    This is a great discussion and also a very fair assessment of the commitment of Fuji. It is too bad that film production makes up such a small revenue source for the company. I like to support all the film producers to keep the industry viable. Thanks so much. RS. Canada

    Illford has confirmed that non of their in house films stocks are rebranded for sale elsewhere.
    But they do make film for other people.

    Fuji must still be manufacturing colour film in Japan like Provia, Velvia and Superia. It is possible that after they discontinued the first Acros, they closed down their facilities to make black and white film. To be fair, from a business point of view, it wouldn’t be worth keeping a facility going that is only making one film in large numbers and not actually selling them fast enough. I imagine Ilford have the means to make Acros in smaller numbers.

    Kudos to Ilford for being enterprising and accommodating FujiFilm to produce and convert Acros II. There is an appetite for Acros II particularly from users of the previous Acros stock. FujiFillm is on a winner.
    Referring to an earlier point made by Manuel Guzman, I feel the same way having a relationship with FujiFilm. Yet for some reason I am drawn to them on occasion.
    Thanks Nico.

    These companies, not Kodak or Ilford or Fuji....none of these companies owes anyone an explanation. These companies killed off a lot of emulsions because NO ONE WAS BUYING THEM. Now Fuji brings Acros back and everyone is having a fit because it’s made in the UK?!?! WHO CARES WHERE IT’S MADE. By account of all the early reviews Acros II looks just as good as the original. So if you care about seeing film photography continue, SUPPORT IT. The fact that Fuji and Ilford were able to come to terms that work for the both of them (they are competitors in the market after all) is something that should be celebrated. Quit your whining and bellyaching entitlement. “I’m so angry I wish they’d say something!” They announced last year that they’d bring it back to market and they kept their word. When they are ready to distribute it in Europe and North/South America they will contact their retail customers. Until then, quit the damn whining and be happy that there’s another film emulsion to choose from for your kit! Companies move at their own pace for a reason. Quit rushing them to do something they may not be ready for and quit expecting them to broadcast their every move. The ONLY people they owe any explanation to is their shareholders.

    I find it comical that the people that were upset and outraged when Acros was discontinued, myself included, are the same people who are now upset that it's made in the UK instead of Japan, myself not included. Early reviews of the film say it looks nearly identical to the old emulsion and has the same outstanding reciprocity failure so we know it's at least Fuji's recipe. As for who is making it, who cares as long as it's a good product? We should be celebrating this and supporting it. 2019 was a good year for film. Three new films came to market from the three big giants, Kodak, Ilford, and Fujifilm, in an age where digital is king. Quit whining about who makes it and just have fun shooting it. Personally I can't wait to shoot it. I remember the feeling of shooting Acros and seeing the stunning tonal range and beautiful contrast. I also remember being upset when it was discontinued when I was just beginning to really love it so I'm looking forward to its return

    I'm kind of amazed that a Japanese investigative journalist can't find out whether Fuji still make film or not. It is pretty hard to hide a coating plant. Here in the UK if there was a question about whether Ilford still made film I could drive to Knutsford and stand outside the factory and ask some questions. The local MP would have things to say if people were laid off etc. I guess if Fuji are making Instax in the same facilities and the staff are super loyal but there would be other things to look at like environmental regulations and silver discharge permissions. But maybe Japan is a much more closed place.

    Niko, thanks for the opinion video. I am so much in love with Acros 100, can't wait to be able to purchase it again!.
    From what I have seen so far, version II is pretty much the same as version I. Nevertheless, I would like to ask you to try some "nature" shots with cloudy weather, as well as some street photography (cloudy), and architecture on sunny high contrast. If possible both 35mm & 120
    Thanks again!.

    I found an old roll of the original and shot it over the holidays, along with HP5. I was expecting to like and remember the results fondly, but honestly, I like HP5 so much by now, I'm going to be sticking with that most of the time. I'll pick up some rolls of the new Acros to try, though. But with its film, chemicals, and paper, Ilford's the one I really want to see stay in business long term. Although, I do like Kodak's HC-110, and PMK Pyro.

    That Italian film packing machine purchase was a great buy by Ilford. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were rolling the Kodak product also, as Kodak kit must have been very high capacity and I believe the Kodak film rolling machines were absolutely massive. So, who could be making Tri-X for them, if not Ilford. Ilford will never comment on films they make for others.
    .
    I did ask the Ilford CEO if they would make and market Tri-X if Kodak collapsed. He replied that they wouldn’t as HP5 was superior, but if they end up making Kodak and Fuji film then Ilford have the best of all worlds

    I was ready to eat my words when Acros II came out, since I was one of those that believed and spread those rumors. Seeing that "made in UK" label myself, and still hearing nothing from Fuji, I'm leaning towards not buying. I LOVE the stuff and realize film isn't a priority for Fuji, but building an aesthetic off a stock that may be discontinued would suck.
    I hate to trash any film manufacturer, but at least Kodak updates the community - even if they mess up on occasion. Shooting Fuji just feels being in a relationship with a person who has intimacy issues.

      Manuel Guzman I have to support Manuel. I too came out and slammed Fuji in forums and online when they cancelled FP100C and then Acros - my 2 favourites were gone. Then all the hoarders bought everything and jacked up the prices - SCUMBAGS and you guys know who you are - they are the ones that need to adapt and leave the film community as they want to profit and export....F...off
      Back to Fujifilm...I have experience with Japanese companies as I have work for one for the last 15years as of yesterday. They are NOT all like Fuji but I fact they are changing and being more open and slowly losing their inherent domestic Japan market bias. Yes many only care about the Japan market and if the world likes it then that’s lucky for them...but the rest of the world can pay inflated prices.
      We all have to accept that the senior manage, not of Fujifilm has decided to move on and they have only released Acros2 for the domestic market or at least that’s all they care about.Fujifiom has started changing its name back to just Fuji and dropping film off.... I would suspect that they no longer have any film production capacity at all - the stock we see is old production and just stored and dribbled out. Of course Ilford makes the new Acros2.
      Why should we support Fuji? Yes they were once the great upstart film manufacturer that gave it to the corporate bully Kodak....Fuji offered great film at great prices - they had stock and offered more and more new emulsions. Back in the 80-90’s I was a fuji fanboy and hated Kodak. I still despise Kodak but I support them as they are trying to support film....finally after ripping off everyone for 100years.
      Why should we as a film community just support Fuji? They are not supporting us. They partially care about JAPANESE photographers....but the rest of the world photographers can go to hell for all Fuji cares... wake up and admit it too yourself - ask yourself honestly. I dare you....
      I still don’t like Kodak....
      I made a moral decision to dump Fuji. I have made Kodak my colour only option....but I FULLY support Ilford - they are sticking to supporting The film community GLOBALLY....they don’t just support their UK customers.
      Let fuji know that we are not happy with them. Let them see Ilford and Kodak and other brands grow their sales and let them see their sales decline. Let them learn that domestic Japan photographers do not have the buying power to save their beloved film brand. If they don’t learn then let them die....I’m sick of hearing how we support everyone....how about some companies support us buy making product and then taking our money in a transaction called selling a product. Too many seem to believe that companies have some right to loyalty regardless of how they treat customers.- Fujifilm have been taking your money for decades and shown no loyally so don’t give them any.
      I have stopped caring about losing my favourite film....”oh how will I survive....it is the end of the world” - I now just sat oh well....” Fxxxoff Fuji.....I will replace you with Ilford...or Kodak...insert brand here..”. Out of all of this there has been many new comers that have offered some weird and wonderful new brands or emulsions. Okay they aren’t great but we would never have experienced JCH film or Catlabs film or Cinestill films. Out of the ashes humans always seem to find something to make something out of - don’t fear the loss of Fuji but let them go and chase digital and the digital camera depression that will befall all of the big camera manufacturers soon.....and that is their biggest worry and not the sales of some shitty b&w film....

    • @Arturo.H.M
      @Arturo.H.M 4 года назад +2

      andrew williams I subscribe all that you have said.
      There are small and real film manufacturers growing slowly that nobody worry about they. Buying buildings and machinery because their only business is our pasión. I’m talking about Foma and Adox.
      I prefer to spend my money with Foma, Adox, Ilford and even Kodak, instead with a company that doesn’t sales their products (Natura, Acros) in our countries.

    • @andrewwilliams4072
      @andrewwilliams4072 4 года назад

      Arturo H&M Exactly....let’s support these people that believe in the film community....they are taking a chance and investing. I loved Fuji....and I still like some of their films....but they have made a business decision and I except that and respect it - they are a business and they are doing what is right for their share holders. Fine.... NOW I have made my personal “business” decision to ditch Fuji I favour of film manufacturers that truly believe in film and support the community....and the share holder of my company - ME fully supports that decision.
      Let the Fuji fan boys rant begin.....same old same old excuses...blah blah blah.... Fuji has changed and some does OUR respect for them and our wallets

      I like your thinking....and I believe Ilford to be the No1 film manufacturer that ALL the film community should support - they have supported us and not ripped us off or lied to us. They have releases updates to film and paper supplies. Let’s support them and not bother with the “has-been” Fujifilm brand....move on people and wake up.
      Ilford is smart enough to not extend them selves too far and stay with what they do best B&W. They have been though financial issues many times in the past and before the digital era even started. I fully support and purchase their product over any other B&W film.
      The film community will be well served if Ilford stays as the major b&w manufacturer and Kodak stays as major colour manufacturer- plus all the small niche manufacturers - as long as they charge us a fair price and they sell at a fair price - then the market will be in balance. We don’t need fujifilm anymore..... if Kodak has any decent brains at the head of it - then they will know that they have only one last chance to survive and if they start being stupid with pricing and cutting film range then they will be dumped and then Kodak 2.0 will be gone and this time no one will care.
