@@SrGundisalvusI've been building Caesar, Legion's Emperor and have definitely been thinking about adding more extra combat spells, but I'm definitely thinking of building this Otharri list because it's interesting having a token deck that is so focused on voltron
If you're running into any draw problems, a "Symmetry Matrix", while a bit higher on the mana curve, can really help out with the amount of rebels that you will generate. It worked wonders for me and I could net 3-4 cards per attack when I was flooded with mana. And a "Hexplate Wallbreaker" really makes you get bonkers when you decide to really capitalize on those extra combats. Also, kinda cheeky, but if you run a "Sword of Hearth and Home" The one that blinks a creature and tutors for a land, you will have infinite combats with Aurelia, because you attack, get an extra combat, blink Aurelia(She now counts as a new creature) Attack again, trigger, Blink, repeat. Just remember to put the sword on anyone but Aurelia, otherwise you have no chance to equip her again (Unless you have flash equips on board)
I use a Helm of the Host on Aurelia for infinite combats. The Aurelia with the helm attacks first, her token attacks with ehr on the second attack, the token generated during the second attack swings in on the third.... ghostway brings otharri back at the endstep meaning it dodges exile boardwipes, although i'd probably swap it for Guardian of Faith as it phases out other creatures, protecting your tokens too
Is Great Train Heist good enough to swap in for Savage Beating or is the option to give double strike to all our tokens too good to pass up? Also, no Anointed Procession due to budgetary constraints or that we don't want to be tapping out early and have less ways to protect Otharri?

Well the good thing is that you usually do not have 3 opponents that have a lot of flying deathtouch blockers. So you get Otharri triggers from any of the opponents who can't block and you send your rebel army at the opponent with the flying blockers and see for how long they can keep trading... 😉
noticed you didn't mention helm of the host. mine uses that as the main ideal wincon, so i also run several artifact/rquipment tutors (then of course those could also grab some boots). I love playing Otharri, it's crazy fast and fun
I had recently discovered making a monolith commander that can be easily replaced. I chose Ojer Kaslem…. (In truth the deck does not completely revolve around him it’s a big dumb creature deck so the other creatures can carry and there are some other creatures like goreclaw that can carry for awhile as the commander…. But the fact that your commander can be returned from the graveyard and that Ojer turn into a land and can be returned to the battlefield is great…. Essentially if u can avoid commander cost u can depend on ur commander!
I love this deck. I’m kind of sick of Aggro Boros decks, but this looks fun. If I ever want to revisit that type of deck I’m gonna definitely go with Ortharri
I'd play stuff like welcoming vampire, and wedding anouncement over cards like seize the spoils... other then that I think the decks looks pretty good.
battle hymn casting multiple extra attack cards is tricky. It can cast the second while you already were abel to cast the first. But two is mostly not possible, as you miss out on the untap if you dont want to lose unspent mana at phases end
~ Your strategy is well-thought out | One of CONTROLs biggest weaknesses is straight HASTE aggro | I am happy you decided against going tribal | A few comments pointed towards adding Mutavault and is not a bad idea | Otherwise great job!
I'd say this deck is mid-power level rather than high. You have a few pieces of fast mana (sol ring, dockside) but are missing the majority of broken stuff (mana crypt, mana vault, jeweled lotus, simian spirit guide, ragavan, smothering tithe etc.) that can power out your commander + fetches to increase the value of each draw. Deck also doesn't run mass stax common in high-power edh/cedh (and is very weak to it - would fold to a t1/2 drannith magistrate)
Giving it a try! Here are my quick changes since I obviousoly proxy (Shameless plug): Replaced a 2 mana rock colorless with Manacrypt. Replalaced some lands for Mutavault, Plateau and Arid messa. Added Anointed Procession to double tokens. (still figuring out what to replace with) Added Cathar's crusade. (Removed Gold night commander) I'm SO tempted to put either Torbrand or chandra's incinerator. Thank you for the list!
Have you ever thought about adding in infinite combats with cards like theropod, phyrexian arena, or neheb along with aggravated assault. Or by using ways to untap combat celebrant?
Hey so recently, my locals has been trying a format where you take a precon and you can exchange any of the 20 cards in it for your own. Was looking at the otharri precon and deciding what to take out/put in. Any thoughts on what you'd take out/put in?
Hey Deck Driver! I love watching your videos and like the perspectives you bring! You've really helped me reexamine my own decks and eck building process! Ive also been thinking about starting a channel sharing my own thoughts on mtg and the like. Would you mind sharing how you make you videos the way you do? (Like, software or how you go about the visuals we see) ect? Any advice or suggestions you have would be grealty appreciated :) Anyways, keep up the awesome work and congrats on the growth of your channel! I cant wait to see how big we can make it ^_^
What I was thinking. Like this deck doesn't play counterspells so how is it stopping other high end decks? Just hope other opponents answer eachother? Like isn't a 5 mana commander kinda slow?
On the "Removal" Section (at least based on my local meta), I'd swap the following: Lightning Bolt --> Wear//Tear or Abolish Destroy Evil --> Unexpectedly Absent Chaos Warp --> Stroke of Midnight (I've just had one too many Warps flip over a backbreaking permanent, I don't run this anymore ever) For protection, if you're running on-board protection like Selfless Spirit, Selfless Savior gives you a 1-mana creature that can protect just Othari. Also, if running Mother of Runes, why not also Giver of Runes?
I like the deck, the only swap I would really make is taking out strionic resonator for the roaming throne. Less mana intensive and gives you the same result.
So I have Otharri as my commander. Pretty nasty commander build. Would Lae’zel Vlaakith’s Champion soy double up the amount of experience tokens you get?
I am very curious as to why you aren't running Breath of Fury in your extra combat set up. It is insanely easy to get "infinite" combat steps with Otharri because you make more 2/2's to attach it to every combat I would say it's arguably better than most other extra turn cards in this specific deck. I run it in my Eowyn Shieldmaiden deck for the same reason. Easy to make a bunch of weenies to throw it on, also easy to give them trample or some sort of evasion to make sure it always connects
I'd put sac outlets for protection because you can get it back for 4 mana and not discarding a card for x mana. She makes rebels to use for the ability.
Would shared animosity not be a very food card here? It is the one that gives your creatues +1/0 for each attacking creature that shares a type with it, so attacking with 8 rebels would give them all +8/0
in what power level? cause in my friend group im dead on turn 8... this thing doesn't hit the board with some protection till turn 5ish... no nobody is playing cedh in my friend group just lots of interaction...
I have tested this deck over the weekend. I had 3/6 winrate in various pods, all 8-9 strength decks. The power is indeed amazing, the ones I lost were rather due to the failure of the player (me) not the faults of the deck itself, I also had extremely poor opening hands, had to mulligan every single time to 6-5 cards, with just 2 lands. In all games this deck kept pressure right all the time, usually resulting in an extremely tight and interesting game right until the end. My bit of advice: do not be too greedy and do not pump out everything and don't leave your mana tapped out. Always leave some open for protection. And remember your commander can go to the grave: I forgot about this twice. I am also some alterations to the land list, got some fetchlands, duals and Mutavault lying around. Also considering adding Roaming Throne: it can double up Otharri's speed.
This is how you stop any commander based deck. The commander tax once or twice on is enough to slow. If not, stop these decks. Even cEDH decks run into this problem. The flip side is don't recklessly cast your commander without protection. I realize easier said than done with 3 other players. Also, knowing what the preferred hand and mulligan accordingly.
You realize it has an alternate casting cost for 4 cmc by tapping just one Rebel, which most likely will be easy to do? Your opponents think twice before using single target removal, especially if you have some other protection on board or in hand.
Please consider adding Neheb, Dreadorde Champion It’s a great card by itself, but it is almost an aoutoinclude in a strategy like this, Neheb will help you find extra combats so much faster. Also Mizzix Mastery, and similar “Spell Reanimation” cards might be a musthave, you don’t have that much extra combats so re-using them is a good idea. I’m also sure you can swap quite a few of protection and card draw spells, because the ones you’re running are very weird. Blacksmith skill is somuch better than quite a few of options you gave
You should be playing Glittering Stockpile in pretty much every single EDH deck that uses red mana. It's underwhelming, which is good. From the turn you play it, you basically have twice as much mana as you ordinarily would at any given turn, purely because you've been tapping it every turn.
I do think the list is strong and well tuned overall. But I do think that it is still somewhat fragile against control decks in general. I suggest running some sorts of stax too, just as another way to tax resources, so they are more limited in terms of how they can interact with Ohtarri. Blood moon is a good choice if majority of your lands are basics, especially if you are playing in high power pods against greedy manabases. Also, interesting that you don't really run boardwipes at all, I would personally still play a few of them, maybe 2 for this deck, you can't always hope to be the one with largest boardstate, has to be able to reset somehow. Tragic arrogance is a nice inclusion imo.
I’ve gotten to the point that if I see a player feeding value off an other I’ll just kill the food source unless I have the removal for the value engines
Seems like a Spike build, but to each their own. I built mine as a rebel typal deck with no extra combats and a lot less protection. If you keep a rebel in hand, you can always bring Otharri back without relying on your tokens. They can also tutor out Neyali for an alpha stike. With this strategy, I run a lot of board wipes with the intention of rebuilding faster. Honestly, I found you can do whatever you want because Otharri is so cracked its almost hard to lose.
@Uefeti Yes, my standards are that low. Is an extra combat Otharri deck a Spike deck in relation to every deck that can be built? No, not even close. However, my point was that this build is a Spike compared to the many ways you could build Otharri.
otharri sounds like they work well with Anim Pakal and anointed procession (or mondrak) too~ Assemble the legion, Baird and warleader's call... all out tokens wait... no Loran's Escape? 1 mana protect your othari
I played agaiinst an otharri player recently. . . and i countered his cast twice. Another player had a leylines of the void out, so it had to go to the command zone. He threatened to scoop when i was about to counter it again, like that had meant something
If you're getting 90% wins with this, I think you're playing in the wrong pods. I will say some of it is skill. You clearly have solid deck building knowledge and lots of skill and experience. This can give you the edge of winning in the 30% range. But really winning over 40% even shows me a lack of balance in the pod. One thing I'm curious about is do you avoid pulling this out against decide you expect to lose against, because that can increase it's win percentage over 50 easily. If so, what decks do you see as Kryptonite? My friend has a slightly more casual Othari deck, but it's still a very good deck and it can win pretty fast and more than the 25% average than decks should likely have to be in the right pod
"Your high win rate is just because you run Dockside"
I kept hearing that so much when i ran my Ortharri deck
How true is it

If I ever want to revisit that type of deck I’m gonna definitely go with Ortharri
really cool deck tech! def stealing some of these ideas for my Anim Pakal list
would Illusionist's Bracers and Battlemage's Bracers be good, in the deck??
I'd play stuff like welcoming vampire, and wedding anouncement over cards like seize the spoils... other then that I think the decks looks pretty good.
gonna need to try this. but since you're banking on extra combats wouldn't neheb be a good fit to basically pay that aggravated assault. just asking
battle hymn casting multiple extra attack cards is tricky. It can cast the second while you already were abel to cast the first. But two is mostly not possible, as you miss out on the untap if you dont want to lose unspent mana at phases end
Yeah, Oatharri is dope, I'd often win due to a boardwipe cast by an oppenent but the haste threw them off.
Otharri is very good, had the fun experience of playing against two people while running a goad deck.
Do you think Haystack would have a good place in this deck?
How about Whispersilk Cloak and Mithril Coat?
deck seems legit NICE BRO
Giving it a try!
Here are my quick changes since I obviousoly proxy (Shameless plug):
Replaced a 2 mana rock colorless with Manacrypt.
Replalaced some lands for Mutavault, Plateau and Arid messa.
Added Anointed Procession to double tokens. (still figuring out what to replace with)
Added Cathar's crusade. (Removed Gold night commander)
I'm SO tempted to put either Torbrand or chandra's incinerator.
Thank you for the list!
Eh, I mean, yeah, good cards are good
@@Uefeti amen to that
Have you ever thought about adding in infinite combats with cards like theropod, phyrexian arena, or neheb along with aggravated assault. Or by using ways to untap combat celebrant?
Hey so recently, my locals has been trying a format where you take a precon and you can exchange any of the 20 cards in it for your own. Was looking at the otharri precon and deciding what to take out/put in. Any thoughts on what you'd take out/put in?
No Cathars Crusade?
Hey Deck Driver! I love watching your videos and like the perspectives you bring! You've really helped me reexamine my own decks and eck building process!
Ive also been thinking about starting a channel sharing my own thoughts on mtg and the like. Would you mind sharing how you make you videos the way you do? (Like, software or how you go about the visuals we see) ect? Any advice or suggestions you have would be grealty appreciated :)
Anyways, keep up the awesome work and congrats on the growth of your channel! I cant wait to see how big we can make it ^_^
wouldn’t a 90% wr mean you’re playing a bit below your weight class? nice video though, man.
What I was thinking. Like this deck doesn't play counterspells so how is it stopping other high end decks? Just hope other opponents answer eachother? Like isn't a 5 mana commander kinda slow?
This exactly. It doesn't seem cEDH / super high tier. So if this has a 90% winrate in a lower tier, he should just play against stronger decks x)
@@ToadboyVlogs I was expecting it to have stax, especially with how easily the activated ability gets around things like rule of law
@@auberry8613 exactly. White and no stax peices? Shame
It's prob not consistent or overall wr.
Shared animosity won't trigger on the tokens you create with Otharri, right?
On the "Removal" Section (at least based on my local meta), I'd swap the following:
Lightning Bolt --> Wear//Tear or Abolish
Destroy Evil --> Unexpectedly Absent
Chaos Warp --> Stroke of Midnight (I've just had one too many Warps flip over a backbreaking permanent, I don't run this anymore ever)
For protection, if you're running on-board protection like Selfless Spirit, Selfless Savior gives you a 1-mana creature that can protect just Othari.
Also, if running Mother of Runes, why not also Giver of Runes?
Got damn, that is the cleanest commander deck list I've ever seen. No notes.
I like the deck, the only swap I would really make is taking out strionic resonator for the roaming throne. Less mana intensive and gives you the same result.
Any Dockside/Jeska's Will budget replacements?
Great Video btw!
On the topic of keeping otharri in grave, perhaps consider a fee more sac outlets. Not dedicated sac outlets, but just so happen to sac
I would also recommend running the 2 mana red extra turn spells bc if you can cast an extra combat and an extra turn spell youre going to win.
Not in this build lol… He needs a lot of time to start becoming a threat, and those extra turns are usually played in much faster combo decks
can you make a list of Caesar?? im kinda lost with my deck
Simian spirit guide? Lotus petal? Maybe good ramp to consider
New favorite channel here too! Nice deck tech
So I have Otharri as my commander. Pretty nasty commander build. Would Lae’zel Vlaakith’s Champion soy double up the amount of experience tokens you get?
I put that in my Otharri deck
wish more channels would deck profile like this
I am very curious as to why you aren't running Breath of Fury in your extra combat set up. It is insanely easy to get "infinite" combat steps with Otharri because you make more 2/2's to attach it to every combat
I would say it's arguably better than most other extra turn cards in this specific deck. I run it in my Eowyn Shieldmaiden deck for the same reason. Easy to make a bunch of weenies to throw it on, also easy to give them trample or some sort of evasion to make sure it always connects
It was such a good deck right out of the precon
I'd put sac outlets for protection because you can get it back for 4 mana and not discarding a card for x mana. She makes rebels to use for the ability.
By Any Chance you run Mondrak or Ojer-Taq?
Would shared animosity not be a very food card here? It is the one that gives your creatues +1/0 for each attacking creature that shares a type with it, so attacking with 8 rebels would give them all +8/0
Without question. That is a serious threat
in what power level? cause in my friend group im dead on turn 8... this thing doesn't hit the board with some protection till turn 5ish... no nobody is playing cedh in my friend group just lots of interaction...
I LOVE OTHARII
Also considering adding Roaming Throne: it can double up Otharri's speed.
i’ve played against it a lot. it just feels slow most games. and i’ve found removing it once or twice kills it
This is how you stop any commander based deck.
Cavern of souls goes hard in this deck.
Otharri is so underrated.
Mine is focused on tokens and not meant to be competitive but holy hell it's just inevitable.
Could you make a more affordable version of this deck?
Please consider adding Neheb, Dreadorde Champion
It’s a great card by itself, but it is almost an aoutoinclude in a strategy like this, Neheb will help you find extra combats so much faster.
Why not Breath of Fury? Wouldn't that just be infinite with your commander?
Otharri is my hidden win con for my Kelsien, the Plague deck!
Sephora Sky’s Blade would be a sick protection card.
I play a very similar version of this deck. Looks great and anything i have thats difrent would just be card preference
Your deck is so similar to mine 😅 i use lots of board wipes with tons of protection
no mithril coat?
Seems like a Spike build, but to each their own. I built mine as a rebel typal deck with no extra combats and a lot less protection. If you keep a rebel in hand, you can always bring Otharri back without relying on your tokens. They can also tutor out Neyali for an alpha stike. With this strategy, I run a lot of board wipes with the intention of rebuilding faster. Honestly, I found you can do whatever you want because Otharri is so cracked its almost hard to lose.
Man, your standarts must be so low, if you think what an Othari extra-combat build is a Spike one
@Uefeti Yes, my standards are that low. Is an extra combat Otharri deck a Spike deck in relation to every deck that can be built? No, not even close. However, my point was that this build is a Spike compared to the many ways you could build Otharri.
otharri sounds like they work well with Anim Pakal and anointed procession (or mondrak) too~
Assemble the legion, Baird and warleader's call... all out tokens
wait... no Loran's Escape? 1 mana protect your othari
Why no Landtax?
I played agaiinst an otharri player recently. . . and i countered his cast twice. Another player had a leylines of the void out, so it had to go to the command zone. He threatened to scoop when i was about to counter it again, like that had meant something
I thought Field of the Dead might be good as another relatively free token engine, but that probably won't work with the 19 basic lands.
“How this deck became unstoppable in select playgroups against certain decks!”
Theres better white ramp out there than weathered wayfarer, even more so with the next outlaws set. Id recommend upgrading
Weathered wayfarer isn't ramp though, it just guarantees you a land drop. Wayfarer's bauble would count as ramp.
