  • The primary Atlantic sea scallop fishery operates along the Atlantic coast from the Mid-Atlantic to the US/Canada border. The scallop fishery uses predominantly paired or single scallop dredges throughout the entire range of the fishery. To a lesser extent, and mainly in the Mid-Atlantic region, the scallop fishery uses trawl gear

Scallops are very perishable so that is why in every part of the processing they are using tons and tons of ice. These men are experts at opening up the shell and removing the scallops. When the ship is bouncing up and down. Makes one appreciate all the hard work goes into the food that we eat. Keep up the good work.

The United States regulations are probably the best in the world. Asians North so much. They will eat anything. They kill seafood we wouldn't even bring to market. I personally don't care for scallops but I don't want to hear of you eating them either.

One of my friends ran his own home seafood delivery company and he sold me sushi-grade scallops at cost. I was going to flour and pan fry them, but I cut one into several thin disc slivers and dripped a little bit of sesame seed oil and it was incredible in flavor. Tastes like scallop, but sweeter and with a velvet-like texture. I pan-fried some too and it was worth the cost.

This is actually a very old school way of catching scallops. Are boats in Canada have belts, we don't pick off deck no more, we flash freeze at sea, and even have shucking machines on some boats that can shuck up to 60 a minute. Catching a processing ready for market scallops up to 20,000 pounds a day. Not sure how this video calls this modern technology

There was a clam cleaning technique I learned on the beach digging razor clams. That is much due to the fact that they are more difficult to get out off their shell. So, if you bring a stove and boil water in a pot. Then you can grab the edge of the shell of a razor clam with a plyerrr then immerse into the boiling water for a short period like a few seconds. The shell will start to open and it will help to release the connective meat. And the clam will remain uncooked almost completely. Anyway,

There is damage to the food on the bottom. We dragged iron scrappers near Kodiak and I was the cook with 14 crew members. We hit a spot that the scallops were about 12" across. They yielded 3-4 to the lb. Best off load ever at Kodiak. Never ran across them again.
The skipper tried for 2-3 weeks to find them. Due to the steel dredge I always had a 5 gal pot full of king crab legs for the crew to munch on with hot butter. Must be a better way to harvest scallops.
