The Birria Taco King of LA

- Teddy Vaquez is the man behind Teddy’s Red Tacos, the birria-style taco trucks in Los Angeles via Tijuana, Mexico that have become a local obsession. Teddy’s trucks and 4-item menu can be found all over Southern California, where he focuses on rich, spicy birria-style tacos, quesadillas, tostadas, and mulitas- plus a flavor-packed consommé for dipping.
Teddy’s success did not come easily; he spent many years battling depression until devoting himself to building a better life, and ultimately, a food truck empire.

I’m glad he overcame his depression and found his passion. Such a nice guy.
Me too
In every depression, there is a human who desperately wants to find a reason to live while going through despair.
I'm glad your wife left you for me 😈

Hats off to this guy. May he continue to receive more blessings in his life. He deserves the best.
Last thing America needs is more fattening food Mexicans are just adding on to America and making it more overweight
Amen.
I agree with pink
It is true! When you are at rock bottom, the only direction left is up. Happy for you, Teddy Vaquez 💯
He didn’t come up with the idea of dipping tacos in consome🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢 they been doing that in Mexico since before he was born
Esa no fue tu idea de meter los tacos en el caldo del vaso….
Eso lo hacen desde México, antes de qué se hundiera el arca de Noé
Good for you Teddy, I’m only sad because you are 2000 miles away and your food looks very delicious. Thank you for making a comeback.
Missing out it’s amazing don’t go to the one in Pico Rivera tho go to the ones more in east Los Angeles
I'll have one for you.
I live around 10 minutes away from them and their food is delicious however I haven’t been able to eat it because I started working out and dieting. I do miss their food tho !

Teddy seems so humble wish him many success in life
He has a restaurant in El monte i've had it a few times and its pretty good during remodel they had the food truck parked right outside and they were serving food out of it so it was pretty cool
Yes! I live in El Monte I’ve been having the tacos out the truck until the restaurant opened, it’s bomb I’m glad the storefront is open now!
Teddy you rock, Your story really hits home. My father also came to this country and was a baker for many years, and one day a guy he had known sold him a bakery. My dad didnt have money but the guy told him to only give him a part and pay him later. Thanks to that decision me and my siblings have gone to college, and we all take our kids to the bakery to teach them the value of hard work. Keep on doing your thang

@@Shel230maybe parents should take the time to educate their kids on nutrition and moderation . You can't blame food for your fat kids .
@@deathblade909 I mean Mexicans are very overweight
Awesome story 😊
That is the real American dream, hard work and dedication.
What a positive and inspirational guy!! I'm sure people come back to his truck, not only because of his tacos, but also because of his upbeat personality! I'm glad he overcame his depression and having success with his business!
He’s even nice to his competition, you can tell by the way he greeted Teddy, speaks volumes!
First time I went to teddys original food truck on slauson ave years ago there was a long line of course, he was there going down the line shaking everyone’s hand and greeting them that’s what stood out to me was his positive attitude and that’s the reason I prefer them over the hundreds of Birria trucks in la
He now owns like 20 restaurants called Teddy Red Tacos thought LA. But they didn’t mention that here.

This video must be a few years old. I think he has about 3 restaurants now. Downey, Whittier, and Anaheim. I didn’t know his his back story so it cool to see him prosper. 🎉
He has about 10 now 👏
He has more which imo are way too close to each other
Its pretty recent, the fence by where the train tracks used to be was put up a few months ago
Maybe they wanted to just focus on the food trucks. I know there is a new one they opened up in El Monte also. Still need to try this places. Looks soo damn good
Wishing this guy and his business all the best! Food looks great! Wish I could try it someday
I just now looked up Teddy's on Maps and was surprised to see he has a few locations and in good cities.
Can't wait to try this place out sometime this week .
I'm hitting up the Downey spot, today! 🤣

From DC have tried his tacos are there amazing. It’s a must to stop by when in LA. 100% vouch for Teddy’s Red Tacos
Stunner! I’ll try those tacos one day and I will surely try to shake this man’s hand and congratulate him on his success. Love to see it!
They should a competition between all of these amazing creators and just have them show how amazing their food are and have fun!
As usual the Mexicans adopting , adapting and improving ! I recently heard an American comedian say that he had never seen a Mexican immigrant ask for alms only for work an he was not joking at all . I'm very proud of my peeps !
My dad is 70 and works 9 hrs still
And still comes back to cut grass

Taco's a bit thin on the ground locally 🙃
Life Lessons for us all
8:35 absolute truth. Good tacos will make your day like soul food. Wishing this guy further success.
You can’t take anything from a person who has nothing to lose.
Looks delicious! Where are you located?
His vibe is sooo chill and his food looks amazing 😮💨😮💨😮💨 Y’all need to come to Fort Worth and meet sour birria king here ! It’s a small restaurant named birrieria y taqueria Cortez !!!
This one was long overdue! I went to his Slauson location in 2019 and OMG it was all worth it!
My family has been going here for a while! Every time we’re in Whittier with family we always have to go eat here. The food is amazing!!
Oh my god, those tacos look amazing. Stop making me hungry.
Best bit of advice I live by as well. “Being nice opens a lot of doors”. Dude I wish you great success.
I've only had birria tacos I think twice but way out of state. Have plenty of decent Mexican restaurants near me but no one serves birria tacos 😞 those tacos look absolutely gorgeous though!!!
I reccomend trying to find food trucks with it. No taqueria near me has them either. I’m lucky enough that I found a food truck near me that does it. For an extra dollar they ramen with your consommé
This is is an amazing story - so happy for you and all the happiness and success for you! The food looks phenomenal- will be trying when I’m back in LA!
I'm coming to LA and trying this out!
wow when he said he wanted to innovate and dip the taco in the consommé, I almost spit out my just dipped (in consommé) taco in DF from a family recipe in Jalisco... where they've been dipping their tacos in consommé for a looong time..
This dude is taking credit as the inventor of this style of birria. He even wanted to take credit for giving people a complimentary taco with consomé which is something that they’ve been doing in Mexico for decades and decades.
Teddy's tacos is water down birria over priced
Yesssss I ❤️ Teddy's Red Tacos! 🔥🔥🔥
LA! 🌴🌴🍹🌞
Well if his goal is to inspire people he has inspired me. I lost my gf to suicide in 2019 fell into deep depression and alcoholism. Sober now, I can’t afford a food truck so I’m building a food cart (hot dog cart) from scratch. Which limits my menu options due to restrictions on food carts but I’ll make it work. As he said the only direction you can go from the bottom is up. I didn’t fight this hard to turn my life around and fail.
Good lad. And even if you fail, it's okay, just make sure to fail in the most beautiful way possible, go down fighting, giving it all -- only that is in your control.
Most overrated tacos if you like soggy food more power to you ,birria is best when you eat it as a caldo with tortilla on the side and chips
That looks delicious. I wished we had more Mexican immigrants in my country.
Lol
I love the food!!!!! I order it often!!!❤
I seen him way back on Mark Weins channel, and his food looks amazing.
You can call him the king if YOU want but it isn’t what it was and Birria Villalobos and Birrieria Gonzalez waaaaaaaayy better in my humble opinion
Wtf??? Did he just take credit for dipping tacos in consomé?!?!?! All he did was take an existing style from Mexico to California. You didn’t invent this shit bro. Why not just credit where you took the style from???
No, you don't understand, it's about him and his delusions, it's not about anything else, it's all about him.
How inspiring is his positivity and perseverance? Top guy and I’m sure his food is delicious. Wish I could try it but I’m in australia! Next time I’m in LA definitely want to go. 🤤 😍
Visit Teddy's Red in Venice Beach CA ⛱
I think that Australia is a VERY good target to this kind of food because the LOVE eat lamb and the best barbacoa is made from it !
@@michaelcharlesthearchangel I haven’t been to Venice Beach in a decade but I’m planning on going to Montana next year so I will spend some time in LA. Thanks for suggestion 😊
@@janetabba1975 yes good observation. Mexican food has had massive rise in australia over the last decade, particularly with a large influx of Mexicans moving to Australia. Also because of MasterChef Australia and Guzman Y Gomez the largest expanding franchise in Australia which is actually pretty decent fast food started by couple of Americans a dozen years ago who’ve been so successful I think they expanded into the USA.
There is a Birria Taco place near my house in Sydney and he owned another one other side of Sydney and it’s booody delicious. I have no reference point for Birria other watching a lot of YT vids and studying the flavours but it seems pretty authentic to the ones I’ve seen by Mexican Birria Taco cooks.
I love how he said he invented it 😂
I was excited when I tried this place but i was very disappointed. They look good but it was lacking flavor. There are much better spots in LA.
The door you open from being nice will return you three fold
those prices are solid

I tried his tacos. It’s amazing. The broth has me coming back!
Teddy reached for success even when he had nothing to give. 🙏🏽 I hope to do the same with my photography.
I love this series, not only for the food but especially for the people. Teddy is a perfect example of what you can do when you keep going and believe in yourself

everyday people doing the most for something they love. dont even gotta be a fan of the food to appreciate what this guy does. passion and love all the way is what brings in his good product. you cant make something like this if you dont have his attitude
LA man.. I could wander and eat for eternity and not scratch the surface. So much better than pretentious NYC food.
Birra Gonzalez blows this place out the water
GOD BLESS this man!! He's got such a wonderful inspiring story and it could HELP many people going through the same thing!! 🙂👍

Ummm.... it maybe delicious but certainly looks very *unhealthy.*
It was good when he only had the truck by the railroad tracks. If you know you know. Had some two weeks ago shit was salty. Not as good
Inspiration - love the story that he tells, if you are already rock-bottom, there is nowhere to go but up.
@RealMunchies Yeah, cool I want your scam in me real bad.
If he sold t-shirts I would definitely buy one. The face actually really looks like him who was the artist that designs those t-shirts
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I loved hearing that despite going through a difficult time you were able to dream and make something big happen for you! Thank you for the encouragement. :)
Food looks amazing 🔥
These street food business owners are always super chill. It can't be easy, but that's how you know they love it. Because you HAVE to.
I’ve been to the Venice location, it’s the Birria I’ve ever had hands down!
Dude is a punk 🤣
I believe it’s good if he learned in Tijuana 🤤 for as long as I remember as a kid until now when my family & I go to Tijuana
birria tacos with consome is a must have!! That’s the taste I look for if it tastes like Tijuana tacos it’s 💯👍🏻
I clicked on this video knowing it would be Teddy! If you are in LA, you have to try!!!
Why didn't you talk about your salsa??!! I can eat it on a chancla for breakfast.
Tried at the venice bench location when we were in LA in August. Was good!
This is definitely on my bucket list of places to try 😊
May God continue to bless and watch over Teddy & his business please🙏🏽
What’s up teddy . Come to Texas my boy. We need real raza food out here
I wonder if anyone knows the birria spot from TJ his homies spot
I’m proud of this man. Such a humble and positive person. Much blessings to ya 💪🏾
Birrieria Gonzalez trucks in LA are better, tbh
Yeah, Gonzalez, and Villalobos are the top dogs for flavor.
3:12 LOL ALL KINDS OF SH1T FALLING OUT
lol, I’m Mexican and these are just ok.
Fantastic
Did that sign say $2 + tax for a taco? I miss those cheap taco days.
Cool video
Birria has become one of the over hyped "tacos" ever,,, They're basic ingredients with a juice u dip in. I have yet to find a good biria taco. He has a great point.. the majority of people selling it were just using menudo or pozole juice to pass it off. This guy is legit.. props for being translucent and it shows. Best of luck and continued growth!
he meant that birria is originally a soup but came up with the idea of dipping the tacos.
Great story but damn why is it every single "birria" truck in LA makes their birria with beef 🤦 Real Birria is made with goat meat and if you think otherwise ask anyone from Jalisco, Mexico where Birria was first created
Because Americans don’t eat goat and beef is readily available while I’ve never seen goat meat in supermarkets here
Why is his logo almost exactly the Freddy’s frozen custard and Steakburgers logo?
