Hi Brett! I have a new thumb flash drive. Am I soposed to format it first when in my Note9? Was in your playlist but no way to search for video? When trying to search in search box, just takes out of your channel and takes to RUclips search! Would take forever to scroll and find the right video.

Thank you! I dropped my Note 4 and the LCD has bled to the point I can't see a thing. I used your video to know where / how to grant permission to backup on my (blind) device so I could back up my old phone. A replacement phone is cheaper than a screen repair in Australia!

Now I don't have the note 4 any longer and am going to restore every thing to my new Note 8 ,BUT I still have the same memory card with all the data still in there and going to put it into note 8 .my question is ,when restoring, how can I prevent the info I have to my memory ,not back up again to new phone , since I have it already inside my memory card ? If you want to transfer files from Samsung Galaxy to Macbook, do you choose 'backup' 'restore' or 'sync' option? Also where do you find the transferred files on Mac? I want to move transferred pictures to the pictures folder so I can organize them but the transferred files are no where to be found (or they were never transferred from Samsung Galaxy to Macbook). I'm using Macbook OS Yosemite. Thank you very much for your help in advance!
+ysk249 Thanks! You choose Backup. All of those files will then be placed in a folder called Samsung > SmartSwitch > Backup > Your Phone. Then you can open it up to the pictures or camera folder and drag and drop those where ever you want them to be supported. Sorry I forgot to cover this in the video.

+Rich Castellano I would transfer the SD card to the new phone before you turn it on but that doesn't matter too much. Just place it in and reset the phone. Any days that was on it will then be available.
+Rich Castellano For the secure folder you can back it up to a a Samsung Account. Just go into the Secure Folder and in the settings select Backup & Restore. And your account then backup. Sometimes Verizon phones are different but that should be available.

No it will not let you display any thing on PC from your back up, Samsung Notes only work on Samsung devices, or you may share them on EverNote (i did not try it) or export them to MS office
Worst app every, I tried to backed up my S8+ contents to my imac. It got stuck at 92% forever, and takes 3 seconds to back up 1 photo, and how long will it take to backup 3000 photos?

So you have the Smart Switch backup from different days? Maybe delete the 9/4 one and then try again. Did you have anything saved on your Google account?
I'm having the same problem... I'm trying to transfer photos from the Note 8 to a Mac - am i supposed to download smartswitch for both Android and Mac? I only downloaded the mac one.
Kel Mitchell When you plug in your phone go to the notification panel and see if changing how the device is connecting helps. It might say USB charging and you need to change it to transfer or another option. You might also try reinstalling the drivers and trying again. What carrier is your phone?
it does show charging, I have switched it to MTP but nothing changes. I'll try reinstalling drivers via the smartswitch app unless you have another idea?
Tried both but no luck, the kicker here is when i turned my note 8 on for the first time it gave me the option to restore from old phone ( or something to that effect) and the screen went white and nothing happened past that so this became my next obvious choice but no luck...

I'm trying to transfer notes from my iPhone 6plus to Note8. I used Samsung smart switch and all options like contacts app list messages calendar etc are available but the only one that is not available and greyed out is notes, which shows a padlock sign and it says: unlock memos to transfer them. I don't have notes locked in iPhone so how to overcome this?
I don't know how to check whether or not my phone is encrypted.. my notes were synced to the iCloud but I changed the setting to sync with Gmail, but still don't know how to transfer them..

I got to the screen where it tells you to connect your device, but I cannot do this with USB as the reason I'm using Smart Switch is to restore my phone due to a false moisture detection issue. I have selected the wireless option from the phone but it fails to connect every time. I'm on the same wifi, everything is set up correctly on both ends, but I just cannot get the phone to ocnnect without USB, yet I also can't do it with USB because the phone yells at me. I'd appreciate any help, been wirelessly charging this phone for over a week and the only help I've got is Verizon and Samsung telling me to use this app to backup and restore.
When it tries to connect there should be a 3 dot menu to select. Under there try the option that says to manually connect. This let's you type in a few numbers to connect. If not, your phone may have a wifi issue.
By using Smart Switch, are you not concerned that you have given permission for Samsung to take any data from the phone it wants, at any time and make any changes it wants at any time, without your knowledge? (read down the T&Cs just before loading - my interpretation anyway). This is my biggest dilemma....
I wish it worked as you describe it, Brett. Smart Switch barely recognizes the existence of my Note 8, and refuses to do anything at all with it. Frustrating.

Can you restore from the welcome screen, or do you have to run the initial setup first?

What about bluetooth connections? Are these being transferred as well?

You have updated to the latest drivers? Also make sure Smart Switch is up to date on the Note 8.

the program is useless asf, does not work on transferring my data from my broken s9 to my new s8. half of my data only tranfers
my smart switch is taking 8 hours just to back up photos -_-
