SMURF. Great video, as usual, makes me want to make a move on my next piece!

Couldn't agree more.. Back in 2016, I purchased the No Dste 40mm ceramic bezel but had to sell it due to my financial situation at the time. Fast forward to two weeks ago, and I purchased a pre-owned 16610 circa 1991. There is no way I'm selling this piece.
