I love the caveat “it’s only $45 (at the time of filming)”. A handful of the powerful dice cards shot up in value after prof posted the Mr House deck video lol

So, I started putting Indominus together after putting Mr. House on hold for financial reasons. Oh well, next deck, lol
I brought all of the singles for Aristo-CATS, still mad that I overpaid for some but my LGS is making money off me.
Unfortunately the shipping pretty much doubles any deck you can get. Direct sellers jack up their prices an absurd amount, doubling the cost so if you go normal sellers, you still double it because most prints cheapest options have those sellers that throw .02 cent cards in with $3 shipping or something absurd.
The shipping is what gets me. 50 bucks but 40 in shipping.
I just love this commander as Voltron. Captures the terrifying feel of Indominus breaking out of her paddock in the movie.
Not to mention from how she's fight's the humans she seems to have opposable thumbs so in theory she could even grab the equipment :)

Don't forget folks: Fiershrieker is a great way to add Double Strike to your commander in this deck.

@92bagder a very AFFORDABLE way to get Double Strike! It was just reprinted in Fallout
The same is true for Darksteel Plate/Mithril Coat, which also fit well into the voltron strategy for the deck if you just wanna play them instead. Though they're definitely not within budget.
I would also use Blackblade Reforged. Since you'll be ramping a bit with green, this is a great budget card for beefing up Indominus based on the amount of mana you control on the field
Brass Knuckles, Fireshrieker, Gavel of the Righteous, and Grappling Hook are all the colorless option to get Double Strike.

I'm such a huge fan of these precons. I've recently developed a 10-deck donation to my local Boys & Girls Club (that has a Magic: The Gathering club!) that cover the 10 2-color guilds, and each deck is between $12-$16, with no card costing more than $0.40 (a restriction of B&G Club due to anti-theft reasons). As it stands, the deck boxes, sleeves, and storage slightly edge out the cost of the cards themselves, haha. Budget building is great and you can still find pretty incredible power when pinching those pennies :). Maybe someday when I have more time and money to spare I'll make a similar donation with the 3-color guilds.
I love what the accessibility of these $45 decks do for the community! Well done.

I wanna thank you for the videos you put out. I tried getting into magic a long time ago, but fell off because I never found any sense of community there. However, after recently rediscovering your channel and Shuffle Up And Play, the colorful group of people you have on makes me feel like their is a place for people like me and makes me want to get a deck again AND videos like this make it feel financially affordablebto do so AND AND having a Discord with web games makes it seem feasible to find people to play with.
I keep a stack of these Professor precons near each other because they play really well into each other. Will be fun to add one Dino in there thanks for the best techs Prof!

I think my favorite part of this is it gives me the same feeling as when I first saw Feather. The idea of taking a bunch of cards that are kitchen table Magic at best and turning them into key components of your strategy.

I just want you to know that i don't even play MTG but i enjoy the work y'all do on this channel so i always drop by and watch between Flesh and Blood vids, deck box reviews, sleeve reviews, etc.
Even if I don't end up building the deck, I really appreciate these types of videos that show how you can make a good budget commander deck with a bit of thought and effort. I also think it's great how you emphasise the potential for more expensive upgrade paths as upgrading later can be a great way to split up the costs if budget is really important for you.
Glad you do this series. My only wish is you give card kingdom a heads up so they can stock up on a few extra copies of cards so we can order exclusively from them.
Love the Commander, you can pretty much just add whatever creatures with keywords you want, very fun! I do want to note that except for flavor reasons, Blackblade Reforged is in almost all cases just so much better than Luxior, Giada's Gift. Yes, it will cost you 1 more to cast but will give you way more stats on average and also keeps growing your Commander when it's equipped, which apart from Evolutionary Escalation doesn't really happen with Luxior, Giada's Gift. Not to mention that it's way cheaper, allowing you to upgrade something else in the deck.

@nottathug good to know the deck box is that good iv heard nothing but good things about it. Other than the magnets I heard they where a bit on the weak side but I'll be the judge of that. Cause it's not like I'm going to be throwing around my 600 dollar deck

I love these budget build videos, the builds and commander choices are so good. But something I've noticed when I go to playtest them online with my friends some of the videos have both the budget and upgraded deck lists and some just have one or the other.
Nice, I was just looking to make a sultai deck. I have to say, my friends and I have all made a prof deck, and they all work really well, even at stronger tables.
Oh my goodness I literally saw Indominous and wanted to build this but never got around to it. SK excited to see a Prof budget deck tech on it

now I feel like I need a Shuffle up and Play of Tolarian Precons
The one thing I would suggest as a minuscule little synergy. With the draw card component being a etb trigger. If Rex either entered the battlefield with counters or you responded to the draw card trigger by giving her counters, you would be able to draw additional cards (I'm thinking primarily +1/+1 counters here since keyword counters are pretty well handled).
Effectivly I would suggest small changes like swapping out [[Tamiyo's Safekeeping]] for [[Gaea's Gift]] (you can effectively cycle Gaea's Gift if you don't think you'll need the protection spell like if you hit both hexproof and indestructible on the discard); you should also consider Opal Palace as a land, as mediocre as it is, because any additional counter should be welcomed, and you commander will probably die a lot anyway.
Those two are the only budget options I could think of off the top of my head, and it's more to illustrate the synergy.

Happy to say I'm about 2 months ahead on this one. I built it for my son for his birthday bc I thought it was a good commander to learn the game with.

I love the concept of Build Your Own Precon, in much the same way that I loved constructing my set of 4-5 Artisan Commander deck (no rares or mythics; doesn't mean it isn't powerful!). I've seen several of these Sultai "I love keyword" commanders, and the math never quite gelled properly. The Dino version of them, however, has a legitimately scary body that makes it worth throwing directly into the command zone!

My favorite pre-con in this series! My initial thought is that a crystal shard would be a great addition.
scavenged brawler is another awesome creature that give 4 keywords in your indomminus and is easily one of the best since it's ability also requires it in the graveyard

Yeah, it's not even a money card. I just picked up my copy for £1.10. Honestly surprised that one didn't get put in, since the synergy in both giving keyword soup so an insane amount of draw (and vigilance, which I think is a particularly important keyword so you can attack safely), and the ability to pump it up to a 10/10 the turn after is pretty insane. Only thing it misses is a strong protective keyword, but we're running a good number of them, so you "Should" get that as well
Which creature would you cut for brawler? I would say Ramunap Hydra, wdyt?
@@TheHijackx Honestly the hydra is worse than a few options available, notably "karvanista, loyal lupari". Any of the reach cards are on the weaker side, because reach is just worst flying. If you're running a card for keywords and keywords alone, and it has reach and other generic ones, it should be on the chopping block. They need to at least have positive stats/good abilities, so you can consider playing them on curve/reanimating them as well. Hydra is a great choice for a cut.

From the catacombs is another really good repeatable reanimation spell that also gives the initiative. Last I checked it was like .15. BBG is a really underrated set with tons of power houses bellow a dollar
I saw this commander and was unsure how to build plus I don’t have sultai either. This and Mr house are so fun to grab and put together.
Prof, I would love if you could put out videos like this with each new set. Thunder Junction precons were super lackluster, but I would would absolutely pick up a TCC precon built around a Thunder Junction commander

Thank goodness I built this deck before this video. Also haste is a must. More haste is better. Don’t underestimate haste.
The creatures alone now are $50+ for this decklist.
I’ve been running this commander with multiple clones to churn through the deck quickly and land an eventual Rise of the Dark realms that should include either End raze forerunners/Craterhoof from the yard to close out the game. Backed up with cheap counterspells to make sure the Rise sticks.
I brewed this some time ago and it's one of my most aggressive decks, let's see what the Prof put in it! (I run a ton of "not legendary" clones and creatures with 3 keywords)
I might take this and focus on a deathtouch poison infection deck. With fynn the fang-bearer to turn deathtouch into poison counters
Indominus Rex, Alpha is my signature commander! I even have a primer for her on Moxfield 😍

❤ I absolutely adore this commander. I made him with Umori the Collector as companion and it’s oops all creatures. My version is all about self mill, reanimation, and card draw and winning with either Jarad Golgari Lichlord sacrificing a giant Lhurgoyf-type creature like Lord of Extinction or letting the commander go to the yard and playing The Mimeoplasm as a copy of him buffed by one of said star/star Lhurgoyfs to draw my entire deck with the ETB when I have Laboratory Maniac in play. (And every now and then I kill with Voltron cause he’s large, lol, but mostly I treat the commander as a lightning rod for removal while I’m trying to win with other creatures).

I’ve played against SO MANY PANTS
I like the deck. I do have one suggestion to anyone interested in building this. The mana base could be made slightly better with a few changed, Namely use of the Gates within these colors. The three Guildgates in these colors, they 3 'pick a color' gates in these colors, and the utility gates of Bakilisk, Baldur's, Heap, Gond, and maybe thran portal and Gateway plaza if you want. ALL of these are pennies on the dollar, and would replace the manlands, temples, and tainted wood currently in the deck. Along with the gates, changing Kodama's Reach, Cultivate, and Rampent growth with Circuitous Route, Explore the Underdark, and Navigation Orb. While the ramp spells are a bit more costly mana wise, they have the benefit of grabbing gates, allowing you to mana fix rather effectively. Additionally, Heap Gate, Baldur's Gate, and Gond Gate further help with mana fixing in one way or another, and lastly Basilisk Gate helps our Commander punch through. Assuming you use every possible gate in these colors, Basilisk Gate can add 12/12 to a creature, nearly making Indominous a OHKO. The Gates add a lot that's worth considering, and if you so desire can even be an alternate win con if you throw in Maze's End, cuz yes there are enough gates in 3 colors to Maze Win if desired.
Honestly speaking, if you're in green and 3 colors, that Gates make for a rather good mana base option on the cheap, as the 3 primary ramp spells (plus some other option like Sylvan Scrying, Hour of Promise, Reap and Sow, Crop Rotation, Tempt with Discovery and Expedition Map which all grab any land and not just basics) are all relatively cheap and can make for a pretty solid budget mana base. Seriously to all budget builders out there, give the Gates a go. You might be surprised by the results. Let's hope Deserts end up with the same kinda love, cuz I'd fucking kill someone to see a full set of 10 lands modeled after the Alara Panoramas, save for they grab one of two basic lands, or a desert. Hell even if they can ONLY grab one of two basic lands, or a desert they'd make for a killer budget set of fetches to combo with the 10 duel-ping deserts

I built this deck and several playgroups hated it myself included. There is already enough going on in a four player free for all. People don't want to re-evaluate 15 key words that may or may not be physically on someone's cards every combat
I wonder if adding a card like Soulflayer as a backup option in case Rex gets bound in some way would be an interesting way to create a powerful secondary creature in a pinch.
Needs some gaddamn instant speed interaction! Hexproof counters don't matter if they are responded to with a kill spell. Trim a few keyword enablers for some counter spells!
Where do you get the cards from? Every deck I see is closer to $100 and the upgrades closer to $200 through either card kingdom or TCG player

Other than me collecting the Jurassic World cards along the other dino cards, I wanted to build a dino theme commander deck. Already have a good dino standard.... Modern..... Not sure which it's called but I have that. So having a dino commander deck will be awesome!

I'm going to reveal my best kept secret about this commander:
Instant speed proliferate effects. I have an Indominus Rex deck that is hardwired to draw as many cards as possible, with winning as as secondary objective. Proliferating basically doubles your card draw on ETB, and pair that with any draw doubling effects such as Teferi's Ageless Insight or counter doublers like Winding Constrictor... I've managed to pull 40 cards out of my library on one ETB before.
Any chance you might one day do like a revisited video for your other precons? Plenty of sets have since came out, so kinda curious if you’d swap or upgrade anything in those older ones.
I wold Love to See a Budget Deck for Arcades the strategist, with all this cheap walls you can get a very powerfull Army for less than 45$
Guildmage's forum, Long list of the Ents, Metallic Mimic, Renata called to the hunt, biophagus, master chef and Savage summoning can also all make Indominus Rex enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter for an extra draw and a tiny bit of power, as well as giving you things on the board instead of having to hold onto everything for discard fodder
When I first read this card I knew it'd be an utter monster in the right deck but I wasn't experienced enough with the game yet to craft it myself -- how fortuitous someone else did :3
Plus I simply LOVE the art on the Jurassic cards -- it's a pity they didn't do a full UB set with the license since there's an unsurprising amount of potential for a Fallout-sized set across all the themes. The cards they did release have the ghost of precon structure ideas around them, like Henry Wu's exploit creatures mechanic. Throw in a potential Blue/Owen partner dinos deck and, of course, this Indominus Rex 'tron.
Heck, they could have added a Tembo/Muldoon card for hunters/trappers theme with equipment and vehicles/theft, or lockdown/control. Whoops, now you have a 4x precon set.
Or not... I'm biased. I love dinos and Jurassic, sooooooooooo...... 😂
