      2:35 Yes, true. But being from one of the Malaysian Bornean State, we now can get nice commercial rice wine. Sarawak even has our own beer - 1602 craft beer. I'm no drinker myself but once in a while, I would like a sip or two too. This is probably not known to you because expats don't visit the other side of Malaysia except for the beaches and diving in Sabah, so their impression of Malaysia is peninsula-centric.

      Hi Jack😊, Cool Vid👍& I 100%❤M'sia /"Negaraku"❣...& with-that-said: just wanna politely point out that 'the word' "cheap" isn't 'a word' that's associated with M'sia (yeah, it sure is quicker to say "cheap" when speaking vs. e.g. writing), yet: it'd be much appreciated please whenever 'words' e.g. "inexpensive" , "reasonable", "lower-cost", "affordable luxury" are used instead of "cheap" when comparing prices($)/amounts of money($) spent for anything in M'sia vs. e.g. The USA, Europe &/or Australia since M'sia is definitely 'A Highly Quality Country' while being "reasonable in costs" along with being reasonable in many positive ways...Thank You In Advance For Your Consideration(s) Jack

    One thing foreign youtubers always fail to mention or more likely take for granted of is how english is widely used in Malaysia especially compared to countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam or even east asian countries like Japan, S. Korea, China etc. Pretty much everything important is written in english (signboards, apps, instructions, restaurant menus etc plus there are even multiple english speaking radio stations too). U can also go to hospitals, police stations, government agencies etc and use english there without much issues. Hey, I'm a local, and my english is ok right? 😅

    Amazing review. We wanna “Thank You” as a Malaysian.We honor positive vibes that You carry as of changes the atmosphere on social media, spreading the good news on Your platform.
    I live in KL past 28 years.I am native indigenous from the East of Peninsula of Malaysia so called “Borneo LIMBANG Sarawak” very closed to Brunei.
    I am in love with KL CITY .Amaze with the skyscrapers.Shopping Mall just amazing.
    I’ve visited Langkawi Island,Pangkor Island,Tioman Island,Cameron Highland,Genting Highland,Perhentian Island,visited Singapore,Thailand and Bali.Those were the days We touring around town to Ipoh.From Petaling Jaya to Kelantan longer hours driving 20 hours! back and forth to Langkawi and Penang Island,Taman Negara Pahang.We love travel and camping.
    Malaysia fantastic place to live,dream that I would never taught.
    I’ve met lovely,so friendly people here in KL,make lots of friends.
    There are also negative side and I choose to speak about the positive.
    Take a walk and a leisure time in the afternoon,cuppa of tea at Mamak Shop,The Masala Tea amazing. Feasting up to supper.
    I enjoyed the bus ride around KL City so much included out of town.
    Frequent travel with AirAsia for many years.
    “THANK YOU” for choosing MALAYSIA to live,explore the inner side,the beauty of mix cultures between so many races living in harmony.
    I served in privates health care services far too long,love seeing all kind of people.KL has the best public transportation.
    Glad You choose MALAYSIA 🇲🇾 as Your home.

      Malaysia only has 2 weather (no winter by the way, and never snow) which are sunny all year round with occasional rain. There is a rain season which you may want to avoid. It could rain several times in a day (20-30 minutes long) or in some areas it may rain non stop for several days instead .
      Unless you do like to walk in the rain.

    • @JackAlderton
      @JackAlderton  10 месяцев назад

      I personally like running in the rain 😆 I find rain bearable when it's warm, but terribly uncomfortable when it's cold.

    How about Health Facilities? I think it is one of the best. You can walk in to any private clinics if you are not feeling well, you could see a doctor and get medicines in that clinic itself.

    • @JackAlderton
      @JackAlderton  10 месяцев назад +13

      You are absolutely right. I plan to make another video just about healthcare. It is WAY better than Australia. I was able to see a specialist, get an MRI scan and see the specialist again a few hours later, for free. In Australia this would take weeks (or even months) and cost a lot of money.

    Nice video Mate...
    I am not sure but did you mention the #1 ease about Malaysia is the fact of the English language spoken and used widely. 😊
    It helps tremendously with assimilation compared to countries like Thailand, Indonesia, etc in South East Asia.
    Especially for bureaucracy issues as well as hospital visits. The ability to express yourself on a daily level whatever your activities are makes living in another country much easier when ones Mother tongue language is also spoken.
    😁

    • @JackAlderton
      @JackAlderton  9 месяцев назад

      @JackAlderton  4 месяца назад +1

      Glad to hear the Bec, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. There's so much to see in Malaysia, I still have a bunch of places and things to do on my list after 2 years!
      I haven't made the video yet for a few reasons but I will say some of the things I don't like is the rise of negativity towards foreigners & the need to be careful with what I say (some lack of free speech, or more accurately the collectivist mindset). Also traffic and the inefficiencies in the way many things are done. I will make the video, I just need to make sure it's well thought out & researched because I will definitely catch some heat.
      The things I love definitely overweigh the negatives, so I try to keep positive vibes as much as possible. Enjoy Aus!

    What advice do you have for westerners, I'm from the USA, lookng for work in Malaysia?
    So far I haven't had much luck so any useful insights could be really hepful.

    • @JackAlderton
      @JackAlderton  10 месяцев назад +2

      I'll try to help. I didn't actively seek work in Malaysia, it found me. Having said that, it's pretty obvious to me that Western education and even being a native english speaker is highly praised. I would try to find a writing job or something related to english language, you should be a shoe-in if you're from the USA. The hard part will be the wages, you might have to accept a fair bit less money unless your skillset is similar to the above.

    not sure if u know bout this,but regarding the alcohol thing,think i seen on most expat vid regarding this is,since malaysia @ any SEA countries are less streesed,and expat can spend 1/2 @ 1/3 from their earning (USD convert RM) working here (malaysia),they tend to less drink as they less stressed,headache, and the weather since sun is most out,its improved the mood,hence less the drinking..some even dont even drink anymore as they getting more happier,leisure life vs how they are in the western country..

    • @JackAlderton

    Your 10 points are spot on. I watched plenty of youtubers' videos on their 10 best or 10 worst things about Malaysia. Your list differs from them a little bit and I agreed to all 10. However, I'll wait till you posted the video on 10 things you don't like about Malaysia before I subscribe to your channel.. make it good mate 😂😂✌

    • @JackAlderton
      @JackAlderton  10 месяцев назад +2

      Haha appreciate that. I'll give it some thought but I'll tell you one negative now - people get very defensive. It's hard to constructively criticise anything without getting in a fight. Though this is the same in most countries now.. including Australia, so it's not unique to Malaysia!

    • @zaharizak
      @zaharizak 10 месяцев назад

      @@JackAlderton If the criticism comes in any other language but English, it is fine I guess because only citizens from that country will suck it up. Otherwise, if it's in English, the whole world will get the misinformation (if it is misinformation). So.. make sure you know your stuff.

    Great Reaction Jack...in Malaysia you just need to mix or talks to the local freely make safety more safe. For the vehicle petrol/gasoline, the Government will implement the Targeted Subsidy system shifting from the current blanket system in mid-2025. Meaning only around 85% of Malaysia will still enjoy the subsidies rate for Ron95 at RM2.05/ltr whereas the 20% Malaysian (the riches) & foreigners shall pay at market rate estimated around RM3.00 - 4.00/ltr which is still cheap for those earning in USD.

    Absolutely on points🎉
    People really need to travel around to gauge the reality comparisons. Still, it depends on individual luck and fate. Many might not have such capacity to work it out. But for those who can, why not travel more and choose while they have choices in hand.
    When, a person is financially free and capable basically most countries around the world are good(i mean those good countries - most Europe and some Asian countries) to live but they lack of cultural diversity and tolerance like Malaysia and Singapore.
    Then, why Malaysia? Simply put - abundance of fresh products where you need not to worry about like people in other parts of the world. Able to live a bit lavishly and quality life but at a very discounted price.
    Boring? Just take a week or month to get wild in Thailand or Japan or Indonesia or elsewhere ... And back to Malaysia for a good relax and recharge ❤

    it's easy to calculate the difference in living profit in malaysia through the difference of your currency with the malaysia profit as much, if UK in malaysia the difference is 6x times. if usa is different 4x. if Australia is 3x different. UK citizens are very fortunate to live in Malaysia with 6x more profit than living in the UK by enjoying better facilities than the UK and Malaysia is more modern than the UK

    How do you compare the social life and dating there with somehwere like the Philipines???
    It would be really interesting to know the differences.

    • @JackAlderton
      @JackAlderton  10 месяцев назад

      Great question - thanks for the suggestion.
      I'd love to make a full video on this but I'll answe succinctly here:
      Social life is excellent IF you put yourself out there and mingle with expat communities. There are many expats from all around the world here but westerners MAY find it difficult to really find the social life they're used to with locals because of religious differences. Depends how open-minded you are.
      This also applies to dating - I had a few dodgy scenarios when I was unaware of the ettiquete when I first moved here. In general, it is great if you're open minded and upfront with your intentions. If you're looking for a more similar religious and cultural environment to the West, Philippines would be closer.
